yeah i have lunarglide 3 and sensor. i want to use it. =(

+1 for nike+ on android.

I looked into this (Also a Nike+ and Atrix user), unfortunately I don't think it's possible because Nike+ isn't bluetooth, ANT+ (in which case our phone doesn't support it either) and mostlikely uses a proprietary protocol/frequencies for communicating with the foot sensor. Also, Nike signed an exclusive contract with Apple so, while they could create an Android App & some receiver device they won't....Unless they want to lose their lucrative deal with Apple
Also, your GPS is built into the phone and doesn't cost you anything if you have a data plan to get Google Maps. You don't need to pay for it to AT&T (They basically just tell you where your family is, which you can do for free with Latitude)
The few viable solutions that I can see for treadmill running (which is the case why you couldn't use the GPS solutions abundant on Android) are:
Garmin 405 (or similar) watch + footpod sensor which runs ANT+
A Sony phone which has ANT+ which you can pair with footpod and ANT+
MotoActiv which has ANT+ and can be used with a footpod and ANT+
What you really want, that doesn't exist (to my knowledge) is a bluetooth cadence sensor and an Android App to convert the candence information into human readable data like Nike+

^+1
Nike+ will probably never see support for the Android.

I would even buy an alternative to nike + as long as it were as intuitive and as easy to use. Nike + for android +1

You can allways go with the nike sportband

GPS is a free service that is built into your phone you don't need to subscribe to some navigation app.

InfraRed for Remote Control

Is there some software that can turn the InfraRed on Hermes for use as a remote control for things like TVs?
There is. Say, VITO Remote. But Hermes infrared port is really short-ranged (no more than a meter, I recall), so it's of little use.

Some iPaqs have a decent range, heck even wizard has a better range than Hermes. Anyway Hermes' IR is not meant for remote controlling the TV.
Would make an interesting project to see if the ir led could be changed or boosted for a longer range. Would love to use my hermes as remote as well
you can search in the old parts of the forum for posts by me for curcirs layout extentions for boosters for ir for pda's
it's alot of work but hardware addons always are

so why didnt you search the forums first on this topic? theres enough threads on the limited range of iRda.
Novii Remote Deluxe
My Wizard would operate the TV from the couch just fine.
No such luck on the Hermes though. It's IR port is substantially weaker then the Wizard's
the Ipaqs where designed to be used as a remote, a special IR was put in it.
Three is one other option, you can make a sound to IR adapter and "play" the ir signal from a wav file.
forgot where i read about it, but think it was from an ipod hack. gd luck

SHORT RANGED
I use Novii Remote Deluxe from http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/ on my TyTN (Hermes) and it works just fine at about 10 meters with my TV, Hi-Fi Sat. decoder etc. etc.
My wife likes to hide the remote when the Game is on, so I use my "TyTN-Multi-Remote" quite often...

ha-ha, No I do not sell anything, though I could do with an extra income... ( wife just LOVES shoes )
Anyway, I think I exaggerated a bit with the 10m (32feet), took the wife's measuring-tape-thingy-for-making-clothes and my couch is about 5m (16feet) from my TV etc.
Sorry about that, but it is still much further than most of the people I talked to said the Hermes can do, most people talked about less than 1m (3feet) I paid the odd $30 which is less than you would pay for a good hardware Universal Remote and you still can't carry it with you like a PocketPC.
My TyTN (Herm200) was bought new May 2007. I flashed the official WM6 ROM 3.54.255.3 from HTC (5.2.1437 build 17944.0.3.1).
The software version for Novii Remote Delux is 4.11 (build 2006.08.21a, IRv27), released in August 2006.
Sorry again for exaggerating, as you get older the percieved distance from one resting place to the next tends to get greater...
IR
Select models of discontinued HP's that included the Nevo remote software were specially designed with CIR that allows them to have better range etc. This is the same type of IR diode in your conventional remote controls. The Hermes has IRDA. Designed for short range transmission.

Many thanks for getting back and supplying the info. I suspect that the hardware that one is using it on also is a factor.
I tried the exact same version of NoviiDeluxe on 2 different devices (so far). One a very cheap no name DVD player and an even cheaper Matsui TV. The maxium range I got from DVD player was ~ 3 metres and the TV barely got to 2 metres.
Anyway, it is much better than often stated. The Novvi software is very good. From their forum there might be a problem on Hermes phones with the pre-built IR codes but there is no problem learning and implementing codes.
novii is nice, but the range kills the fun with stock IR

Don't know but I think it also has a lot to do with the quality of the signal of the original remote,
May be my imagination, but when in IR-learning mode, I got a huge difference in range if I use new batteries and press-and-hold for a few sec. the button on the original remote, instead of just a quick press. It is as if the captured code is just that little bit stronger...
As said, this may or may not help, but give it a go, you never know...

allow me to elaborate on this, my last pda (which i kinda sat on - not as sturdy as a remote apperantly...) was the ipaq rx3715.
there are two type's of ir ports generally for pda's - sir and cir.
confused? its sipmle - Serial Infra Red and Consumer Infra red.
the ipaq had SIR on it because it was part of the "media oriented packege" that RX models sport.
TyTn seems to use CIR, short range in order to communicate with other devices. most devices these days dont even get ir ports these days. i've owned my tytn for a year now and haven't once used it.
you'l get up to three meters max on a CIR usually as far as i know - BUT I COULD BE WRONG!!
maybe it could be done something from the radio rom to increase the radio power of the IR port

Gingerbread becomes a must !

Now that i've read the article, i'm wondering who's the most genious person around who actually owns a Defy and want's to go show his talent to all the Defy users on XDA and prove that he's the one by actually releasing gingerbread.sbf
In addition to the announcement of PSP2, Sony also introduced the “Playstation Suite“, a new cross-device game platform, which will bring the Playstation 1 games to Android phones and tablets. We have been hearing the rumors of Playstation phone (which is now called SE Xperia Play), so this announcement almost proves the existence of PSP phone.
Sony said that Playstation Suite will be launched by year-end along with PSP2 for Android and the users will be able to buy the game titles through the integrated Playstation Store. This is a great news for Android (and Google), as they now have a serious gaming platform to counter Apple.
You are required to be running Android 2.3 at-least for Playstation suite to work. As mentioned before, the game titles available for now are ported from Playstation One. Some popular ones like Wild Arms , Cool Boarders and Syphon Filter were demoed at the press meet today. It is pretty much clear that Playstation Suite will make use of touchscreen controls, but we need to wait and see how the Playstation branded phone, Xperia Play pans out to be. For that we need to wait for MWC 2011.

Gingerbread and Sony-Suite would be very great, but first as far as I know we need to unlock the Bootloader.
But I think anyone will get it
It doesn't matter whether the Defy gets 2.3 or not it won't be compatible with the games.
Even the other new SE handsets like the Neo and Arc won't be able to play the Playstation games as they lack the physical controls the Play will have - and that's what an SE employee told me at a launch event for the new models.
I would definitely doubt the ability of the Defy(No physical buttons) to play SE's titles the way they are meant to be played.
That being said, if they use touch screen technology to provide controls to phones outside of the SE family, it might be a lot of fun.
I think you could overcome this problem with ie. a bluetooth keyboard.
But what about the missing graphic chip?
The other option is to start playing PS1 games right now with FPSE App from market with touchsccreen controls!

They won't.
As I said, they're not looking to even offer the ability to play the games on their own touchscreen-only handsets. Why would they want to give their competitors a step up?
Also, there'll be some DRM system in place in the Android Playstation store, so only handsets Sony/SE choose to certify will be able to play the games.
Meaning the bluetooth keyboard idea is a no-go - plus, to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any bluetooth keyboards out there with dual touch-sensitive pads designed to emulate joysticks.
Playing those games with a phone that only has two touch points would in my opinion be a surefire funstopper anyway.
So no... I am not very disappointed over this. Sorry!

wahoo blue hr and sgs3 with bluetooth 4.0

Hi!
I'm under Omega 9.1 - XXBLG1 and I have a "wahoo fitness blue hr" (it's a heart rate belt) and it works perfectly with a iPhone 4S. Happy to know?
The thing is that this wahoo should work on android too with apps such as Runtastic or Endomondo. Of course, I'm here 'cause it doesn't.
After a scann, the phone finds my headset, but not my wahoo...
Anybody successfully connected any bluetooth 4.0 item with sgs3? Any idea why it doesn't work with mine?
NB : I heard about some "secret codes" to put in the dialler like *#232331# , but it didn't work as well.
Thank you for any clue!

Will it work with my iPhone 4?
Nope. The Wahoo Blue HR ONLY works with the iPhone 4S right now, but in the future it will work with other “Bluetooth Smart Ready” devices. Rumor is that the next several generations of iPhones and Android devices will all have Bluetooth Smart wireless technology integrated. This product will NOT work with the iPhone 3, 3GS, or 4.

I was looking into wahoo products myself, specifically their Cadence Sensor. I have emailed them regarding compatibility with Android phones with BT 4.0, waiting for their reply.
If you're looking for a heart rate monitor to use with the GS3, this one made by Polar works great
http://www.polar.fi/en/products/accessories/Polar_WearLink_transmitter_with_Bluetooth
There are two BT HR Monitors made by Polar, make sure you get the NON H7 Model. The H7 model only works with iPhones

And right after I posted my last comment, I received this email from Wahoo
"Hi,
I'm sorry we do not offer Android support as of yet. Android has not yet opened up their API to allow for access to the Bluetooth 4.0 sensor in the phone. Once they do we will begin working on it and allowing our app partners to do the same.
Thanks!

So according to them, it's Google not releasing their API for Bluetooth 4.0?
@kman79 : Thank you a lot for the research you did and for your sharing. Because I already have that sensor, I didn't even check if concurrence had something else.
By the way, even if they clam that they do not have the API for bluetooth ( what is not true, 'cause a search in Google with "android bluetooth api" gives you the command... now maybe it is some different for bluetooth 4.0... ), the sgs3 should at least detect the device even if the apps cannot use it (like a PC). But the sgs3 doesn't see the device... and if Wahoo would have the API for bluetooth 4.0, I really don't know how they will manage to make sgs3 recognize the device. I'm really septic for the future of this topic.
Thanks a lot for the search about alternatives for my Wahoo, I will probably check if.
to the best of my knowledge wahoo is NOT BT4 they are ANT+ which is a variation (proprietary variation) of BT4 IIRC
so no the SG3 won't see it.

this in incorrect. there are both ant+ wahoo sensors, and the new blue SC sensors which are bluetooth 4.0 smart devices. from all my reading, there is not yet any applications that can read the data due to supposedly google not releasing the bluetooth 4.0 api; this really doesn't seem to make much sense, but ok. there is a new app out for android that appears to recognize bluetooth 4.0 devices, no one has yet to report if it works for more than just pairing and will provide sensor data to apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nordic.nordicbleapp#?t=W10
start this to show importance to google; does look like support is planned, just not here yet.

Check out this bt4 heart rate monitor site

Edit, same app as posted above
the reason the wahoo blue doesn't work is because the android version isn't coded to accept bluetooth 4.0 devices since they consider that only 2 android devices out there can do bt4.0 so they are too lazy to implement it.
i ended up getting the Zephyr HxM to pair with Endomondo for my workouts and such.
I'm looking for a speed and cadence sensor. No good solution until Bluetooth 4.0 ble support is added.

Do you plan on making Wahoo Bluetooth 4.0 devices available for Android? There are a number of BT4.0 Android phones on the market now (including the best selling phone right now, the Galaxy S III) and many more to come in the near future. It seems like it would make good business sense to stop ignoring such a large customer base and BT seems like a great opportunity.

Hi ,
due to the Android operating system's lack of BTLE developer support we are being forced to use individual phone manufacturers APIs to allow our products to work with the phones. Currently we are working on a Galaxy S3 implementation for our Blue HR and Blue SC and should have a solution by the end of the year.

They obviously missed the end of the year mark.... Though, I think Google just announced that Android 4.3 would have native support for BTLE.
I personally opted for the Suunto Move Stick Mini (ANT+ USB stick) connected with an OTG cable. It works pretty well, the only problem is the micro usb connection being so small that its not very stable. You need to find a way to keep the cable firmly plugged in. I use the app IpBike (which also works for running). Somewhere on these forums I also posted how to hack Endomondo to support ANT USB sticks.

well, the 4.3 android update seemed to change things. Wahoo just paired (at least once, it is not perfect) with BLE heart rate monitor app.

I know it has been 4 years since the request, but I had exactly the same one recently which makes me think it's an eternal question One of my needs is exactly to have daily steps, distances and calories available in a widespread storage.
I'm currently working on an Android app I called Mi Fit Companion (closed beta now) that extracts data from Mi Fit and exports it to online services. Requires root, already exports to GPX files, Strava via its API. Export to Google Fit is in process.
This essentially means that all Mi Band (2, 3 and 4 are tested) and Amazfit bands (testes with Amazfit Cor, theoretically all models should work, probably except Amazfit Pace -- need to verify though) that are the lowest price end of fitness band world become compatible with Strava and Google Fit. And something else we can imagine.

Looking for a MHL / Mirrorlink 1.1 / Android auto phone

I am getting crazy to find a phone, which will be used in the car with a Kenwood DDX-7025 probably. AFAIK the DDX-7025 supports MHL, with Mirrorlink I am unsure, looks like the 7015 supports Mirrorlink. But I want to use Sygic which needs Mirrorlink 1.1 if I don't want to use MHL. Actually I don't know what I should prefer MHL oder Mirrorlink. So my goal is to buy a phone which supports MHL and Mirrorlink 1.1
The cheapest I found is a HTC One (M8), when I check https://cert.mirrorlink.com/ProductListing/ On the on side it is a little bit above my budget and on the other side, I would prefer a bigger display. Android auto shoul be supported too, which needs Android 5.0 min.
Is there a Sony phone which supports Mirrorlink 1.1. Looks like most Sony phones support Mirrorlink 1.0 only.
As a person who tests car head units supporting MirrorLink, CarPlay and Android Auto for a while now, I can only conclude that MirrorLink (even in the 1.1 installment) is the buggiest of all three. Sadly, CarPlay seems to be the most consistent.
Yes, it is really sad. Do you know any headunit which supports Mirrorlink 1.1?
I've never looked to buy a head unit. I've only been involved in the developing of the project, as a tester. Sadly neither of the projects are launched yet and even if they'd be launched, you'd have to buy the whole car, as they were OEM head units.
Bottom line is, if you want remote UI on your head unit, try to search for something that supports Android Auto or CarPlay (depending on what phone you have or want to buy). Usually, head units that are currently in development will support either all three standards or just AA and CP.
Out of the two standards available for Android, ML needs, as an extra, a certified phone. It also is, from what I've seen, more buggy and generally less stable than AA or CP.
What I want is to mirror any app on the head unit screen and that is hard to realize. Android Auto is Google dominated, I don't want the Google navigation and I am not interested in things like how high is the "Empire State Building". Mirrorlink is limited to certain apps, a catastrophy which apps, especially which navigation apps are allowed. So the only solution would be MHL, what I found out. But with MHL it is very critical with the devices. I read that it stopped working sind Android 5.0
What did you end up with?

Good question, at least I forgot the connection between phone and head unit. I bought an Alpine head unit INE-W990BT (including navigation), which I won't buy again because gps is too inaccurate, I assume Kenwood is better and use this for navigation. In case I need more than I use a Zuk Z1, which has an excellent battery, which is mounted below the wind shield.
I have a kenwood ddx9702 and I connect android auto up with my sprint htc one m8 (bad boys ROM s-off). Using MHL it only mirrors phone screen. Using USB I get android auto to work.
