WORKING Blackberry Connect configurations - Touch HD Themes and Apps

Hello All,
I believe there are many like me who would love to get the Blackberry Connect Software working on their HDs. At the moment, it seems like black magic how to get it working and the other thread doesn't really contain much useful information on working configurations.
So far, we know the following:
1. It is Radio, ROM and SIM card dependent.
2. You need to have the BB service provisioned on your SIM and have the new style SIMs that support full data functions.
3. Latest version of BB Connect required for TouchHD (4.0.0.106). This is available from HTC Asia on on the internet (just search these boards)
What i'd like to use this thread for is for people to post WORKING configurations with as many details as possible regarding the setup/installation procedure. I'll start with the only configuration I've managed to get working so far.
ROM: Dutty's 1.9b extreme
Radio: 1.12.25.16
SIM: Blackberry service from MTN
Installation/Procedure:
- Flash ROM
- Install BB Connect software
- Provision SIM card
- Connection was activated after a few hours.
Other information:
- The BB connect service defaults to IE as the browser.
- BB Push email service worked but with lag. SEVEN was much better in this regard.
- I was unable to get messenger, stock tabs, weather update, google maps, etc to use the BB connection
- BB push email service creates its own mail folders on your device regardless of what you already have.
- BB email folders do not have full flip to scroll to next message functionality in TF3D.
- BB email did not display pictures, etc
Please lets have other users chime in here and perhaps we can get a Wiki section created for BB Connect on the HD. Lets please keep to the same format as above to keep the information easily referenced and trackable.
Thanks

Thanks for the info, I have been able to run the service with all ROM's expect for the ones built on 6.5 OS's..
Connection was instant in each installation (right after a reset I am connected - then I'd push my service book -- done)
I do not have any lags in mail arrival.
Its satisfactory for me- but as you said you have to stop the BB service prior to any attempt to use the data connection for other purposes (IE, weather...etc)
Only thing I miss is the blackberry messenger.
Thanks for the thread.

Thanks for responding Taiseer.
Could you tell me what mobile operator and country you're using? Secondly, what do you mean by push your service books? Is than an automatic process or manually performed by you? In the installation that worked for me, I didn't do anything of the sort.
After installing did you have your BB sim in the phone or did you insert it later?

I am currently residing in Oman and its Omantel...
and normally what I do after the 1st installation and device reset, all of my mail arrives to a new mail account named system..(and I won't be able to send or reply to mail from it), so to be able to get the rest of my accounts and have a better use out of the service, I log on to the Operator's blackberry's site and manually demand a service book sending.. in few seconds mail arrive into auto formed mail accounts..
As far as the SIM card its always in the HD..

It looks like SEVEN may be better for me then, how does battery compare between the two.

Thanks for the information Taiseer. My provider does not offer the internet log on option so I guess I will need to get them to push the service books to me somehow. When I install the software with the sim in it, i get nothing after a soft reset. No pin and no ip address. Did you find that MS Live or any other microsoft service was able to use the BB connection or is it just the browser?

Seven has a good service and I've had no complaints. The BB data plan is the cheapest where I live though. So if you can get unlimited (or cheap) data packages, stick with SEVEN. I didn't notice any differences with battery life.

No - you got to stop data connection, but because I am used to my WIFI conection and hotspots everywhere I normally do not discounnect the BB connection, DO you??

Whilst my service worked I was too scared to disconnect the BB connection so I just didn't use any of the other services. It sucked. I've just flashed Davideuck's newest V 2 ROM so we'll see if i can get it working.

Okay, great news people. I've got my service working on Davideuck's Version 2 rom. It required a call to my network provider. For all those installing on a HD, its down to your provider regardless of what they say.
Taiseer, thanks for the heads up about the blackberry page for my subscriber. I managed to track mine down and set up my email accounts from there.
Woohah!

I am using a stock ROM 1.14.405.3(22273) WWE, Radio 1.09.25.15
I hate to have to use a cooked ROM, I've used Dutty's ROM's on my Kaiser and they worked well but this phone works so well I don't want to mess things up.

I believe the stock ROM should work as well. Be sure to hassle your service provider to set it up on their end. I think some providers are not pleased to offer the BB service for non BB phones and do not fully enable the service (they can tell that its not a BB phone from the PIN number). After a talk with my provider, I was told to reset my phone and presto! all was working.

It works on on my Kaiser so I know it works on my T-Mobile plan. I may mess with the radio's to see what I can do.

Sorry to keep adding to this thread but I have some new developments. I upgraded the ROM to 1.19.831.0 and Radio 1.09.25.14
I have version 106 and ran the desktop software, it switched the PIN from the Kaiser to the HD. I changed the version reset the device and now I have the service books and an IP address.
When I look at the status I get network available>data tunnel available then not connected.
Update, since it wasn't working I tried to reinstall BB Connect on the HD, when I tried to configure I got the PIN 0 error. As a last resort I put the SIM in the Kaiser and configured it, then switch to the HD, configured it and it worked!
I'm not sure but it looks like changing the PIN was all I needed to do.

blackberry working great on orange uk htc touch HD standard phone
I downloaded the blacberry install files form a link on this forum, I belive it was the same blackbery files from HTC.
Rom Version 1.19.61.1 wwe
Radio 1.09.25.14
Installed the BB app to phone - then went to start settings > system >" click" icon blackberry.
Blackerry connect (identity) tab shows 3 bits of info
PIN said something like waiting for PIN
IMEI 78*******************
IP Address No connection
Spoke to orange asked for blackberry service. they said 5 permonth £ 250MB of blackberry
Orange sent me text message with a pin number and told me of the orange blackberry site to go to I think it is blackberry.orange.co.uk
On the blackberry.orange.co.uk I enterd the PIN number from the text message and IMEI number.
My phone recived a text a turned it of and turned it back on.
Checked the Blackerry connect (identity) tab
PIN was now populated with the pin that was in the text message
IMIE still there
IP Address says connected.
Went back to the blackberry.co.uk setup my email accounts with blackberry the pressed service book. looked at my phone 20 mins later and my there email accounts were there 2 for work and 1 for home.
I dont do much surfing on the phone but opera works and and the blackberry is fantastic.
orange were very helpfull on this.
But saying that blackberry is really a network service Windows Live I belive does a similar thing you get push email.

I'm glad to see people are getting it sorted. There are certainly many other options for connectivity and push email. Some even work better than the BB service. The reason i'm on the BB service is that its the cheapest way to browse regularly and get push email in my part of the world. When a page can cost as much as 30 pence via gprs versus 20 pounds a month for unlimited data on the BB plan, its a no brainer. Yes, I'm painfully aware we're being gouged but theres no getting away from that.

I have a problem with blackberry connect...
Everything installed just fine, receiving message OK, BUT...I can't send mail because option new mail, reply on mail also, is disabled
Very strange, because I used earlier bb connect on diamond and everything worked...
Any solutions?

Its probably because you are only having the "system mail account" you should try to send your service books to your winmo via provider

Thank you very much - I'm tottaly forgot the way how to do that, working now!

Problems with BB connect on HTC HD
Hi guys,
after setting up successfully BBconnect on my HD, I noticed that when I send emails from my BES account on my laptop, I always find them in my Inbox (not in Sent Items as I would expect) of my HD reporting me as Sender and no body message in it. Instead, should I send emails from my handled device, I always find them in Sent Items of my device as expected....Has anyone of you faced the same issue?
Thanks...

BB Connect on Rogers

Anyone know if it's possible to get BB Connect working on the Rogers network in Canada? Have an XDA IIs and have BB Data set up on my Rogers account.
Got the BB Connect sw working, it generated a pin, etc., but couldn't get it to connect to the Desktop sw. I tried manually changing my pin in bwc as well but it wouldn't take the generated pin or the IMEI.
Talked to Rogers and they didn't seem to know much. They said something about RIM registering pins in thier database, but didn't have any definitive info.
Any ideas, or am I hooped until Rogers comes out with a Pocket PC device?

Weird, I was just looking at that today. Was going to install mymail on my xda IIs, but then decided just to use outlook pop3 polling instead. (heard that mymail is a serious power draw).
I'd love to hear if anyone has been able to get BB connect to work.
I am curious on how you got a PIN?
I have spoken with several Rogers reps and they definitely will not support it or help, although one of their techs told me that someone with a Nokia got the BB connect working. I will look through HOFO to see what I can dig up.
Once again, please explain how you got the PIN

The PIN is generated by the device, nased on some magic and the IMEI number. This is the unique identifier.
RIM can detect the software version and the operator being used to connect via - and they block any they consider to be 'unauthorised'. So it's not as simple as just copying the CAB file to your device and running it - the real issue is RIM being twits and not allowing anything to work unless your carrier pays the RIM tax (and then charges you of course!).
Occasionally some connections get through - but RIM are worse than the IRS - they WILL FIND YOU
I got the pin generate by just activating the BB Connect sw on my device.
I tried MyMail as well, but couldn't install the device software. This was really weird:
Installed the desktop sw, pointed it to my exchange server and it worked fine. It redirected all the emails to the mymail web client so I could see them there (similar to bwc). The problem was that I couldn't load the device software. It is only available via an OTA site. When I tried to get to the site from my browser, it always re-directed me to the regular MyMail home page. No one at Rogers, or Visto could send me the app itself, so I gave up.
groo - how does the outlook pop3 polling work?
I just entered my mailserver info in pocket outlook and set it to check for email every 5 mins.

Got bbconnect working!

Thanks a lot for this GREAT forum! Finally got blackberry connect working on my artemis! Downloaded v 4.0.0.92 from this forum last week, thought I'd give it a go. It's been a month since I tried all other versions 4.0.0.84 to 4.0.0.91. They ALL made me sick, had to restore a few times. I was amazed that it worked this time, and still works! I have my work mail coming in from BES, and also configured 3 other mail accounts (gmail, isp and my domain), works like a charm.
of course, thanks Meschle for the fantastic touch 3.01 rom!
cubist, what radio are you using?
how did you manage to get the BES to work? Is there any trick or magic?
Radio 3.07.90, which comes with touch 3.01, no alterations made to registry, like some suggested in other posts for older versions of bbconnect.
Once you manage to get connected, setup personal mail through secure blackberry browsing. Create a login here too for web access, so you can resend service books when needed! Once that is all ok, you should get autoconnected to blackberry over edge. My plan is paid by my company, and we have a bes server with lotus notes. I called our dept to reactivate (they have to activate account with password on server, it works only for 48 hours) Then reactivated with password.
Cubist,
thanks a lot, mine is working as well. Just did as you proposed.
glad I could help you!
by chance, do you know what happens to re-activation after having flashed a new ROM? Do you need to go through the re-activation process again?
you can resend service books from the web. If you have the same radio and bbconnect can install on the rom, you should get connected. For the BES part, I'm not sure. I think the key used to register with the BEserver contains a device id, I'm not sure if that changes when installing another rom. I will know shortly: when touch with wm6.1 comes out, I'll test it.
Hi and wonder if you can help!
I am with O2 in the Uk - XDA Orbit WM6
Got BSoftware 4.0.0.92 and got 1 of my emails working okay, but when adding a 2nd one got the following error message:
Service Book Management
Device Message Store Limit.
You must delete a message store to use service.
example: [email protected]
Do you happen to know the way around this?
Many thanks....Carlos
Some providers only allow a certain amount of mailboxes to be added. Your BES account is the first, probably you can't add more than 1 account.

HTC Touch Pro2 help needed --- Resolved

HTC Touch Pro2 help needed
Greetings everyone...
First of all, I would like to thank the developers and contributors here at xda-developers for making mobile life so easy and innovative for everyone..
I am here to discuss a problem that I am facing, which could be because I am not yet experienced with unlocking concept of locked mobiles..
Scenario :
I stay in INDIA and use IDEA cellular as my GSM network. Recently I bought a "HTC TOUCH PRO2" mobile from a dealer from Mumbai (Maharashtra) via Ebay.
The dealer said the phone was unlocked and shipped it to me.
It seems the phone was a US T-mobile locked phone earlier -- that is what I see from its appearance and logo of T-Mobile on screen.
I can insert by Indian SIM and use it to call and receive calls.. So, I believe the phone is defintely unlocked..
Now the problem :
1) I am facing issues to connect to internet using the GPRS services offered by my cellular network - which is IDEA.
2) I have made sure the settings for GPRS are configured properly in my phone.
3) I can browse websites using IE in the phone, but I cannot browse using the Opera browser in the phone ----- when using GPRS.
4) But when I connect the phone to my laptop using activesync, I can browse websites both in IE and Opera.
*** Please note the difference... Opera does not work with GPRS connectivity. IE works in all instances.
5) The instant messengers that are already installed in the phone (Gtalk, Yahoo, MSN) they do not connect no matter if I am connected via GPRS or ActiveSync.
Any idea why I am facing such connectivity issues with my HTC Touch Pro2 mobile?
Any help really appreciated.. Like I mentioned, I am a bit new to these things, so kindly bear with me if my questions sound illogical.
Some things you could try:
1. Install another version of Opera. You probably have Opera 9.7, then upgrade to Opera 10.
I use this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=334007&d=1275104091
You can get more version in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5902175#post5902175
2. Go to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections. You'll probably see two kinds of connections, the one you setup and My Work Network. First select Manage existing connections on your configured connection, go to Proxy Settings tab and check if This Network Connects to the Internet is selected. Then go to Advanced tab, and see that the option Programs that automatically connect to the Internet... is on your configured network, and that Programs that automatically connect to a private network is set on My Work Network.
3. Go to your mail Inbox, press Menu, Tools, Options. Select your mail account and press Edit Account Setup. Keep pressing next until you see Outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Select Advanced Server Settings, and ckeck if Network connection is set to The Internet. If it is and email is still not working, try changing it to the connection you configured (however this might mess receiving email under wifi).
Thanks for getting back to me in this thread.. I really appreciate it...

-- I did try this.. I have tried installing Opera Mobile 10 (Touch) and Skyfire browsers. Both these browsers work fine when I try to access websites when connected via ActiveSync. However, they do not seem to connect to websites when I try from GPRS.
IE however works just fine in any case.

Yes, I have tried this as well and confirmed several times that the connections are setup as per your instructions. But it wont allow the inbuild chat applications (yahoo, gtalk, msn etc) to connect to internet.

I haven't tried this yet, however, will try it today..
What I believe is, applications on my handset are trying to access T-mobile internet settings everytime. Hence, they cannot connect. However, I have made sure that I have configure the connections as per the instructions in step 2 mentioned above.
The other thing you could do is install a custom rom, that will get rid of any T-mobile setting in your phone. Besides very likely fixing your problem, it will speed everything up and gain a lot of functionality. Check this thread before doing anything: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Some tips for you (but read the thread, don't skip it):
1. You have to figure out if your phone is pure GSM or CDMA-GSM. If its a Tmobile from USA its a GSM. The thread tells you how to identify each.
2. The phone has to be HardSPL, this is to unlock it so custom roms and radios can be installed. Has nothing to do with SIM-unlocking as far as I know.
3. Browse through the threads in the ROMs subforum. I use Energy's Rom, but maybe there is one that better suits you. If you go decide for Energy's, READ the first posts of the thread very carefully, especially the FAQ and explanation of different versions.
4. Flashing a ROM will delete everything from your phone. Contacts, appointments and tasks are backed up by Outlook through ActiveSync, if you want to preserve SMS try PIM Backup, its free and easy to find and use. It doesn't save MMS, those you'll have to save manually.

Bingo..... Installed the custom Energy ROM today and it has fixed almost 99.9% of the problem that I was facing.
The old original ROM was such a waste that I had started hating my HTC Touch Pro2. But installing Energy ROM has given a new life to my HTC TPII. Its just excellent..
I can now connect to internet with my service provider settings.. All applications working like a charm... Battery life seems to have improved.. The device is faster as compared to the old ROM... its just excellent..
There are a couple of issues I am facing with this Energy rom, however they are negligible and can be considered as minor errors.. Rest, the devise is working like a charm..
Connectivity issue same as above

Email Problems

Hi.
Im having problems with email on my Desire. Everything was working OK but now it seems that my emails will only download when using wifi.
If i go to my webmail page on my phone i get an error "Web page not available" and "HTTP error code 504"
If i go to my webmail page on a desktop it appears fine
Not sure if this is:
a) Something I have done myself (I switched off data while on holiday recently)
b) Something that Froyo has done (unbranded Desire with Froyo update)
c) Something that T-Mobile has done (blocked certain sites ?)
d) Something that my email provider (Tesco) has done
All other internet browsing is fine - its just the webmail page that refuses to work. I have tried it with the stock browser and also Dolphin HD.
The email widget shows its trying to sync and then 'completes' and puts a completed time in .... but hasnt retrieved the latest emails
any thoughts please ?
OK - Same site is 'unavailable' on my wifes Wildfire.
Site is also available using wifi on my Desire
Rules out Froyo .....
Can a webiste 'block' itself from mobiles ?
Would T-Mobile 'block' a webmail site ?
Thoughts anyone ?
Site still works fine from a desktop......
lol... im the only one replying to my own query
update for anyone interested....
Tesco say their system is fine.
Been on the phone to technical support who are stumped .... as T-Mobile havent officially released Froyo they couldnt even escalate the problem (my phone was an unbranded upgrade through carphone warehouse)
Did a hard reset today and still no better (mind you the hard reset also screwed up my ability to receive MMS but i sorted that quickly - the T-Mobile setup didnt work right !)
so to summarise now - My POP3 email will receive quite happily over wifi but not by 3G, even the setup states it cant connect to validate when using 3G but the setup runs fine over wifi.
My webmail will load happily over wifi - but not over 3G .....
T-Mobile have now suggested I contact HTC support. Anyone got any experience of how useful they are ???
Maybe someone will have some hints for me soon otherwise i'll end up with a huge thread just from me

Integrated messenger and Sockets in WP7

Hi everyone,
I have recently updated to 7720, but i've been using 7712 for a while
and i have noticed something in the integrated messenger,
which it doesn't keep u online, and what i mean by that you literally go OFFLINE
which makes me wonder, where is the push notifications in that ?
i want to put my phone locked in my pocket and keep receiving IMs
scenarios i have tried : Tested on wifi and 3g
Assuming that i have just booted my phone then i did
* Messaging >> Connecting >> Connected >> Check who is online
Then :
1-lock the phone, and put it a side after 5 min u check it again and it is connecting which means u were off
--OR
2-press the menu button( which puts messaging in back ground) go to any other APP (IE9 for example) then u go back to messaging either by using menu key or holding the back button, and again u see connecting
so basically if u lock the phone or not, when u put the messaging in the background it eventually disconnects you,
why ? battery saving i think
and yes, in both scenarios i had the Live messenger also running on my PC with different email and i saw my main email going OFF after a while and also stops getting the push notification(messages)
i have done some searching regarding this, and what i found is, when you put the program in background even in mango you cannot leave ur connection sockets open, even in first party app ? (integrated messenger in this case)
for 3rd party apps, what u can do is creating an agent which can run every 30 min for 20 sec, but isnt that bad ? getting an INSTANT message after 30 min ?
PS : If you stay on messaging without locking the screen nor putting it in the background, you stay connected
Please do post you opinion
Regards,
Put my phone aside for an half hour and still connected (verified by WLM showing me signed into two places and ALSO on phone - no "connecting" on mine, if I open messaging "Signed in (available)" appears on top). So it must be you, your carrier, or anything else, no problems on mine
Mine also always ONLINE on 3G, not on WIFI.
My FB chat stays online until i go offline, not sure what your doing thats making you go offline
It could be that the "phone" is disconnected but the live server isn't and if you get a im then it will push to the phone
way should the phone stay connected if it is on lock ?
you still get your push notifications.
Well i have tried and i have done so many experiments,
Some of u have pointed that my network carrier has something to do with it
but i highly doubt it, becoz i also have an iphone on same network, its fine :\
@ceesheim : i have tried that, i receive messages when i reconnect
Edit : Carrier "Etisalat" Dubai , Samsung Omnia 7
It works fine for me.
I get Facebook Chat, Facebook Notifications and WLM Notifications when the phone is locked.
Doesn't matter if I'm on Wifi or EDGE/3G.
Works fine on mine too.. Get notifications similar to txt notification..
Sent from my LG Optimus 7
I don't see anything running under background tasks. Why is that so?
Bcoz those is for 3rd party apps, and integrated messenger is.. Well integrated. Part of d system.
Sent from my LG Optimus 7
i dont see any battery life improvements in mango. why?
Isn't that good?
Sent from my LG Optimus 7
mine is doing the same thing but bear in mind lately my carrier is having 3g, until its stable i can only assume its doing the same thing loging on and off.
Confirmed, that the problem is in the service provider as i tried a different sim of another provider it worked fine,
i've been calling the company regarding this problem since two week and they are trying to convince me that there is no problem from their side its only from my phone.
seriously how crapy is that...

Maybe your network doesn't allow constant connection to 3G and disconnects you when idle, to stop too many connections or something.
nope, no issues here get Facebook messages in the same manner as SMS.

yes it may be the cell towers.depending on the cell tower operation, some may disconnect yr data when, Idle to save on bandwidth. Too many people connected to 3g puts immense stress to the tower.

Confirmed, that the problem is in the service provider as i tried a different sim of another provider it worked fine,
i've been calling the company regarding this problem since two week and they are trying to convince me that there is no problem from their side its only from my phone.
seriously how crapy is that...

I myself from Dubai and on Etisalat carrier. I experienced a similar issue, i've since then turned off 3G and went completely on EDGE....
Also, i turned off WIFI.....etisalat 3G service is kind of flaky in many areas however the Edge seems to run fine.....
from windows phone OS it does drops wifi on screenlock....so messenger will signout....however if you are on DATA it shud keep the connection alive...but its not a perfect world n u mite signout ...
the other service provider DU i dont like them...voice quality sux...data service slow.
Lastly, i wonder how skype in future will work since....on 3G it'll eat up data so cant make calls....but on wifi if at screen lock it drops connection then skype friends will have hard time calling me.......so wats the solution?!?
Sorry Ive got a really noob question.
But where the heck is WLM? I go into messenger and I have my facebook chat, but I have no freaking idea where WLM is for messenging? I go to a WLM contact and it just gives me an option to send email.
I have the HD2 and 7720 RTM from XBMod and Yukis update rom method.
