[Q] Why my battery light is always on after intalling 09/17 version? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

sometimes it is yellow, and sometime it is green? Is it a known issue?

Green indicates it's sleeping. Orange (yellow??) indicates it's awake for one reason or another...

Anyway to shut the light off?

Not at present, although I think work is being done to get LEDEffects working on our devices. It's just for debugging/troubleshooting dude, you realize this project is far from complete right?

Yes, I realize that Android on the TP2 is a work in progress. All I asked is if it was possible to just the LED off; I didn't realize asking that was in the same league as, "WTF? No BT!!! This SUX!"

Hahaha no worries dude not my intention at all. Just wanted to make you aware that some of the debugging stuff that's enabled now won't be enabled when it's "complete".

Is it possible to just shut the light completely off, as in never on for anything? The orange light is ALWAYS on. I don't need to control the light for different functions, just turn it off. I'm about ready to snip wires! Hopefully there's an easier way...

Uhm... it indicates sleep state - which we're still having issues with and if your phone is ALWYAS orange, then the phone is NEVER sleeping - which will absolutely kill your battery.
Make sure there's no rogue apps stealing proc cycles, and make sure GPS is disabled in Loc&Sec.

Call me lucky, but my indicator light is always blank, even while its charging (When in fryo x)

I would call you unlucky. I like knowing if the phone is sleeping or not - has drastic negative effects on battery life if the phone doesn't sleep.

Hm... Mine's always on orange too. I thought this was normal.
What could I be doing wrong?

Those are probably the two most common reasons my phone isn't sleeping, but obviously there's a lot of other factors to a phone properly sleeping.
Hence the reason for the LED indicator... it lets you know if the phone is sleeping or not, as having the phone always running at full tilt is not good for battery life.

Wheel Light Killing Battery

With Android 2.1 running on HTC Fuze, the wheel light cycles as when charging under Windows Mobil. This seems to help the battery die soon. Don't seem to be any settings relative. Any others seeing this? Any solutions found?
Thanks in advance, RAR.

It's "breathing" to le tyou know it's in a deep sleep state and not wasting battery. It's an LED bulb, so it's not using much battery at all.
Yea the battery is being drained by many other things, the "breathing" LED is certainly not one of the main contributing factors, I can guarantee you that.
The LED might pull 1-2 % battery if you use the phone for like.. A week.
Wow
I guess I believe you folks. However, that function is about as dumb as the lights on all of my electronic equipment telling me their off. Lights used to mean, "Hey, I'm on."
Cheers,

You can disable it by deleting a line in the startup, if you don't like it.

It was to debug deep sleep. If you get the breathing lights, it's sleeping. Sorry, this project IS NOT ready for the masses, and you (real2935) are acting like the masses all by yourself. It doesn't help anybody to complain about things the devs put in place to help themselves. Hell, they could've kept this entire project to themselves and only released it when they deemed it ready - and you wouldn't be able to use it at all. Even worse, the devs could've just kept the ENTIRE project to themselves and NEVER released it. So quit whining.
Missed Oppotunities
Ah, My Dearest arrghhh, you may be young, so I will endeavor to be patient. As all of the others, your first comment was informative and taught me much. My second comment was meant to be "tongue in cheek,... that means it was a joke. Many of us who are not programmers, are still quite technically savvy. You have a great opportunity to teach without being condescending. You will chase many of the "masses" away from becoming better. I hope that is not you intention. That would be sad. Next time I will put a Happy Face so that you will know I'm kidding when I am.
Cheers, RAR
Rar,
You must realize that thinking a little breathing LED is killing your battery is well... silly. When you just stop and think before you post, no body gets hurt
Okay. Enough.
Rar, the LEDs are not killing any battery. But there should be an APK somewhere in the XDAndroid thread for a program that removes it. Though I would advise using it as it shows that your phone is using minimal power and that nothing is keeping it from sleep.
Arrrghhh. Remember, not everyone thinks the same
ok ok everybody
dont laugh on anybody and of course asking this is not silly at all. this happens when people are not sure about something, and so we ask questions.
if anybody misunderstand anybody, its fine too. as long as we get the actual meaning afterwards.
I donno how we can disable the breath light but i m pretty sure it doesnt cost battery. it might be the same if you put your battery unused for a week (in that case the power still will go down like a few percents). since android is super stable for daily use, i suggest keep the light too. just to let you know if he is sleeping or totally dead...sometimes it happens. it just turns itself off or freezes.
Well I read somewhere that you actually use the program LED Effects to change the behavior of the breathe LED... but I can't find it in my build, and my LED definitely breathes for me when it's in sleep mode!
I like having the LED, lets me know that Android is still running OK.
to me i think the breathing lead was used to know that the phone has gone to deep sleep mode and not just having the screen being black and still using full power, u put the phone to sleep and the led isnt breathing then either the phone isnt in deep sleep or it had frozen. in earlier builds there used to be alot of probems with the phone not going into deep sleep or freezing after a few hours after being in deep sleep.
i have a solution
turn the phone face down. that way you wont see it breathing
Otherwise you can modify the build.prop and comment out the line for led breathing. Haven't looked into android for awhile so cant remember which lines you need to comment/remove out.
If you use LED Effects, you can set various LED flashing modes for various events, such as deep sleep, incoming call, text, charging, etc...I agree with leaving it on, it lets you know that it is in deep sleep. Without that, you wouldn't know if you device has froze or just had the screen turned off. In that case you would have to try to turn it back on to check, when you could just see if it is 'breathing' instead. If you can't find the LED Effects .apk, I have attached it below.

[Q] Does anyone know how to turn off the LED light?

I think the LED light drains my battery too much when the screen is off
any way to turn it off ?
Are you on ICS or JB? I thought on ICS there was a direct setting but can't remember what option under System Settings. Maybe "More Settings"?
If you're on JB, can you do it through Settings -> Blocking Mode?
I think "lightflow" from the playstore gives you the option to turn it off
Think it depends on what ROM. What do you have enabling the LED when screen is off? From what I have read around here it really doesnt drain battery.

Should work. This way, you can disable all LED indicator all the time or for a selected period of time -- i.e. during the night.
More LED options are available in Settings -> Display -> LED Indicator, you can select which type(s) of LED indicator you want to activate or not (charging, low battery, notifications, and voice recording). It may then be interesting to configure these settings in conjuction with the blocking mode.
But that's on stock ROM. It might be different in CM10.

The S3's flashing led has negligible battery drain. (my experience)
I am using Light Manager app on a Stock ICS rom in normal mode blinking rapidly and have done the A/B tests to confirm that it is the least of your worries. I am a battery saving nut and have lots of experience with this.
But I would say, that some LED control apps have been known to cause heavy battery drain both to wakelocks and/or just the way they handle the switching.

[Q] offline charging leds

How do you enable offline charging leds...nothing lights up when charging with phone off. Charging status can be checked by depressing power button when charging, but no led lights. Currently running [ROM][KERNEL][4.4.2/4.3] Quantum v3.21 & QuantumKernel 1/16 on galaxy s3 i747 d2att. Have tried enabling different settings in display & lights...battery options etc. Is this possibly a kernel feature that needs to be addressed? Thanks
I think turning on kernel would mean turning on the phone - CPU and all. If I am not wrong, battery charging circuit is the one that kicks in when the phone is switched off and charging applied. I see this happening independent of phone processes when phone is off.

Would that mean the feature is controlled by the rom? Charging leds seem to work properly if phone is being charged while on. I can restore to Hyperdrive 4.1.2, which I have on nandroid in which the charging leds work properly. The Quantum 4.4.2 is based on the CM11 nightly rom...I've seen nothing in that forum about this. I'm limited to where I can ask about this because of posting rules. Thanks for responding.

Yes. That's what I feel. I feel the LED is controlled by phone software, wherin the battery level you see is controlled by charging circuit that should be separate from phone software.

OK, thanks for helping with the explanation...guess I'll just have to hope some future update fixes this feature. It's not a deal killer with the rom, just inconvenient when charging with phone off.

From what I have observed thus far, charging battery with phone off gets routed via a separate circuitry, without activating any of phone functions. This enables battery to get charged faster too. Not sure if anyone would alter a functionality this core level.
To Be sure in what I am saying, I just restored my Hyperdrive backup, & charging led works fine with phone off. CM nightly also has no charging lights...maybe just something left out of the mod or a hidden setting. Maybe someone else will address this in the Quantum Rom section. Thanks again for spending your time on this!!
Oh. Now that's new to me. Maybe I missed something. Sorry.

new user LG G4 help

Ive had a G4 for about 3 weeks now, and would greatly appreciate a little help as a few of the other forums seemed to not offer much advise.
1. When the phone is at rest and charging, the LED flashes/beeps on and off a red color. When it's fully charged the LED flashes Green. Aren;t these lights supposed to be solid? Could my unit be defective? Ive heard yes and no answers.
2. With auto dim set to off and screen brightness at 65%, almost everytime i unlock the phone it auto dims by itself. Ive never experienced this with any other phone except the G3 a year ago. it this normal?
3. On standby the battery does not deplete. Like ever. It was at 88%, and 3 hours later was at 88%. But 5 minutes of simply chrome browsing brought it down to 81%. 5 minutes.
im not rooted, and use only stock, AT&T software. I really like this phone, but want to make sure they aren't all like mine.
Thanks
I have 815 UK version (or international as some people say, or European... or Korean...lol) Anyway, when charging I am shown solid red, when fully charged, solid green. Not sure about the brightness thing, I have mine on auto all the time as I'm afraid of losing too much battery lol. Depletion of battery at rest sounds about right, if it's not doing anything why would the battery go down? However yes, chrome is very resource heavy and I suggest using the stock browser (if you have it, for example on the 815).
IMO.
yeah the charging flashing light was very disturbing, maybe it's defective? but other people say theirs also flash

There is a known issue with the LED light no clearing properly on the G4, here, try this.
Notification LED issues
The notification LED issues have been reported on some G4 handsets, wherein the phone's notification LED keeps flashing randomly even when no notification has been received. In some rare cases, it is ascertained that the LED continues to blink even after dismissing the notification.
Potential solutions
This is a relatively common issue found in Android 5.0 Lollipop, which can be fixed using the Clock application that can be downloaded here. Although this is not an issue with the Clock app itself, it is a means to fix the Notification LED issue.
The issue seems to occur on some devices after receiving notifications from third-party messaging apps like Whatsapp. Such faulty apps could be removed to check if the problem persists. If the issue is gone after the removal of the app, you may need to install the latest app update from the developer to resolve the issue permanently.
If everything else fails, just turn off the LED completely, by going to Settings > Sound & Notification > Notification LED.

Mine also very slow to full red light and slow to no light while charging.
Full green when is fully charged.
I was thinking it was a feature....
Inviato dal mio LG-H815 utilizzando Tapatalk
Yes, the LED orange light will "breathe" like you see on Macbooks or other charging devices, it gets brighter/dimmer gradually/smoothly. So if your LED is "blinking" ON/OFF then that is not normal. It should gradually and smoothly pulse brighter and dimmer.
Mine blinks, on and off. Like a notification but with a 1 second interval. When charged does the same thing but is Green.
You say yours pulses. Others say it's a solid color.
Why is this device so buggy across the board? I feel it truly does everything, and is beautiful, yet I feel theres very little consistency in performance.
I'm going to write an email to LG, and try to find out exactly whats supposed to be happening when this phone is charging.
From my limited time with this puppy, I've noted that mine's blue (for notifications and full charge) and red (charging). And no, I'm not color-blind. Yet.

Well, there are some apps, but the problem is that they are not kernel related, so even if the screen doesn't consume that much because it's AMOLED, you'll notice an HUGE battery drain, because the phone should never go into deep sleep. Moreover if you keep the same pixels on for a long time, you'll burn them.

How was your experience using the app? I'm planning on getting the OP3T and would love it if it has AOD.
You might get 4 percent drain for a full 24 hours. I used an always on display app from the play store on my axon.. Definitely acceptable for the amount of time it's on.
