Samsung Focus On Straight Talk w/ Working MMS - Windows Phone 7 General

This is a reprint of a working solution I posted on WPCentral.com
Okay, I'm going to try to list the steps to get internet sharing and MMS working with Straight Talk, Please bear with me since I've only been playing with WP7 for a couple of weeks, I'm a webOS refugee and I seek asylum within the Windows world. A couple of props need to be handed out first. To Heathcliff74 at XDA for the terrific WP7 Root Tool and to the wonderful folks at the Windowbreak project for the interop unlock that allows us to do these fine things in Mango. Please note that the WindowBreak only works on Samsung devices. If you have an LG Quantum you can unlock by reg edit without having to do any additional downloads, hacking, etc. Last, but not least, the folks at MS for their Windows Phone SDK 7.1 which allows us to side-load XAP's.
1. Get the Windows Phone SDK 7.1 if you don't already have it. It's a large DL so be patient. The prog you will need to run from here is the "Application Deployment" to side-load the XAP's you will be using.
2. Go to WindowBreak by WindowsPhoneHacker.com ON YOUR DEVICE!! Click on the "windowbreak me" link and follow the instructions. Trust me, it's quick and works perfectly.
3. By now you should have an unlocked device and internet sharing available to you. If MMS is not a big deal to you, quit now and forever hold your peace. If you need it, continue with the sideshow.
4. Fire up Zune and make sure you sync.
5. Now the fun begins, go to the SDK app "Application Deployment and install the WP7 Root Tool from Heathcliff74 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...4&d=1325517854
6. If you get an error message that your device is pin-locked, go to your phone's app list and hit "interop unlock" because Zune will re-lock your phone at every sync.
7. Now that you have WP7 Root Tools installed, you will notice that you have a file explorer tab. This will become your best friend.
8. Extract the Straight Talk XML from the zip file below and email it to your phone. Tap on the download and save.
9. In the file explorer find the folder called "Application Data> Volatile> Email Attachments> Attachments and find the XML. Cut and paste to the "provxml" folder in the root directory. If the folder is not there, click on the "+" icon at the bottom and create a provxml folder. There should be some XML's already in there that you would have seen when you were doing the windowbreak earlier. Another user told me that he didn't have the provxml folder so I instructed him to find the folders which have these existing XML's. They have names like "Gumi Test Bed, Suwon 2G Test Bed" and so forth.
10. Now go to diagnostic (##634#) and enter *#9908# to get to the GPRS settings. This is the same step you had to do during the windowbreak part of this program except now you will select the "StraightTalk" XML you put in at step 9. Save, reboot and Voila! You should have working data and MMS. Send a test message to another phone and reply with another MMS to make sure you're receiving.
Please note that I've recited these steps from my diminished memory of close to 50 years old and I may have forgotten a step. The most important things to consider are that you have to unlock with windowbreak and you have to get that Straight Talk XML in the proper folder. Once you can get step 10 out of the way you're golden. I won't ask for PayPal donations because others have done the leg work, all I've done is consolidate some files and info and put them together. For that, a simple "Thank You" is all I need. God bless you and God bless our troops overseas.

Just wanted to revise by saying that this same procedure has netted me the same results with a Euro-version Omnia 7. Of note to those who have this wonderful piece of hardware, there are some extra settings that need to be played with for the optimal experience. The Omnia 7 is a tri-band phone for its 3G data. I was pissed beyond belief when I first got the phone and noticed a T-Mobile splash screen and only EDGE speeds. Luckily, there is a key in engineering mode that enables "all WCDMA" and Bam!! I have a beautiful 3G+ icon sitting on my header bar.
After you're in the diagnosis app (##634#) punch in *#2263# to get you to "Test Mode" for band preference. Select option "2" and on the next screen select option "6" for "WCDMA ALL" and exit. That's it! I wish it were more complicated than that.

Just Tryin' To Help
Simple. There is a mountain of posts from people who hadn't figured out how to get MMS and/or internet sharing on their Focus phones. I stumbled upon a solution and decided to share it with all who could use it. I don't personally know anybody who would use this nor am I in it for the money or the glory. It's the least I could do since Heathcliff74 and others are the ones who have made the tools to accomplish this. Some of us don't bother to stream video or music, but I'm sure there are far more of us who send pictures to their friends and family or need to send/receive data on their tablets when away from a hotspot. In the end I did it out of a sense of community, and that's what XDA is, a community. Peace, love and soul.

Thank you! I am on StraightTalk with a Samsung Focus!

You lost me on step 9 where you said "Cut and paste to the "provxml" folder in the root directory." where do I find this directory? Is it accessed from within WP7 Root Tools?

The provxml file is found in WP7 Root Tools. When you first open the app, go to "explorer" and scroll down to find the folder. It should have already been placed there during the windowbreak operation and there should be 1 or 2 xml files already in there (windowbreak and/or system tweaks). If it's not there, you can either repeat the windowbreak procedure or create the folder by pressing the "+" button at the bottom of explorer.

I open the app WP7 Root Tools it starts with registry open. When I scroll over to explorer it closes and goes to the Apps page. It appears all the other sections in the app open fine except Explorer. Now I do have an app called DiagProvXML. Could this be causing a conflict with the WP7 Root Tools?

Disregard prevouse post. I removed the DiagProvXML app, re-booted and was able to complete step 9 and 10...It works!! Thanks!!

cant get xml to download
i emailed it to my focus but i can only open the file it wont download to the phone and when it opens it opens in internet explorer. i did this back with the chevron nodo unlock with no problem. i am using a custom rom could anyone tell me how to get it to work?

biggmax81, look at step 9 in the tutorial. You saved it when you opened it in IE9. It's in the folder called "Application Data> Volatile> Email Attachments> Attachments. I did have some feedback from another user who had a custom ROM and was having difficulty getting GPRS settings to load the StraightTalk.xml file.

fatclue,
I have a Samsung Focus and just switched to Straight Talk to find out about this problem. I stumbled across your instructions...thanks!...and have been able to get through each step until I got to step 9. Have you run across anyone who wasn't able to save the file? I am stumped. I can open the file from my email but saving it is another story. When I look in root tools I cannot find it anywhere, not surprising since I can't save it. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like biggmax and I have the exact same problem. Sorry I missed that. I didn't mean to repeat. I do find subfolders in the email/attachments folder, but no Straighttalk.xml is in there or any file.

When you email it to yourself you have to open the file in email. You'll see the progress dots and it should say "downloading" in the header bar. The paper clip will turn into an xml file signaling a successful download. Open the file and IE will show the xml data, close it and look in the folder and you should see it. biggmax has a custom ROM so I don't know if that's an issue and you didn't specify either. Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply fatclue. I don't have a custom ROM. I am new to this, so please pardon my ignorance. Everything you said should happen is what happened on my phone (dots, downloading, IE, etc). The only thing is that I do not see it as a file in root, I see it as a subfolder and it is not xml. It is disheartening, to go through all of the steps and get this close, to come to a roadblock.
Jen

The xml should be in Application Data> Volatile> Email Attachments> Attachments as an xml file. From there you cut & paste to the provxml folder in root. Read step 9 carefully and start all over again if you have to. Get up, walk away and have a cup of coffee if you have to. As I mentioned, I'm a noob to this OS as well so don't feel bad. I nearly gave myself kidney stones and lung cancer from all the times I had to walk away for coffee and a smoke. Hang in there, a few more technically savvy people than myself have had difficulty but made it work.

Thanks, fatclue. Any excuse to have a cup of coffee, right? I went back and did it all over again. Deleted the email off of my phone, sent another email, downloaded it, looked for it in Application Data> Volatile> Email Attachments> Attachments... No xml file, just subfolders with no files in them. Is there another way to get that file on my phone? What about that QR code that you posted? If I went about it that way, where would it put the file in the root? I am trying to keep a cool head and not get frustrated. I would love to throw my phone across the room right now.
Jen

It just occurred to me, did you extract the xml file from the zip? You need to extract it and put anywhere, say your desktop, and email the extracted file. Maybe I need to edit my instructions if that's the case.

I have good news! I got it. I found the xml file in an Internet folder in root. Don't ask me to find it again...I don't think I could. LOL! I just had to hunt EVERYWHERE in root for it. I almost jumped out of my chair when I saw it.
To answer your question... I did extract the file from the zip with WinRar and saved it to my desktop.
Thanks so much for the instructions. I couldn't have fixed this bug without them. Take care!
Jen

thank u for the info, now my focus is working properly with straight talk.
for the guys that are using the custom rom. the xml file can be found in window\profiles\guest\temporary internet files................ it will be in one of the sub folders u just have to take you time and look through every one of them

I have a Samsung Focus S windowsbroke with root tools installed and it's SIM unlocked with a Tmobile SIM in that works fine. I have unlimited messaging (no data) how do I set up mms on my device for TMobile?

This works awesome getting Straight talk working with MMS. Now has anyone been able to get tethering to work with this fix applied. I tried and lost my data connection and had to re-install the Straight talk xml file again.

Three things, first you will need to find the xml for T-Mobile. Second, why T-Mob? For $45 more you get real 3G and it's unlimited. I used to have T-Mob until I found out about ST byod, it's no contest. Third, without a data plan this is all a moot point, you need data for MMS.

The internet sharing should have been enabled when you did the windowbreak. I haven't had any issues with tethering and I haven't read any reports with what you're describing. I now have an Omnia 7 and I did the same procedure and it's working the same.

I can't get this to work either, have I missed something?

I put the cab on my MDA Compact and installed it.
Using File Explorer I can see a folder in Program Files and an Icon in the Programs window.
This has the four Icons, Hide, Lock, Unhide and Unlock!
My extended-rom folder is visable in File Explorer so I tokk it that I didn't have to 'Unhide' it.
So pressed the unlock icon and got a window with debug and ok in the title and Error: I click ok.
1.When I get back to my desktop I have another debug, etc window with following FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION. I click ok.
2.The next debug window says The Parameter is incorrect. I click ok again.
3. The next says extrom unlocked. I click ok.
I am taken back to '1' and go through 2 and 3 again. The windows go away.
I soft reset the MDA, by using the stylus underneath it.
I go back to file explorer and into the extended_rom folder and try deleting the TMO_Wallpaper and am told access is denied!
Not sure what else to try, but guess the unlock didn't work or I have missed something. Please be kind, if you reply.

Hi,
I am not sure if it works for you to,
I have had the same problem, FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION on my screen. Device didnt unlock either.
Tried to do it in any possible way,
even on the fora over here.
But the one wich i skipped, or didn't found was the correct one for me,
Personal i Think my Windows Screwed the files up, but thats F%CK*#G WINLOOS.
So i went to the ftp part of this site, and just downloaded the unlock tool again,
Just did an hardboot of the device, installed the fresh download i obtained.
First unhided it, than reset, followed by unlock, and guess what it said?!?
Rom was unlocked.
So not an single error in my case, hopes it will work for u to.
It is not always your mda who fails, your pc can do this much better.

How do I get to the FTP site, please?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
Ok I think i have got to the ftp site, I say I think because when I clicked on the link it took me stright there, it didn't ask me for a username or password :?:
Anyway I searched all what I thought were the relevant folders and some that weren't and couldn't find the file
Can anyone help?
your device is called magician as codename
try looking in the sub dirs under there
I don't want to appear rude, but I have searched all the folders, etc!

How install XML files?

I can't install xml files
Please tell me? how i can do that
You cannot install xml files Think about it - its just a text inside...
edit: XML stands for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML
it's related to html as internet pages it's not a bin file which one can install
XML file is an input to another program and that would read the content and install whatever needs to be.
i have the same problem!!
The XML format files opend by document as defult, I cant install any XML format files.
Also in pocket PC the explorer is the defult to open XML files.
ad2master: Are you dumb, or just cannot read? Everything is explained above. I would just add, that XML is TXT, or INI file. It's just text prepared for a program to read.
When you got such a file from and what makes you think, that you can install it?
i think he's meaning is to load info in OMA xml foramat files that wince supports
like registery info ,network setting info,or file operation info etc.
We don't know it. Anyway for future reference: If you have problems with "XML file installation" provide us with example, we will be able to check what it contains.
Good news and Bad
BAD news = (jakubd) is a jack *EDITED*.
GOOD news = I have a fix.
WARNING = using this fix may make you kick yourself. I did.
PROBLEM = When you open the compressed file you see the content, some files and the important SETUP.XML Like years of Windows use has taught us, the SETUP file is the only one we need. It's like magic, we click and the preprogrammed file will do the rest. BUT all you get is TEXT. Thats crap.
CAUSE = You have WinRAR installed on your desktop PC, Don't you??
See WinRAR is telling your desktop computer that your .CAB file is a compressed .RAR file. It is but we will not get in to that. Confusion sucks.
FIX = You don't have to do step 1. but I recommend you do.
1. (on your desktop computer) go to START and to ALL PROGRAMS and open WinRAR. That was easy. Now click on OPTIONS and go down to click on SETTINGS (or just hit (CTRL + S) Click on tab INTEGRATION. On the left UNCHECK the BOX marked CAB. Say my name over and over while dancing on one foot.
2. Take the file you are installing (STILL COMPRESSED) and put it on your device. Use your FILE EXPLORER in your device to EXECUTE the still compressed .CAB (note: if you did not do step 1 the file will LOOK like a .RAR on your PC but a .CAB on your Phone/Device.)
SHORT ANSWER = do NOT uncompress the file on your Desktop PC. Just take the file just as it was when you downloaded it and put it on your Phone/Device. Use your Phone/Device file explorer to locate the file and execute it.
NOW = Kick your own *EDITED*
So going back to the very begining - you never ever install XMLs. Good explanation DJ_SirG - I would never guess that anybody at any occasion would try to decompress a CAB.
But as usual I'm asking myself - how many times people will as on forums "how to install xml file"... At least I have a place to point them to. Thanks!
DJ_SirG
Thank You very much for helping, problems solved now.
jakubd
I am just asking for help, you can help others if you want, or just keep your self away with your huge experience.
ad2master: I'm doing my best to help, but if somebody asks you "how to do X" and the person receives answer "you don't because it makes no sense" and then another one asks the same thing multiple times in multiple places instead of thinking for a while you can get irritated. Also when people ask hundreds of times the same question (like where is reset button) that are clearly explained in Wiki or were answered many times here, you can also get irritated and more over - they get irritated when you point the to the wiki or suggest HR.
And of course sometimes you can miss the point (like here) because of lack of information from the other side. I would never guessed that smb could first decompress a CAB file to install it and you need to know this part to understand the whole story with "xml" installation problem. It's like a person calling Ford support and asking "my car doesn't go" just to find out, that it run out of gas - it's so obvious, that you need fuel, they you don;t even take it into account. Same with CAB - it's so dead obvious to me that you don't decompress it before installation, that I would never take it into account.
So if you want precise and effective answer, check the wiki, search, use google, if nothing comes out and you think your are the first in the world with this specific problem: ask. But because you think you are so special, please try to be specific: give all the details that might be needed. answer all the questions that might help other people solve your problem. There is always somebody that might be able/want to help you, but you also have to help him.
I think The miss communication is when we would click on the .cab file to download it once it showed up on our desktop, it was a .rar. Like the file name was changed. So if you download XDA.CAB once the file was on your desktop it said XDA.RAR. So you click on it to find your .CAB file just to find .XML and let the confusion began.... Thanks for your help guy's and I hope this helps you. If it do, reply back with a quick word so we know the post is getting used and not deleted...

I Must say to all you.."A-Holes" That Spitted on us for asking stupid questions like that you guys bashing us this guy actually knew what we were talking about and helped us why you guy stood back and did nothing Grats buddy you answered my question. and it just goes to show not everyone knows everything about computers.
The only reason I found this fix was because I ran out of hair to pull out.
We are not all rocket scientists
I too had no idea how to install a .cab file with a setup xml file. Once the one gentlemen said to install the file with the file explorer it literally took as long as it took to open that file. I am really disappointed that I had a question and in order to get it answered I have to go through the abuse of being called names and being cursed at. I get enough of that at home. If you are going to run a web site that is a computer forum, you can safely assume that most of us do not have your knowledge; otherwise, we would have the web site. Nonetheless, thank you for your web site. My program is now installed. Merry Christmas, Lindy Wise

I have read all the previous messages but cannot get the answer im looking for. I have a folder which contains text files and a xml file. I do not see any setup file for me to click on.
but as all the previous posters, you probably didn't download a folder, but an archive and you extracted it to see the folder and its contents. that was the mistake. the .cab file appears like an archive on the pc, but is the extractable setup for the phone. try it again by extracting nothing and copy the file to the phone and start it there.

Will the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade work on a Unicel HTC S621?

Hello,
I am new to this forum, and I have read through a lot of the links and threads about this, but I have not found the answer to my question. Will these ROM Updates work on a HTC S621 that I have through Unicel? The phone is unlocked, but I dont know if that means that I still have to download the file that will unlock my phone? I am very interested and eager to upgrade my pnone to Windows Mobile 6.1, but I am honestly afraid that my inexperience with doing something of this nature will "brick" my phone and I will be without a phone. It irrates me to no end that neither HTC or Unicel are going to bother to come out with an official update for this phone, so if I want the lastest update to the phone, I have to go through unofficial channels. Could someone please tell me if this will even work for my phone before I try to do it? Thank you
Larry
Yes it will work sir, just follow the tutorial and upgrade... The tutorial is linked below in my signature... Also, as a beginner I would recommend using Ricky's rom version 24. ... if you need any help let me know okay... also, make sure you run connection setup after the upgrade...
Am I going to have a problem, or should I do something different since the instructions seem to be written for a phone on T-Mobile? I am really fretting about bricking my phone and I dont know if Unicel will do anything for me if I happen to brick the phone because I did something wrong. I would really like to try flashing the ROM on the phone to Windows Mobile 6.1, but I am just nervous, I guess. Thanks for the help and wish me luck
Larry
You should be fine if you read it over (print it out) and can follow directions. The main problems people run into are keyboard layouts and 270 errors.

Yah exactly just read and follow instructions word for word...
nobody on this site can promise that nothing will go wrong, but it is usually determine that when something does go wrong, it is because the instructions were not being followed.
you sound a little too nervous to me to be trying this, you may want to either find someone else to do this for you, or take a deep breath, have a beer, and then dive in.
i've done this three times without an issues.
I did it to my unicel S621, and works wonderful! pm me if you need the internet settings after...
He will definitely need the internet settings... for sure...
yes, I need the internet settings please. also, how do I get rid of the "fav5" thing off the phone?
Thanks

which version are you using? which rom version (i.e. are you using Rickys or Kavana's)
If you are using Ricky's go all the way down to the last thing on the homescreen which should be settings... and then scroll to the right to Chome settings and then in there you can unclick everything you do not like... everything that is bolded will show up on your homescreenv and everything not bolded will not show up..... then restart your phone and you should be on the go...
Hello,
Okay, I have successfully installed "Ricky's" ROM. I followed the steps to the letter in the newbie thread. I installed the keymapping .CAB file. My phone needs the Unicel Internet settings. I have once before reset my phone back to factory specs, which required that I have to go into the local Unicel store and get the internet settings and install them, the problem now is that I could use Wi-Fi to access the internet before with my phone, even though I couldnt through my data plan/cell service. Since I updated the ROM, I cannot even access the new through Wi-Fi. In the instructions, it states that you should run the connection wizard, but the problem is it only lists T-Mobile, AT&T, and Carolina in my phone, not Unicel. I know that the GSM partner of Unicel was bought by AT&T, but I dont want to set my phone to that because I dont know if it will screw everything up if I do.
So what advice can you offer me? Will getting the Internet Settings from Unicel or member Outragis solve all of my problems? Thank you for any suggestions! By the way, I Love the new Windows Mobile 6.1, now I just have to learn how to use it!
Thank You,
Larry

I know that the GSM partner of Unicel was bought by AT&T, but I dont want to set my phone to that because I dont know if it will screw everything up if I do.
So what advice can you offer me? Will getting the Internet Settings from Unicel or member Outragis solve all of my problems? Thank you for any suggestions! By the way, I Love the new Windows Mobile 6.1, now I just have to learn how to use it!
Thank You,
Larry

Yes just private message that guy that said has the Unicell internet settings as you will need them in there and especially for receiving MMS (picture messages)... so just ask him to give them to you and I bet he will be more than happy to provide you with them.
I did PM him, I hope to hear back from him soon. I Imagine I would need to use Active Sync at home to download the updates to my phone.
Thanks for the help and advice, I am really liking the new interface!

I need Help!
Okay, so I am trying to find the files I need so that my HTC S621 that I have through Unicel to work and connect to the internet. I have contacted Unicel and they sent me a link to a file, and this is supposed to work, but it doesnt.
Here is the email:
Subject: Doing a Hard reset on the HTC621 will remove all Unicel settings
Issue/ Findings:
After doing a hard reset on the HTC S621 you will no longer have any Unicel settings and will need to reinstall them for WAP and MMS. To hard reset the HTC S621 (with the HTC S621 powered OFF) press and hold the 2 soft keys and than press the power button. Do not let go of the soft keys until you see the message to reset your HTC by pressing the send button.
Resolution:
The setting can be reinstalled into the HTC S621 by using a CAB file and a Micro SD card. The File has been posted on the internet and can be installed 2 ways.
Option 1: Active sync
From your PC go to http://www.unicel.com/devices/htsc621.html and download the zip file to your PC. Open the zip file and extract all the files within to your PC. Once this is done you should see the folder 2577 on your PC. Now connect your HTC S621 to your PC (you will need ActiveSync for this part and a memory card) and open Explore. Open “My windows mobile-based device”. Now drag or copy and paste folder 2577 from your PC to “Storage Card”. Once this is complete, unplug your device from your PC and power-cycle your device. After waiting a few seconds, you will get a prompt to do an auto-configure, press yes and your files will be installed. Once the auto-configure is complete, you will be asked to do a restart. Press yes to restart and all the settings the device had at the time of purchase should now be on the device.
After the device has power cycled, a change needs to be made to the GPRS Authentication to ensure connectivity. Please follow the steps below:
Start
Settings
Connections
GPRS
Unicel Info2Go
scroll to authentication type
CHAP
Done
End
Option 2: SD card reader
From your PC go to http://www.unicel.com/devices/htsc621.html and download the zip file to your PC. Open the zip file and extract all the files within to your PC. Once this is done you should now see the folder 2577on your PC. Now open your SD reader, with your memory card installed in the reader, drag the entire 2577 folder to the SD card. Once this action is complete, install the SD card into the S621 and turn on the device.

Unicel Info2Go

Okay, so I downloaded the file and did what it said, but it is not auto running the file and doing anything. Is this because I upgraded the ROM and the file will not work with Windows Mobile 6.1? I am getting a little flustered and I love the new OS, but I would like to be able to use the internet on the phone. I cant even connect to the internet through Wi-Fi.
Does someone have the correct setting file for a Unicel HTC S621 that I could have to get my phone working right? I would appreciate it!
Thank You
Larry
Couldn't you just add them manually
Start - settings - then each add settings...
I'm surprised Unicel doesn't make them easier to access
This link might help but your easiest bet is getting the guy who commented to read you his.

Running out of memory?
I recently did the Kavana 6.1 upgrade on my Unicel/AT&T HTC S621. Everything is working fine except that the phone is constantly running out of memory (Which, actually, is not really fine...) Using the Free Memory app doesn't really work, as it will free only a KB or so, and it doesn't show the correct amount of RAM, in any case (usually around 5K instead of the 64K actually ob board). Any ideas?
Oh yes, and also, the phone now calls itself a C720W, which is a Dopod (Asian carrier) version of the S621... Anyone else?
Thanks,
John

HTC VOGUE (SPRINT/Flashed to METROPCS) HTC_GUARDIAN file issues..(INTERNET SETTINGS)

Ok my issue is this..I flashed my Voude to metro pcs, I used IAMCOKEMANS loader and the alltell rom, since then no matter what rom i use the Web setting or internet settings wont keep..at all it will reset the pass word right after i save the new one.. ive tried every thing and have spent a month trying it before i decided to ask for help.
what can i do about thi problem? there are plenty of people out there claiming that they got internet and mms working flawlessly but yet no one has posted how.. so its my opinion that no one has yet lol.. not if your using the same phone from sprint that i have..and when they list the proxy settins and web setting for metro to put onto the touch there all half ass.. they do not give a step by step on how they disabled the HTC_GAURDIAN files to be able to keep there settings, and 2 they they dont tell you how they over written the file..as some have claimed..
Ok HTC_GAURDIAN is not in the start up folder in NEW roms!!! it can not be disabled by any means i know.. and every kitchen ive used just doesnt seem to install properly or when i dl the files to build an os it wont find the syw or any thing..
So can any body out there please tell me the best rom to use with this phone (thats loaded ..lol the rom i have now is really nice) and a defiant way to get the internet working on this phone from print please on the metro net work.. thanks all and thanks for the support.. after it is done i will right a guide documenting how i get it done in detail.. thanks.
Lmao it has been done and i used to have cricket and i overworote the Guardian file easily...
First off its a hidden file so your not going to find it easily.
Second its not in the Start folder inside the windows folder, its inside the windows folder just chillin there
You need
1)Total Commader
2)A blank notepad file saved at HTC_GUARDIAN.exe
once you have that... input the guardian file to somewhere on your phone and insall total commander.
you will find 2 files in the windows folder usisn total com. that are called "htc_guardian.exe" and a shortcut to this file. you need to replace the HTC_Guardiand file with the one you made and that should solve your problem with the proxy and credentials messing up...

Thank you for your reply.. ok i tried it and it is not working.. it says it can not be over written since it is part of the rom? i read some where that they disable it to being over written in the new 6.1 cn any one confirm this?
P.S. i found HTC_GUARDIAN.EXE AND HTC_GAURDIAN.ink???
Ok i got the file over written and i reset.. the problem now(wich leads me to belive that i didnt over write any thing ) is that if i create or modifie a connection no matter what pass word i put in (metropcs) I save it and i can reopen it and it goes right back to a 14-5 digit pass word and when i open a page in internet explorer it says page can not be opened due to a connection loss..any help on what the best rom would be and how to get the web working would be great!!!!! and i allso heard there is a new metropcs rom in the works or being checked out right now... CAN I BE A TESTER PLEASE!!!! thanks

[REQ] Wake On Lan

Hi Guys & Gals,
Quick question.....
Has anybody come across a Wake On Lan app for WM6. I have a small home network that I start up from a central PC using Wake On LAN function in the system BIOS. I would like to be able to start my PC's from the Blackstone over my WLAN.
Everything within the LAN & WLAN is running reserved DHCP from the router side so all IP's are constant including the Blackstone.
Cheers for any replies.........
Gilgamesh.......
I don't know if any solution exists but I've read a tutorial (in french sorry) on how to make a wake on line application for wm
http://blogs.msdn.com/pierreca/archive/2009/03/19/wake-on-lan-depuis-votre-t-l-phone.aspx
Hope that could help you
Try this..
jpl69 cheers.........The app works like a charm but is a little basic. Needs the full MAC to be entered manually each time.
What would be really nice is some way of associating the MAC to a short meaningful name that could then be listed so it could just be selected from a list rather than enter the full MAC each time. In this way multiple PC's coud be listed.
While we're at it would also be nice to have a standby button as well so PC's within the LAN could be started and shut down form the app.
I've never written an app before and would either like a few pointers to see if I could do it or see if anyone out there would consider building on the app already posted.
Any suggestion welcome.......
Besides developing an app to that (no time) i could sugest make several shortcuts using resco and parsing the mac as parameter. At least you only had to make it once.
Thanks jpl69 for your continued replies...much appreciated.
I have seen Resco but not realy sure which component to download to edit the exe. I have used PEG (parsing) in other apps at work but just need something to get me started on WM6. I could the replicate the exe per MAC and create a single file or each PC
Might be worth looking at vxUtil: http://www.cambridgevx.com.
This has Wake-On-LAN (among other things), and I think it remembers previously entered values. You can't give things memorable names but it might help.

i think he means, like, create new shortcut with parameters. Just for example the same as on pc creating a shortcut to c:\quake\quake.exe and use the string "c:\quake\quake.exe" +bind mouse1 shoot +set mode opengl blablabla
Again thanks for the continued replies.....
Downloaded vxUtil and had a play and it does have a working WOL option but again it's messy and not really the simple solution I was looking for. It does have some other features (ping/sweep, tracert & DNS lookup) but I don't really have a use for these.
Still really after a single icon to start each PC as per the shortcut suggestion above.
All suggestions still welcome and appreciated.
I will just try to clarify what was the idea of jpl69.
Please read the README file included in the attached archive (posted by jpl69).
It says:
"Command Line:
===============
Please use as following:
WakeOnLan.exe [MACAddress]
MacAddress can be either 01E4523AEE22 or 01:E4:52:3A:EE:22 "
Now with Resco Explorer (or with Total Commander, which is freeware) one can make several different shortcuts to WakeOnLan.exe, each ending with the specific MAC.
In Total Commander, after creating the shortcut, one must select it, choose "properties", then "shortcut" tab, then manually add the MAC at the end of the "target" line.
Copy the ready shortcut several times, name the new copies whatever you want and place those shortcuts in a folder. Dont forget to change the MAC for each machine.
Hope it helps.
Now I get it......Sorry for the slow uptake but been a busy boy and head has been fried by other things. Will have a play tomorrow and post back results.
Many thanks..........
I dont know if you still looking to do this but I got this working & figured I would reply here for future reference.
First i have a linksys DD-WRT router, so I followed these steps:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WOL
Then I downloaded the attached cab & its one click & works great!

I have been using the WakeOnPocketPC from Depicus happilly with WM 6.1. Now, after upgrade to WM 6.5 (Dutty ROM Leo Holy Grail), the cab fails to install ("...installation was unsuccessful.")
Any other program with capability to send WOL packets to a particular IP address (and not just broadcast over LAN)?
Although this thread is about one year old, before I developed my WoL everywhere program, I searched for programs like mine here and came to this thread... None of the programs I've found fit my requirements, so I made a program myself...
So I hope your search is over and you've found what you need with my little WoL everywhere... you can download it here:

Create a shortcut to WakeOnLan with a MAC address
Hi,
I'm pasting to this old thread since I found the WakeOnLan tool here and want to share my tips with others.
If you want to create a shortcut so that you have a separate executable (say in your Start Menu) then follow these steps:
Install WakeOnLan from the above link. I put it in "\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe"
Browse to this location with explorer on your PPC. Select the WakeOnLan executable and click "copy"
Browse to where you want the shortcut to appear:
"\Windows\Start Menu" will show in your start menu
"\Windows\Startup" will be run when you reset or power cycle the device
"\Windows\Programs" will apear in your Start Menu > Programs folder
"\Windows\Settings" will appear in your system settings
Select on some empty space (not an existing file) in your chosen folder and choose "Paste shortcut"
Use a text editor on Windows / Linux to edit this new file, or one on your device (I didn't have any that would open on my device so I copied it to Linux, edited in emacs, then copied it back)
Edit the line that looks like:
Code:
40#"\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe"
essentially this is a character count, a "#", the location the shortcut points to, and arguments. Add your MAC address like this and take note of the quotes:
Code:
58#"\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe" AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF
count the characters of the shortcut, mac address, and space, then add one. This is your new number (in my case, 58).
An easy way to do this is to use "wc" on Linux:
Code:
echo "\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF" | wc -c
57
(remember to add 1!)
Now you can repeat the process and paste as many different WoL shortcuts as you like! I've made just one and called it "WoL MythTv" to wake up my media centre at home. Neat
I'll post my sources in the next post since new users aren't allowed to post links...
