Wifi hotspot - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to create WIFI hotspot while I am connected to WIFI on my g3 ?
I am rooted on kitkat stock rom.
Yet to flash TWRP on my D855 G3 !

Here's the homemade solution I used to get these results. You will need PDAnet for PC and on your phone. You will connect your phone to the WiFi, turn on thr PDAnet app and then connect it to your computer via USB. On the desktop app now, connect to your phone via USB, and when everything is set up, right click the PDAnet icon on your taskbar and you'll see something that says hotspot. I don't quite remember but you can use that to make a hotspot off the WiFi connection on your phone. This is just a basic run through on how I make this work and I can be more into depth if you need me. Good luck.

[Q] USB tethering..

So i tried to do some USB tethering today.. and it would not work.. because I am running windows xp on my laptop....
with the OTA it states i need to run Vista, or higher..
anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
It runs on XP just fine. Make sure you downloaded the CORRECT pc app, there are flavors for all the operating systems. I have XP running and it works fine on my system. There is a wireless app that also works with the G2 now and if all else fails you could do that, too...
Good Luck!
make sure you have HTC sync on your comp and it will work np
HTC sync.. just download it from HTC site?
should be nice and easy..
yep just install it and restart
plug the phone in and on the phone turn on usb tether
Is there a specific one for the g2.. or does any touch sync work for it?
yea there is hold on
err. if i find it ill post the link

G2 tethering
You got the OTA update that enables wifi calling and usb/wireless tethering, right?
On your G2 Go to Settings, Wireless & networks, Tethering & portable hotspots, Help.
Under this help guide, go to the website link for USB listed there.
Go to this website and choose "USB Tethering with Windows XP"
Download the INF file "tetherxp.inf"
On your G2 check the "USB tethering" option, and connect your G2 via USB cable to your computer. Instead of using windows to automatically seach for drivers, direct the wizard to the "tetherxp.inf" file.
This will also work for Windows 7 if your having problems tethering there.
Thanks, this worked like a charm. Hopefully it's better than PDANet, which seems to slow down my phone like crazy (whenever I run it Launcher Pro becomes unresponsive at times).

Gingerbread: Wifi and USb tethering

Not sure if this topic ever discuss before... but here it goes again.
For those who unable to connect/share their internet connection with PC.
Simple steps:
1) Enable USB debugging mode.
2) Connect USB cable to phone and PC. Once connection established choose option to "None"
3) Next goto phone settings, Wireless & network settings -> Tethering & Mobile hotspot. USB tethering should now option is available to tick. Tick it.
4) Next if you're using windows 7, auto configuring/connection will resume from here.
5) surf the god damn internet...
Note: MPT USB driver will install driver for the first time. Or you could install it yourself with the MotoHelper_2.0.49_Driver_5.0.0 from motorola site.
Wifi hotspot should be easy I guess and it straight forward steps from the app icon..

This doesn't work for tethering a Linux OS to the Gingerbread phone.

[Q] Xperia arc s to pc companion via wifi not working

Hi, I've recently purchased an Arc s, excellant phone, but can't seem to connect to my pc (using pc companion) via my wifi router.
The phone is not modded in any way, it connects to the router and the internet perfectly fine, just can't get pc companion to connect.
It connects fine via usb, when I'm following the instructions, i can get my pc to show up on the phone as a trusted device, but then it gets stuck in a connecting loop, the phone shows as connection, and on pc companion it says it will go to the last step automatically.
I have had the occasional connection problem to the internet via wifi, but think I've solved them now. The connection to the pc has never worked.
Any pointers would be great, as my partner also has a Neo, but I thought it best to get mine working first
Also pc is running windows 7 home premium x64, Router is a Netgear WNR2000v2 and is connected to my pc via ethernet cable
Many thanks
P.s I've also had trouble setting up a ftp network. Dont know of they could point to some thing. I've followed guides but to no avail.

[Q] Can't connect to connectify/adhoc wifi network?

Just got an htc one x, it was on a stock ICS ROM. I tried connecting to my laptops wifi by making a connectify hotspot. It sees the connection but gets stuck on authenticating/obtaining an ip address. Doesn't go any further than that! or sometimes rescans and then the same loop.
I also tried making a hotspot manually, by the command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork ssid=htc key=......" etc, same thing it sees the connection tries to connect to it but gets stuck on the same thing like i mentioned above.
Then i installed a couple of custom roms, namely maXimus and cm10.1 endeavor unleashed. Same thing on both the roms, neither connectify nor manually created hotspots work. It sees the connection, tries to connect to it, but they all get stuck at the same point. Although it can connect to my neighbor's wifi router fine! ...just the laptop hotspots don't work!
I am using a windows 8 laptop by the way, but i do have the latest htc sync and drivers installed, and the device gets detected fine obviously as i am able to flash recoveries, firmwares stuff etc.
Help me out here guys!?
bump..........
I have the same problem. When I used custom rom (AICP 8.0) it worked well but now it doesn't work for the factory rom.

[Q] Anyone have ethernet access for N7 LTE working yet?

Hi
I am trying to get ethernet access on the N7 LTE using a USB OTG cable and USB-Ethernet adapter. Has anyone had success with patching the stock images, or is there a development ROM that has this available.
Thanks
Alex
Yes. Take a look here. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58868
There's a lot to go through, but the condensed version is that a fellow made a new boot image that supports Ethernet connections via USB OTG. Your bootloader must be unlocked in order to flash the boot image.
Thanks, but it is still not working.
I have downloaded the N7 LTE patched boot image from the thread and flashed it. My N7 boots successfully but using the OTG cable + USB ethernet adapter the ethernet is not recognised (I am using a USB 2.0 ethernet adapter from the company 'Plugable')
I have also tried to extract, edit and repack an official rom, but I get an error during the repack stage. I am trying to use Android kitchen and cygwin.
So I am stuck. Help!
Update.
Using the patched boot image, then rooting, and then issuing the command 'dhcpcd eth0' in terminal I can browse the internet in Chrome. However GMail and Play store don't work connect correctly
Everything seems to work now except Youtube app.
Frustrating thing is that I have to connect to a wifi source, disconnect, and then ethernet works (I am not using a sim). If I dont connect first to wifi, the apps dont see the connection!
I went to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app over ethernet and the device does not see a network! Would have thrown the device in the garbage disposal shute (if I had one).
Finally there is a solution to get ethernet working on the Nexus 7 2013 LTE with all apps without connecting to Wifi first and praying to the heavens. I found that installing the latest stable Cyanogen Rom works, so I can now use this needlessly hampered device for what I purchased it for.
Hope this saves someone some valuable time, unnecessarily wasted by ? at Goggle for reasons unfathomable.
