[Q] Help with new Headunit not powering off and some other minor problems - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi all, new guy here with some problems.
I've bought a new headunit to replace my factory Skoda Stream Radio CD.
My car is an Skoda Octavia mk2 vRS year 2007, so any VW headunit should be OK in my car.
New headunit is a Joying Android 4.4.4 RK3188 with latest official firmware (June 2015).
I was trying to install it this morning for the first time and found several problems.
The most important one is the headunit doesn't power off even with my car completely shutdown and closed.
Headunit install instructions state there are two different methods to connect the headunit.
First and preferred one is using CANBUS decoder box, so headunit power is controlled through CANBUS decoder.
But if headunit doesn't power on when you turn on the car (that's happening to mine), you have to use second method: unplug CANBUS decoder box and connect ACC +12V red wires so that headunit gets powered.
With this second method the headunit starts up OK, but when i turn off the engine, take out the key or even close the car with remote control, headunit doesn't power off at all. I even tried to wait for 20 minutes but with no results. So i had to remove new headunit from the car to avoid battery drain...
I have upgraded firmware from Abril to June version so i got a new feature that allows to delay shutdown after ACC is off.
I set it to 30 seconds delay but still nothing. Headunit stays on.
I already asked to seller, and i'm waiting for an answer. But i thought maybe i could get some valuable ideas here at the forum.
Still don't understand why headunit is not powering on with CANBUS decoder connected. My car should support it, my factory Skoda Stream Radio CD is able to show climatronic info on display.
Other problems i found:
- Headunit buttons don't light even if i turn on car headlights. If i set button's colour in Settings\Elements buttons light for a pair of seconds to show new color, but then they go off again.
- I wanted to set Skoda logo at boot at Factory Settings but asks for a pin/password. Thought it was 126 but it isn't. What is the pin for Factory Settings?
- There's a slight buzzing coming from speakers when i turn on car headlights. That buzzing is not there with Skoda factory radio unit.
Long post, thanks in advance for your answers. :good:

Seems to me wrong or defected harness?
Does your car have factory amplifier? I had one that was making lot of issues. I figured out that the harness was the problem because they sent me a harness that is compatible with my factory head unit. But my car was standard trim that didnt include it. I had to cut one wire they told me to cut it. And it worked fine after that.

Thanks for your answer Scorbion,
Seller is going to send me a new Canbus box decoder. We think it must be faulty, that's why headunit doesn't power on or power off with it. Without Canbus box, ACC coming from VW harness is not a real ACC but a +12V to battery, because VW factory radio does all through canbus, and so headunit is always connected and doesn't power off.
Will update info when i get the new canbus box from seller.
Thanks

i have the same problem. can u fix it?

Did you solve this canbus problem?

Yes, new can bus decoder did the trick.
Long time ago though...

Hardware solution trumps everything
Had the same issue. Im also waiting for the supplier to respond. In the meantime, I just pulled the acc pin off the box and connected the radio to cig. lighter possitive. Works.

Problem with reverse cam (canbus error?) - SOLVED

Hi
I have KLD unit that I've used for approx 12 months now without any issues (execpt from me playing with MCU and Firmware upgrades). I also have a reverse cam installed that has been working fine since day 1.
However a couple weeks ago the unit started to behave strangely, while I'm driving forward then the canbus suddenly send reverse cam signal to the unit and the unit goes into reverse mode. However I get the exclamation screen, since there is no live feed on the reverse cam (it's not powered on as it is connected to the reverse lights power source).
If I quickly change to neutral (still driving) and back to drive (automatic), the reverse cam screen disappears and unit works as normal. But after random 3-15 minutes it goes back into reverse cam mode, while still driving or even just standing still.
I've taken the unit out and connected it to a PSU and had it powered on for two days at my desk without any problem, so the unit it self seems in good condition. But when back into the car the problems starts again. Today I decided to disconnect it all wiring as well to check everything and look for any issues. I could not find anything "strange" with the wires.
So I started to play around with the reverse cam wires to see if anything was sending a signal while in neutral or drive. Turns out the orange reverse wire from the canbus is powering up randomly when not in reverse, disconnecting the orange wire from the canbus box takes the unit out of the reverse mode and unit works as normal (of course without reverse cam functionality). Same thing happens when I disconnect the canbus box itself completely, then of course my steering wheel buttons does not work (which they do when the canbus is connected).
I also connected the cam to the video IN and engange reverse gear then the live feed from the cam works fine when in ie. the AVIN app.
After doing all this fiddling and testing. I connected everything back correctly. However now the canbus seemed even more "broken", as it now engange reverse entirely when in P, N and D. And disables the reverse cam feed when actually in reverse
This leads me to the conclusion that the canbus some how has gone foobar. However I have no clue to what to look for. Is there a way to reset the canbus box itself, or do I just need to order a new one?
This is what I've done:
- Verify that all settings in Factory settings where correct
- Checked wiring and the car it self (car is BMW E53)
- Checked cam working and the wiring
- Loaded MCU and firwmare just in case
- Tested unit separate from the car (PSU power), working fine
The unit works fine otherwise.
As a workaround for now, I've disconnected the orange wire from the canbus box and connected the reverse cam video to video in. And just manually start AVIN when I need reverse cam
Hope anybody out here has any idea or clues for what I should look for?
Can these canbus suddenly "go nutes" or die?
Thanks

I would rather check the transmitter of the gearbox position. If it has problems it should be recorded as a fault
in your car internal memory. Maybe not in OBD, but deeper. Ask your garage to check the internal memory.

Most manufactures have at least two layers, maybe more.
I had something similar. Disconnected the pink cable from the reverse feed on the canbus box and hooked it up to the feed behind the glovebox for the reverse lights instead.
Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. That will reset the computer and clear canbus.
If it returns, then the PCM is probably at fault.

Hm, tried this. No go:-/
Better get my PCM checked out.
Could it be that my can bus decoder is broken? Anyone experienced this?

Just an update:
I managed to borrow a can bus decoder box from a friend, who has a similar unit as me.
That one worked fine and I had reverse camera as normal again with his can bus decoder.
So as work around untill I get a new can bus decoder box, I bypassed the can bus reverse cam trigger on the can bus decoder.
I made own reverse trigger wire connected from the reverse camera power and wired it to the unit reverse cam trigger wire directly.
Now its all working as before.
I have the same issue. There is another way to work the CANBus decoder (like any update etc), except to bypass the CANBus with cutting reverse cable. Please help me.
I have the same issue as well. I was in the process of installing the rear view camera, after which, my headunit is now stuck in 'reverse mode'. If i disconnect the ca bus decoder box, the headunit starts functioning without any issues. I can't find any info on how to reset or program the can bus decoder to its factory settings. No idea what to do at this point, other than order a new unit.

I think I have the same problem as you. Did you end up fixing it?
If my Canbus is plugged in, it's constantly in reverse mode. The only way to get back to the regular screen is to unplug the canbus or disable reverse mode in factory settings (in which case, reverse camera is disabled)
Do I need a new Canbus? Anyone know how this would happen and how to avoid it happening again?
Problema camara reversa (CanBus)
Hello,
There is, on the market, CAN-BUS INTERFACE UNIVERSAL ADAPTER INTERVAL CAN-01 / 02SPEED PULSE PARK BRAKES ETC
It is marketed by 'Motor Solutions and' Connects2 '
The CAN-Bus interfaces are designed to turn this digital data into analog, so the installation of an aftermarket car radio becomes simple. The interface creates the following for you, and saves you time and money in the process:
Speed pulse signal
Ignition Wire
Lighting wire,
Reverse wire
Park Brakes
I think it applies to 'made in China' radios, but they should consult the sellers

PX5 & Volkswagen Dynaudio - Only sound when ignition is on

Hi there. I bought a PX5 a few weeks ago and it's working perfect with Hal9k's rom.
I bought a Golf MK6 with Dynaudio last week and installed my PX5. The problem I have is that the sound stops an few seconds after turning off the ignition while the key is still in the ignition lock. It seems like the amplifier is going to sleep. The PX5 is still playing music. With the original Volkswagen car stereo I was able to hear music without ignition on if it was activated once and the key was still in the lock.
Amy suggestions? Thanks

I never solved this problem. but newer canbus decoders or MCU updates might solve it. is it an old unit you have or a new one?
Hi. It's a new one (Mtcd) with latest MCU
When the unit detected that ignition is off is normal that go to sleep, if you want solved this behavior, you need study the cable connection of your unit, for connect +12V and ACC to the same wire of your car (+12V).
Only I'm not sure if the unit go to "autosleep" mode when press the power switch in the panel of px5.

ask thé seller if your unit is compatible with dynaudio.
I have px5 from isudar with dsp. The seller make sure with me than my car did not have dynaudio has it is not compatible.

The unit went into sleep if I pull the key out of the ignition lock so it stays on until then. With the original VW unit I was able to hear music after shutting down the ignition and left my key inside the lock.

Yes, this is the normal behavior for px5, if you want have music without key, you need review the connection for ACC wire and connect directly to 12V.
May be you can ask to your seller about this alternative connection for your unit.

Sorry but you misunderstood. The PX5 is still running in ignition off-position till you pull out the key but the music stops.
bad post sorry

It sounds like you have an external amplifier which is not fed with power when the key is in the off position. There's a blue cable/white stripe in the wire bundle labelled AMP. Connect that one to your external amp. power input.

New Silverstrong Android Headunit doesn't boot

Hello everyone,
I've just received my Android headunit and before I will install it in my car I wanted to test it with a 12V powersupply.
Now my problem:
The radio is a Silverstrong Aliexpress headunit with a canbus decoder for Fiat/Alfa Romeo. So the only two cables I need to connect for this test would be the Yellow (constant +) and black one (ground). The ACC is in the canbus module. When I put the power on the only things that happen are the CD-drive makes some noise and the button-lights are flashing for like 1 second. Unfortunately the device does not boot up. To be clear I have made a video of it. You can find the video over here: youtube.com/watch?v=KiBg5q1P93s
I can not understand what is wrong with it. Unfortunately it looks like a DOA for me.
Anyone who knows what's up with it?
Thanks in advance!

PX5- steering wheel control issue & reverse camera blinking

Hello everyone,
I have a Dasaita PX5 and Android 8.0 for my Jeep Compass 2018. Problem is that (1) steering wheel controls have stopped working. Used to work for a while when the unit was first installed then one day just ceased to function. And (2) reverse camera video is blinking after driving for around 20-30 mins (doesn’t blink when engine is on and not running)
I've updated both the MCU (V3.45) and system update (20190731) to the latest ones in hopes of fixing it. I also went to factory settings and tried all canbus that had "Jeep" on it and selected the right model of the car but SWC still not working including the controls at the back of the steering wheel. The only thing that's working is the right side of the steering wheel which is the cruise control function.
I had an auto electrician check it and said “there's no problem with electrical side“ and now he's saying maybe the switches are broken (which I doubt) cos when the car battery was changed not long ago (SWC already not working this time), SWC came back to life but only for short period of time.
Please help me figure this out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
PS: also posted on android head unit thread. I wasn’t sure if I was posting in the right one. Thanks!
I'd try to disconnect the car battery for some minutes and see if the steering wheel controls return to work at least for some time.
If so, the head unit canbus adapter might be faulty,
I'd say there's a loose connection in the power feed of the CANbus decoder. More likely the ground wire is the problem. It could be loose or broken at either ends (including inside the decoder box) or along the length. Your electrician should know how to test for that.
Thanks for the reply guys. I’ll check this out and inform my electrician. Do you think the camera issue is related to this as well? I might need to order a new canbus adapter..
The HU gets the transmission is in reverse signal from the CANbus box so if the box kicks in and out so will the backup camera.
I put back the factory unit back in (factory unit worked without issues) but the steering wheel buttons still didn't work. Does this mean that the problem lies in the steering wheel buttons and not in the CANbus decoder?

PX5 MTCE with DSP Subwoofer RCA problem

hI, after get in the car to start driving, in some cases the subwoofer just dont get signal from the unit, the only thing that makes it come back is to unplug the main radio fuse ( in the car ) wait few seconds and plug in back. ( Then start the car/ Ignition again ) , reset button makes subwoofer pop and after the restart still no sound, all other outputs like front/rear RCA outputs and front/rear speaker unit amplifer working fine always
I check RCA OUTPUT when i get the problem and there is not signal, it's like it's muted, this is happening like 1 time per week, because i have it on auto sleep mode, the unit doesn't power off when I cut the ignition so that is the reason I need to remove the fuse, another workarround is to put power mode to 1 minute, cut the ignition, wait 1 minute to get sure unit is totally off and start again, problem solved but...

Gracias!
Did you find solution ? i have updated my MTCE_GS_V2.78_3 to MTCE_GS_V3.44 and my subwoofer stopped playing... PX5 DSP unit.
