A5 2017 (A520F DS) Nougat 7.0: How to use External as Internal SD? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Very new to this, so a bit of details would be helpful.

I found the fix playing with it around myself. This is for Samsung 7.0 firmware (India) on my A5 2017.
It involves formatting the external SD card obviously. It is not made obvious & hidden deep inside the OS, so follow below instructions.
Solution:
1. Settings > Device Manager > Storage > select the three dotted menu that says 'Storage Settings' > Select SD card > Format.
2. This does not say 'Format as Internal', but
3. After Formatting, it will recognise the external as a new SD and ask again to 'Format as Internal'. Choose that and then
4. Move data to SD after formatting or it will not recognise it as a internal. 'Move data' is kind mandatory.
Hope this fixes it for some of you.
Pros:
1. Able to use the external SD as internal, all apps are by default stored in External (e.g Whatsapp)
2. Able to Connect to PC for data transfer.
Minor Cons:
1. Default File Manager shows incorrect Space available (shows a lot more is occupied than it really is). ES File explorer gives the correct picture.
2. Unable to access Settings > Apps > Select Any App > Storage (Force Stops Settings)

Humm. This is interesting. I wonder if it will work for the S7. Let me give it a try. TY!

[Q] move app+data to external 64g card

Hello,
My device sm p605 rooted by de la vega root method.
I m looking for a method to move my app+data on my external sd card. I tried many methods but no one is working with my device.
I tried:
- link2sd partioning external sd card into 1st partition fat32 + 2nd in ext2: It generates a script with shortcut linking but after reboot when I launch linked app It collapses with message of incompatible device blablabla.
- mount folder: doesnt work and not free
- Directory bind doesn t work?
So if someone succeeded in moving app + data on external card, It would be very helpfull he explain the good method. Thank you.
FolderMount works for me.
Try settings -> General -> Application manager -> (swipe left) SD CARD -> Checkbox any app you with to move.
If it is check marked, it should now on the SD card instead. I know for fact this moves the app itself, but haven't tested to see if it moves the data too. This is the native App2SD introduced in 4.3, hope that helps.

That only moves the app & data to the /sdcard/ partition, which is on internal memory, not on the actual microSD card, which is mounted as /extSDcard/.
Folder Mount works great and is free. I haven't tried to move the APK's folder with it, as I'm pretty sure that would break stuff badly (boot-loops when apps try to launch during startup), but the APK's are usually not that big and you can have tons of apps installed on even the S4 16GB which only gives you 9GB to start with (I have something like 30GB of apps installed on mine). The majority of the data used by apps lives in /android/data/obb/ and /android/data/data/ which you can move. I have ran into boot-loops moving some folders because an app (especially GameLoft ones) try to launch on boot but they launch before FolderMount has a chance to mount folders, so they crash the OS and send you into a boot-loop until you remove the SD card. That's on my Note 10.1 (2014). On my Galaxy S4, I don't have any boot-loops and I'm redirecting more than I am on my Note. You can stop apps from starting on boot using Gemini App Manager or Autorun Manager (can only control up to 10 apps with free version), so that's a good solution for the boot-loop. Not sure why so many folders cause boot-loops on my Note when they don't on my S4, but whatever. Maybe the S4 mounts the SD card and the FolderMounts faster, or it has something to do with the JellyBean's ROM on the S4.
Anyway, use Folder Mount. I don't know of any other valid solutions.

If you have Xposed Framework installed, Boot Manager is the best autorun manager. Simple and to the point.

[FIX] Find 7 / 7a "INSUFFICIENT STORAGE SPACE"

Hey everyone,
I know that there are quite a few users like myself who are running into a very annoying issue, it's called the "INSUFFICIENT STORAGE SPACE" error on our OPPO devices. So I looked into a very easy fix.
This error happens when the original APP partition in our internal memory is filled (2.90 GB size on my phone, out of the 32 GB), thus it doesn't allow for any additional app downloads or installations.
This procedure doesn't require scripting or too much tampering with the internal system of the phone, instead, it just (1) requires root permission, a (2) SD card, $2.50 (I think) in your play store account, and (3) a computer.
___________________________________
Here are the instructions:
** As always, don't just be a leech, show some support by giving THANKS **
1) Make sure you have root access, and a software program called "Minitool" installed on your computer. I did this on Windows 7. (Download here)
2) your SD card should be in the format of "Fat32" or "Exfat" originally. If not, make sure that your PC (Windows) can detect the drive (SD card) on your computer.
3) On your phone, download an app called Link2SD and also get the paid version (this is required because it gives your phone the ability to insert a script onto your internal memory that allows it to "link" to the SD external memory.)
4) Plug in your external SD card into your computer, how I did this was through a adapter.
5) Now boot up Minitool on your PC, and you should see your external sd card drive and also your other hard drives are connected to your PC.
6) "Remove" or "Delete" the partition that is currently on your SD card. MAKE SURE TO BACKUP THE FILES ON YOUR SD CARD first before you remove the partition.
7) Now create a partition and set your desired size, followed by the format of Fat32 and make sure it is a "Primary" partition not "Logic/Logical".
(This partition will be your external memory)
8) Next, create another partition with the rest of the memory left over in the SD card, and have that format as Ext4. Make sure it is a "primary" as well.
(This partition will be your linked APP memory, aka your Second Partition)
9) Click on "apply" when everything looks right, the button is located on the top left of the program. Let it run its course.
10) There you go! Once you exit the program, eject the SD card and plug it back into your phone, you will have your phone detect a smaller sized Fat32 external SD card, because the other partition (possibly hidden) is the Ext4.
11) Go into the Link2SD app which should be running the paid "Plus" version now. And follow the instructions, it should do everything for you.
12) Once rebooted, you will be able to download more apps now! In the beginning it may be a tiny bit glitchy because the script might still not be picked up by Link2SD. May sure you have given root permission to the app.
13) CONGRATS! You are now done! If you ever find yourself downloading large apps that require storage space again, LINK that app'a information and data (through Link2SD) to the SD card by hitting "Create Link", then checkmark all the app files associated with the large app.
* * NOTES * *
- If your Link2SD doesn't pick up a difference in your SD card, click on the left menu and select "Recreate Mount Scripts". See what it says, and if there are any errors on your SD card.
- Your SD card should be of at least class 6 and above. I used a class 10 SD card and there were absolutely no speed issues (lag) with the apps.
- This method will work on MANY other Android phones, as long as it can read your SD card and as long as the script is properly installed.
Again, HIT THANKS if this helped you in any way!
I just clear all cache with app cache cleaner

I can vouch for the Link2SD solution, on phones with a removable sdcard.
My Find 5 only has the internal sdcard - so this is of no use.
It will be highly appreciated if you post of (safe) removable system application with details. It's a request. Thanks in advance. ?

hey guys that partition problem has been solved you can now unify your storage and remove the silly 3GB app partition you will need to use a unified capable custom rom in order to use it but they are so much better than colorOS anyway, also the developer @coldbird is working with oppo to get it implemented onto colorOS......please follow the link and have a good read of the first page, ignore the title it is for 7QHD also...ENJOI

I'd like to add, if you are using superSU I had to flash over superuser to make link2sd works correctly on a 1.2.7i stock rom.

LG K10 & Google Android 6.0.1

I have read many threads on this topic and they all have solutions to this problem, but none of them are working on my phone.
Ever since my phone upgraded to 6.0.1, all of my apps were moved back to the internal storage. I no longer have any option at all to move my apps to the SD memory card.
I tried to root my phone to bypass this issue (as Google seems unwilling to fix it), but whenever I try to root my phone, it either fails, or says that it cannot be done. I have tried Kingroot, KingoRoot, iRoot, TWRP, Kingo, and various other methods. Evidently, there is no way to root this phone.
I am not sure if this is a LG K10 issue or just 6.0.1. I have a friend with a Samsung J7 and they have the same problem.
Ideas?
The apps cannot be moved to SD card without using apps like link2sd (root required) or using adoptable storage (android 6+) feature. Actually apps can be moved without this but a number of conditions need to be met so very small apps can be moved in case you even have option built in, vut app data can't be moved without theese two solutions mentioned above.

The problem is that my previous android phones had the ability (depending on the individual app) to move the app to the SD card. Since the release of 6.0.1, that option went away. I checked on every app on my phone, the option is flat-out gone.

That is readily obvious, but still not a solution. This bullsh*t about not being able to move apps to my sd card is not unique to me. I have been reading dozens of accounts from other people with the same exact problem. It is also not unique to the LG K10 phone as friend with a Samsung J7 has the same problem.
Since rooting 6.0.1 is not yet possible, is there a way to roll back to 6.0?

OK, I had to replace my SD card because I have big clumsy hands and I broke it. I have also decided to reset my device to the factory defaults just in case that was causing my problem. So now we are starting with a brand new blank Sandisk 32GB Class 10 SD card and a fresh install of the Android 6.0.1 operating system.
I went to the link you suggested and started with the process. My phone is plugged in and I selected "File Transfer" from the phone so that my computer sees it. I opened a command window on Windows 10 (Yes I have adb installed and running already) and typed "adb shell" and I get the following result.

I have "Developer Mode" turned on. I went into those settings and "USB Debugging" is greyed out. I cannot select it. How do I turn it on?
I was recently given instructions on "Formatting as Internal" on my Marshmallow Android phone.
1. Go to device “Settings”, then select “Storage”.
2. Select your "SD Card", then tap the “three-dot menu“ (top-right), now select “Settings” from in there.
3. Now select “Format as internal”, and then “Erase & Format”.
4. Your SD Card will now be formatted as internal storage.
5. Reboot your phone.

- "Storage" is actually "Storage & USB"
- When I select the SD card and then hit the three dot menu in the upper-right corner, I get two menu options: "Grid View" and "Settings". When I select "Settings", I get two options: "Eject" and "Format". When I select "Format", I am not given any options at all. There is no "Format as Internal" option.

Well, then you are screwed, I don't know why is debugging grayed out, manufacturer done that probably.
Without adb you can't set up adoptable on k10 because lg didn't implement option in setting. Maybe you'll be able to adopt if you root, but that is not possible at the moment as far as I know.

OK, it turns out that if you have your device plugged into the usb, your USB Debugging option is greyed out. Now I have USB Debugging active.
I successfully have Adoptable Storage working on my my phone. Now I can move my apps to the SD card. In fact, apps are automatically installing there. I cannot access the sd card directly anymore. I go to the File Manager and it does not even list the sd card at all. When I plug my phone into my computer, the SD card does not show up anymore. This leads me to two questions:
1. How do I access the card to move pictures and music to it?
2. Is there a way to have the adoptable storage only take up part of the SD card and the other part, public storage?

I have adopted whole adopted whole sd card and then in file manager if you migrated data on adopted card you'll se only one partition depending on which storage data is migrated
1. If you want to use adopted memory as primary then go to settings>storage and open adopted card then tap on 3 dot menu and migrate data. In that case when you plug pgone to pc via usb it will show you the only adopted sd it won't show internal memory.
2. Yes it is. On article I send you there is explained how to do that.

question

With Android 10 (or a 3rd party OS based on it) which I was following this guide for (unable to post link):
install-android-10-on-motorola-moto-g5-lineageos-17-1-how-to-guide
I just wanted to know if it allows you to move apps to external storage, because right now; they install whereever they want, and it seems like most prefer internal storage. I have obviously got an microSD card (a sandisk extreme pro 128GB with 90MB/s write in crystal disk mark). The small internal storage for me is the only issue I have which would be fixed with a way to choose default storage location (there is another issue of it not being clear if the place you want to save a file in on internal or external storage). Also I do have the SD card configured as internal storage.
I just installed an app to record voice calls (automatic call recorder), which has installed on the internal storage. I recorded a message from my three mobile top up but the recording was very difficult to understand even when played back at 70% volume on my PC headphones. I need it because I'm dealing with a company called repairtech.co.uk who told me that the reason they returned my monitor with a cracked screen was because I packed it incorrectly in the provided box (instead of packing material there are some hooks which suspend the monitor in the box with minimal aircushions). Since it was an out of warranty repair, I paid £80 for the evaluation that I needed to fork out for a completely new screen. I only found out about the crack when I overheard a conversation being made on my behalf and checked the box.
I can't do this upgrade right now because I need to have access to my bank account while I try to buy a new GPU which is available from tomorrow.
Edit:
Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot drivers installed on PC
I just tried but could not find a sticky or some such to get these pre-requisites.
Format sd card as internal storage & all data will be stored there
Advantages - more internal storage
Disadvantages - will only work on the device that formatted it as internal. You can't remove it & put it in another device without formatting it. Same for for if you want to change roms potentially.
A fast sd card is also required
Apps can't be "moved" to external storage (from android 5) in the way you are suggesting. Some apps like widgets will even break if you tried
Call recording works - you shouldn't need a 3rd party app on some roms as you can just hit record from the dialer but this is rom dependant.
Try using another dialer that can record or try on lineage mint in the Dev section - you may be using a very old rom if you are following some random guide you found on the net

Will the moto g5 recieve a 3rd party upgrade to Android 11?

You can't "move" apps natively to sd card - it will break many apps
Can't see screenshots as you haven't linked correctly - post full link (put spaces in address if you can't post links)
It is also up to the app where it installs in the Manifest of the app - you may find the apk is installed on internal and the data is on the sdcard
Data will be in the android/data and android/obb folder
When sdcard is formatted as internal you will see the total size of internal storage has increased
If you remove the sdcard you may find some apps will no longer function correctly so you will know its on sdcard
Also you should have selected to transfer data to sdcard when you first format it as internal

Its just apps on the sd card. When I first installed the card, I had just performed a phone reset so there were not an third party apps installed yet.

Nothing wrong with those screenshots
Unfortunately this is just how android works and your device looks to be functioning correctly
If you are rooted you can use other methods to move apps to sdcard eg link2sd (requires sdcard with a second ext4 partition) but the more apps you symlink to sdcard the slower your phone may become. Make sure you link & not forcefully move as some apps like widgets will not function if forcefully moved and not symlinked to sdcard
Also note I haven't used this app in about 10years so no idea if it still functions on latest versions of android as it hasn't been updated in a few years
You will have to Google other root methods

Question SD troubles

I wanted to extend my storage with SD cart but even after turning on "Force allow apps on external storage". I still cant install nor transfer any apps on it. What should I do to fix it?

To make an “internal” SD card portable so you can remove it from your device, visit Settings > Storage & USB, tap the device’s name, tap the menu button, and tap “Format as portable.” This will erase the contents of the SD card, but you’ll be able to use it as a portable device afterwards.
