Solution for bad camcorder audio quality? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello,
I´m still very annoyed by the very bad audio recorded by the standard MIUI Camera app. When trying to record a concert or band, the bass is totally distorted and the audio is unusable. My device is rooted and IIRC there has been some threads about modding the mixer_paths files to improve the AGC or fix the messed up noice cancelling or use better bitrates or different audio profiles but I´m completely lost and did not find those threads...
So my simple question is: was there ever a solid and final solution to the poor camcorder audio??
Thanks!

Any fix for sound quality???

As we all know the sound quality when you take a video is terrible... Is there anyway to edit the video to fix the sound, or is there something that can be done to have good sound quality when taking a new video???
Editing the video after its taken would be pointless, you can't increase the quality once its already recorded. The only thing I can think of is being sure to use the highest recording quality setting. I'm not sure if it helps the audio quality any though. We are limited my the quality of the microphone that comes with the phone.

[Q] bad audio on video recordings

I attend a lot of concerts and whenever I record video the picture is quite decent but the sound quality is awful. It seems like the recorded sound level is too high (too much gain), so the sound is very much distorted.
It is not related with the rom, I'm using RSK team Special Edition ROM and I had the same issue on stock Froyo.
Is there any way to fix this or can someone recommend an app to get better sound in videos?
thanks

High-pass filter on audio

Hi there, fellows HOX users,
There were several topics about HOX's poor audio quality when capturing video or recording through voice apps, but still, there weren't any solutions how to solve the lack of frequencies down below ~100-200hz.
I have experience working with sound production, recordings, so I know that these limitations are only made by software. In that case, there must be some kind of solution to improve audio recording quality and enjoy HOX at 100%.
I tried editing srs_global.cfg (found in /system/etc/soundimage) (there was a guy who tried to improve the sound of the phone's loudspeaker and he kinda managed to do it by editing the file), by changing high-pass filter frequency in every "device"
//BLOCK: (srs_hpf_0) HiPass - Device 0
//=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
srs_hpf_0:hipass_order = 4 // Filter Order -
srs_hpf_0:hipass_frequency = 60 // Filter Frequency -
srs_hpf_0:hipass_is32bit = 1 // Filter Precision (16bit when 0) -
srs_hpf_0:hipass_skip = 1 // Skips High Pass Filter when true - toggle

but there aren't any results.
I don't really understand the types of devices and that they do (WOWHD, TruEQ, CSHP and so on).
Maybe there is any other cfg files who process audio input, because it's the same high-pass filter when recording on internal mic and with external 3.5mm mic.
Let's try to solve this problem everybody, because, as HTC support said
HTC is not designed for capturing things in loud environments

Yeah, whatever... It can do it!

Don't mess with HPF, REALLY DON'T!
I have been experimenting with SRS trumedia 51 and music, HPF messes up when enabled!
these settings you have posted are from SRS_global which won't really do much, install musicBox and you can get SRS working...
There is a reason why you sould not enable HPF without know what values are right, I tried this and it made a mini explosion noise (a sqeek then a loud POP) when starting audio, I highly recommed you do not mess with it. Anyways, SRS will NOT do anything with audio recording, your best place to find audio recording values are in the media_profiles.xml in /system/etc
SRS has nothing at all to do with recording audio, only to output the SRS effect.
I hope this info helps
WOWHD is SRS WOWHD, this is a sound effect which enables a true surround sound experience.
TruEQ is SRS's native EQ settings, not much to say here...
CSHP is SRS CS Headphone. Or as I would like to call it, Dolby Digital 5.1 (Because it IS the exact same effect) (CSHP is only used in srs_truemedia_51) (HTC Enhancer uses this file)
Thank's for your answer.
I can't understand, how nobody is interested in improving audio recording quality, when it's obvious that it's a software limitation thing.
We have an almost perfect phone with good camera, but we can't fully enjoy watching and LISTENING recorded videos, because some "clever" people in HTC decided that it's normal to high-pass the mic and put a compressor on it, without any gain control - in result we have a tragic audio from loud concerts and even LOUD voice conversations (where people are sceaming a little bit).
Maybe someone has a solution?
Maybe HTC will offer switching to a ****ty iphone, which has almost perfect audio recording quality (for a phone)?!

AOSP Based ROM with great audio recording quality ??

Hi there...
I would like to use some AOSP based ROM on my LG G3 D855, but I've already tested many, and all of them have a poor audio recording quality.
On the video recording, the audio is pretty acceptable, but if you try to record any music playing at a high volume with some bass (on shows / parties), you will get a distorted and clipped audio.
When recording audio through WhatsApp (or any other audio recording app) the situation is even worst, even voice-only recordings have a really bad quality and noise.
With Stock-based ROMs, none of this problem happens, I can record songs with high volume even when using Whatsapp and it doesnt sound creepy.
So, is there any ROM with a audio comparable to the official-based ROMs?
Thanks in advance... Im really seaching for it. :crying:
PS: I pretend to record a song with both stock and aosp roms, and share the audio here so you can compare it by yourself.
Bump
I have the same issue and I was wondering if there's any solution. Microphone quality is absolutely terrible! My daily driver is Ressurection Remix.

I'm having the same problem on XenonHD. I can't understand what the other guy is saying after recording calls.
This issue is related to stock roms having proper drivers (or framework) to record sound. AOSP does not have access to this so it is noisy. This alone is the only reason I'm still on stock based rom. I really want to use AOSP, but cannot without proper call recording.

Yea I also wonder about a solution.
The quality is good on the Ressurection ROM?

About sound recording on custom ROM's

On Pie and Oreo custom ROM's audio recording quality is very low by default (96 kbps ), and, which is also important - mono (pseudostereo - technically, in video 2 audio channels).
On Oreo ROM's i can install Camcoder audio quality fix (by rocker00) and will fix it all (patch by nhappyman doesn't fix the sound).
On Pie ROM's - patch by rocker00 breaks the recording from the microphone (patch by nhappyman still doesnt' fix the sound).
It possible to make good sound recordind in video on Pie ROM's?

I know and I don't understand why so little people notice this. Just tried another Pie rom again and I liked it till I noticed audio recording is still in mono and actually only uses the bottom microphone. If people think that 1 camera gives a better picture than another 1000's of people will start to notice and comment on this and multiple threads will be started. This issue ... silence.
For me personally a video recording the audio is part of the deal and if it sounds crap or mono then it is a no go. The mic's on our device are more than capable of good quality audio. I wish I had the time to check the XML files etc again. The fix with Rocker00 took weeks to get it working like we wanted to. I am getting really tired of flashing my phone and not being able to make calls or be available. Sometimes I wish I had a second similar phone where I could just change files, reboot and test over and over again.
emm...bump?
