There is a way to flash back to Oreo Stock if I already flashed to Pie? - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Hello!
I flashed my Moto Z2 Play into Pie a few months ago and now I want to back to Oreo, but when I want to flash back with ADB Tools I can't, because I receive a message of "not signed". I tried a lot of stock ROMs and nothing happen, the same message stills. So, there is a way to get back to Oreo?
My version of the phone is the XT1710-06 purchased on Chile.

Why do you want to downgrade to Oreo?

Assuming you flashed Pie from fastboot update, you should by all means have your bootloader unlocked.
The real question is? What is the exact error you get? And what commands give you the error?
I flash from Oreo to Pie and from Pie to Oreo all the time and the only conflicting file is gpt.bin
That is because once you flash the gpt.bin from Pie update, you can't downgrade that one to Oreo. All the other files can be reflashed from Pie to Oreo. So if this files gives you the error security downgrade, just ignore it and continue with the other files.
Also it is worth mentioning that you must flash the modem from Oreo (fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin)
Why? Because this version of the modem doesn't present any bugs when trying to flash custom roms.
Flashing the Pie modem will give you audio issues during calls on ALL custom roms, except stock itself.
Also don't forget (fastboot oem fb_mode_set) before you issue any of the flashes
And when you're done, BEFORE rebooting, issue (fastboot oem fb_mode_clear)
Without parentheses obviously. If you don't issue these last two commands when flashing ANY Stock ROM you will have issues with the USB and MTP Connection, that is, USB connection into PC won't work at all.

I would want the same - after using Pie for a couple of months, to get back to Oreo. Battery life was much better in Oreo!
On the 3rd command I get a "failed" result, something is preventing from flashing.

Is there a way to use "Sideload" to get the Oreo-ROM installed?!
What are the commands, is there a topic here that I can follow?!

Downgrading Moto G4 Play from LineageOS 14.1 to stock-firmare

I've got a Moto G4 Play and with LineageOS I can't make any calls. So I wanted to downgrade the firmware to the stock-firmware which I downloaded here: bit.ly/2lvXpgC. There are instructions how to downgrade the firmware here: bit.ly/2kPAuNS.
The first command - "fastboot oem fb_mode_set" - is accepted.
But the second command - "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" - produces the following:
"target reported max download size of 268435456 bytes
sending 'partition' (32 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.008s]
writing 'partition'...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.442s"
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?
[EDIT]:
I simply run the other commands and ignored those that failed. Now my Phone boots into the bootloader and if I press start, I get into an endless boot-loop. If I start the TWRP recovery-image with "fastboot boot twrpxyz.img", the device restarts and stops in the bootloader, i.e. the recovery-mode isn't started.
Can anyone help me from here?
[EDIT2]:
I've got the problem: I tried to boot the bootloader without a battery in the phone and just the USB-cable attached. So I suspected this was also the problem when flashing the stock-image and I run through tge commands to install it. I simply ignored that "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" didn't work (according to someone who had the same problem here in this boadd) and every other command was successful. The phone booted the stock firmware and everything is fine now.
Thanks you so much
Work fine for me, only i found the solution here, seriously, thanks!!
GOD BLESS YOU

Rollback to stock failed.

The bootloader are unlocked. But, when I decide to rollback, I started the flash process using "fastboot oem lock begin"; then, every try of flash give me this kind of error, showed bellow.
So, for example, I got this when I tried to flash stock over a lineage rom:
Code:
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'partition' (45 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.014s]
writing 'partition'...

(bootloader) Image primary_gpt failed validation
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
(bootloader) Cancelling 'gpt.default.xml'
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.184s
What should I do? I have tried to flash bootloader.img and use "fastboot oem fb_mode_set", but stay in the same situation.
Obviously, I'm using the exactly stock versions to my device.
Thank you guys!

Chinese Moto Z Play

Heys guys.
I got today my chinese moto z play from gearbest, it still has android 6 and i cant update it from the system itself, since it says the newwest version is already installed.
What is now the fastest and cleanest way to get android 7/7.1/7.11 or whatever installed? Is there any way to maybe get even original updates after that? So far im in love with the moto z but that chinese restriction sucks really.

First of all your are flashing the wrong stuff, stop before you hard brick your device.
It should be fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and you need the TWRP recovery.img.
---------- Post added at 02:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 PM ----------
Follow this guide to unlock your bootloader and flash TWRP, use Alberto 97 TWRP not the Chinese TWRP, after flashing TWRP use the volume button while still in fastboot mode to select and boot to recovery otherwise it will be over written by the stock recovery

That thread is for fastboot flashing firmware and I would stay away from doing that cause you'll end up in a mess.
Flash my stock TWRP flashable 7.1.1 stock rom that's whats it's for https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/development/rom-single-dual-sim-t3620551/page17
Or flash any other custom ROM and you'll see why apple sucks.

Updates are working on my rom for a reason. As for no notifications sounds just flash arise sound mod as described in my opinion and the sound works fine afterwards.
I would watch some YouTube videos on how to flash ROMs using TWRP recovery, it's easy as downloading the rom and gapps if required and boot to recovery and install your flashable zips.
Your phone will not get any further updates and you will not be able to accept any OTA cause you're device is the Chinese version.
So saying that and avoiding hard bricking your device I would highly recommend you stay with TWRP flashable zips. I have said many times that sideloading firmware can be an issue on moto devices and if you read there's a hard bricked thread that is full of people who think moto devices are nexus or pixel devices which is wrong.
The bootloader on moto devices are problematic under certain circumstances , so I have warned you! I have had many moto devices and not once have I had a hard brick, I always take the root of lease resistance which is flash custom ROMs.

It hans now on formatting system, why is that so?
The zip with your rom is on my sc card, i cant copy it on the system directly, after 10% or so it stops transfering it to the device itself while its in TWRP.

Working, running now Android 7.1..1, but i cant enable my sim cards anymore? They get detected and they ask for a pin but they just wont get any network connection, tested 3 different ones none was able to get activated.

Can't flash TWRP - rollback warning. Please advise

I have Chinese 6gb 128gb Mi Max 3 with latest China stable ROM. Finally i decided to get root but i can't flash TWRP over fastboot as in all instructions. My bootloader is unlocked. I get following warning
J:\Xiaomi Mi Max 3 - root>fastboot flash recovery twrpteamwin.img

I tried 3 versions of TWRP. I also installed latest global stable ROM. Same error. What should i do? Please help...

Is it safe to do the oem ignore_anti thing and force it or would it brik my device?
Device should be official global 64gb 4 gb RAM bootloader unlocked official with 720h waiting periode. Currently MIUI Global 10.2.1.0 installed.
That's what I'm trying to figure out, if it's safe to override it. I don't want to brick my phone. Right now i had installed China beta ROM which has a root built in. But Android Auto refuses to work with this ROM. So i have to either go back to China stable without root, or flash TWRP somehow
So i tried it with
Code:
fastboot oem ignore_anti
At least twrp has started. If do not flash any old miui it should work. I think i go with the EU developer one. or may be RR GSI.

So, did it work? Were you able to flash ROM after overriging ARB warning during TWRP install?
If anyone is interested in overcoming this error: I have done the following, here are my steps:
My phone: China Stable ROM, 6Gb/128Gb Mi Max 3
- Make sure oyu have unlocked bootloader
- I flashed Global Stable ROM first, with the chinese software tool: essentially just automated flashing via fastboot, but any method works. Custom ROMs would be flashed after TWRP.
- Copy TWRP image on a flash drive, make sure it's accessible from the phone
- Phone in fastboot mode, conenct to PC "fastboot boot twrp-tw3300.img" (renamed latest teamwin TWRP image for Mi Max 3)
- Phone boots in TWRP
- Select flash - image - and flash TWRP from inside TWRP (no wiping, nothing else, flash image to recovery partition)
- If root is desired, flash Magisk.
- Reboot to recovery, to see that it sticks
- Reboot to system
- Install Magisk apk, check root.
Sorry for late reply, was bussy getting RR GSI up and running. But sadly it was stuck in bootloop. So i flashed a room from mi-glob roombuilder. This worked so far succesfully, but the chines dialoges do not go well with me.
From my understanding, the warning from the Booloader ist just a warning. In this case may be triggered by ARB, wich means that fastboot or the BL can not guarantee that the room or recovery will work on that phone or may even brick it or is at least not from the vendor.
After you type in :
Code:
fastboot oem ignore_anti
basically this compatibillity check is disabled. After that you can flash any room or recovery you like. If you do flash an older firmware on an ARB activated device you will produce a nice paperwight. But that is another topic.
I do not know, which part (bootloader or fastboot) is responsible for the warning, as i am a total noob regarding flashing android devices.

there is an app called Moto Display . disable it, remove the update from the market and stop the auto update
I've tried this method on my x30 Pro / Edge 30 Ultra. After the initial setup and accepting Google terms there is a black screen with a non-working back button. I can take a screenshot and force shutdown the phone but always end up at this blackscreen after going through the setup. Is this related to the Moto Display / Moto app? Cant even get to the point where I can disable it.
Edit: Went through the complete setup (including google login) until blackscreen. Then rebooted to fastboot and erased all partitions according to the XML again. Phone boots up, now is the EU version!
Can anyone confirm if doing this will make the TMobile Volte USA work? There is an issue where 5g works but the moment you make a call, the phone switches to 2g/3g. Thanks.

Same problem here but no Moto Display app to be found either on installed or system apps. Issue is as it recognized an official case switching or some gestures activated as a specific lockscreen that cannot be deblocked. At least this is what is happening to me:
