Question Save to PDF not working - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

Hi,
There is a feature wherein, one can print to pdf from any app which has this feature emabled. Like say from any mail app, one can print an email and system print dialogue opens up and provides an option as "Save to PDF". Earlier this used to save the print in a pdf format. But now clicking on Save icon results in an error "couldn't create file". Is this only happening to me or is it not available anymore on any android device. Can someone provide an alternative wherein I can save certain information via Save to PDF feature.
Many apps I tried from playstore doesn't work as it was available earlier. As soon as I share a web page from chrome to print, the web page doesn't get loaded into the app for pages which are session based which are mostly transactional confirmation pages. Like say making payment for any service or product and trying to take a print of that to save as pdf.
Would be thankful if anyone can help.

Sounds like a bug on Xiaomi's part. Not sure there's a solution. Sorry

I think turning on MIUI Optimisation should do the thing.

Facebook - web browser problems

i have an app that i want to post an item on a user facebook.
i have found a method to do this, which on paper works - but on windows mobile it doesnt!
i have code that generates a html document with the relevent java script in it to trigger the FB.UI. This Java code opens up a popup window to enable the post to happen, the problem is that if i open up the generated html document in internet explorer it wont work because it automatically blocks pop-ups. Alternativly if i had a web browser control to my app it works, however the page is zoomed in way too much and theres no scroll bars or anyway of navigating the page!
i appreciate any help or suggestions. Using managed .net code (vb)
well, I've been working oonon a Facebook app and well. . Honestly, the only way to do it is using raw http socket communication with custom UI. the webbrowser object is pathetic at best. if you find another solution i would be very interested in knowing what you did. if you want help with Facebook communication, pm me and ill see what i can do to help

QUICKEST way to get text from PC to Phone

Lets say you just read a joke on some website, and want to SMS it to your friend (just an example) without using the tiny keyboard on your device, or want Chrome2Phone like text or link sending to your phone without being on Froyo.
Here's a neat trick to do it quickly : Just open your browser and put that text as suffix to
Code:
http://qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=8&d=
And press enter. You'll get a barcode image to scan and the info is on your phone! Beat that!!
Example : http://qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=8&d=hahahahaha.... this is fcuking awesome!!!!
Typo included.
...plus this has NOTHING to do with development.

that was intentional just like this
i think is much simpler for firefox user
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2780/
cool, but .... not really that easy and quick IMO?
you will have to open your camera, stabilize it, AND you have to have your phone connected to the internet to process the bar code (maybe not)?
easier way is use desktop app to send SMS, like EasySMS, its browser based.
you just connect using USB/bluetooth/WiFi and if you see something you like you copy/paste it to the page of EasySMS and send (it has ChompSMS feature as well, i think )
Here's a nice bookmarklet..
Here's a bookmraklet that I've written. It will make a box appear. Any text you enter/paste into that box will appear as a datamatrix barcode (alas, replacing the same tab you are currently viewing, I don't know how to make it open a new tab!)
To use it, make a new bookmark and enter the text in the attached txt file into "Location".
Any time you click the new bookmark you will be presented with the text box.
This bookmarklet uses the free service by the wonderful people at bcgen.com

Thanks! It's actually either fast neither easy.
I mean NOBODY would find it itself.
I've had a great hope can get all the bookmarks from IE to my device
but it's apparently not going to happen.
Luckily we have a great OperaLink..
Thank you anyway!

The purpose for these types of apps isn't really to send yourself a bookmark for a main website, but more to send a complicated link to save you typing in a 180 character or so URL into your HD7, or having to open up your email and copy / paste a link to yourself (spamming your own email in the process).
For example; I'm on my PC browsing deviant art and I see a cool image that would make a great lockscreen wallpaper for my HD7. I right click somewhere on the page, select "Send to Windows Phone". I pick up my phone, open the "Send to WP7" app, and there's my link to that page. I can now use that image as my wallpaper.
Similarly, if you're reading an article on some website and you've got to get to work but want to finish reading that article on the bus, just send it to yourself with this app and easily pick up the same page on the bus!
It's an incredibly handy and ingenious app in my opinion... with lots of ingenious uses if you can think them up.
I sent a question to the dev that I haven't seen an update for - how to remove those darned links when you're done with them. Until then, the app is useless for me, but it does have potential...

There is now an alternative paid-for app called Browser to WP7 that works on the same idea except it allows links and text to be deleted. It also categorises them in the app and allows you to share them by sms, email, search with bing etc.
I'm waiting to see if Send to WP7 gets any future updates because it's currently free and works pretty well for me.

Hey guys - never noticed this thread until today. I am the author of Send to WP7.
Send to WP7 has the ability to delete links (as of the update several days ago - I was stuck in limbo for several weeks. )
Multi-delete is coming in an application update next week.
Send to WP7 has a live tile # indicating how many links you need to download to the phone. You can already send a link via SMS or Email, just tap and hold, select 'Show All', and then click the mail icon. I'll add more options to the 'right-click' menu soon. I didn't think there was much of a reason for things like 'Search with Google' or 'Search With Bing' (wouldn't you have just done these things on your PC anyway?), but I may add things like that in the future.
Send to WP7 will remain free.
Apologies to the OP for not understanding how to setup the software, I still assert that it is not very complicated if you just read the instructions carefully. I do think I need some updates/screenshots to the setup page, though. On that note, I was never able to figure out how to configure 'Browser to WP7' to use anything but Chrome...
I thought it was simple to use and easy to setup but then again I've been using Chrome to Phone for ages with my Desire now.

Hi cxkx -
Note that Send to WP7 Desktop is an alpha release, I have not built any functionality into the phone app to support it yet. In it's current state, it is best for transferring files. Sending an SMS or Email does "work", but you'll then have to tap & hold the item and select Send via mail. The real name for these items should be something like "prepare SMS/mail."
Again just note that this is all in flux, but I wanted to get it out there so those who really wanted the functionality could have it immediately.

I don't quite understand, how do i send an sms? Press the button on the desktop app, nothing happens, am I supposed to write a txt file, send to phone and then send as sms? will the txt file be read and added or will it be an attachment?

Yes, you enter a message (and optionally a destination contact number, but this won't work until I add support into the phone app itself) and click send. The message is sent to your phone using exactly the same means as the note. If you have enabled push notifications, you'll get a toast. Tap and hold the entry on the phone, and select 'Send info via SMS'. It is not the most elegant procedure, I know...
I ve tried sending the clipboard contents but it didnt work, anything I copy in iexplorer though can be send, maybe a plain html page where you can write and then send using the accelerator will do the trick. Keep on the good work!

"It didn't work" is not useful for anyone trying to solve any kind of problem. If you'd like help in configuring the desktop software (I suspect that is the only problem you're having), email me the log (located at %localappdata%\sendtowp7desktop\log.txt) to dave at dave amenta dot com.

I'm not sure why it says the program is executing from C:\Windows\system32, maybe that is related. Usually ClickOnce will set that to your profile (e.g. C:\Users\CK)
It appears that you're getting jumplist callbacks for sending notes, but nothing else - they all use exactly the same mechanism so I'm not sure what'd cause that. It appears you are using a localized version of Windows, what language/locale are you using?
English UK

Send to WP7 now has a desktop companion app

The desktop counterpart integrates with explorer and allows you to right click on any file ex docs and pictures and send it to your windows phone! I am not sure how secure the cloud storage is at the moment but this is some nice innovation for a free app.
Read more here: http://wpcentral.com/send-wp7-hits-back-desktop-app
You can compose texts, emails and notes on the desktop and send it to the phone as well. The application utilizes windows 7 jumplists and works almost instantaneously.
I'm impressed.
Cloud is the future. Resistance is futile.
Well, well, well...I guess if Microsoft wasn't going to step in and make SkyDrive play nice on WP7 (access through browser doesn't count if you cannot sync), then someone had to. I like where Send To WP7 is going. It is quite impressive indeed.
It's just a shame that Microsoft, who probably has more data centres than 98% of all corporations in the world, and is in the best position to promote cloud services ( like Windows Live ) is still lagging behind.
I'm the author of Send to WP7, if you have any other suggestions for ways you can send stuff to your phone, do let me know. I'm open to pretty much anything that's technically possibly without costing me an arm and a leg in infrastructure.
The main complaint in the current implementation is that it uploads to a public hosting site. Live Mesh and SkyDrive don't have suitable APIs for doing this, as I would very much like to tie everything into Windows Live. In order to be useful, the files need to be accessible via an HTTP URL, without requiring a cookie or authentication (HTTP auth may be acceptable, but it needs to be opened in the browser to have access to docs and PDFs.
Also do note that this is a preview quality build, I just figured some people may already want to start using it.
If only you could make a "Send From WP7" app...
The ability to send to other Windows Phones would be nice.

I'm not so sure this is practical, you may as well just email a link, right? if you're talking about from the browser, using the bookmarklet for alternate phones is supported in all desktop browsers.
davux, i'm not sure if it's possible as you don't have socket support, but a possible way to get skydrive access to work is to pass windows phone through fiddler and work out what it does when it syncs a onenote note to skydrive. i'm pretty sure this would be socket base meaning you'd be stuck, but if it isn't, you may just have the information required to directly upload to skydrive, with proper credentials and all.
it's just an idea, but this is what i'd try as a developer (yes i am one, but no where near experienced enough at this stage).

I can actually access SkyDrive via WebDAV already, which is an HTTP protocol. I suspect OneNote sync does something similar, but I haven't checked it out. The primary issue with this approach is that it won't be all that useful. Images and text would transfer well like this, but if you wanted to send a PDF, or Office doc, there would be no way to open it. The only way to open these types of docs is through the browser. I figured a really important use-case is documents, so I decided to take another approach.
BTW - the current build of the desktop app now supports uploading to localhostr.com, serving up files via a local HTTP server, and using your Dropbox account.

Wait a minute, you can use the Desktop app and upload to phone using your own local network? That is significantly easier to trust than a free cloud service.

Yes. Unfortunately I can't make it an SSL connection, I'm not willing to pay for a cert. I will see if a test-signed certificate will work, but that is not actually as secure.

I've been trying out the desktop app with the local Wi-Fi method, and this seems to me the best way to get stuff to the phone. It's very quick too.
The dropbox integration isworking, and quite well. I'm wondering is there a way in future to upload to a private dropbox share?
Even though it's only an early preview, the dekstop app is great. I like the integration with Windows 7; I have it pinned to my taskbar. Might be useful to have a "Start with Windows" option in there. I'm sure you're aware of some of the bugs like the lack of proper icons in the jumplist Tasks and the filenaming issue that causes PDFs to be unreadable from WP7. To be expected with a preview.
From a UI point of view, I think the "Set Transfer Destination" option should not be in the jumplist and should be in the main config window instead. It's not a menu item you would need ever access to again after you've set your dropbox settings.
The WP7 app itself is also coming along great. I'm wondering if you will split the file list into categories, eg Notes, Links, Images, Files etc. Or failing that, have just "New" and "All" categories? Perhaps, for things like notes, you can Archive them into an Archive category... just an idea. Oh, and when a file is sent via the desktop app at the moment, for example a photo, instead of displaying just as "File", perhaps it could display as "File - {name}"?
Great stuff, getting great use out of this app so far, and its usefulness will explode when copy and paste arrives to WP7 devices. Thanks!
A big thanks to Dave for this excellent tool, it is also nice to see a thread wherevpeoplevare pushing the boundaries of what can be done with wp7 rather than just slanting it off.

Not likely, as I've been saying, the phone needs to be able to access a share via the web browser. As far as I know, Dropbox private folders won't do this. That's why I've included an option to mutate the name a bit, so someone can't just guess filenames in your public folder.

I actually have this same problem on my device. I opened the same-named notification channel on a dev build, then I uninstalled that build while it had the channel open - now neither the marketplace build nor new dev builds will open the channel.
I don't know how you got into this situation, but my point is that I don't really know what I can do to help--I'm under the assumption that all I can do to fix my device is to do a master reset (so I'm waiting for the NoDo update). I'm hoping that this bug is fixed in the next update, but I don't know if it's even officially reported.

I've selected all possible countries, which I think includes Germany. I don't think there is anything else I can do for you--maybe I could post a link to the XAP and you could sideload it? My only issue with this is that I'll then have to maintain a secondary distribution channel, and will need to build some kind of updater.
you should be able to post a zune link and it should allow him to access it that way. no need to sideload.
The Zune:// link has always been on my product page.

[Q] Is there a proper PDA Contacts/Address Book App ?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, I had a look here and in the general android apps thread and could not find what I'm after.
As a heavy PDA user all I want to be able to do is look at a contact and see al the information listed for him/her - i.e. (and this is where the people app is an absolute joke) the full address.
Using People I can look at a contact (synchronised quite happily from outlook through the HTC Sync Manager), however when I select a contact and scroll down I find that the address is shown in just one line and not completely. Try clicking on that line and it opens Locations - not what I want and completely useless if I have not data connection (i.e. on holiday out of the country).
At present the only way I can see a full address on my phone is to find the contact under People and then select the edit function !!
