Run AT&T tilt as HTC tytn 2 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi.
I recently bought a AT&T tilt unlocked.
My problem is that the HTC 8925 from AT&T is not availble in Australia.
Only the HTC Tytn 2 is available over here. The HTC 8925 does not have all
the settings and tabs needed for the set up to work with the Australian 3G
network.
My service provider is useless because they only have the set ups for HTC
tytn 2 and HTC australia will not help me because its a problem i have
with AT&T so i should take it up with them, that is impossible to do since
there is no AT&T help lines in australia.
Ive used a HTC tytn 2 over here and its a dream, i was wondering is there
any way to remove ALL AT&T influences in the HTC 8925 and set it to run
exactly the same as a HTC tytn 2. If i can do that the settings for
configuring my HTC 8925 should be available and i can have my service
provider do that for me.
Right now all i can do is use the HTC 8925 as a normal phone without
internet connections which kinda makes it feel redundant.
i know essentially the HTC 8925 is in many way the Tytn 2. But in Australia its simple as this, 1 works and the other doesnt.

Wiki, Wiki, Wiki............ Flash with a new ROM................
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Cooked_ROMs
Austrailian 3G settings for most Service Providers.

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

thanks.
i thought i would need to flash it, i just dont know how to do it and im worried i might brick the phone.

any suggestion on an 'ideal' rom?

i got it all to work fine n dandy now.
thanks mate.

Want to flash my HTC 8925 Tilt.
I have a similar problem in Jamaica and everyone I call is hopeless.
I've just received the unlock code from AT&T, but only AFTER the Unlock shops Jamaica unlocked the fone for calls only and not for data, and I so desparately want to use the internet on a Digicel Network.
I'm seem to be bashing my head against a brick wall as no one really knows what I'm talikng about.
ANY HELP ASAP?
Thx Karen

newbie question, purchasing the T-mobile and using in US?

I would like to purchase T-mobile MDA-3 for use in the USA and Europe. Can I just put in my US simcard and will it work or does it need to be unlocked? What should I look out for? ANy suggestions would gratly be appreciated?
Most come unlocked. I just recived my MDA III, it was T-Mobile branded when I recived it. Came in a German T-Mobile Box, but my ROM was English. I bought mine through Tiger-Direct.
Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? Also, will my current T-Mobile sim drop in and work?
The MDA3 is quad band so you should be able to use it anywhere in the world! So long as you have roaming set up on your sim you should be fine!
Not so sure about the locking though!
I am using it in the US
I have an iMate PDA2K in the US and it works just fine. T-Mobile gets a bit confused when you call tech support and their system can't automatically recognize your device, but I just tell them that I have one of their HP Windows Mobile models that they sell in the US and they seem cool with it. All I did was swap in my SIM card and it started working right away. GPRS, etc all works fine.

WIFI => HTC P3300 variant (MDA iii Compact)

Hi all,
Firstly, I think this is an excellent phone!
I have the T-Mobile variant (MDA compact 3) but I was gutted today when I found out that T-Mobile de-activated WIFI on it.
Apparently it can be activated ... is there any truth to this? Is there any way to get WIFI working on this phone? Are there any firmware upgrades or similar available?
Thanks alot,
Porac69
It is an excellent device, if you need/ want WiFi send it back and get an Orbit from O2 or buy a HTC Artemis P3300. The MDA-CIII does NOT have WiFi on board and cannot be activated, the O2 Orbit and OEM HTC units both have WiFi and work.
As a tip posting the same question four times in the forums will only get you the same answer four times, it won't work - Mike
thanks for your reply.
I posted it four times becuase not everyone reads the same section of the forums and the sections I posted them in are all relevant to this subject.
Why no wifi???
Yesterday I was seriously considering a flext contract and selecting the Compact III as my phone. Until I read this thread and discovered no wifi.
Wonder why they exclude wifi?

O2 don't seem to be worried about people making calls via skype using their Orbit. You make a good point actually. T-mobile have popular web & walk tariffs and offering wifi on the Artemis could possibly affect that side of the business.
Shame really....much prefer a T-mobile tariff rather than O2. On a related note......anybody know if Orange will be offering this? I know the Trinity (spv m700) will have gps too so perhaps they won't want an overlap with 2 models.
It is probably true, that T-Mobile wants to push their Web'n'Walk Technology, but on the other hand disabling WiFi seems rather unlogical if your company is the biggest HotSpot Provider in Germany. Maybe they just want to push the selling of "Higher" and more expensive T-Mobile MDAs, like the Vario II. This company politics just don't make sense to me...I can live very well without WiFi, but it would be nice having it sometimes.

O2 Orbit recommended for US T-Mobile user?

Question for O2 Orbit users, would you recommend buying one (from ebay) for usage on T-Mobile USA's EDGE network? I am currently using a BA with WM6 but really want a phone with builtin GPS and the Tytn II is really too expensive especially as the 3G wont work on T-Mobile.
How has the hardware stood up over time? My BA is almost 3 years old and has a few knocks but still work ok. Thanks for any answers.
As far as i know, O2 phones are open and can work on any network! I have the O2 Graphite .. i ran it on my T-Mobile chip and now i got my THREE chip in it. Sure O2 Orbit will work on the T-Mobile network and you get Wi-Fi as well that T-Mobile stole from us !!
Hi,
My O2 XDA Orbit is NOT open to all networks. This is quite unlike O2 whose handsets are usually unlocked.
I've had mine since August of this year and have never had any problem with it. It came pre-installed with WM6 from the factory.
I've got all sorts of memory-intensive programs installed on it, yet it has never let me down (touch wood!). I'm very happy with it.
kiwi992.
hey, i've got the T-Mobile MDACIII, had it for a year now, and never had any problems! still using original ROM and all holding up ok! never had to do a hard reset either

htc desire - configuration for 3uk question before buying

I am considering purchasing a unlocked desire from expansy uk as im sick of waiting for htc to release android 2.1 for the hero

It's nearly £57 cheaper to buy the handset from a 3 store than from expansy uk!
I thought Desire is only available on contract on 3, can't see handset for £57 less than expansys on 3 website...

They only sell them PAYG in store, depending how much stock they have in. I paid £350 for mine, as have a few others on the forums.

Agreed with the above about 3 store, got mine from Middlesbrough, unlocked & unbranded.
