Q: About G2 build.prop Setting - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering what the build.prop for the G2 says under the ro.ril.hsxpa heading.
So far as I can tell, there's 3 settings thus far known for this value
ro.ril.hsxpa=0 which limits the phone to UMTS downloads and uploads
ro.ril.hsxpa=1 which enables HSDPA for downloads, uploads remain limited by UMTS
ro.ril.hsxpa=2 which enables full HSPA (HSDPA and HSUPA).
What I want to know is if the G2 has it set to anything other than 2, which might signify a special setting for HSPA+. It might be useful in case other phones have the needed chipset, but it's software disabled by the build.prop.
Thanks in advance for any response. I know the ROM has been dumped, but it will take me longer to d/l it than for you to pull it up in your file explorer. If I get no reply, I'll post my findings here anyway.

# grep ro.ril.hsxpa build.prop
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.hsxpa = 2

Virtuous' Desire Z Sense ROM for the G2 has ro.ril.hsxpa=3. Googling has yet to give me an answer as to what value 3 means though...any ideas?

i changed it to 3 also,
changed it twice on the same build.prop. for some reason all the ro.ril's are in there twice.
so far i dont see a difference at all.

[Q] Maybe Someone could find Something like this for Epic

I was just searching around the web looking for ways to tweak my Epic with my msl code settings.... found out that people can change settings in there phones to increase the 3g or 4g speeds even greater.... heres a link for an example. http://forums.precentral.net/palm-p...42-increase-speed-your-evdo-connection-6.html
i was wondering if anyone could make something like that for the epic? because it does not have the option to change the buffer size and some of the other tips

This might be something like you're talking about:

SRF already implements a network speed fix. It's also included in Twilight Zone and VisionKernel.

[GUIDE] Increase your wireless speeds (3G, 4G and WIFI) _ Tweak your system settings

The following thread has been posted multiple times in OG Epic (Epic 4G _ SPH-D700) and can be found HERE :
This is a known linux tweak and I have tested it on the epic and there seems to be mixed results. BTW, YMMV so don't go blaming me for messing up your phone... The zip is made for my rom but will most likely work on all others (even AOSP).
Open up /system/etc/sysctl.conf (make it if it isn't there)
Add the following...
______________________________________
net.ipv4.tcp_ecn=0
net.ipv4.route.flush = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_rfc1337 = 1
net.ipv4.ip_no_pmtu_disc = 0
net.ipv4.tcp_sack = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_fack = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 39000 187000
net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 39000 187000

net.ipv4.tcp_no_metrics_save = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_moderate_rcvbuf = 1

thanks, ill try this when i get ungrounded, 3g speeds for me suck :/ Hope this helps lol
btw guys. using this as well as the proxy tweak works wonders for my phone. go to dialer. type ##3282# it should ask view or edit. push edit. it will ask for your msl. if you font know how to get it its easy. do not use swype keyboard for this. use samsung or something else. grab terminal emulator from market. type "su" without quotes. the type "getprop ril.MSL" no quotes. it should give you your msl. remember case sensitive. after getting this do the dialer steps. so after you list your msl in go to others then multimedia. there are four different parts to this. the first one you will put 0.0.0.0 second will be 0 third is 0.0.0.0 fourth is 0 I cannot remember where I got this from but its awesome combined with tis. remember I didn't come up with it just passing it along.

It didn't ? It's possible that I may be wrong, but I remember getting upset for loosing the Sprint boot animation. It may have been other programs that I was flashing at that time...
See attached pic for my speeds, after the file was installed. Before the installation, I would get 500-800 Kbps.
As you can see, Speedtest is NOT a scientific way of measuring accurately, but it can give you a fairly good idea ...
I remember there being another thread here linking to the original one from the Epic 4G.
Just in case anyone wants to see some posts from older threads on this. So far it works great - depending on the reason your internet is slow. If it has to do with TCP issues then this is great. If it has to do with your area being way to crowded - it has little to no effect. Either way it's worth trying. You'll go faster or you won't.

hey, dumb guy here. i can just add this anywhere in the /system/etc/sysctl.conf (or create one, i saw)?
im kinda iffy on flashing the zip... no one having any problems with the zip, right? i know i can do the whole nandroid thing, but my nands literally take an hour to backup AND restore.. i avoid them at all costs lol
Just flashed it on FB17 leak with Rogue . Works well, didn't clear cache or dalvik

You could re-name your existing file (if you have one) to something like "sysctl.bak" and then create a new file with the settings posted in the thread. Use a file explorer (something like Root Explorer) to make sure the new file has the proper permissions such as "rw-r--r--"
tried this running unnamed with fb15 modem, lost my 4g, had to flash a older modem to get it back

Wait a second... So you flashed a LEAKED modem that's still in an alpha build stage (maybe early beta) but this simple script is what caused the issue? Doubtful otherwise my fingernails are clear because America nuked Japan (more probable).
I hear the unicorns whispering and they say there was another cause for the 4G loss....
What else happened or what did you change before the 4G died?
nothing, i had been using the modem since it came out. i wasnt saying i knew it was the script, wasnt sure if maybe it wasnt compatible with the rom i am using. i will try it again when i can, as soon as i flashed it no 4g

This really slowed down my internet speed by about 400kbps. I only average 400-500kbps when I used to get 700-1100 kbps

It is possible that your testing method (I'm assuming it's Speedtest) is not very accurate. Look at the first post, the picture attached is showing the speed results with the file installed. You will notice that within 2 minutes, I had speeds varying by 1 Mbps... and that's some variation !!!
I'm pretty sure that without this file, I would have never reached 2 Mbps ... but that's just my 2 cents.
If you want to get back to previous settings, just erase the file or restore the back-up if you had one. If you change back to the default settings, let me know if your speeds will increase back to where they were.

[Q] Show H+/4G for HSPAP:15

Hey there! So I have the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile and from doing research I've learned that when my phone is showing HSPAP:15 under Mobile Network Type that mean's it's connected to HSPA+. So what I'd like to do is figure out where in Android it decides which icon to use based on network type, and have it use the provided 4G icon in the SystemUI.apk when it's HSPAP:15 instead of HSDPA:9 so I can visually see when my phone is on H or H+. Now I know people have made tons of zips that just change the H to always be 4G. But I want to see when I'm on normal HSPA or HSPA+. SO! My real question is, where do I even look to find this out? Any developers out there wanna help me out? Or maybe even create a flashable .zip for AOKP b34?
Thanks!
Unzip the GSM ROM (or use 7zip and open w/o unzipping) and look in the drawables folder. Find the icons you want to change and note their names. Download an LTE ROM and do the same, but pull out the 4G icons and rename them to what you want them to replace. Copy/Paste/Replace, close the ROM and flash it.
That's the low-tech way. You could also get someone to make a flashable .zip for you.
This doesn't quite accomplish what I want. I could replace the H icon with the 4G one (already in the SystemUI.apk on AOKP) but then it always shows 4G and never H. I want to see H on normal and 4G on HSPA+. I realize this is probably going to be a little more difficult than swapping an image. That's why I'm asking .

Well if the device doesn't have a trigger for HSDPA:9 and HSPAP:15 to have different icons, it's going to be a serious hack to get it to recognize the difference and display the "relevant" icon.

That's what I was afraid of. I'm pretty sure there's no trigger for different icons. So yeah back to my original question. I'll continue my research and maybe someone here can point me in the direction!

Yes..in development u can post to tell us how to modify the framework, not to request how to do it
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus con Tapatalk 2
I'm also interested in this.
I'm using AOKP ROM, and I've tried to decompile the framework-res.apk and browse and search through the files, but I can't seem to find these icons, nor the code that triggers the switch between one or the other.
Would anyone be able to point us in the right direction to try and find the appropriate piece of code?
I mean, I don't think the code can be that hard to edit once found. There has to be some place where they're associating each type of network coverage with its proper icon, and we know this from another thread:
Code:
UNKNOWN = 0; "G"
GPRS = 1; "G"
EDGE = 2; "E"
UMTS = 3; "3G"
IS95A = 4; "1x"
IS95B = 5; "1x"
1xRTT = 6; "1x"
EVDO_0 = 7; "3G"
EVDO_A = 8; "3G"
HSDPA = 9; "H" or "3G"
HSUPA = 10; "H" or "3G"
HSPA = 11; "H" or "3G"
And now this:
Code:
HSPAP = 15
Which is what they use for HSPA+.
So it's probably just a matter of adding a 15 somewhere, and telling it to pick our newly created icon that I could create in one minute (adding a + besides the H, both in the white and blue versions).
Can anybody give us a hand here?

I think you can do what you want yourself. Link above is a basic "How To" guide on changing icons in a system apk using Windows "Open Archive" functionality. What this means is you can use this method to edit/swap-out existing image files (png) without having to decompile/recompile the apk. If you need/want to start changing xml files however, you will need to decompile/recompile the apk. But for images, you can create/edit (using a Paint program or similar) existing pngs to your liking... or swap them out for other png files... the trick is to make sure the image dimensions are the same and the file name is EXACTLY the same as the one it is replacing (why? because the xmls are calling those images by file name... so png file names must remain the same as the replaced png).
I think the files you want to replace are:
"H" data icon is "stat_sys_data_connected_h.png" and
"H+" data icon is "stat_sys_data_connected_h_plus.png"
I'm not sure about AOSP roms... but on TW roms, these files are found in SystemUI.apk in the /res/drawable-xhdpi folder. Just read through the guide link above and I think you'll be able to change what you want. Just find a desired replacement png (4G, etc), copy, and rename to the ones above... then follow the guide. Remember: always do a backup first (/system /data etc) in case things go south. You can also make a copy of your current SystemUI.apk (before you change anything) and put it in a safe place (computer, external SD, etc) just in case. Hope this helps.
Hey thats Awesome. I'm at work now but when I get off. Ima go through your TUT.... I found the easy way ouy $2.99 on sale ...lol thanks for your input and TUT.

How to Remove 2G bands or others?

Can anyone shed light on how to do this with a Nexus 5X? NV editor (never used it) Thanks so much

Sure it makes sense. If people can add bands they should be able to subtract them. (see the link below, I'm not familiar with how to do what they are talking about though)
Thanks for telling me about GravityBox. I can't tell if it actually turns off the radios, and if they are off at startup. I need 2G and any less secure bands eliminated completely. So preferences are not what I'm looking for. I'm running Copperhead (an AOSP without google services) so I'm not sure that GravityBox would work.
So yeah, I want it to be like the chip for those bands are nonexistent. I think that modifying the firmware/image would work, I dont think I need the GSM chip at all since I'm on Verizon. If I could leave out the GSM radios firmware that might work but have no idea how to do modify ROM images. I bet others would like to remove just 2G or others though.
I can't post links yet but this search should bring you to a page that discusses the NV number editing
