Modded Optimus One Headphones to Sony Ericsson - Optimus One, P500, V Accessories

Hello,
First I have to apologize my poor English, I am from Estonia and English isn't my main language.
I just looked at those stock headphones and I wanted to save that middle control button and mic, so I found old Sony Ericsson Walkman player headphones what were dead (the wire was broken from connector) so I brake the mic and control button housing to half with little knife, and swapped the earplugs with sony ericsson ones.
It's pretty simple to do that, here are some pictures:

If you are trying to make something like those by yourself, and damage them then don't blame me. Cause you did it, not me.

nice job...how's the quality?

Thanks, Well quality is way better than stock earplugs managed to play. I can sure say the quality is same as it were in original sony ericsson ones.

i think i'm going to do this mod to my headphones as well

Hope you don't screw up something, but rly there is nothing much to lose there, stock/OEM earplugs were cheap plastic thingies. And I also got old not working Ericsson in-ear plugs, so there wasn't anything to lose, just gain.

It's so sad that many countries in the world are getting the earphones and not the in ear ones that you just used from SE. India for example got the in-ear earphones with a decent sound quality almost(not quite) on par with EP630s. But nevertheless it's a good mod and a good solution for those who have earphones to spare and have the guts to try something like that
Also if you want to be sure of sound quality, check it with a 3.5mm jack - fastport converter on SE phones to be sure.

Well thanks, those LG ones were cheap plastic anyway, then why don't turn them something useful with broken sony ericsson in-ear plugs.
Gonna buy new earplugs anyway, but those were easy to do, and I was bored. I didn't even untied those OEM earplugs, before to try and listen with them, then I had this plan to do.

Nice! I'll try it!

nicely done!
Can you say on the picture with the pmc where to solder the earplugs?

Here it is, hope it helps a bit. It's not that hard to solder ... :]

thank's, that is indeed helpfull!

No problem.
Also, if you don't want to open up that mic/answerbutton-box then you can also take appart earphones itself unsolder off the old ones and solder new ones back. Only thing, some earplugs wont open well, and broke easly.
Show off your mods also!

Should use aJAYS earpiece...

The in ear phones we got in india:
And in Europe, people are getting this Chinese garbage.
That's why they are so frustrated. I suggest them to change these to original LG we are getting in India. Then only they can enjoy audio and audio effects properly.

I am so jelly to indians. Well, I don't listen music with my phone much, so I really don't care much, but still ...

Well, I don't understand how India gets the good quality earplugs and Europe gets the ****ty ones. Shame LG
Back on-topic, thanks a lot mate for the tip. I also am fed up with the quality of the chinese crap LG delivered to me as earphones and wanted to replace those with some old Nokia that I have around doing nothing (can't use them directly since they have the smaller jack). I was considering cutting the wires, but your solution is more elegant . By the way, how did you put back the plastic housing for the mic/button? Did you glue it or you can just snap it back in place (assuming nothing gets broken when you take it apart) ?

You have to open it pretty carefully, it's glued there, I asume if you use hairdryer on it little bit then it would open up a little better. It seemed to clip back togheter pretty well, but I still used a little drop of a hot glue there.
Show your modded earphones also.

i might try to modd them with my dad's nokia 3k something classic that has 2.5" jack...might try it soon

The howto is missing an important second part - the ritual burning of the Chinese plastic garbage.

Wow, had not seen this, thanks for the input. When I find some headphones that do not serve ... it proves

Wired Headset Recommendation?

Happy New Year everyone!
I've been searching for a specific type of headset to use with the ET4G for weeks without success and hoping someone might be able to help.
I'm a runner and for years have used these Sony clip on headpones:

I've found that they are the only style of headphones that don't keep falling out when I am out running and sweating (the ear bud style keep falling out, I tried the Motorola S10-HD Bluetooth headset but found that enough sweat will short out the Bluetooth receiver on the back). While the Sony headphones work fine with the ET4G, to use it for phone calls I have to hold the device up to my mouth; so I am looking for something with a built-in microphone.
Might anyone have a recommendation for a wired headset with microphone similar to the headphones pictured above?
Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback!
I don't know how the skullcandy 50/50's are (w/mic) but the titans sound really great (no mic). The titans have good low end and good clarity.
I can't speak from experience this is just an idea of what "might" work, but the Monster iSport Immersion Headphones may be what you're looking for.
Pros:
Water proof (You can actually rinse them off)
Light weight
Built in cable controls
***Check for device compatibility first as they may or may not work with Android devices as far as the controls go***
Great build quality
Noise cancellation
Cons:
Noise cancellation (Not good if your running in areas with traffic as you'll need to be able to hear oncoming traffic etc)
Price (The Monster cable site lists them at $149.95) though I'm sure they can be had cheaper online (Ebay, Amazon etc)
They also come in black.
I don't run very much, but I have a pair of Sennheiser MM 50 iP earbuds that suction into the ear.
While I'm at work, I can rack servers, change backup batteries, and run around the datacentre like a mad man and they never fall out.
Also, the sound quality is EXCELLENT and I can barely hear anything outside.
Only downside is that I like to hear what's going on outside of my earbuds when talking on the phone. So, they're great for music and quick phone calls, but for longer calls I don't care for them.

Thanks to each of you for your suggestions so far; looking forward to any other suggestions folks might have.
The one suggestion that comes somewhat close is the Monster iSport Immersion because it comes close to clipping on the ear which, along with the Mic, is the key feature for me because having tried every modification of in-ear/ear bud style- they all fall out whereas the ear clip prevents that.
Has anyone tried:
Powerbeats by Dre Sport?
or
The Sprint Stereo Headset

Hi all,
I've had these headphones since January (2012). I can vouch how durable they are and they do sound AMAZING. I'd always hated the in-ear phones because they'd always fall out. The little in-ear clip on these does a good job of staying put, once you fit yourself with the properly sized attachments (included).
The iSport Immersions are awesome, but know this...the only part that works with Android devices is the pause/play button. Track skipping does NOT work. When running or working out, I tend to not mess with the music very much, so for me it's not very important.
Monster does make a iSport LIVESTRONG (yellow) with Universal control. Basically the same as the Immersion, but different control. I'd recommend these over the Immersion for Android users.
Cheers!

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a set of body glove in ear buds. They come with over ear clips. I work on an oil rig and they stay put no matter what. Plus they are only 20 bucks and sound 20 times better than the skull candy ear buds I have. Almost as good as my Sure ear buds. Built in mic too

Headphones adapter

Does anybody know a headphone adapter to use ordinary headphones with the Galaxy Note? I mean those adapters with a built in mic which make it possible to use standard headphones without having to pull out your headphones every time you receive a phone call. It's kind of strange, I looked almost everywhere but could not find one that works. I even bought one called AARM040BBE but it's either defective or not compatible since I have to constantly push the button to hear the music clearly.
If someone knows a working adapter I would be really grateful if he/ she could direct me to a store where I can buy it.
Just curious but what about the stock headphones that the galaxy note comes with? That should work out pretty well both for handling calls and your music riight?

i actually like the stock headphones quite a bit =) for music and calls!!
I don't like the stock headphones. First they have almost no bass. Their sound quality is absolutely no match for decent headphones. What's more they are white. Come on a black phone with white headphones, am I an Iphone user? I'll never understand why the phone does not come with such an adapter. Even my last phone (SE Xperia X1) did.

It's strange that yours has almost no bass, I thought the bass was quite alright on my unit. It could be that you have got the wrong sized silicon earbuds on, or maybe you've not pushed the earphones deep enough. It has to 'plug' your hearing for you to get decent sound.
For other headphones with mic to work, you may need one of these adaptors : meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm
I got an official samsung one for my galaxy S that appears to work fine on my new Note.
I actually use mine in a different use case to you.
I have it fixed to my dashboard with a 3.5mm jack connecting it to my car stereo as a line in. It is essentially then a wired car kit that interrupts my mp3 listening when I get a call.

here is the trick on how to fix the ****ty bass. i went out and bought a fake copy beats tours headphones just for the earbud's part then i put them on my samsung stock headphones that i got from my n7000 and BAMB.. TONS of BASS. the quality of the earbud piece i agree are very ****ty that is because they are extremely thin. but with this little trick they sound amazing now.. let me show you what i did. from the picture you can see i have two original pairs of headphones for my galaxy note.. the white tips are the bad quality earbud parts. and the black tips are the ones that i took from my ****ty copy beats that i didn't care about to begin with. (i live in china so i can get all this stuff cheap.) (another pair of original samsung n7000 headphones only cost around 4 usd here.

i am thinkign bluetooth, but then more batteries...but would be nice no having sooo many wires.
The trouble is, any adapter and im going to be swamped with meteres of cable!
or a BT headset..hm :\ so expensive..
or a jays headset or something similar, with built in mic,
my main beef with the stock is the mic is so terrible.

I ordered an adapter I found on Amazon. I'll let you know whether it works or not.
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
It has arrived and it works. What you need is this http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002HE5MDW/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 together with this http://www.amazon.de/Headset-Adapte...inbelegung/dp/B006SECMM6/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_img_b. Given the fact that a second adapter is needed to revert the pin assignment it is possible that any adapter intended for the iphone works. If not the second adapter does the trick like in my case.

Bluetooth Earphones for Motorcycle?

I'm looking for some earphones to use on my s3 which I can use with my phone to listen to music/gps whilst I'm using my bike. So I need the earphones to be flat so they fit in my helmet comfortably. They also need a decent battery life and ideally can be charged from a 12v cigarette lighter plug.
Can anyone make any recommendations? I'm looking for good quality but cheap. Thanks anyone that can help at all!

I ride snowmobile/motorcycle as well and the best solution I've found so far for me is
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-accessories/lg-HBS700-tone
they can be had for a bit cheaper.
Battery life has been great for me on them.... I don't think I've ever killed them, not even in the cold.
and unlike most things now days..these things literally have some great standby time...sometimes I use them, come home, dont use em for weeks (month) and still get a ton of time out of them
I was hugely skeptical since I didn't like LG But i've been rocking a pair for over a year now and they haven't died yet.
the only complain I have on them is that the range isn't great (but for our application here) it works fine.
my second vote would be these..... http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...productId=8198552921666198163&tab=featuresTab
most people love em (but my gf's pair died within a couple weeks) and they are hard to read in the Sun
I have been extremely curious about these for myself though... http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...productId=8198552921666417432&tab=featuresTab
oh and atleast for the first two...they can be charged via micro usb
may be worth looking into....

I have some jaybird bluetooth headphones but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't fit under your helmet. they're brilliant but 100 quid!
I would suggest something like the Nokia bluetooth clip that I also have. looks a bit like the first generation ipod shuffle. it has all the functions you need and also you can plug your own headphones into it. it just clips on to your clothes. I found it to be very good and less than £20. I think it is called bh 204 although I'm sure there's an updated version now.
I'm looking for something more like these style earphones

I need something flat as the ones Alan stated, I've tried before, but they are painful after a while due to pushing on my ear.
I use a jawbone era. it's big but you can make it fit or cut a small hole in your helmet to make it fit. sound is okay, and the other people i have talked to have said I sound clear as a bell while going down the highway. it's truely an amazing little device.
just got a set of G9's to replace my G4.

My wife and I use the Sena SMH10 on both our helmets. It is a great product. We can talk to each other when we are riding together and when I'm riding solo, I connect my cell phone (SGS1 - White SGS3 is on order! :victory to it and stream music. You can even connect devices that don't have bluetooth via the 3.5mm headphone connector. Lastly, it gives you full control over the phone function too allowing you to place and receive calls while riding all hands free (other than pushing the button on the side once to connect to the incoming call or begin voice activation).
Yes, you will have to have a bulky piece of hardware attached to the side of the helmet, but the speakers are Velcro(ed) under the padding and you would never know they are there.
Good luck on finding something that works, hope you find something that meets your needs!
I always use to just wedge my Evo 4g in my helmet on speaker phone lol... Use to text and ride too .... But thats a diff story... Good luck on finding what your looking for...

I use the cardo system "Scala Rider G4"
http://www.cardosystems.com/scala-rider/scala-rider-g4
I use Cellularline Interphone F4. Works fine with SGS and SGSIII.
I use the Scala Rider G4 too. Works like a champ.
I use a chatterbox with bluetooth capabilities and it gets loud enough to hear music fine on the freeway with a loud two brother exhaust.....

Suggestions on Bluetooth stereo headset

So I am looking for people who have real world experience with their Bluetooth headsets to help me out.
I am quite picky and finicky when it comes to my earpiece preferences.
Firstly I HATE this style of earpiece:

I have tried COUNTLESS tips, they simply do not work with my ear. they fall out and are uncomfortable.
These wired Bose headphones with the "winglet" and the soft "canal" thing are by far the most comfortable earpieces I have ever worn.
I bought them about a year ago wore them straight for about a month. I couldn't live with the "made for iphone" in line remote. So i returned them.
I would likely be interested in custom fit molding, if available.
Audio quality is also important to me, the bose i tried sounded great, but I have heard better. If I can achieve almost bose quality in a bluetooth package I would be very happy.
Volume is not so much a concern with me, that being said I do not want to strain to hear a soft spoken person on the other end of line.
I would prefer controls on the earpiece itself as opposed to the in-line behind the neck controls.
I do not mind the over the ear style in fact these were my go to headphones in high school
Battery life is not that big of an issue for me (obviously the longer lasting the better though XD) as long as they last 4+ hours I should manage just fine.
I am expecting some standard features as well. pause playback(where available) when answering call, relatively good noise cancellation, sweat resistant, etc.
All in all I am willing to spend $200-$300 for the perfect headset for me.
I appreciate any good reviews and suggestions,
thanks,
~thatsnailguy
@thatsnailguy: have you tried Comply Foam Tips? I reviewed it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314567 Also, a lot of vendors starting to implement removable stabilizer wing tips (like BlueBudsX : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234057 , although I prefer BackBeatGo 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433088).
@vectron: Those seem very similar, so out of those two I would have to go with whichever one seemed to have the best audio quality. What is your opinion. BTW those reviews were really helpful.
The bluebuds look nice and with 8 hours battery life it sounds great.
Just one thing I cant get over, if I do decide to go with one of these I will have to try the Comply Foam tips, but I am very skeptical. I dont think that my ear canal is shaped to hold the buds up. Have you ever seen tips that are hollow and soft like the bose tips, not designed to be structurally sound but just to funnel the sound into the ear?

Oh, if you want more reviews, check out everything I have reviewed on XDA so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333 - scroll down, a ton of stuff
Regarding BluebudsX vs Plantronics BBG2 comparison, scroll down my BBG2 review to the 2nd post where I made a more detailed comparison including similar Anker headphones as well (but those are very uncomfortable even for my big ear canals lol!!!). BBG2 has fantastic audio sound for wireless headphones, and their case has a built in battery charger so after you use it - store them back int he case where they will get charged up, additional 10hr of playback, including a rapid charge mode; plus they are cheaper. It's tricky with wireless headphones because sound will get compressed through bt protocol. New BT4.0 standard with apt-x technology helps to preserve the sound quality, but not in all the cases. Some vendors come up with their own "decompression" algorithm. I enjoyed quality of Plantronics better. But sound quality is always a matter of personal taste So I always recommend people to buy from Amazon for hassle free return if it doesn't meet your expectations.
Another thing to keep in mind, on the last page of BlueBudsX review, people started to post about Decibullz custom eartips: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234057&page=6 - maybe that will be a solution for you, to custom mold your own eartip, and its not that expensive either.

Definitely would buy again! It's like having Shuffle (small, easy to use, great audio quality, changeable headphones, and bonus - mic for calls) and music list with equalizer at once!
I bike, ski, workout and going to boring meetings with them. I bet it's difficult to use shb60 and helmet together
The SBH60 finally arrived today after some delays with the shipping process.
The unit is nice and light and the sound quality is very good. Pairing with NFC is super easy.
Call quality is good considering the mic placement.
Reported battery life is great (13 hours).
I'll have to use the pair for a couple of days before I can really come to a conclusion but so far I'm happy with my purchase
Hi,
I got this headset with my contract here in SA, its really decent plays nice and clear with a good amount of base. The quality is good too feels well built but nice and light.
What I was really surprised about was the battery, I do not find myself charging it often and the range is superb! Can walk outside the house and can still connect to the phone inside without effort.
All in all, a really great headset as a just above entry and just below premium. I got all rounder I would say... very pleased with it :good:

Ah, I didn't know they started supplying these headsets in SA now. I imported both my Z3c and headset.
I agree with all your comments. Definitely good value for money.
A couple of days later and I can't say that I have any complaints. I'm really happy with my first attempt at cutting the cord
Battery life is excellent. Extremely comfortable for an on the ear design. Sound is great and headset works as it should.
Does everything I need at a reasonable price.

Yeah we not that far behind in tech here in SA, only issue is we get the main goods, accessories are very hard to get hold of locally if it's new stuff.
I cannot find local stores stocking the magnetic chargers and docks, and shipping costs to SA isn't great you end up paying double the cost for the goods.
O well, atleast I have the handset and headgear

I couldn't find any local (SA) stock of the SBH60 when I ordered.
The phone itself I got from Orange because the local prices are a bit excessive (I buy cash, not contract).
I was lucky enough to get a DK31 dock from a friend that works for Vodacom. Although the dock works with the Z3c, I opted for removing the cable instead.
The magnetic cable is a nice to have. The handset and headgear are the more important bits if you ask me
Battery Life Indicator
I picked up this set 2 about 2 months ago and have no complaints thus far. I noticed a nice feature that only seems to work with this particular set though; the battery life indicator.
I also have a pair of MDR-XB950BTs as well that I've been doubling as ear muffs for the cold It seems the 950s cannot utilize that same feature? Anyone know if this may be a limitation to a specific bluetooth profile?
I am using a stock D6616 (T-Mobile Z3), and don't believe it is necessarily a phone feature, but more so something supported by the headset..
Cheers!
I went with SBH-80 because I prefer the in-ear type. With Apt-X support, it sounds stellar!
