[APP] Standby Touch - simple app for a simple job - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Today I got a little bit bored and decide to make this simple app. As the name says, it allows to put the phone in Standby (Lock) with the touch of app's icon. I know that there are many many apps that do this, but maybe in the future I could add other options to it. So far it seems to work fine, I tested it with Jellbro latest nightly and works like a charm. Maybe I am too lazy, but because my phone is on the desk most of the day, I find it not very convenient to press the Power button...

Changelog for version 1.4:
1.4
- added Tasks feature
- on some ROM versions the screen my try to turn itself on again after lock, the app will double check and try to lock it again. Please provide feedback if it still does not work.
- minor graphic tweaks
You can find it on Google Play at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alinberce.standbytouch
Feel free to give me suggestions . Also a high rating on Google Play would help. Thanks.

App looks fine and the design is not too bad, however I do not see a point in such Apps, since a simple press on the power button does the same. It is even faster, since one of my fingers is usually very close to it anyway.
But as I said, nice work.

Thanks for this! Just got a metal bumper and its annoying to press the power button.
This works great, nice icon !
Edit: don't know why but sometimes the screen wakes up Again right after sleeping. I can't seem to reproduce the problem, seems random.

Wow that does look pretty nice.Thanks.

Quite good idea
any I like your design and interface. it's nice!

Thank you all for your kind words.
@FC1032: I never had my screen turning on after lock, but I did with other apps. I am using a clean install with no apps installed (except keyboard app). Maybe there could be a conflict with other app ? I will restore a bunch of the apps I use and see if I can manage to reproduce this. The app code is fairly simple, just access basic android functions and close itself on clock. Even the Settings page is closed when you leave it
I was thinking of adding some extra features on shutdown... what would you like to do extra, when you send your phone to standby ? How about this: if I set some interval, for instance 10 pm-8am, add some functions like: switch to silent, disable data... etc.
PS: please don't be shy, spread some 5 stars in Google Play, it will help the app to get more users. Thank you all again.

Nope, stock.
I think I'll see if another application I recently installed. Thanks for the help guys

Just downloaded the app. Seems to work fine. One thing that will make it more professional is if you proof read your description on the Google Play page.
For example:
Responsibility, not Responsability
Installation, not Instalation
And the word nasTy, unless that T is supposed to be there.
These are nit picky things, but it makes the app and developer look more polished
Good luck!

Interesting request... I see one way of doing this: there is no way I could catch a double/triple touch on the app's icon, as the icon is in a Launcher app. However I could add in Settings an option with Re-Touch for Shutdown popup. Basically the App would start with a black screen, waiting for 1 seconds for another touch, if no touch it goes to standby, if touch it shows the popup. The only downside would be the shutdown command can only be run on a Rooted device (not really a problem for Nexus ).
Are there other users who would find this feature useful ?
@Cyberdan3: thank you for your corrections. Now it's fixed.
PS: thank you all for your ratings in Google Play... the app is starting to get some stars

@FC1032 do you still have screen wake-ups ? I am using the app since release and not even once the screen opened after lock.

Thanks for confirming it.

Nice, this along; with "PGM slide2wake" eliminates most power-button presses.

Unfortunately it seems that depending on ROM version (I've tested quite a few), sometimes there is a issue with screen starting again after lock. There are two ways of making things, one simpler and one more complex. I will go with the simpler one first and see feedback. I am preparing a new version which will add a really neat feature... but because I want to keep the design path of the settings page, also on the new feature, I will need to spend some time in the drawing app

Sneak preview of the new version... it just entered testing phase

Ok guys, new version is on Google Play. I did not have enough time to make extensive testing so this may have some bugs on the tasks feature. The Task feature allows you to define intervals in which the Sound/Data/Wifi are On or Off. The app, when you perform a lock will check and update the device of the status as set in Tasks. In order to avoid repetitive operations and prevent battery usage, the check is made only ONCE per interval. So for example if you set the phone to be silent from 22 - 07 and you lock your phone at 22:15, if you reopen and use it, when you lock it again, the app will only make simple lock without all the checks again. If some of you prefer it otherwise, please let me know so I could add an extra setting for it.
As I said earlier, there are some ROM versions where the screen comes On again after lock. The only way I found to handle this is to relock the device after half of second again. So you may notice a slight screen on, but most of the time it will not.
Please let me know if you find any bugs. Thanks.

Wake phone up with trackpad?

I think the G2 guys could have taken this one cue from the iPhone and other phones. I'm really hoping this is something we can add after root is available.
Not a big fan of having to use the power button.
I have been using widget locker app and it allows to be waken from by trackpad.

ya on my n1 it was so much more convenient to just press the trackball to wake ugh patience i guess...

Yea it is kind of irritating having to press power to wake all the time

No legendary is right. Widget locker fixes this well enough.
Just disable the notification icon and in advanced settings check "wake up with any button press".
As far as I can tell the only draw back is having to slide the bar to unlock and then having to enter ur unlock pattern if u have one.

I'm glad you found your answer on your own. I really do like that app and when it worked it was a double bonus. Had it installed on my nexus one. Can't wait for ROMS to take advantage of it soon

I used it on my Vibrant. It was kind of buggy at times. Though, I'm not sure if that was the app, or the phone.
No its the app. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't...
Another trick
If you are holding the phone in your left hand (as I mostly do), use the trick that someone posted in another thread-- Just snap the keyboard open about 1/4 of the way. It will wake and unlock in one super-quick step. It can be done in the right hand, too, just not quite as easily.

You really have to tweak settings to make it reliable... took me a bit. Hiding the notification makes it less reliable by their own admission. I have it working fine now though.

I'm also using the rotary slider instead of the standard one...
so now I press the trackpad to wake up... slide to unlick, and then use unlock pattern to get to home screen. I still prefer that to having to press the top power button.

awesome - thanks for this, i'll be giving it a whirl!
[EDIT] i just tried it out, tried many different settings (including those suggested) and couldn't get it to work more than a few times. alas, that's more frustrating than helpful, so til it's fixed i've uninstalled. thanks for trying to help out though - i really do want trackpad wake.
^ ditto. It was reliable for a while then became sporadic
This should be an app fixable thing as opposed to needing root though. I will wait I suppose.
I really want this feature too, but I don't want to have the phone wake when pressing the vol/camera keys. Is there somewhere we can request this in the next software update from T-mobile / HTC? I assume this is not remediable without rooting otherwise. I'd prefer not to root my phone just for this one feature.
i haven't tweaked any settings and my trackpad now wakes the phone up every time. I say now, as it didn't do it consistently until i un-installed a live wall paper i had (Thunderstorms) - a couple of other issues vaporized when i un-installed that app
neat wallpaper though - the developer is supposed to be working out the bugs for use on the G2

Hahhaha! Don't ask tmobile or htc for help. They'll just lock it down more. I have a headache from trying to get root access working. This nand lock really sucks! Sorry a bit off topic, I guess.
So now that we've got full root, is there a quick, simple and reliable way to wake the phone by pressing the trackpad button (i.e. wake to the unlock screen, not fully unlock).
[Edit: Found it, works perfectly on my Desire-Z, needs root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830806]

If you dont like stock lock screen....Ripple it.....

Just installed 'Ripple lock' from markey(free). I know there is widgetlocker, and some/a lot of people prefer it. This is just another choice.
Gives a honeycombish lock screen, with choice of background/pic from your gallery.

If you use AdFree, you don't see them.

b) After making a call, I need to unlock ripple and then end the call.

Just doesnt seem to be a 100% replacement yet. For some reason I don't get on with widget locker either.
I hope someday some devs here will port the Sensation lockscreen with its weather animation, I don't think it's very difficult, weather can be linked to stock weather instead of Rosie.
Widgetlocker is good but doesn't speed up the phone waking, I think we will have to wait for CM7 or MIUI

[APP] Barometric - Barometer app and widget for Galaxy Nexus

A good while ago, when I got my Xoom I almost finished a barometer app. Unfortunately the project was put away, but inspired by korr92's post today I decided to do some work on the app.
It is in early alpha, and there are still some bugs to iron out (see post below). But, I need feedback, so feel free to try it out.
Beware that I'm planning to release this as a paid app on the Market when (err...if) I finish it. But, it will stay free for a while, and I will post well before an eventual release so that you can download the app for free.
The regular app will update the pressure almost instantly, while the widget will update when the devices wakes up, or every 10 minutes if the device stays awake .

Application is attached to this post, and can also be downloaded from here.
Changelog:
2012-01-22:
-Widgets are now available in both 2x2 and 3x3 sizes.
2012-01-17:
-Enabled hardware acceleration and made improvements to the application so that hardware acceleration works as it should
-Reduced size of images used. Smaller APK.
2012-01-16:
-Improved graphics both in application and widget. The barometer now contains text ("Stormy", "Rain", "Change", "Fair" and "Very dry") describing the weather associated with the current pressure.
-Reduced size of APK
-Main application now has a "historic dial", which can mark a previous pressure value. To set it just tap the barometer, and it will be set to the current value. It will be stored until you tap the barometer again.
-Widget will now update every 30 second when the device is awake. It will not update when the device is asleep, unless other applications update. If this happens the barometer widget will also be updated.
Known bugs:
-Sometimes the pressure will be show as zero (the dial points straight up). This is some minor bug that I have yet to track down, where the service that updates the pressure is getting killed before the pressure is received.
Update: I think I have solved this now.
Planned features:
-Set the altitude, as this influences the pressure
-Mark in the barometer the corresponding weather for pressure values (e.g. illustration of a sun when the pressure is high) (DONE)
-More widget sizes (DONE)
-Graphing feature
-Trend
-Pressure reading in text
-Whatever you may suggest

Did you experience the bug I listed in the second post? It seems like it is rather inconsistent, and a little harder to track down than I thought.
I will try to get some work done on the app tonight, hopefully accompanied by the upload of a new build.
Theres no Widget
That's strange. I did a clean install on my Xoom, and the widget is there. It also works in the phone and the emulator(s). Is the widget missing for anyone else?
Hope you iron out this, looks like it could be amazing.
Swyped from my tuna surprise with extra back bacon.
Thanks nitrox1!

I'm pretty sure, you must disable "force GPU-Rendering" in your dev-settings like in the other Barometer-App, too
Hardware acceleration is a good thing, so I have now explicitly enabled hardware acceleration, and made the necessary adjustments to the app so that it works with hardware acceleration. In other words, a new build is out.
Regarding failed downloads: I suspect that the downloads from XDA are not always stable. Have uploaded the build to my Dropbox account as well. Download link can be found in the first post.
Now, off to my day job. Next feature coming up is input of your altitude, so that the barometer is calibrated.
Gonna try it. Will report back later this day!

[APP] Standby Touch - simple app for a simple job

Warning! This has been developed and tested on Galaxy Nexus. It should work fine on SIII, but have a backup, just in case something goes wrong (can't imagine what)
Today I got a little bit bored and decide to make this simple app.

Thanks.
I am using the app and haven't got any "wake screen" events. So hopefully works as expected.
I was thinking of a feature:
1. set an interval in seconds, let's say 60
2. set in the app, Enable touch screen to wake
3. in you press the screen on this interval, the phone awakes.
This of course with the cost of battery life....
What do you say, is is useful or not ?
works but not exactly like power button .
screen flashes white for a couple ms
but like the other functions
(just wondering whether you make a setting so you can choose whether or not to put device into deep sleep ) prob stupid function coz u always want ur device to go into deep sleep when screen off
thanks

No flashes for me, screen goes immediately off when i press icon, nice Ui look good also. I made swipe gesture to nova launcher, when i swipe up with 2 fingers, screen goes off.
Thanks.
on uninstalling my phone does not autolock anymore, neither does the screen time out, tried on ics, not happy with that, also with the software it would lock the phone on toggling but however it would not turn the screen off, not pretty happy.
@cletusarrarr I am sorry but I can't understand what you said. The app has nothing to do with screen time out or any other system settings.
May I ask what you use for the circle selector ?
Looks great
Thanks @Tolriq... the circle ideas came to me sudden and I've made it from scratch. There is no control I've used. Basically there are 2 custom views, a smaller one with the hour circle and a bigger one with the minutes circles, with some touch and rotation events. Glad you like it, I haven't seen anything like it in any other app. Somehow I think that there are still tweaks to be made, maybe, sometimes it's easy to go wrong by pressing unintentionally on the other one.
Thx! 5 star given!
But still sometimes the screen come back briefly b4 it locks again. I read comments in screen off fx that it doesn't hv this problem on s3. Maybe u can check it out if u hv time. Meanwhile I really enjoy ur work coz the design of the icon is so cool!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I have encountered this screen shown in some ROMs, in another it didn't appear (this on my Galaxy Nexus). The app only accesses a standard android function to lock the screen, without any bells and whistles. I could not find why it was happening like that, so I just try to make a relock after half of a second (just in case the screen turns on).
Thank you very much for your kind workds.
It's perfect. Love the simplicity of the icon.

Thanks a lot. If you guys have any ideas for features, please let me know.
I've just released a new version in the market. Unfortunatelly it does not have new features as I've been really busy in the last few months but includes two important things:
- there is no more white screen + app's icon when pressing the app's icon, just before the screen shuts down
- I added compatibility with JB 4.2

I have also released a refreshed version of my babies app, I'd love to hear some feedback from those of you who have small babies (1 to 3 years old):

Hi guys,
I have released a new version of the app. I have removed the Tasks feature as it wasn't too helpful and added Sleep Mode. So basically, the Sleep Mode shows for a brief moment (the time you set in Settings) 2 icons which allows you to switch off Sound/Wi-Fi/Data.
Here is how it works:
1. Go to Settings -> Zzzzzz Mode -> Set the interval in hours when you want the icons to be displayed. Set the milliseconds to be displayed and check the toggles you want to disable
2. Next time you press the StandBy icon you will see 2 icons on the screen. The moon icon puts the phone to standby and toggles off the checked things from settings. The sun icon, simply turns them on again and closes, without going into standby.
Any feedback is gladly received.

Launch Now is a Google Now shortcut replacement app which can be launched in the same way as the Google Now app. By swiping upwards from the home button you can launch the app and it will allow you to launch any app that you like. When launched the app prompts the user with a dialog containing customizable apps which can be launched. A possible use case scenario would be if you use Twitter alot you can put your favourite Twitter app in one of the slots and access it at any time by simply swiping up from the home button or the lockscreen. The app is very fast and fluid and is in active development so more is to come soon. I've attached a free test version with 2 app slots that you guys can try out. Enjoy!
Here's the play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simon.LaunchNow
The youtube video shows the functionality pretty good:

Just so you know; you can still access Google Now with this app installed, just add it as one of the launch options.
If you have any questions or requests whatsoever I'll be sure to answer them here

I dont think you can advertise paid apps on XDA. I think you have to link to the free version. Not sure though

That's correct. Read the rules before posting, OP, specifically rule 11 in this case.
Also, I wouldn't consider this a Google Now replacement, it's more of an app launcher. Google Now does so much more than just launch apps, or provide shortcuts to apps.
Anyway, can't call it a Google Now replacement, maybe a Google Now shortcut replacement. To be considered a Google Now replacement it needs to be some kind of voice search service.
Anyway, cool idea but I don't think I would pay for this app, specially running a custom ROM such as AOKP which allows users to add shortcuts to the navbar ring, so you can have Google Now and any other app you need/want to on that ring.
I'm working on a free version right now so you guys can test the app out. Shortcut replacement is a really good idea, I'll make sure to use it.

What sort of funcionality do you think would make you (and other people too of course) buy it? Do you think perhaps toggles would be a god idea?
I downloaded and testing right now. Thank you.

Really like this app but are you planning to make the transition from the Launch Now menu to the chosen app smoother? Is it possible to incorporate the transition animation from jb into this? It'd b great to see the selected app come flying in from the top of the screen.
Also, the icon could use some work; it's hard to see it against white backgrounds.

I'll most definitevely try and make a JB animation, I've done it before in my other app so it shouldn't be all that hard. You're right about the icon, I'll make some changes later.
Thanks for the feedback!
EDIT: Animation added and some grapical bugs fixed, update has been released.

In my opinion, it's missing just the option to add just one app, like Swipe Launcher offers. Other than that it's faster than the other (2) alternatives available.

Not quite the animation I expected but cool nonetheless and also real smooth. It adds some variety into the mix and that's always a good thing.
All that's left is the icon. Looking forward to what you come up with.

Performence has been a huge focus during development. I'll create a option to just launch one app, look for it in the next update.
I like, keep going mate

I tried the icon on a white wallpaper and it didn't look to bad at all. The icon you liked isn't avavible in 512x512 which is a requirement for app icons so I can't use that. I added a arrow to the existing icon and it looked pretty good, it'll be in the next version. For now I'm sticking to the animation, it's pretty cool i think.
Like I wrote in my review on the Store: It's fast
Though I purchased all the other alternatives available, I found this to be the fastest. Thanks for the option to launch just one app. Please don't sacrifice the speed in favor of more options.
Keeping my eye on this...

Are you ever going to update the paid version of the app on the Play Store? You do realize version 0.4 is not working, right?
You can't add apps and it FCs all the time. Not to mention the weird code in the menu.
