Hi, just got my Note 10.1 LTE. Should we really use a screen guard?? by the way I hate those.. I never used a screen protector in my Galaxy S - its been 3years without any scratch.
My note 10.1 came with a free screen guard (SuperGuard - Clear for Note 10.1 2014) from my vendor. And I checked documentation for the devce.. didn't find Gorilla Glass mentioned anywhere.. so the question is - should we really use a screen protector for Note 10.1 2014?
Comments and your experience please..
Screen protectors required?
Hi Guys,
Please help with your experience.. do we really need to use the so called 'screen guards' / screen protector film?

Quick help:
Don't bother.
You will be fine without a screen guard.

This was my answer to a similar question on another thread....hope it helps....
My brother has never used any screen protectors on his devices and they all have pristine screens, I on the other hand have a few scratches on my S3 but that's only because I work in an Engineering environment where there are all sorts of materials flying about plus I no longer care tbh and use the phone even with dirty hands.
To be honest considering how much I use my phone its actually done pretty well, I have a 1cm long deep scratch and about 4 really light scratches that are barely noticeable and I've had the phone since release.
If your going to just use it in the house I would say you don't need one but you never know.
P.S. I don't think that really answers your question but still atleast you have something to think about haha

I've seen reviews and spec lists for the 2014 Note around the web that specify that it has Gorilla Glass 3. The Samsung website does not mention the glass at all, but that does not mean it doesn't have it.
I have an HP Touchpad which has Gorilla Glass 1. It never saw a screen protector and it doesn't have a scratch on it.
I do not intend to put a screen protector on my Note.
It has now seen three cases already though. So far I like the Poetic slimline best.

the old 6 of one half a dozen of the other
i agree about the strengths of modern day screens
gorilla glass or not
but i find without a screen the fingerprints are harder to clean as i use mine for drawing etc
i had my P600 with a screen and without a screen and then i put a screen back on
i use Benks screens (anti fingerprints - and it really makes a difference)...... love em.......
if you put on a cheap screen then you wont know what i am talking about
i can understand if people dont use em.....
cheers all and love my P600

There was a long thread on this on AndroidCentral. One person was told by Samsung Technical Support that it had Gorilla Glass 3, and another was told it has a Samsung plated glass that is just as good.
I guess either way it's pretty tough glass. I saw a test on Gorilla Glass 2, it's a lot tougher than any tablet or phone needs.
I am using the xtreme guard screen protector and quite happy with it. I have dropped my tablet couple of times and I am glad I had the screen protector

Screen protectors don't prevent a screen from cracking, they only prevent the screen from scratches.
Never had one on a phone/tablet...and never needed one. They make the screen look crap IMO (unless you're extremely good and make sure there are no air bubbles). But then I still hate them! If it was that vital to have one, Samsung would include one by default.

Not necessarily true. Zagg xtreme shields specifically state that they add impact resistance as do just like glass screen protectors. Tempered glass protectors also do A LOT to increase the chance of your devices screen surviving a fall. Hope this was helpful.

I'm not trying to start an arguement here lol but I honestly dont see how a screen protector can prevent a screen from cracking, what it will do is keep the glass in place when it does crack which is a good thing in such an incident.
I understand however anyone who has used a tempered glass protector will swear by their ability to keep a screen from cracking. I theory they absorb the impact and crack then selves rather than letting your screen crack. Personally they have saved my own devices over a half dozen times. So in practice if certainly seems to work. Some such as MIME Ghost Glass actually are harder and more scratch resistant than Gorilla glass 3 and many believe feel better than their stock screens. While this is all anecdotal and opinion you will find a huge number of people on these forums staunchly defending them. That being said, I have yet to put any screen protector on my Note 2014 as always hope this was helpful.

Yea or Nay?
I saw a Zagg at Best Buy for $29. Worth it? I know i do not want to scratch the screen.
I've been going back & forth whether or not I should get one as well. I tend to see more negative reviews than positive ones for the Zagg. I won't be as rough with it like I am with my cell phone. I'm wondering if I will need a protector at all.
I got an InvisibleShield and I think it's worth it. It's just comforting to know that I can do whatever I want to the screen, and there won't be any scratches on it.
I have one on my captivate, my laptop and have ordered one for my tab. I will say they are definitely not for everyone. So heres how I would describe it:
-100% will protect your screen from scratches (micro and major). Even gorilla glass will scratch.
- Feels like a orange peel or rubber/plastic on the screen. I love it, some ppl really hate it.
- After cleaning it, you might notice your finger catching a bit on swipes and drags. Its minor but some people again like that super slick glass feel for a touch screen and thats understandable.
- Might have some small bubbles after applying. They WILL go away over time, I promise.
I just picked up a tab yesterday and when I saw the price for the Zaggs, I said forgettaboutit!
I have had them on my phones for years, deff not putting one on the Tablet. It's not carried around in your pocket. It has scratch resistant glass so any normal day to day stuff shouldn't scratch it.
Those wet application orange peel ones all suck.
Static screen protectors are much easier to try and remove if you dont like them.
Not sure if the GT has gorilla glass but my Evo does and i have dropped it atleast 6x i the year i have owned it. All 4 corners got marks and i even managed to drop it face down in a compacted gravel parking lot. It slid after it landed face down! Still not one scratch when im sure normal glass would have spider webbed. So if its gorilla glass dont need a screen protector baby!
On my phone? Absolutely. On the Tab? I don't think it's necessary. I've had my ipad since it launched without a screen protector, and don't have a single scratch, because when I'm not using it, it's in a case

Nay for the tab. It's going to spend most of its time in my house on the coffee table. Gorilla Glass has me covered, in my opinion.

The IO edition uses a different display than the retail. So it is possible the glass is different as well.

I hate the fingerprint smudges as well. I saw a post a while back. Someone recommended to use a special solution on the screen that will help. Can't find the post unfortunately.

I'm not a big fan of the smudges either but you only notice them when the display is off or you're viewing the screen from a wide angle. When I'm using it right in front of me, I can't even see them and I know it has a lot of smudges on it.
Like others said, it's not my phone so it won't be directly exposed to keys or other things that may scratch it. I can't wait for my Samsung book case to arrive to I feel better about it sitting out when I'm not using it.

Boxwave Cleartouch Anti-Glare is really good at resisting fingerprints, if you don't mind a matte screen (I prefer a matte anti-glare on all my mobile devices)
Wasn't available yet, last time I checked, for the GTAB 10.1 but I'm sure it will be out shortly. Have one on my XOOM and my GTAB 7.
Are there any pics or videos of this on the web? I've never used anti glare screens I feel like its going to drop the screen quality.

yeah i have a "anti smudge" screen protector, but it has the rainbow effect sometimes, and it reduces the nice glossy appearance of my phone...and I'm one of those people who can't stand putting anything on my phone haha. any suggestions for good quality screen protectors that aren't too expensive?

While it may not be gorilla glass, it's still pretty resillient. As far as screen protectors go, if you usually keep your phone near keys, coins, etc then yes buy one. If not then you should be ok. I used to use screen protectors on all my devices but I stopped believing in them because I usually take good care of my devices either eay and the screen protectors took away the beauty from the device.
It really is just a matter of personal opinion.

I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

Hi,
I am looking for a screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus that feels as near as possible to glass? I like the glassy feeling while using the device and I would hate to have something rubbery instead. I understand the value of a screen protector and I am looking for something that feels the least like rubber i.e. more like glass and less like rubber.
Thank you,

I ordered one, they still haven't shipped yet. Just answering the OP's question, I think glass is what would "feel as near as possible to glass"
I wonder how high over the bezel this will go?
I like this idea, but the LCD is already low enough in the glass, this is just creating more of a gap.
I am really interested in a review though.

Thanks Alex1123 Yes, I am looking for a "tempered glass" screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus. Do you have any clue who sells them.
I went to the SGP website and they clearly have a Tempered Glass screen protector for the IPhone 4 e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/ap...tor-glas-t-premium-tempered-glass-series.html
On the other hand they do not seem to have this for the Galaxy Nexus e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/google.html this is their list. They have other screen protectors - but not the tempered glass version which I want.
Do you know of any other brands that sell tempered glass screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus Phone?

Dear Big Cam
While we are waiting for EvilOlivE to receive his screen protector I wanted to make two points:
First, the link posted above http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/samsung/fantom mentions that the screen protector has a thickness of 0.4 mm. I am not experienced with smart phones, so do you think this would still cause a problem.
Second, the article at http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/1...ectors-for-the-galaxy-nexus-up-for-pre-order/ mentions that you should use coupon code NEXUSFTW to get $5 off. This is just in case someone else is ordering.

Ive been using screen protector since i got my nexus, early this year. but after seeing my friend who has a HTC Sensation, with no screen protection for over a year, and his screen is really scratch less, made me rip off the protector and just enjoy my device ! now myself im advertising for everyone to remove their screen protectors , by showing all my friends around with a live example how good the screens are already by taking car key and sliding it over my screen multiple times and no scratches are left on the screen.

I wouldnt have done that if I were you. Our phone's screens are strong, but not as strong as gorilla glass. I dropped my nexus 4 days after I got it with no case and screen protector. They were still getting shipped from online. It dropped from average chair height and fell out of my lose pockets from my basketball shorts. No damage or anything on the phone except a 4 very little dings and a scratch near the front camera. I was lucky it wasnt on the camera or on the screen. It was on the black border. I'd say our screens are 3/4 or 2/3 as stong as the average phone with gorilla glass.
Well....just be careful wut ever u do Cuz.....a co worker from A friend of mine bought his nexus online had it for a week.....dropped it....a thin ....long crack resembling a backwards "c" formed on his screen......he paid 500-ish.....total for his phone....I paid him 200.....everything..phone..box ..cables....brand new everything...just the crack on the screen....be care full...might be scratch resistant....but not too sure Bout shocks....

Wow, $30 for screen protector! One would almost want a screen protector for this screen protector at this price . I also wonder (when it ships) how it would play with curved glass on Galaxy Nexus. The curve is not big but glass is not as flexible as regular film.
For what it matters, I went with real cheappo $4 for 5 film and I like it better, sensitivity wise then naked screen. It's smoother and finger can glide on it without getting stuck like on glass. Plus I can attest for anti-glare quality. I can finally run my Nexus in the car at 25% brightness even in the broad daylight and can still clearly see the screen.

The guy from the company who makes these posted on the forum (the thread was closed because of the advertising rule) showing the a glass protector for a smaller screen applied on the Nexus to prove that it works with the curved screen. It seems to work fine.
My only reservation with the protector right now is how well the edges would work and how easy it is to apply. Normally I would buy a pair of protectors in case I screw the first one up, but at the price I would have to think twice about it.

I'm definitely looking for one too. I got one for my note 3 and it's amazing. Especially since the tempered glass protectors are about the same price as regular ones.

This is the one I bought (disregard the silly product title haha): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Explosion-p...l_Phone_Screen_Protectors&hash=item35cce6fc3e
I bought the same one for my parents for their note 2's and have absolutely no complaints so I expected the same quality for my note 3 and I wasn't wrong.
Plus you can also find even reputable companies like Bear Motion selling on Amazon for similar prices: http://www.amazon.com/Bear-Motion-P...2549888&sr=8-6&keywords=note+3+tempered+glass

Thats a negative good buddy, hoping something will be out for Christmas. I am still waiting on one for my LG G2 which I like a whole lot better than the Samsung S4 I had.

Thanks! In for two explosions. Been happy with the low priced phone accessories from China without the silly mark up.
Happy with this minimal case for Note 3 to protect the back and sides from scratches. Now I have protection for the front.

Not quite tempered glass but Green Onions finally released a screen protector for the Note 10.1 2014. I use the same type of oleophobic screen protector on my note 3 and it really helps with grease. My Note 10.1 2014 sees way more constant touching from my fingers so I grabbed it asap.
Bumparoo!
Anyone find any glass yet for this device?
Plastic screen protectors suck with the spen.

Just got in my Green Onions oleophobic screen protector today. Same material as the one I use on my Note 3. Works perfectly fine with the pen for me and IMO more importantly, the oleophobic coating makes sure my fingers don't grease up my note as I am taking notes and using my tablet. I would've liked to go all out and gotten a tempered glass screen protector but none are out yet and I prefer oleophobic protectors anyways. 26 bucks is a little expensive but I think you get what you pay for.
Subscribed, looking for one of these 'TG SP's for the 2014 note 10 also.

Was this screen protector edge to edge? I don't want gap between the sliver trim to the screen protector.

Yes. It was somewhat difficult to align because of that. They give you a huge sheet to remove dust bedore installation but I also uses the steamy shower install method to be dust free. Took about 10 tries but the cover fits perfectly now.

Bump, any new info?
Do you think it is necessary to use a screen saver, if the official case is used?

Found One
Well, a tempered glass screen protector finally hit Ebay (I can't post links yet but do a search for "Tempered Glass Explosion proof Screen Protector film for SAMSUNG Phones 2013 new" and you should find it). I know that Alibaba (seems to be an Asia-based import company) has listed tempered glass screen protectors for a month or so (if you wanted to import in bulk) and it was nice to finally find one on EBay for $17 (with shipping). I'm sure it will take a few weeks to get here but will let you know how it works once I get it.

Bubble free application and with the plastic tip it's perfect with the s-pen. I have placed many many screen protectors on a variety of devices and I have to say this screen protector is easy, the best I have used.
Make sure the screen is dust free and slowly press the protector in place and the bubbles will automatically push out but it's best to add a bit of pressure with a card to ensure the protector is properly adhered to the screen.

If I can ask, does the s-pen come with different tips or are they interchangeable with after market ones or something??
Also looking at that screen protector thank you.

Yeah you get 2 different tips in the box. Takes literally 5 seconds to swap them over.
One is a hard plastic and the other has a rubber tip.

I have the Zaggs HD screen protector on my 2014 and have had no S Pen issues whatsoever. I also have not had any issues with 'bubbling' per se, but unlike the Zaggs 'Original' screen protector, the Zaggs HD does have a tendency to get marred a bit with extended use.
I have no experience with any other brand of screen protectors.

So I am planning to pick up the Galaxy Note 10.1 sometime in the next week and one of the things I really like about it is the S-pen and the pressure sensitivity to it with the digitizer in the screen, I kind of wanted to use it to learn a bit how to draw/etc which led me to the question about screen protectors. I hate them because they are a pain for me to put on and I am very ocd about bubbles in screen protector. Is the Zagg (I think it is?) best buy protectors going to work fine with the S-pen? I'm really concerned with it having a lot of friction or drag and more importantly that it will mess with the sensitivity of the S-pen.
If not, any recommended easy to apply screen protectors?

It states in the manual "do not use a screen protector".
IMO, I had store bought ordinary screen protector on my 2014 while I was waiting for the Tempered Glass screen to come from China..
I had NO problems with either one. The first one worked very well. I just happen to like the Tempered Glass better. I have good results with Temp Glass on my Note 3..
IMO, no need to be concerned, and I highly recommend some form of screen protector..

How is it with fingerprints??

My experience with fingerprints from using several devices with screen protectors is to have CLEAN AND DRY HANDS, and no prints are left.
Moist, and greasy hands will leave fingerprints in almost all situations. Also, with the super high resolution of this device, it could be that those fingerprint proof screens sacrifice some of the resolution. I have no proof of that, just a thought...
Im using a zagg shield on my note and its amazing. No issues with sensitivity or ripping the shield with the s pen.

Funny thing about this Tempered Glass. The first one for my Note 3, I had the Spigen Tempered Glass Protector, which cost upward of $30+. However, it was either a bad installation or a faulty piece of glass, but the Spigen wouldn't stick to my Note 3.. I returned it, and purchased a clone off Ebay for $7.50. The clone works perfectly..The one for the GN 2014 cost $17.99, also off Ebay.. So, I spent $26 and sporting Tempered Glass on both my Notes..

Look closely, they all look the same but there should be 2 plastic ones. If not then call up samsung and get them to send you some because thats not acceptable.
