Cheap, easy way to incorporate Wireless Charging - ONE Accessories

I know it's lazy, but thoughts? It's 1000 mA
I've never had wireless charging before and always told myself that my next phone would have wireless charging...

That one I believe is rated as 500mA so it's going to take a long time to charge. A 750mA one is better, but it will be thicker as well and the microUSB on them are shoddy. I would like it if someone knows the exact location of the +5V and Ground solder point on the mother board, that would be the best solution.

This one looks like the same thing. Both say "Charging current: DC 5V/500mA-1000mA" but I wouldn't expect anything over 500mA. I ordered one anyway even though my case won't be here for another week.

interesting, if it is possible to "install" it under the back cover.!?

I wonder how long the OnePlus One will take at 500mA. I ordered the same one with "500-1000". Waiting on my case to arrive so I can actually use it.

I was going to make a thread today on this but I can confirm that most of these are actually 500mA regardless of what it says in the description. I already received the case I ordered from Amazon so I put it all together yesterday and it all plays nicely. You obviously loose the usb port but that's why I did all my rooting and unlocking first. It's plastic so it will likely not damage the usb port on the phone. I have not tested the charge time, will try today and let everyone know.
Originally I was thinking of putting the receiver behind the actual phone backing. Decided against it because you never know if you need the usb port. Also, I hate the feel of the back of the phone and much prefer the case.
If someone can identify the pins to make a direct connection, that would be great but for now it works!

Read my thread here about how I soldered on internally. http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/internal-wireless-charging-t2819398
The one that I purchased was rebranded as 750mA, but on the original sticker under the one put over it it says it's rated for 1000mA. I have a couple of the black ones OP is talking about and they don't provide enough juice to even reliably charge the one. Check out my thread above and the link to my original post on the opo forum. I have a link to the one I purchased on ebay there that worked the best for me.

@inaudible101 - what tools did you use to remove the back cover?
At 500mA, it should take about 6 hours to charge a battery at around 5%. This assumes that you are getting the full 500mA, too, not less.

Yeah I tried a 500mA one and it just didn't cut it. The 1000mA one works much better. I may hook it up to my multimeter just to see what the real output is for my own sake. I used a pocket knife to get the corner up and then slid my thumb nail under and the hooks pop off easily. They have a video on their website showing that you can push on the back with your thumb and then just pry the bottom but I'm not sure how well that works.

Guys, what receiver do you have and how much does it really output? On mine it says 500 mAh but in reality it only has an average of 300 mAh. I measured this with Battery Monitor Widget.
This is my receiver: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Univ...less-Charging-Receiver-Module/1973302276.html

Has anyone found a 1000ma version?

Is it safe to leave the receiver plugged in even if i'm not charging it, like would it damage my usb port?
Cause I just ordered one for my OPO and a wireless charger from aliexpress.

Charging Requirements

Does anyone know what the power requirements are/will be for the XOOM? I expect it to have a good battery, but I still want to set up or simply buy a solar charging system for when I am not home. I might utilize the barometer to try geocaching.
Also, will it be trickle chargeable over USB?
I have the same question on USB charging. We know it has its own AC charger and special port. I asked on another forum this question and will post back if I hear anything.
Xoom manual is out on the web and it clearly states no charging via USB.

I guess the question now is what is the voltage of the charger. It has a car charger so the voltage is hopefully not high. I want to be able to charge it with my 6.5w solar panel.

If you have not yet tried the iGo tips/chargers, I strongly recommend you consider. Instead of a gazillion chargers, you change the tip. I picked up one for my laptop that works both in my car and house. It came with tips for almost every laptop imaginable so I can let others charge in my car, too. I am guessing one of my laptop tips might work for the xoom. Also the laptop charger has a USB port so I can charge my laptop and a device off so USB at the same time.
It would seem 5V would be the norm. Its the amperage that I am wondering.
We know the ipad in which this tablet draws its battery comparison uses 5V and 2.1amps.
We will find out soon enough

The charger is a 12V 1.5A charger. The tip is not a common one; definitely small and looks like it will break easily. I hope decent options come soon for using the contact dots.

I wonder why they went with this kind of connector. Too bad they didn't spend the money to include some kind of inductive charging system. It wouldn't have increased the cost of the tablet that much, maybe $10 in parts.
I just checked EBay and I found combo silicone case + "micro USB car charger" for the xoom. I wonder if the car charger is legit.
Anyone bought a car charger yet? Motorola's is a bit pricey at $30.

Multimedia dock available NOW!

I was browsing around on ebay and found a multimedia dock for our beloved TB's. Its deff not the highest quality dock i have ever seen, but it looks like a viable replacement until Verizon or HTCpedia release the official one. It doesnt look like it is slanted slightly to have a nice viewing angle but still its $30...the one from Verizon is $60. Let me know what you guys think.

That one has been available for a little while now. There is a thread where someone has a link for it cheaper also. I'm holding out for the Verizon one.
I would avoid this one, I purchased one from amazon and returned it the same day. The viewing angle is horrible, it is difficult to put in and take off (almost dropped my TB taking it off), and worst part about it, It did not charge the phone. All the lights worked on it, but would not produce a charge. I will wait for the verizon one if it ever comes out.

Bah, Noob with first smartphone here! I failed to read any replies, and jumped at the deal, and even ordered the silicon soft case from the same guy.
I want to plug the phone into my Roku box's USB to show videos and pictures I took on the phone. I went to the Verizon store and they said that their multimedia cradles would be available soon, but so far 3 weeks have past and no cradle.
Well, I guess I could fix it if it don't work, I just hope that the extended battery fits.
I bought the soft case to see if I could cut out the extended battery hump easily with a laser engraver.
Misleading title, please change.
Hmm... I've been wanting a cradle for awhile now. So I jumped on this offer, and like any good online buyer, I look for reviews on the product AFTER I buy it. Can you guys confirm that this won't charge the phone? I was just looking for something to hold the phone up while I use WiFi keyboard. :/

OK I have this dock but I knew going in what it was going to be about so I can give you an idea of what you're getting.
The dock has two connectors on it. One is a USB cable (removable) and one is an A/C plug. The A/C plug is there ONLY to charge the second battery and does not charge the bolt when plugged into the dock. It WILL charge the extended battery (the OEM extended batt does fit in the spare battery slot) but not when it's actually on the Bolt. You can't fit the Bolt in the dock with anything other than the stock battery on it.
The USB cable plugs from the dock into (duh) a USB port on your PC. When it's plugged into the USB port the Bolt does detect the connection and I have been able to charge the Bolt this way. I've also been able to mount the SD card this way to move files and stuff. It doesn't charge as fast being USB vs wall charger but it does charge it. I'm looking at it right now and it just charged it to 100 percent.
The USB cable will not plug directly into the Bolt. It's Mini USB and not Micro USB. Another issue is that you can forget leaving the Bolt in a case and putting it on this dock. It will not fit with any case that I've seen. As was previously mentioned the viewing angle is a bit harsh (it's not angled.) It's basically a straight up and down mount so unless you're putting the dock somewhere at least at eye level it's not as easy to view.
This dock also has NO HDMI port on it. I have mine at work because I don't need the HDMI here. I'm going to get the OEM dock for home use since it's expected to have the HDMI out.
So to summarize it does charge the Bolt's stock battery in the dock as well as the extended in the spare battery slot. You can use the USB functions while plugged into the dock. I'm streaming Pandora right now while docked. The viewing angle is a bit harsh when the dock sits below eye level. The Bolt charges over USB with this dock. The spare battery will only charge via the attached A/C plug. You can't charge it in a case. The USB cable (removable) is mini USB NOT Micro USB and there is no HDMI.
Hope this helps.
ETA: I should add that you could use one of those USB to A/C adapters and plug the USB cable from the dock into A/C and charge that way (if you just wanted a faster charging solution.) I have tested it and it does charge that way.
Many thanks Cubs2008 ! This is exactly what I was looking for. I feel bad that I bought the dock on Ebay for $27 when I could have gotten it on Amazon for less, but lesson learned. Glad to know that I can charge the phone and the battery! Now to figure out the viewing angle problem (post it notes under the front end?). lol.

I paid even more ($34 I think) but it does what I need it to for now. If I needed HDMI at work I'd have waited but no point in that.
As for the viewing angle it's really not too bad if you can raise the dock more to your eye level. It does wiggle a little bit left to right in the dock (but very little.) You could put it on a book or something that would raise it up and it's fine. I sit pretty low at my desk in my chair so it's not nearly as much of an issue for me (and it's not quite at eye level.)
There is one more thing I forgot to add...someone mentioned getting it in and out of the dock being a pain and I totally agree. It's due to the fact that it basically sits almost upright in the dock. There are times where I've gotten frustrated just trying to get it in or out of there. It's because I always think of angling it into the dock rather than going straight down with it. When I do drop it straight in it usually slides right in with no issue. However I also have a Zagg max coverage shield on my Bolt so I may have more of an issue because of that.
Good luck!
Thanks for the information, Cubs2008! Very much appreciated.
Wish I had a contact at a factory in China... probably wouldn't be very difficult to produce a better quality desktop dock at a competitive price!

No kidding! If they would've angled the dock in front just a little bit and added an HDMI port this thing would've slayed the OEM dock. It still does a lot on its own IMO and we probably would've seen the dock for $60+ instead of around $30.
I'll still get the OEM dock when it comes out but this one does do what I need it to at work. Yay.

they can't just add an HDMI port just like that. if they could we already would see a post on here about a hdmi cable.
The dock arrived today...
Here is the lowdown after disassembling it:
It looks to be assembled by children with a hot glue gun and old fashioned soldering gun. There is gobs of hot glue used to hold in the 2 LED's. One is an insanely bright blue led, and the other, untested and discarded, is a bi-color led.
There are 2 completely isolated circuits inside, one being a simple micro-USB connector on a cable that is hot glued in place, with the blue LED tapped off the 5V from the USB. I could not find any resistor inline with the LED, so it's lifespan is questionable at best.
The second circuit is the battery charger board held in place with 1 screw at one end, and the mini-USB socket at the other. It has wires to the bi-color LED. This is powered by a 5V 1A wall wart. It does not supply any power to the USB that connects to the phone
The LED's have their full length of lead wire in tact, with over-sized shrink tubing loosely covering them, and all that excess lead wire is sticking out of the hot glue like cat whiskers.
In effect it electrically comparable to a $5 battery charger, and a separate $1 USB to micro-USB cable, nothing more.
There is no media functions whatsoever. It is difficult and time consuming to plug the phone into the cradle, and you cannot use it with the extended battery or any type of case.
Advice: pass! Use your easier to plug in HTC USB cable, and if you want a separate battery charger, get another brand.

wow, Cubs2008 thanx for the indepth info!
I wanted to add to the topic that you can actually stand the entire dock upright with the Bolt plugged in and the extended battery in there and it will stay standing up. I'd advise placing the battery and the Bolt in it landscape and then pick the entire dock up and it will stand up. I've used it this way with no ill effects.

I'm not 100% sure but the max the whole unit can dobis 2.1 amps. So you will get about 1.05 amps per Usb port if you have two devices plugged in. Of course your device limits the amount of current it takes in.....
If you need something to compare it to, one Usb port on this cigarette socket charger should be as good as the stock samsung wall charger.
I just ordered two of these myself.

The Scosche one in my earlier post can simultaneously supply 2.1 A to a tablet / Sat-Nav or second phone etc and 1 A to a phone. It has dedicated ports for both which are clearly marked. You can of course use the 2.1 A for a second phone if required and it will supply only what the phone will take. :good:

so you are saying it is magic?
2.1 total, means it could output 1.05 MAX to each, not 1.5
also, to pull more than .5 amps it needs special internal wiring to tell the phone it is ok, and that wiring is different than what an iphone uses.
I bet you are pulling .5 amps on each, and do not have a full understanding of the device.
just walk to the closest Verizon Store and ask for the dual USB car charger the output is 1a per slot @ $19.99.

I bought two of these and I just got both of them. Really quick shipping as it comes out of NJ. I have not yet used them but when I do I will post back with how it is.
I gotta say it is really small and it should be flush once installed.
I would make sure each port has the dedicated amount of power needed for each device individually, if the overall power is split between the two it could be possible for one device to draw the MAX power of the charger, if theres a fault in the phone this could happen, correct me if im wrong but genuine SINGLE chargers limit the power needed by the charging device, im not sure if the device itself can limit the power entering it
Devices will only draw whatever power is needed for them to charge, so if the overall power of the charger is reached due to two devices connected, the devices will TRY to draw what they need, this can damage the charger itself over time, and if theres a fault in the phone itself it can draw more than it needs because the charger can provide double whats needed

I have had experience with this charger and here is some info (saying it si the griffin one they picture, and not some cheap knockoff... notice it even says griffon in the pic):
it WILL charge an S3, and an S2 at the same time (neither were navigating though...)
if you want to switch it to AC (fast charge) mode, you need to either:
a. open the case, and wire the data pins together
or
b. have a charging cable that has those pins already wired togther.
that is how you fast charge with this device. good piece of kit though, i would recommend to anyone.

On the youtube video, the ac adapter is shown, and the writing says it is 1500mA. I think it only provides 500ma to the spare batt charger, if it is like other spare batt chargers I have seen. 500mA for the phone will barely keep up with general use. I would be interested to see what real world use is for charge times both in phone and spare battery.
Its a damn good dock, just ordered of amazon for £15 inc P&P which works out £5 cheaper than mobilefun and if you want next day (1-2days) its just under £20 so still cheaper. 500A is not an issue for me as i only plan to keep the phone docked (compared to leaving the phone flat not charging) so not too bothered about the charge but do like the idea of it being able to charge a spare battery.
So does that mean that the dock can output only 500 mA or that the charger that comes with it can only output that much? Can't we just use our stock charger that outputs 1000 mA with the dock or is that not how it works?

According to the specs, no matter what adapter you use (theirs is 1500mah) you only get 500.

Well, that's a bummer. That means double the charging time?

Find out when it arrives i guess, but it realy doesnt effect me much if it takes longer to charge aslong as it charges both to 100%. I get through a whole day easily enough and ill be using this to charge overnight as I sleep so.
Mine should be getting here on Friday so I'll post a review once I put it through its paces.
I ordered a white one couple days ago too. Be here any day now. Will let u know too

Looks like mine is getting here a day early so I'll get it sometime today.
I wasn't expecting to receive mine until tomorrow, but it arrived today.
I'm unable to take any pics atm, but when I get my backup phone back from my buddy tomorrow night Ill be able too. He needed an unlocked phone for his trip to Israel so I loaned him my POS Focus.
For now I will say that my GS3 with a Gimmick Five Triobump BARELY fits, but it does fit and charges fine. The bottom curvature with the little slot removed is just slightly off from the curve of the bumper. I can slide the phone with case in and with a little pressure it sits perfectly, however if you move the dock around too much the device will be pushed up ever so slightly causing it to disconnect from the USB port. A light tap on the top of the phone and it'll sit right again.
Ill find out tonight how well it actually charges my phone since it was already at 100% when I received the dock. Now as for the battery compartment in the back, it stopped charging my QCell 2300 @90% sadly. Ill see if this trend continues after a few charge cycles. /crosses fingers
The content of my package consisted of the dock itself, a us DC adapter and 1 USB-micro cable not 2 and the dock only has 1 micro USB port so you have to choose to connect to the DC adapter or to your PC not both unless I'm really stupid and overlooked a 2nd port. I was under the impression that I would be able to have the dock plugged in with the DC charger while also running a USB from the dock to a PC or other device for syncing. Nope, Guess not...
I don't have much more to say at the moment. Gimme a couple days with it and we'll see.

I got mine today too, like you I was surprised there wasn't another usb port, but looking at the youtube video there really is only one port. My spare battery also stopped charging at around 93%, I think it may be due to the protection circuit in there. In terms of charging, I had it plugged in with usb and it charged my s3 from 40% to 100% in about 2 hours, but bearing in mind that I was also charging another battery in the second slot. I think charge times are good given that the USB max is 500mA, the thing I am wondering about is that the ac adaptor that comes with it has a output of 1500mA (even 500mA more than the samsung supplied one), I haven't tested it as both my batteries are full atm but ill let you know whether the charging via ac adaptor reduces the charge time by a third.
Interestingly enough, my phone now sits in the dock PERFECTLY with the triobump on. It sit in there nice and snug. Doesn't pop loose anymore if I jostle it around. Very nice
Just for reference, took about 50min to bring my QCell 2300 from 61% to fully charged using the DC adapter. No secondary battery chargin.Just the phone. Not a very heavy battery use day today. I was actually busy at work... lmao

Same here. Just charged my phone from 41% to 100% in about 2 hours. I can live with that. Don't have a spare battery yet so I haven't had a chance to try that out yet. And the my S3 with a Cruzerlite TPU case fits perfectly in the cradle.
I'm using the stock S3 AC adapter and usb cable btw.
just to let everyone know, charging with the supplied ac adaptor is 2.5x faster than using usb, the only issue being is that the supplied usb cable is a bit short, so ill have to buy a bigger one

By "supplied ac adapter", you mean the one that came with the Kidigi dock right? Can't you just plug the S3 usb cable into that?

Micro USB to Qi Adapter

I just ordered my OnePlus One and pretty happy. I'll miss the wireless charging however, and I've seen these in the past, but think you could put this under the backplate? They seem pretty thin.

Opinion, or has anyone tried this?? Thanks in advance!
I'm thinking the same thing too. It should fit inside the back cover but I don't know if the nfc pad will interfere the charging. Haven't try wireless charging XD. Another choice is to put that pad under slim back case, should be OK and you don't have to open the 1+1 back cover too. One thing that I concern is the charging rate. With Qi charger, it's going to take forever to fully charge the 1+1. 2A charger vs 500 mA qi charger

First, search the forums on both on XDA and OnePlus.Net. Already ongoing discussions. That said, I've used a few models, including the one listed here. They charge S-L-O-W. Less than 10 percent per hour. If you do use this, get the model with the long end of the USB connecor facing up towards the screen and the narrow end facing down toward the back.

The biggest problem you will have is with the USB plug part. Look at my post history and you will find my thread where I installed on internally. I'm using a 750mA one that seems to charge just fine. It's not as fast as the cord, but it keeps my phone charged all day. I have wireless chargers everywhere though.

Did you install it under the plate and if so did it interfere with your NFC at all?

You have to peal up the NFC antenna or it does not work reliably. There is a nice large thread I made in general that you need to read. You question has been answered very thoroughly with testing.
This is the one I bought....waiting on it.....
