Hello! (I'm sorry to post this question here that some might think is "hijacking" the thread, but I can't start a new thread yet and the relevant Vernee Thor development and support thread is closed for some reason beyond my understanding at the moment)
Can anyone please advise how to change the boot and shut(down) animation on a Vernee Thor running on stock Android 7.0? I've checked many (all?) possible locations [custom/bootani; /system/media & browsed to all the folders in the root directory] to find and replace the relevant zip files, to no avail.
Thanks in advance for any useful advice!

Since the Google company official released its new version of operation system Android Nougat last year, still lots of flagship smartphones have yet to get updated to Android 7.0,and those phone manufactures appeal to need to take more time to roll out this new latest version of system to their products. However, some budget devices run Android 7.0 out of box in advance of many high-end handsets, how’s the performance of budget device powered by Android 7.0 ? And what’s the difference ?
In this video, the AGM A8 which is the rugged smartphone with very low price can show you the features of the Android 7.0

RE: AGM A8 - try to avoid GEARBEST ! + anyone know how to unlock / "root" one?t
I thought the AGM A8 for €128 on GearBest looked like a good deal -
My old phone's microphone has stopped working , so I bought one from GearBest . COM -
looks like a great phone, but GearBest have got to be the worst company I have ever dealt
with on the web. They took my money for "expedited 3-day DHL delivery", and here I am,
11 days later, with no phone and only a DHL tracking number issued 5 days ago saying the
package was picked up in Hong Kong. DHL said it was for delivery within 1-2 weeks.
GearBest wasted the first 5 days quibbling about my legal permanent address in Ireland being
longer than 35 characters - this is not even enough characters to represent the address of the
main DHL depot in Dublin, which is the only address GearBest agreed to deliver to, requiring them
to record my 16 digit driving licence # on the package (with the 38 character address of DHL's main depot)
so I can pick up - they were obviously just inventing an excuse for their delay .
They evidently don't speak or write english, and their communications with me have been nonsensical ,
probably auto-translated from Chinese by BabelFish-like software . I contacted AGM, who were very
helpful, and told be they are considering not supplying GearBest anymore because of many similar complaints ,
and that their phones will shortly be available for purchase on Amazon .
I wish I had waited !
P.S. : can anyone suggest the best method of rooting one of these devices, using only Open-Source software ?
Still investigating this, haven't found an Open Source rooting app that claims to be able to unlock one yet.
Thanks @7890K -
- yes, typical of my luck recently, I bought the phone for €128 3 days before they decided to offer the €9 flash sale, from the worst supplier on the web (GearBest.Com),
again a couple of weeks before it will be made available on Amazon; I also paid €8 for 3-day expedited delivery , and am still awaiting arrival 12 days later.
RE: Rooting Methods -
o AFAICS, after nearly 1 week searching, THERE IS NO OPEN-SOURCE ANDROID ROOTING APPLICATION , anywhere , period .
What I mean by open-source is that one can download the SOURCE CODE ( C / C++ / Java), build the application, and run it.
The motives for people distributing android rooting applications seem to me to be primarily :
1. Hacker Kudos (showing off).
2. Installing advertisements and unwanted paid-for content / bloat-ware on your phone
3. Taking over your device completely & maliciously .
None of these motives include helping people to unlock their phones:
A) controllably, so that the user knows every step that will being taken, and can choose not to take any step or to take different steps
B) Safely, so that bricking one's device is made as unlikely as possible
C) Understandably, so that users can read & understand exactly what will be attempted.
Noting the sad lack of above features, I've decided to write a rooting app myself, that will be open-source and have these features.
It may take a while, but at least I'll know exactly what state my phone will end up in, & it will be a good learning experience.
review of & stock ROM link for A8
I just received my new AGM A8, bought from GearBest 3-days before the €9 flash sale started
@ http://agmmobile.com . I think this may be because they are trying to offload the qualcomm
410 based units because they are about to bring out qualcomm 425 units (which is what it now says on
the specs web-pages).
But what a phone ! 4-bar 4G reception inside steel hulled boat,
Large 5" flawless display, excellent instant GPS fix & compass / orientation sensors ,
huge battery, FM radio, 13MPX camera.... & Android 7.0!
What's not to like ?
framaroot, z4root and kingaroot all failed to root the device .
Luckily, agmmobile have a link to the Stock ROM images at :
[Stock Rom] AGM A8 Android 7.0 Version (only for A8 7.0 device ,can't be used for update from 5.1 to 7.0)

https&colon://mega(&dotnz/#!B9gFUSQY!gyfwczITS_iEE6-Lr5ADq37bxEZjIB9auR63Zmc6L5Q
I will try making a custom rom based on contents of above rom & post back here if any success at rooting.

I've copied that stock ROM to my google drive at : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxDTVsHFOZdTcHVmbmJZa3RNcHc
It just contains the file : T88Q_14.bin
, which is probably encrypted with some key , and is probably the only image the device will fastboot -
at least I'll have a copy of the image if agmmobile decides to remove it.
The Android settings does have a 'unlock OEM bootloader' option, but the device
does NOT support the 'fastboot oem unlock' command - it says 'no such command' ,
when I did get it to boot into fastboot mode by enabling developer mode & USB debugging,
plugging in the USB to my linux laptop with ADB installed, holding down Volume->UP while powering on,
and issuing fastboot commands.
The hardware identifies as an MSM8916 chipset with hardware ID: HS8939QC .
http://system-on-a-chip.specout.com/l/440/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-410-MSM8916
says :
"Devices which use QualComm 410 MSM8916 chipset :
Samsung Galaxy J3
LG G Stylo
LG G4c
Wileyfox Swift
Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen (2015)
LG G4c
"
But there do not seem to be any ROMs in lineageos or AOSP or ClockWorkMod ROMs for any of those
with Android 7.0 , so I cannot create a recovery yet & have not been able to root the device .
I would really like to build AOSP & create a flashable modifiable ROM for it - please, can anyone suggest how / which ROM / next steps ?
Only 2 glitches found so far, one the phone's fault, one android:
1. The phone slipped off my lap onto the carpet - the SIM card then became mis-sited & SIM card connection lost .
Not what I'd expect from a "Shock-Proof" device.
I think this is because the HUGE battery (with a true long life! +9hrs!) abuts with micrometer tolerance right
against the SIM card. Any sudden movement will mechanically vibrate the SIM card through the battery - but that
is literally the only design flaw I can find - an otherwise great phone.
2. An issue with lack of Wifi-HotSpot parameter settings on Android 7.0 - see : https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/networking/android-nougat-7-0-7-1-wifi-hotspot-t3574776
This is the killer for me - I am investigating investing in a GSM modem PCMCIA card for my laptop because of this if I cannot root the phone & update hostapd.conf .
I'm trying to build TWRP & AOSP recovery.
My mobile phone is my main internet connection.

Can you explain further the "changing plate" solution.
Thanks.
teh S9 demo units we had were 100% operational including cellular. I was shocked to find that out, but it is true. Im not sure if Samsung was relying on the knowledge that previous demo units were unable to make calls on their own or what, but the S9s and Note 9s we got at our entire regions retail stores were all live and 100% functional. I worked for a retail store based out of bentonville, ar that specialized in wholesale and mass quantities items. The kind of place where if you want to buy a box of kleenex, you have to buy 37 others with it. (hint: its not walmart)

Wierd, when I saw J4+ (Snapdragon 425 / msm8917) getting LineageOS 16 got on the news, I thought that ROM for Samsung Snap 425 (this phone included) would explode like crazy.
So, there are 2 options I guess?
Get to work yourself. Guides are plenty on the Internet. Reference tree is already available at J4+ tree/j4primelte
Ask a dev (definitely not me, I'm a broke noob ) to make ROM, with the reference of J4+ tree
Good luck o,o/

Device Inventory Manufacturer Not Specified

My apologies if this has been addressed in the past but I did search and search quite a bit, not only on major search engines but XDA as well and could not find any mention of this.
For the device inventory settings, when adding a device I've noticed many of the newer devices linked to their respective forums have the Manufacturer input as Not Specified
Yet the older device forums appear to consistently have that correctly filled with whichever company manufactured them.
For the Motorola forums this is pretty evident as nearly all of the newer releases have an unspecified manufacturer, my guess is the XDA forum migration may be the reason that process fell apart.
It's clearly no top of the list issue given the more pressing things needing to be addressed but since I found no way for users to submit or edit this tiny bit of device detail, I presume it's left either to forum moderators or XDA admins.
Anyway, please excuse my obsessive compulsion for maintaining complete and accurate lists.
This for instance?

Please any ideas if it's fixable?

Yes. Precisely this. And it's even more baffling to see as in your screenshot both the S21 and FE have it populated correctly but not the S21+ and Ultra? All but one came out the same month this year so there goes my assumption that it was a forum migration issue. It seems more likely due to whomever creates the device forum at the time isn't filling out that particular text field on the form. I'm completely clueless on that end of things.

It is fixable for sure. I remember handling a report that a user had made regarding the same issue with another device forum and Mike took care of it for me.

Thank you, guys. Here I thought this thread would wind up buried with little to no action... Damn glad I was wrong! Special tip o' the hat to @woodman for directing this issue to the appropriate person, and @MikeChannon for your swift response.
Alright, on to the list. These will be primarily Motorola devices. Is it enough to simply list the device as on the list or would it be easier to have a link to it? There is at least some comfort in that these are mostly huge lists now and won't be a common or frequent task, I'd hope.

Moto X Style (Pure Edition)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/c/moto-x-style-pure.4365/
A note on that last one, the X Style Pure. its got two listings in the device list, but the one that has the manufacturer info and graphic correctly filled in doesn't link to the device forum, as in it has no live link at all. Yet the other listing which clicks through to the device forum doesn't contain the mfc. info or the graphic.

Yes. That is what this thread is about.
Hi @MikeChannon,
hopefully this thread still functions as to request changes to the "Device Inventory" and your kind support.
The older "Samsung Galaxy S2" or "SII" (with several XDA forums) can be found two times as 1. "i9100" (add_device_id=61) without "Samsung" as manufacturer and as 2. "Samsung Galaxy S II" (add_device_id=60).
And I stumbled upon a strange error (" Oops! We broke the matrix. Someone call Neo! ") while adding a "Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra":
Adding a "Samsung Galaxy S20" via the search device link works. It is "add_device_id=1135", but I want to add "Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra". The Ultra seems to be add_device_id=1136 (As device search link "+ Add device to inventory" contains.), which surprisingly does not work.
Could it be that, if a specific device (see "Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra" or "Samsung Galaxy S II" above) is not (already) linked to a XDA forum, it will fail to be added to device inventory?
Thank you for your support.

Hi
Well the older devices werte a bit of a nightmare to add to the device inventory as there were so many variations, carriers etc. Not to mention that the device inventory is a custom add-on to our XenForo forum software and as a consequence isn't always easy to work with. For that reason I'm reluctant to change anything with the S2 / SII forums/device inventory.
For the much newer S20 Ultra what happened there is that originally there were separate forums for the S20 /\Ultra and plus versions. As these shared software it was decided to roll the forums together but clearly the device IDs were not merged.
Hopefully you can now add the Ultra version.
Mike
Hi @MikeChannon,
thank you. Yes, I now have just the whole device family (i.e. "Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra") in my inventory. Obviously, I initially didn't catch, that it is less a detailed device specification but a convient link to the related XDA forums.
As a small final cleanup, the single still existing "Samsung Galaxy S20+" would now also need its merger into the above mentioned device family/forum.
Thank you for your longstanding support.

Yes it's more just a linking to the forum (if we have one) sort of thing. It's certainly not perfect as it does not allow adding devices for which we don't have a forum.
I removed the old broken link to the Samsung Galaxy S20+ so it can be added now but only as the group of: S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra
