Galaxy S9 Battery Replacement Performance - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hello XDA .
I had my battery Galaxy S9 Tmobile Version USA qualcomm- professionally replaced about 8 months ago and expected NEW battery performance like first year I owned phone .
NEW - the battery would stay on 100% for about 10 minutes of browsing 4G LTE then slowly go down .
On LTE I got very good SOT keeping brightness at 30% to 35% and SYNC off / not letting Sites and APPS notify me [ no' exciting news 'from Home Depot or FB -lol] .
NEW Battery [ from Ubreak I Fix who installed it nicely ] BUT new battery did not much improve over my 4 year old battery !
The original battery despite heavy use really performed GREAT until about year 4 - despite charging every day or more !
QUESTION - for experts :
'New Battery could have been 4 years old [ it seemed to have about 88% when NEW according to a few battery APPS - versus FACTORY BATTERY when new = 105 % of claimed ?
Anyway - 25% lower than ACTUAL NEW would explain the results I got.
1]Is this because even NEW FACTORY S9 Batteries are actually 5 years old and degraded at this point ?
2] OR Was this just a slightly used battery sold as 'new'?
3] IF I could definitely get a 3000 MAH + TESTED NEW SAMSUNG Battery - I might even try again while I decide if S22 or S20 are worth upgrade.
The S9 has great audio and still rugged and reliable ..
Is there any way to buy a Samsung S9 Battery that has been tested and is truly 3000 MAH or slightly above like the original FACTORY battery ?
Thanks for the expert opinions on this.

How much time on screen do you get with the new battery?

How is the battery life on your phone? Do you know of any options like extended battery pack for this version of the phone?
Thanks
The battery is the same as any other gnex. After the battery has settled I get about 60 percent usage a day while at work. You can always buy additional batteries.
The gnex nfc chip is on the battery so you need to make sure the replacement has it as well or your nfc will stop working

Will a new original Samsung battery improve battery life after 2 years?

I've own the SGS3 almost since launch day. Soon it will be 2 years old.
I'm getting 3 hours SOT and 24 hours total.
I'm thinking of buying a new original 2100 battery to see if it improves battery life. Would it?
Anyone has tried this?
Thanks.

I haven't tried it yet since I'm hopefully getting a new phone soon but I do believe it would help, maybe an extra hour SOT because I know my battery was amazing back 2 years ago and now I get the same times you do if not worse.
After a year on mine I was only getting 1700mah, So now I get a new Anker 2200mah battery every 6 months because they are just as good as original but do last longer.
Theoretically yes! battery life should improve, as you will be having a new battery.
My battery is just over a year old and i get around a 1d12h worth of battery time and roughly 3.5 to 4 hours SOT.
I recently bought a Pisen 2100mah battery off the internet and for the same SOT i got more usage. maybe 1d 20h nearing the 2d use.
n.b; wifi is always on. i use 3G for like 30 mins during a day
from what I've heard, newer generations of batteries, like ones that ship with SGS3, should not be drained to 0% with phone shutting down. it was advised to charge at low percents like 1% to 5% while phone is still on

Of course it would and if you dont have problem with size and weight i recomend you to get samsung's 3000mhA battery. Why not getting a bigger battery
It depends how old the battery is though. All Li-ion batteries degrade over time, even if they aren't used. So if you get a 2 year old battery, that has been sitting on a shelf somewhere, it won't help as much as you'd hoped. Depending on the temperature and charge level it was stored at, it could have lost a lot of its capacity.
So the trick is to get a newly manufactured battery, which isn't so easy since most sellers don't write this information.

Since a bigger battery means the battery is thicker, the original back cover wouldn't fit, then you need to use a specific cover which would make your phone heavier.
Right now I am in this trouble,I got a Onite 4500mAh extended battery with a blue cover, hopefully it's a great product, shipping as listed and battery performs exactly as listed,I just don't like the cover,it made my phone looked heavier.I was wondering maybe I should choose a power bank and put back my OEM one on.

This is true. You also need to account for your usage. If you do a lot of activity that heats your battery up (games, navigation, etc.) Then even a shelf stored battery will help since heat is another Li-ion killer.
My S3 was 2 years old in May of this year. I have been having issues with the battery and charging. My USB charging port has the classic loose connection issue as does the headphone jack. I see the fix and YouTube videos to repair but have not yet done that. I last week got my new OEM Samsung battery and the external charging kit. I just upgraded to Kitkat 4.4.2 NDA8 despite being eligible for a new phone discount from Sprint. My S3 is a 32gb unit and I will not buy a S5 with only 16gb, no way no how.
The new battery is performing very well. It is so close on updating to 4.4.2 that I can not be certain that there were not issues with my rooted 4.1.2 build after so many months. For sure the new battery is lasting longer. I think it was worth the $42.03 spent on the charger and battery as my USB port is in question and I can always swap batteries and charge with the external charger.
My S3 has a new lease on life and I can wait for new tech before upgrading. xda developers forum - root - and the desire for liberty is a powerful combination.
why not try using wireless charging? the qi reciever + charger should not cost you mote than 35 bucks. and you can still use your current battery, battery cover, & nfc, unlike powermat.

A 2 year battery will definitely be worn-out. Depending on the charging cycle count, could be only a 20%,but maybe a 50 or 70%.
I bought a Zerolemon 7000mAh battery few months a go, I'm usually getting 4-5 days on normal usage, and 11-13h of screen on.
Best bought I have ever made.

[REVIEW] 3500 mAh Chinese battery - India

Hi Guys,
After searching for Samsung made 2000 mAh extended battery in Bangalore for few days, I gave up and settled with something else. I thought I will buy Anker batteries but couldnt find any good deal.
Eventually I ended up buying 3500 mAh extended battery + backpanel from this link - http://www.ebay.in/itm/SAMSUNG-GALA...Mobile_Accessories&hash=item19ecfd2713&_uhb=1
This is a Chinese battery and I did not expect it to be full 3500 mAh but anything above 2500 mAh was fine with me. The prices mentioned at the above link are varying bigtime - I bought it in 1039 INR, 2 days back it was 888 and now its INR 1200.
The bulky backpanel is a must to house this extended battery because of which-
1) Phone becomes quite heavy
2) S2 Lost its beauty, slimness(figure ) and sex appeal
3) Feels Bulky in pocket
But thankfully it does what its meant for. Here are the battery life stats so far-
First charge took almost 6 hours to reach 100% but I let it charge for 10-11 hours.
~37 hours backup
-3 hours 38 mins SOT
- 30-40% screen brightness
Wifi on for ~15 hours
was at 53% after 26 hours, and the drop after that was pretty fast.
2nd charge - took close to 4.5 hours on usb charging
~ 27 hours
- 30-40% screen brightness
~3 hours SOT
-with heavy usage, backing up apps/data, restoring/installing lots of apps, backing up rom and flashing rom thrice
- noticed that the drop after 50% status is very fast. (5-7 % per hour)
3rd charge - took approx 5.5 hours to charge fully (with me installing multiple apps and stuff)
- 43 hours backup
- 30-40% screen brightness
- ~2.5 hrs SOT
- wifi on for ~20 hours, ~40 mins calls, flashing kernels and normal messaging.
Baseline - Apart from the compromise I made on looks of the phone, I am really happy with the battery backup. I could get that kinda backup time only while keeping the phone in standby and very less SOT. I found that the upper part of phone heats up (as usual when involved with heavy activities) but the battery was totally cool. So my fears of it exploding are subsiding with time
Few pics of the phone, battery and backpanel are attached.
P.S. Will be updating the battery stats for next few charges.
I am thinking of buying a similar battery but i dont know because the s2 will become heavier and will lose its slim shape.
Anyway, does the extended battery make big difference to your battery life?

With my 1650 mAh battery I could get 3+ hours SOT but then it wont last for 24 hours. With the new battery I am getting 1.5+ times more battery life than it was previously. The imp thing would be to see for how long i get it (as it is Chinese)
and yeah, with this battery - bye bye slimness and lightness for S2.

Massive! I was tempted too, but I'll resort to some external battery pack; I can't stand seeing the sII with this big fat back

I was a lil demotivated too before buying it but now this big-assed-s2 feels like a new phone to me. To top that, battery backup is pretty much better than the stock. Its like atleast 1.5-2 times more than stock which matters to me a lot.
I am happy with it :cyclops:

Yet another topic about battery replacement...

Yup..that's it.
About 2/3 weeks ago i received a new battery to replace the old one on my nexus 5, that was only giving me about 2h of SOT. The battery is a standard 2300mA, brought on ebay. Right after the installation, the doubts started: the new battery does not have the wireless charging option. That was not said anywhere on the description, so the seller got a neutral feedback. Now, after some time, i come to the conclusion that the battery is as good as the old one: it only lasts for about 2h of SOT. So probably it's a fake battery...
So today i found ou this one: https://www.batteryupgrade.com/shop...rtmentProductId/61381272/shopGroupId/86483823
it says it is 2500mAh. Well, for the price it should be. Anyone care to comment if it is worth try it and spend the money on it or should i consider an original one from lgspares?
Regards.
First things first. Wireless charging is totally irrelavant with what battery you have inside. The coil is attached to the back plate, not the battery. If it is not charging wirelessly check your installation.
Secondly, ebay+batteries = fake. Also, anything more than 2300mAh = fake. These are the two steps you have to do to check if a battery is genuine:
a) Check the battery temp. If it always says 29c, then it is fake.
b) If it DOESN'T have LG printed on the back (or has sth else like Samsung TSDI), then it is fake.
Spareslg used to carry original batteries and I bought one myself about 1,5 years ago. I don't know if this is still the case now, although I don't see why they would change now. So your best bet would be them.
Hi.
Thanks for your input. However the wireless charging is on the battery itself. I did chech this by placing the older battery on top of my wireless charger and saw the ligthing charging indicador turn on.
What's on the back cover is the coil for the NFC.
As for the current battery, when i did found out that about the 29C it really is happening (with slight variations), even thought the battery says LG.
I've sent an e-mail to the website selling this new one. Let's see what they answer.
Enviado do meu Nexus 5 através de Tapatalk
No it is not. The coil is on the back cover. You probably didn't snap the center clip in place (the one above the S), so there is no contact with the leads.
I didn't quite catch what you mean with the battery.
He means the battery temperature is 29 (fake) even if the LG words are written in it.
Topic looks a bit rezzed but...
I got this battery http://www.ebay.com/itm/2500mah-3-8...991327?hash=item4afad7431f:g:LIMAAOSwZ8ZW3lAJ
On my second charge I got 4h55m SOT, but the average from charge #1 and #3 is about 4h10m.
Using NitrogenOS + Nitrogen Kernel (interactive, power saving, -5000uv)
I bought this battery www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NCJMQXK/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8. It is OEM brand new. Easily gives me a full day on one charge with light usage. I can get around 4 hours of non stop gaming. It seams better than the original battery that cane with my phone. All for $9 usd shipped! Shipping was pretty fast too.

I did the mod with a spare G2 battery I got from a relative, but I don't think it really charged beyond 2300mah. The charging times were roughly the same as well as the SOT.
So in my opinion it is just a placebo.

Did you calibrate the battery? That would need to be done for the phone to create a new file for the battery to detect the increase in size.
Well i replaced my Nexus 5s bad 2300 mah battery with LG G2s Genuine new 3000 mah battery.
Only made 1 charge/discharge cycle. I played for 1 h 10 m not demanding game, Used chrome for 1 h 37 m, Used 4G Network for 30 m, Talked 20 m (playd 4-5 games for 4-5 minutes, some youtube, settings and this kind of staff)and it gave me 5 h SOT! And this with Custom rom Android 7 nitrogen (which is buggy!!!!) After 2-3 cycles of my new batter, stable ROM without issues and Voltage and frequency tweaks i think it will give me 6 h 30 m SOT. Which is fantastic for Nexus 5!

I really thinking about mod G2 battery into my Nexus 5.
I tried to order Genuine battery from the links that other people recommended.
Not surprisingly, one Amazon seller send me fake one.
Another one send looks like genuine but battery is manufactured in 2013 which is older than my original battery and, there are bunch of unknown black chemicals outside of the battery that I ordered.
Very tired to buy a genuine battery for Nexus 5. Seems like more easy to mod to install G2.

The one that I ordered is from 2013 but is a brand new unused battery. It is definetelt OEM as I have taken it apart. Before doing so I checked the temperature of the battery as wekk and it checks out there as well. I know they stopped manufacturing these batteries but not sure when. I personally would not be worried about the date of the battery but more so making sure it is OEM.
Well, back in September I bought a 'genuine LG' BL-T9 with tools from a Chinese seller on ebay for $9.
I literally went over it with a magnifying glass and it appears genuine. All the markings are correct, the temp varies, and the build quality is the same as the original.
In fact, the only way I could tell the 2 apart was the sticky residue on the back of the original and the mfg date (11/26/2013 & 07/08/2016).
I took a chance on getting a fake, and if I did it turned out to be a good fake, as SOT went from under 2hrs to slightly over 4 and standby time is almost 5 days compared to the 2.5 or so from the original.
I gambled the $9 and unless my Nexus does a Note 7, I did good.

Manufacturing date is important with Li-polymer batteries.
A 3-year-old unused battery will not last as long as a 3-month-old unused battery.
The 'new' 2013 battery may last longer than the used one in the phone, but it won't last as long as a 2015 battery would.
I'd sooner buy a decent generic 2015-2016 battery than a genuine LG battery made in 2013.

I have not had a single problem with mine. I play a lot of games on my phone and I have no problem getting between 4 to 6 hours of SOT with the battery that I purchased from Amazon. After reading posts online my SOT is what other people are getting with their genuine batteries as well. So I don't see it degrading that much. Of it did it was a very tiny amount which I am fine with for what it cost. I believe it was like $8 shipped. I posted a link to it earlier in this thread or the other battery thread not sure which. I have also been using the battery for around 2 months now maybe s little longer with no degrade in SOT.
I’ve bought a new battery from AliExpress. Date on the battery is June 2016 (I assume it’s manufacturing date).
Before I replace the battery, I want to test the current/original battery. Any suggestion which App I can use?
It would be great if there an app that keeps screen on from 100% charge and records how long screen was on before battery died. Once I have the result, I can run the same app after (/if I manage to) change the battery.
Any suggestion/advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys,

Ampere is the app I use for measuring current & load.
IIRC, it doesn't keep a logfile, but it does help when it comes to determining output & charging current.
As for your other question, I really don't know which app to use, but if you do a search of the entirety of XDA, someone's probably coded one.
Though I personally wouldn't use such an app because the N5 gets pretty warm under heavy use anyway, and I'd rather not have it burst into flame unattended.
Also, the battery I posted earlier about here is still going strong.
It was either a genuine LG battery or a really good counterfeit.
Hi:
I ended up by buying an original battery from spares LG. So far, i'm very happy with the performance: i'm getting between 2h30m and 3h00 SOT, with 4G, wi-fi and Bluetooth allays on.

After 4 years of usage - how to determine real battery capacity/health?

Hey guys,
i've had the note 2 since nov. 2012 and am still on the original samsung battery that came with the phone. Lithium Ion batteries degrade over their lifetime and i wonder how much mine has ''hamoraged'' and whether a new battery would significantly increase my battery life/on time. I've had one battery app installed from the playstore that (i forgot which one) showed a bit above mha 3100 when fully charged. Can this really be true? This would mean no degradation at all, right?
So, is max mha the best determaning indicator of battery health, or can it still show this high a value but drain power much faster than on a fresh battery?
The note 2 luckily has a changeable battery but i would like to actually determine whether a new one would make a significant difference and not just buy a new one just because mine is 4 years old. How do you guys go about it?
