SD-Card problem - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have a problen concerning my SD-Cards
I have a 128 MBSandisk SD on which one edge of the housing opened where it was glued (or ultrasonic welded). Because of this I lost the little slider for the write-protection. The card is now write-protected and therefore of no use to me.
Maybe it is possible to unprotect the card by solderinfg a bridge, SMD-resistor or something simmilar elswhere on the card. The write-protection switch would not be important to me.
Last week this happened to me with my 256 MB Lexar as well.
So i have no memory-card for writing left.
Maybe somone already found a solution or a workaround for this ... i was searching the net since last week, but couldn´t find anything.
tnx in advance,
Sven

Just study the insides, it's probably just a contact/no-contact thing...

oohhh, it´s that simple ...
... not worth discussing in a group ...
Nothing to do with a contact-problem ... its just the outline of the card itsself. I just glued a piece of plastic in the place, where the switch used to be. There are no contacts on the PCB of the card itsself. Its just a matter of the outer shape of the card.
nevertheless, tnx a lot,
Sven

microSD lost half of its gold connector

HELP!
I have a 6 GB microSD card that was in my Tilt when I stupidly dropped water on . Long story short, the Tilt survived, the microSD card did not.
As you can see, half of one of the connectors is missing. My question here is if anyone has any experiences with this and/or suggestions for repairing it? I can't RMA it because it has sensitive data stored in it, an I thought I would give fixing it a shot before mashing it to bits.
Thanks in advance!
If the data must be fetched, solder will temporarily repair it. I wouldn't do this long term, I'd destroy and get a new card if you have your data elsewhere.
That's what I though, just wanted to double check. I've only soldered other things on old test boards and since I'm ready to smash it anyways, I don't mind ruining it.
However if you have suggestions before I attempt it, I'm all ears (brand or technique I should use).

o2 Orbit (Atermis) MicroSD woes

Hi All,
My micro SD slot seems to be broken (
Does anyone know how to fix these? I think one of the lugs that holds the metal cage on has snapped - quite how, I dont know. It means it is only held on in 3 sides
This means that it isnt recognising any SD card I put in it - which sort of kills the whole idea of the phone for me... 64mb isnt enough!
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Memory Slot Worn Out?

If this is the wrong from then please move it but my problem is that the card reader is having a hard time reading my memory card. It will only read it if I put it all the way in and hold it in with my nail.
Not even sure how this happened. I took the card out to load some cabs onto it and when I stuck it back in it didn't read it. I thought it was the card itself until I tried another card.
So right now I have the card in there and I've got a piece of paper in there propping it up for a tight fit. Is there any way to repair this? Not exactly sure which part of the slot has the problem. (pins or walls?)
Anyhow anybody had a similar issue and if so, how did you solve it?
Thanks.
Came to the conclusion that there is a connection issue with the phone to the card slot. I guess the paper wedge + WM5Storage will have to suite me.
You could take apart and see if there is anything you can see wrong... Heres the service manual for disassmbly :http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1
Cheers...
PS. This will void warranty....
Some pins maybe miss align.

Question of the MicroSD slot and location..

Hi Folks,
I have heard that the location of this is a little awkward and that one need to remove the back cover to use it ie for SD memory card etc. However I was wondering how usable it would be for something more plug and play like the Elan MobiAdaptor, see: http://phonearea.net/video-elan-smartphone-microsd-to-usb-mobidapter/ where one is plugging/unplugging USB memory sticks. If one has to remove back covers then this may not be possible????
Comments....
Thanks,
Sam

You will definitely have to do it with the back cover off
But it is doable.... ??? and batteries etc do not accidentally fall out. It is a bit of a shame that it is like this, although there must be a reason.
Thanks tomo,
Sam
yes its doable.
battry is firm in plave ande the slot is easy raechable.
Thanks....
Sam
I've been thinking. How about modding the cover to make the slot reachable?
The back cover is plastic, so it could be done. Don't know if the slot is to far away to get a card in there though (through a hole).

[FIX] Intermittent "SIM card not detected" error

Hi,
As you might have heard, there are several users having problem with their DHD that occassionally they get a "SIM card not detected" error, having to restart the phone, then the problem disappears but happens again after some time:
http://www.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc...starts-often-unable-to-detect-sim-card-error/
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/297925-sim-card-not-detected-error.html
I also had this problem, after checking the SIM card every time I found out that the SIM slot on the DHD seems to be a bit too loose. I am not sure if it's related to the DHD itself or some SIM cards are a bit thinner than others.
Anyways, since every time I faced the issue I found my SIM card to be slipped out from the slot by about 0.5mm, I decided to cover the SIM with special 3M plastic tape. Check my attached pictures for detailed guide:
If anyone's having the issue, it would be appreciated to find out if this prove to fix the problem for them as well. For me, I did not have the problem since I have done the trick (more than 2 months now). Make sure you cover both sides of the SIM card to prevent it from detaching when inserting (not overlapping the contacts of course), and insert the card very carefully not to damage the SIM slot.
Hope this helps for some
Glad to see no one had the problem lately
I have the problem since december. Till some days ago it didn't happen that often.. I'm gonna try it!
thanks
I'd really love for this to be a sticky, because it's damn useful! It worked with good old sellotape too! You just gotta be careful not to cover the contacts on the sim card, but the narrower tapes should be good enough!
Thank you!
Thank you to the OP!!
I was searching all over the net for a solution and finally brought it into a repair shop.
They replaced the sim holder. For a week or so it worked but the problem returned. Finally I decided to search the net, stumbling upon this thread. After taking normal, desk tape and wrapping it around the sim (not on the chip itself), I wedged it in and its been weeks without the problem!!
Thanks again.
There's a small piece of paper exactly same size as sim behind mine and hasn't happened since tweaked.
@ Springdale - many thanks for this top tip!!
I have been getting this "SIM card not detected" message recently, was thinking my phone was seriously malfunctioning. I tried you trick tonight, hopefully the problem is solved!
thanks again mate

This is just brilliant m8 , i fixed the Desire HD in a matter of seconds.
Super fix, hats off to you
I dropped my DHD recently and think it may have loosened up the sim card slot as I have been getting that message constantly over the last few days.
Just cut a thin bit of card though and popped it in beside the sim and was a much tighter fit so fingers crossed it's solved the probelm.
Many thanks for the tip
I am so happy that many of you found my thread helpful I'm glad I could help.
It worked for me as well!

The buyer of a phone I sold inserted a micro/mini SIM card, extracted it, and must have widened the gap, and a sliver of paper fixed it!!!!

thanks a lot dude.
It solved my problem.
I thought "No Sim Card" error was because I flashed a new ROM.
But as you said I put plastic tape on the Sim Card and it made the trick.
Damn, man. You give second life for my DHD
<3
Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm going to go try this out too!
im using clear tape so maybe this is why.. but it not working
