linux is booting, now what? - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi all (again)...
I've successfully booted linux on the xda using linexec. linexec is basically a pocketpc app which acts like a "bootloader". It's originally written for xscale/iPAQ H1900 series, and I ported it back to strongarm a bit. Kind of an exciting moment when I saw the kernel booting and working.
I've built a pretty minimal kernel base on the config for the iPAQ 36/3800 series. It currently boots, using a initrd image as root, giving me a serial console, with a shell. The screen isn't working yet (as expected) with both the 36 and 3800 screen support.
Now I'm wondering, for those who's been poking the xda, how much technical information have we found out with the xda so far? (ASIC, GPIO, etc?)
For example, there's this page i found that someone has maybe started on some work in the linux kernel to support the xda. How is that going? (Is Job de Haas actually around here in this forum, btw? How is the bootloader going?)
Right now I'm basically poking around the xda under linux, trying to find out more about, playing with /dev/mem and stuff. I'm quite sure there're people here who can do this kind of hardware poking much better than I do (I'm pretty much a software engineer only).
Any input/directions/suggestions/plan will be good.
Pigeon.

Some very tiny progress on getting the screen working here...

Screen is working almost perfectly...

Excellent Work!
I love Linux. Getting it to work on the XDA will be fantastic. I dinked around with the iPaq version from http://handhelds.org
Keep up the good work. Perhaps I can lend a hand, although, I too, am more of a software person. But I like getting my hands dirty. Maybe you can start a project on sourceforge???

linux on xda: please start a mailing-list
I think it would be the best to start a mailing list.
Therefore all people who are interested in linux on xda can be informed about new stuff.
It will help to find people with specific knowledge, whith a small mailing-entry.

Seems, that the sources for this project are in sourceforge
Here is the Link ...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xanadux/
who is able to start or continue the job.
I am also willing to help, but not familar with linux at all.

Right now linux on xda is nowhere near done.
Current status in short: linux is booting, got a serial console, lcd screen is working but not blanking and backlight, no touchscreen yet either. Internal flash seems to be detected properly. That's about it.
I myself now is busy trying to understand the xda bootloader code itself. I know there are a couple of other people who have been doing the same thing to both the bootloader and the radio stack.
Let's hope we'll get more and more stuff going

How to help? Where to coordinate the activities?
It seems, that you personaly got it to run! Perfect!
So probably there is starting point for beginners to start and come to the same application level as you are with your project. Than whe can start to help you by your work and the just open jobs .... (Project-Page in Web with documentations, OpenTodo's, Mailing-List, FAQ, CVS and so on).
This would help to cordinate the activities !
Perhaps, if there is such Project-Page, people with knowledge about the open topics can be found much easier.
I am also willing to help, but don't know where to start.

Java/Bluetooth errors.

Help.
I've been searching all over for a handle on this one and have been singularly unsuccessful.
Initially, I encountered this error when trying to install GPSGate. I couldn't get any version to install and the Java version threw the following error -
... cannont be installed because the permission javax.microedition.io.connector.bluetooth.client is not available on this device. -58 Please contact your operator for more information.

Dis-heartened, but not yet suicidal, I took this setback like a man and promptly went out and bought a cat to kick.
I have now encountered the same error whilst messing about with Bluetooth Remote Control v.3.0 and consequently, the cat is looking worried.
Is there a way round this problem or is there some problem with the way Java support for BlueTooth is implemented on the Excalibur?
I'm using Ricky's V.23 with Opera.

i dont think you wanna mess with him...he looks like hes all business.
Now that's funny.
Not terribly helpful, but undeniably funny.
oh, you must not know me.
im useless.
sorry if i got your hopes up.
Okay.
It appears that the Bluetooth API, JSR-82, isn't implemented in Java for Windows Mobile devices - hence the problems I've been having. This also explains some problems other users have had with apps. such as Bluetooth Hack etc.
So: although Java is a cross-platform language, a big bit of the dictionary is missing for us.
Choked.
Anybody who knows more about Java than me, (and that's everybody), managed to splice the missing bits in? Knows of a version we can work with? A work-around?
I have heard a rumour that Esmertec are working on a new version for Windows Mobile but no firm information, so that's probably wrong aswell.
Very sad.
Sniff.
Some input or the cat gets it ...
... right.
So you all know how to implement JSR-82 into Esmertec on the Dash/Excalibur but have decided that, for my own good and a bloody-good laugh, to keep this information from me.
Okay. That's fair enough.
I would probably only do something silly with it anyway.
So I say to you, arbiters of all things known, how do I make the non-Java versions of GPSGate and something akin to Bluetooth Remote Control work on my Dash/Excal?
In case you think you can leave me twisting in the wind whilst you snigger up your sleaves, I leave you with the following equation -
x+y+a=z
Where x = A bloke
y = A cat
and a = A new roll of Gaffer tape.
What is z?
Think about it and see how you can help me, and the cat, in our hour of need.
I thank you.
So you won't talk eh?
Okay.
You leave me no choice but to answer the above equation by way of demonstration.
If you're squeemish, look away now.
In the equation; z=
It's no good belly-aching now, this is your fault. You made me do it. I didn't want to. Oh no! This is on your head. Hang that head in shame at your craven lack of concern for a fellow creature ...
hahahah.

Mobile Webbs

I've converted a PC screen saver I wrote to the HD. It should actually work on any device, though... It's called MobileWebbs, and it is a flowing design of lines that seem to curve around each other, although they are all actually straight. I've attached a zip file with the executable, the Formlib.dll and the Basic4PPC source code that makes it work. I've also included some screen shots, but I had to use a timer to get them, and it seems its difficult to get a snapshot of a design as it completes before the next one starts, but you can get the gist.
Notes:
1) To end the program, just tap the screen anywhere and it will stop.
2) If you use a program like Gyrator2 to auto change the orientation of the screen, don't change the orientation once MobileWebbs is running. This causes it to freak out. You can start MobileWebbs in any orientation you wish, just don't change it once it starts running.

Edit: 1/5/09 - Added cab file -- sorry everyone, the program that made the cab file didn't allow much flexability such as ability to install to storage card, or program icons, or even a proper program name, but it's still exciting to watch it do it's magic!!!
Nice Jessew! Does this mean you bought an HD?

YES IT DOES!!! I still have a polaris that I'll use for 3d tethering, since I live in the US, and 3g doesn't work on hd's. But yet, I have one, and really like it. A lot!!!
Hey, you should try my MobileWebbs.. it's mesmirizing! And everyone you show it to will be in awe. Just don't change the orientation, tho.. It doesn't like that. But you can start it any way you like, just don't change it once it's running.
Later friend...
Jesse
Will do. By the way, did you see my graphics improvement thread in Blackstone development thread? I'm trying to get a similar project running as we did with the P3D team, but for the Blackstone. B3D, lol.

No, I didn't notice. But I will. I'm shutting down for the day now. I have to drive 800 miles to get back home and will take a peek sunday night. I was actually quite impressed with the speed of the graphics thus far. Gyrator2 takes only a moment to redraw after re-orientating, and all in all, the device seems quite faster. I'll be waiting to see what you can improve
btw... if you get a sec, would you make a cab for MobileWebbs? That stuff seems to be second nature for you, and it'd take me an hour or two to get it figured out. Well, gotta run. Hope you're doing well
Jesse
I'll have a look once I get home. Good to see some Polaris users coming to the HD.
Sorry everyone, I forgot to upload the zip file. It's been uploaded in the first post
Thanx for MobileWebbs! Works great!
moved thread into applications
Hello all, as promised, but a bit late I admit, I've uploaded a .cab file for MobileWebbs in the first post. I hope everyone enjoys it, I get all kinds of oooh's and aaah's when I show it off on my HD
Cheers! --Jesse
Nicely done SomethingWicked, looks great on my HD! Thanks!

[Closed] Open WiFi Finder - Call for Beta Testers

It is a .NET 3.5/OpenNETCF application that tries to locate open WiFi Access points. It does so by repeatedly trying to connect to the most powerful AP and ping a well known address for reply.
I am planning to sell this app on the Marketplace for a small fee, but before doing so, I would like to gain more confidence by testing it to more devices. I only own two rather old HTCs and it seems to work fine. Yet, I suspect that it behaves very differently with the various wireless adapters out there.
So please, If you like to help me with this, PM me with your email/device model so I can send you the cab to try it. It only supports Touch Screen devices with QVGA/WQVGA/VGA/WVGA. Of course, all selected beta testers will get the final cab free of charge..!
EDIT: I now have enough people willing to try it. I will let you know if I want some more. Thanks again everybody.
EDIT2: Link for download is here:
http://marketplace.windowsphone.com/details.aspx?appId=09c5dae9-3800-45d3-aaea-6ef7b54df2df
ok i am about to pm you. i am way excited to test this app.
sign me up pls
Ill give it a wirl for you
Guys, pm me your details please! Otherwise I don't have a way to contact you!

[REQ] Sense To Do (tasks) list manager

Hy all.
I and probably meni other users are not happy abaut task manager build in Windows Mobile. It's way to hidden!
Task list shoud be visible from home screen. This is the only way I can see what I have to do in comming days.
Sou I made user interface for this app.
It looks like this:

wow...amazing work....have u made it?
I just put some Sense graphic's together and this came out.
Now we need some developer's to make the hard part, and that is modifying the Sens files.
I'm hoping Co0kieMonster could taka a look at this.
BUMP....Great idea!!!
looks awesome. I wonder how much of this is covered by ptasks.
A manila tab would definetly be awesome but not neccessary for me
I tried ptasks... and gave up, it was too slow for regular uses..
...maybe you give "mvcal" a try (www.portablepim.de)
hence the website is in german, the software will be english after installation. If you prefer german, you can switch to it in options->languages)
or you download directly from here
It cannot only manage the appointment, it also handles the tasks in a fingerfriendly manner and combines it with appointments.
Very interesting, this is the function that lacks to sense. it would be nice to share it ou explain how to made it.
thanks
bump!!! I like this!!
Marty
Really interested too.
Would love to have something like this.
Its an amazin idea..it mus be not so hard for the great Developers here on Xda..
Plz sum1 mak this possible..after making the Call History tabs this one is next!
bump bump bump
Look at here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=659089
Not exactly a new tab, however for sure tasks integrated in Sense
yep, i'm using AHT already, it works..
the thread starters "design" just have more eyecandy... i also looking forward to the day, when a friendly dev will make one

Yep this is just the kind of thing which could be done using the same methods I've used. The whole concept is to remove the difficult sense side and provide a simple way to populate a tab.
If a developer is interested in doing the TodoUtil program (.net side) I can probably provide a shell of the Sense RSSTab which by design is supposed to be generic enough to be populated with any kind of list data.
There are still features I've not yet built into the Sense tab (long press selection, left-hand icon selection, notifications), but as I develop the RSSTab the idea is I can expand what it is able to do.
Even as it currently stands, I don't think there is much that would need to change to get a simple To-Do tab.

Help with my Android based kitchen robot Chefbot Touch

Hi,
I'm pretty new here and need some help/opinions on how to upgrade my kitchen robot running Android 7.0. I have recently bought IKOHS chefbot touch and it's a great machine apart from the recepy book is very low on recipes and the company is not updating them quick enough. So, I decided to look into possibly upgrading the recipe book/making my own new recipec and uploading them to the device. I have found two usb's on the bottom under small cover and one of them is to connect with the pc which I did. It only showes as removable storage but no folders. I have also found that if you click on the serial number on the screen in the about section, it comes up with system setting asking for password (I would imagine is to get into developer options) and of course I don't know the password. It's 8 characters minimum. So my question is, can I root this device to access the files and how? Also, is there any way to bypass the password and get to the system settings as I will need the usb debugging enabled I guess. I have attached some pictures. I don't know where to start with this and any help would be appreciated.

I wait some answer too. I want to add muy propierty recetes
I follow the discussion! Could be usefull customize the recype book!
Me too interesting..
. If some expert...
Following. My other annoyance with this product is it was originally advertised that you could use the screen for internet browsing and YouTube etc but there is no option to do this.
Touch screen SoftTouch ScreenTouchScreen full color touch screen, you will see the pre-installed recipes, play multimedia content and follow all the steps without missing anything.
Hi, I am in the same situation, anyone can help us? we need to see where is the receipts saved.
I have bought a kitchen robot from the TAURUS brand, the "Trending Cooking" model. It is exactly the same in this model and the recipes are the same. I put some photos. I am also waiting to find a solution to be able to put my own recipes via USB. Greetings
Incredible. I just found another brand of the same kitchen robot: SOGO. I put the link. Will anyone find a solution to put recipes? https://sogo.es/product-detail.aspx?id=1267
But how many brands are there of the same model? I have found two more. Locating the manufacturer is going to be more complicated than I expected.
https://robotcuiseur.naturamix.fr/
https://kuken.es/producto/robot-de-cocina-easychef-touch/
Hi all, I have an update on this matter. I still wasn't able to access the recipe book but have made small progress this morning by accident lol. I have managed to access the android menu and allow usb debugging. To do this, you have to tap on "Website" several times and straight after that quickly tap on "SN". This will open the android settings. I didn't try anything else yet as no time to research what I can do next but maybe somebody here who can take it from here? I'm thinking maybe to install android GUI? So can swap between the mixer gui and android and be able install different apps install and access file manager? Anybody who can help here? Any help would be much appreciated.
Btw, if you tap several times on "serial number" line, it will open a promt for password to open some OldTest and the password is 12345678, who would though about that haha
Thanks
