wooooowwwww!
Peter,
This is the fastest response i have ever seen in my life. I requested this layout less than a week ago!!!.
What can I say ... the team here is a perfect model for many 'said to be' great companies like M$
I didn't check the new layout yet to comment .. just wanted thank you first.

Just did, using WAP. The start page loads fine, but whenever I want to change into a specific forum area, PocketIE just says "the page you requested is too big". Anything I can do about that?
Cheers
Daniel

i'd like to know why they cant make .cab files downloadble off the net??
like, if i need the update for the msn messenger, WHY cant they just put the CAB file online, so i dont have to go HOME to download and install??????????????????
it WILL work just the same, direct to pda

I never use WAP, so I wouldn't know. I've tested the site browsing from my XDAII.
What it does is override the user's style setting with the 'mobile' style that I made when it detects the string '320x240' in the USER_AGENT string from the browser. This mobile style skips some images and backgrounds, and use a much more vertically oriented layout. All the important pages are made to fit the width of the PcoketPC screen.

So did I, but using the 'wsp://' prefix in PIE. The reason is simply that WAP traffic is free with my O2 flatrate plan, while HTTP costs real money!
Knowing Microsoft, the maximum page size should be somewhere in registry. I'll try to find it!
Anyway, many thanks for providing the "narrow" layout! Excellent work!
Cheers
Daniel

used it on my xda works very nicely nice job 8)

Just tested it here......seems okay so far....nice job!

Thumbs up!
Mate, that looks excellent. I just sit here melting in the Aussie summer... Only disadvantage are my slippery fingers

Dont follow the directions you find with google (using the promo code DFPRESS) just sign up for MS beta's with your live account and then put those same details into the deepfish download section. I got a code first time and second time(2 pda's). No i wont give one to you. I dont know what all the fuss is anyway. Its not that good.

Yeah, I just signed up again today and got an activation code about an hour ago. So, I'm sure they're giving them out pretty liberally. But I'm with you, I'm not a huge fan of it (so far). It is somewhat difficult and clumsy to use. But hey, it is in it's earliest beta stages, so I'm sure it'll better later on.
dont waste your time with deepfish ...
"As a technology preview, Deepfish is early in its development cycle (still a few releases from beta quality). As a result some features are not implemented or are only partially implemented. Currently, the technology preview does not support ActiveX controls, AJAX, cookies, Javascript, and HTTP POST."
Its crap if u dont have all those "standard" features that a browser should have...
No java? no activeX? no cookies? Then it obviously is worthless
i just tried it. i get more stuffs done using PIE or opera mobile!

Thank you, I have been dealing with palm and pocket pc for a long, long time. My first PDA was a Pilot 1000. I have been lurking in this forum for a long time. I have learned a lot in my years from this forum and others. I am a beta tester for a few well known software’s. So please don't let my post count make a fool out of you.

The internet is courage juice to some people. I think the ones that are most unnecessarily sarcastic on here, are probably the ones who used to get slapped upside the head by bullies all thru their high school years, and now have found a channel thru xda to vent their anger loll!

Tried this didn't like it. You have to use Microsoft proxie which means they are watching you

Sadly that promo hasn't worked for me on any of the 5 accounts I registered for most of which were done yesterday afternoon when that was posted.
Thanks though for the assist and I'll have to sit tight for a bit until they release further codes to test with.

Windows Mobile Live Search on Today

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to redirect the WM Live Search bar on the today screen to search using Google or any other site OTHER than the WM Live search.
Would the require a registry edit...?
Thought it would be more handy for me to use a different search engine on the today screen other than the WM Live one. Sorry if this has been posted up already but I searched and had no luck.
I'm using Faria's Custom V1 Rom with WM6 by the way.
Thank you in advance!

lol sure did, we must all be in a good mood today. I'm not one for flamming, as I've been a stupid noob before, and sadly searching isn't an ingrained behavior in this generation. I know my kids are going to be googling before they can even speak, but that's not the case atm.
Try my change which is also listed in that wiki entry. It will allow you to have spaces in the search term.
Any way to change it to YouTube?

Can you please help? I keep getting a pop-up warning (with this and the original search string) that "There is no application associated with {search string}. Run the application first then open this file from within the application. (where Search string is as defined in reg plus text that is being searched for.
Can you help? I have tried opening this search string from within PIE and it works quite OK. But that does not solve the problem.
EDIT: I HAD SOME OTHER PROBLEMS AND DECIDED TO HARD-RESET. ISSUE SOLVED SO I GUESS I HAD SOMEHOW CORRUPTED THE REGISTRY. I SUSPECT THAT UNINSTALLING OPERA CAUSED THE PROBLEM.

Manila Database for Developers

Hi guys,
I think we should make a 'database', e.g. an excel table or something else, in which we add alle the 1234567_manila-Files and what they are standing for (friendly file name like "HTC\Asset\Images\background.qtc") and maybe some keywords in an extra column like "home, background", etc.
I think this would make it much easier to work with the manila-files, because I always forgot what a file was standing for after a few days
Greets,
Sascha
I have only just started getting into editing Manila but I certainly agree that it's a good idea. As I'm still only at the beginning, I can contribute serverhostspace for the DB and I'll hopefully be able to contribute with actual content later on.
If someone has a ready script for an MDB or an SQL or whatever else I am ready to host it and make it interactive to receive input from anyone who discovers something new
Nice suggestion and worthy
That a work for all of us.
i agree on this, ill whip up a simple website that people can input details about each file in a gridview.
ill post a link hopefully tomorrow

Yes, using the WIKI here as the primary site and you can always put it somewhere else as a mirror.

(Requests/Suggestions) A Mobile Site for XDA plus some other improvements

I tried to surf this website on my browser on the mytouch 3g and realized that it is a pain the the @$$ to surf. I was wondering if there can be a mobile site.
- You can easily log into your account to access User CP and check your messages.
-Search for Threads and/or Add New Threads feature
-You can pick between Mobile or Desktop View
Also there are some other things that I feel could be better.
-When someone quotes you, you can get an email notification telling you. This way people don't have to subscribe to every thread they put a post to see if people respond to your post.
-A Google Chrome Plug-In like you can see your Account Status easier or search for forums from the URL Bar.
If anyone else has any issues that they want to be fixed please post them I'm pretty sure a Mod or Admin is going to see this thread.
I'm not sure if this has been proposed before but if it has please direct me to the thread and/or lock this thread. I really don't want to be banned or suspended. I searched but could find anything.
This probably would have been best to post in the sticky called (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins. However, I at least have an answer one of your questions, the mobile site one. Somebody on the boards (ktemkin) made a mobile site for XDA-Developers, which is can be accessed by going to http://xda-developers.mobi. It's not the prettiest site and it doesn't have full functionality, but it gets the job done better than any other solution out there at the moment. Hope that helps
Did not know about this. Like u said it's not pretty, but it's the best we have right now.
But vBulletin comes with built-in pda display -- no one ever sees this because it's obscure in the top-left menu on the homepage:
PDA layout

meh, that's just the standard Vbulletin Archive View, branded as a PDA layout. It's better than the standard view when on a mobile browser, but xda-developers.mobi renders things much better IMO. View the forum with your Hero's browser using each one, and I'm pretty sure you'll prefer xda-developers.mobi over the archive view. As I said, neither are perfect solutions, and a dedicated client (like the now halted XDApp) would be best, but both can get the job done to a degree.

XDA Wiki access problem

Hey guys... I hope some Admin will have the chance to look at this:
Every time I try to access the XDA wiki, I'm seeing an empty page... which is a crying shame from my point of view... This happens both when viewing from work as well as viewing from home... even when viewing it on my mobile this happens! I'm connecting to the world from The Netherlands... which has possibly the best IX connectivity in the world... but the wiki is unreachable
Who else has this issue? What can I do to fix my access?

Can you try now? The issue is that the [ and ] in your username are restricted characters in MediaWiki but not vBulletin. I've written a patch that should fix this by setting you a username based on your user ID, so please check to make sure this does work for you.

Yeah since [ and ] are restricted characters it kind of messes up the integration. I was just going to convert them to _ but in case someone registers that name on XDA (like _NUT_) we just use the userid in that case. So it is a bit confusing but should at least get you access!
