Solution for Navman GPS - General Accessories

Please get the file http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth/EnableCharPin.zip
- Copy the file EnableCharPin.exe to you PDA
- Start the bonding dialog until you get the password screen
- Now launch the explorer and start the executable (you will get a small message)
- Get back to the password screen (if you don't find it click on the BT icon in the today screen)
- Characters are now enabled
To Gary: I replied to your mail but I get the following error: The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain Name Service (DNS). Please let me know if this solution works for you.

i need your help with the bt patch
Hi,
I have downloaded the file from
http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth/EnableCharPin.zip
and looked for the exe file, to run in my xda2.
The exe is a PC installer (didn't work in my xda - not a valid win32 app...)
I finished the installtion process, and now in my add / remove programs i have "Bluetooth Character Password Enabler".
But when i'm trying to bond with my Navman,
still only numbers can be entered.
Any idea?
(maybe someone have the EXE to run on my ppc, not the installer?)
Thanks in advance,
Tomer

This is a bit unclear, I used towa´s patch like said earlier, followed exactly the instructions and could enable the charpin, and enable my navman
just download and COPY the patch to your xda true activ sync or whatever, and the start the bonding procedure, and when the screen for the pasword comes up, you lanch the explorer on your xda look for the charenable pin, click on it, it will give the message charpin now enabled, close the explorer and type in NAVMAN in big font, and it works perfect.
let us know if you got it to work

Thanks for you quick response.
I tried to do the process as explained:
copyed the file EnableCharPin.exe into my ppc
(via active sync), turned on my navman,
start BT, look for devices, found the navman gps one, next,
and now when the password screen appears i went to "my documents", clicked on the file, and than the error message 'EnableCharPin' is not a valid Pocket PC application" appears.
Any idea?
I saw a post in the forum about registry key or hack, to enable it,
whithout further information.
Thanks,
Tomer

Problem with EnableCharPin
The work that has gone into tying to solve the issue is impressive.
Unfortunately I have the same experience with the response 'EnableCharPin' is not a valid Pocket PC application'
Does anyone have a way to accomplish inputting alpha characters via changes in the registry?
ROM 1.52.00WWE date 10/23/03

I have NAVMAN GPS and have the same error. Can anyone explain how is it possible that one can run Windows installer on XDA??
I have just installed this WIDCOMM BT manager. This thing at least is not asking for any pincode so I can easily establish the connection but later on i am not getting any data on the port. I am using ArcPad application by ESRI and I am supposed to use port 8 for GPS.
Can anyone tell me why there is no data comming thru the port?
Another problem is that the connection is lost after few minutes...

it works 4 me now
I did hard reset (upgraded my os / radio to 1.66.00 , 1.10.00)
disabled multilingual support,
installed the exe (FROM MY PC, NOT FROM THE DEVICE ITSELF),
and it solved the problem.
In the pairing process I managed to write NAVMAN (capital letters!),
without any problem
I hope it helps...

Re: it works 4 me now
Hey Tomer !
Thanks for your tip. I have had problems with the connection, but I used your tip, and now it works perfect.

Navman bonding
I dont have a problem getting the XDA II to bond with it, the problem I have is I can only select Com 7 in the Bluetooth tools menu and when I go to set up the GPS in Smartst it wont let me select Com 7.
Anyone have any ideas

I have a XDA and a Navmann 4100. A couple of weeks ago my Navmann dealer sent me the patch EnableCharPin & BTHTools1012 and I started the bond between the PPC and the 4100 and all went fine but a couple of days ago I suffered and full reset on the ppc and now I can not bond the ppc and the 4100 anymore.
Can someone tell what shall I do to bond once again the ppc and the 4100?
I have tried several times with the same process as before (EnableCharPin & BTHTools1012) but I had no succes, the ppc does not allow me to write Navmann, it only lets me write numbers.

I had this same problem when I had to do a hard reset with mine couldnt get it to rebond. The only way I managed it was to re install the character enable program. It seems to be specific on which order you do it unfortunately I cant remember what it was. I had to try it a few times myself for it to work.

The way I have managed to do it in the past is to make sure the PPC device is connected to your PC via active synch when you attempt to enter the characters (NAVMAN) That seems to in some way enable the enablecharaterpin software on the PPC. Let me know how you get on.

probably the wrong place to ask but could that be used with the palm os ? ie charpin .exe

Hi Rudey
Hard to say... I believe that a guy called towa wrote this for PPC, but if you look up his user name here and e-mail or PM him he might know
Hope that helps

1.40.00 Asian WWE O2 ROM GPRS Glitch

I found a glitch I've been trying to work around. I use an XDA IIs from O2 with the current Asian WWE O2 ROM in English ;-). Well if I connect to GPRS and use the internet for whatever amount of time I need it for, and disconnect, connect again, and disconnect, it will eventually freeze up the connection when I try to connect again. Either way after like 3 GPRS usages I must softreset in order to connect to GPRS, anyone have this same problem? I would like WM5 but I've upgrade and downgraded 4 times, its just not for my phone, its too slow even with overclocking.
i had the same problem~
and found this as the solution from somewhere in the search

Here is a step by step instruction:
1. Download the older version of caller-id from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
and transfer it over to your device. Any directory is OK. I used ActiveSync to put it into the My Documents folder.
2. Remove the file IA_CD-Startup.exe from \Windows\Startup on your device.
3. Rename iacontacts.dll to something else (e.g. old-iacontacts.dll). This file is in the \Windows directory of your device but is hidden. However you can rename it using your PC. Open Windows explorer, and navigate to Mobile Device>My PocketPC>Windows.
4. Rename displayCID.dll to something else (e.g. old-displayCID.dll). Access it via your PC the same as for the previous step.
5. Soft reset
6. Run the CAB file on the device - just tap on it.
7. Soft reset.
That should do it.

Hi there,
I posted a problem today that doesn't sound quite like the one above.. but maybe it is... please read my post (don't want to make a mess by posting here too) and let me know if you think the caller id could the issue.
Thanks.

Hi there,
following my reply on the other thread, I found this one & followed the instructions. Since then I can always connect & disconnect GPRS and never need to use flight mode to re-activate GPRS

So far... soooo good. Strange that caller id would cause the issue. I also downloaded a "Keep your GPRS connection alive" app from another posting. That may be helping as well. Either way, no headaches thus far.
Thanks!

WM6 & ActiveSync

Hi All.
I have a problem with MS ActiveSync that's driving me mad.
I have Windows 2000 loaded on my work laptop (not my choice but my IT departments) and I'm currently using ActiveSync 4.2 - A couple of weeks ago I loaded one of the latest WM6 roms onto my HTC TYTN with no problems at all - I was very impressed with the basic enhancements and especially the fact that I could at long last recieve a text message notification for voicemail (I'kme easily pleased I know) - So now to my problem.
I tried to connect my TYTN to my laptop to load my BB Connect profile when I got a message that I need to upgrade ActiveSync to 4.5 ???? So, not concerned at this point I download the latest MSI package and started to install ActiveSync 4.5 on my Windows 2000 system... but.... towards the end of the install I got an error message telling me that I cant install ActiveSync because I am missing some DLL files (it doesnt specify which .dll files???)
I've searched everywhere for help resolving this problem but to know avail? So I have 3 questions?
1. Is there a known issue with ActiveSync 4.5 and Windows 2000? If so is there a fix for this?
2. Is there a viable alternative to MS ActiveSync that will work with WM6?
3. Is there a way of Syncing my BB Connect settings with my TYTN without using AciveSync.
Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere on the forum - any help at all would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks.
One quick google search has given me this post. Give that a go and see what happens?
MAPI32.dll issue...
My wife had a similar issue which was either the mapi32.dll problem or just a fubar ActiveSync. I ran the fixmapi as well as removed most if not all traces of the old ActiveSync (Program Files and registry)
Hope this helps...
FixMapi
Thanks DBaser and MrVanx - I've already tried the FixMapi option but with no success - will try again followed by a sweep to remove any traces of a previous ActiveSync install before re-installing - I'll let you know how I get on.
Sigh....
OK - Tried running FixMapi.exe once again having completely uninstalled ActiveSync 4.2 and deleted the directories from the programmes directory and still I get the same error message? HHEEEeeeeelllppppp.....!!!!! This is driving me mad.... How about just getting the BB Connect settings accross to my TYTN without having ActiveSync installed???? Any Idea's?
Have you tried reinstalling the ActiveSync that came with your PDa and then run the 4.5 installer?
Give that a go...
VM6 requires Active Sync 4.5
Tried all of the above - still no joy!
Can you post a screenshot of the error message and also maybe check the Event Viewer (Start>Run>eventvwr) for Application or System errors that could help me diagnose further?

I am aware of this. I was asking the OP to install earlier ActiveSync and then run the 4.5 installer.
try hard resetting....then before doing ANYTHING, sync...follow the sync directions....make sure a new device name is synced with pc and device.......many go-arounds were finally solved by this.

rockky, go back and reread the thread. THis has nothing do do with the PPC. he is trying to install software on the PC.
Still Trying....
All. Thanks for the input so far - if anyone comes up with any more suggestions then please let me know!
I'll keep at it and if I find a solution will add the details to the post.
My IT dept are pretty snowed under as with those in many companies and so my little problem with a missing dll when trying to install a peice of software that has little or no benefit to the company is way way down the priority list.
Thanks again.
More Pain....
So... a short update.. I managed to convince my IT department to upgrade my system to windows XP (SP1 though as SP2 isnt yet supported by them) and guess what happens????
I eagerly await the arival of my new laptop - I get it today - boot it up - go straight to the microsoft website - download the activesync msi file..... hit the install button - and then..... and then I get the missing dll file error...
This is driving me mad? I'm presuming its a 'corporate' image problem or a specific peice of software installed on our laptops thats the issue? Are others having the same problem? and is there anyone out there who has found a working solution? or am I going to have to wait for another release from microsoft and hope that installs?
Alternatively - is there a way of setting up my blackberry connect settings without using active sync??? Can they be exported some other way? from tytn to tytn for example (Yes - I'm lucky enough to have two!)
As ever - any help is appreciated.....

unable to update hx4700 2003 - MW6 using Bootloader!

I've read good reviews on chrismrulz's bootlaoder programe and I'm trying to use it to update my iPAQ 4700 from 2003 to WM6. However I am obviously doing something wrong as I just cannot get it to work!
Please can anyone offer any advice?
I hope I am following the exact instructions as mentioned here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325727
and here is what is happening:
Step 1.
Make new folder in root directory.
No Problem c:\Bootloader set up.
Step 2.
Download WM6 ROM and bootloader into file.
Done as directed from links in instructions directly into new folder.
Checked and c:\Bootloader now has 2 files in it Bootloader.exe and WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar
Step 3.
Put hx4700 in bootloader mode and place in sync cradle.
I assume I have done this correctly. Screen goes blank and you can just make out the HP logo it says USB when in cradle and shows version 1.01
Step 4.
Open bootloader and select image.
Ok I go to folder and double click on Bootloader.exe
I get a security warning about the software and ignor by pressing run.
2 things now happen simutaniously. Bootloader.exe expands and creates c:\Bootloader\Bootloader and fills it with more files and directories and....
I get a box asking me to select a file to flash ROM to my device. I change the directory back to C:\Bootloader and select WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar and press open.
I get a message telling me to please wait the file is being extracted and inviting me to press ok. Before I can press ok the box is replaced with a winRAR Diagonistic Message saying c:\Bootloader\WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar no files to extract.
I close this dialog box and get another message telling me to wait whilst it edits files. Then this in turn is replaced by a message saying Error reading file c:\Bootloader\Bootloader\temp_nbf\ I click on OK to acknowledge.
And that’s it nothing else happens.
I've obviously read the instructions wrong or something can anyone help point me in the right direction? Or offer any alternatives?
I'm using Active Sync 3.7.1
Thanks
Phil
Open the rar file (with WinRar), and read the instructions that are in the Readme.txt file... And update your Activesync to version 4.5, which is needed for WM6.
Excellent,
Thank you Ridolfo, so much easier than what I was trying to do. I now have WM6 working and am very pleased with it.
One problem i now have is Activesync 4.5 will not work with my Outlook 2002 I dont suppose anyone knows a workaround or do I have to buy a copy of Outlook 2007?

Hi Dirlan,
Thank you for the files. I was already experimenting with Opera so I deleted it from my iPAQ loaded Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed.cab and then reinstalled Opera.
Unfortunately I get an error message from Jbed saying "the file jbed cannot be opened. Either it is not signed or one of its components cannot be found.

After extracting using WinRAR
Trying to upgrade from 2003 to WM6 ...
After extracting WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar using WinRAR I am trying to follow the instructions in the readme.txt (as Bootloader didn't work for me as in the first post in this thread):
From readme.txt
To begin with if you want to flash your device using cradle, you have to:
1.In processes (CTRL+ALT+DEL) you must kill Wcesscom.exe
2.Then Enter in Bootloader (Contacts+iTask+Reset)
3.Put your device on usb cradle.
4.Run mtty11a.exe
5.In "Port" choose \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and click OK
6.Write command: lnb OS_WM6.nb0
7.Wait
8.Enjoy yourself
As I'm not all that familiar with this can someone explain in step-by-step what's involved with the mtty11a.exe application, and Step 6?
Currently my hx4700 is what I think in bootloader mode (Screen is dim an I can barely make out "USB" the hp logo and the current version "v1.01"). I previously tried the original WM5 upgrade and it just dies on me at 0.1%.
Hi tk2000
As I posted the original post I know exactly what you are going through. However once I went through the instructions you are currently trying to use every thing went smoothly. You have extracted the .rar file and are unsure of the mtty11a.exe file.
Assuming you have you have killed Wcesscom.exe on your pc as in step 1,
and the device in in its cradle in bootloader mode (as you described very faint HP logo, USB and version 1.01 displayed).
Then double click on the mtty11a.exe as in step 4. This then brings up an application and you will see a dropdown menu next to port, simply select the option \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and click ok.
6.Write command: lnb OS_WM6.nb0 now this stage I was a little unsure of myself I simply typed "lnb OS_WM6.nb0" in from the keyboard and pressed enter and it started to load. This takes a few minutes but afterwards you should have WM6 on your device.
I had to do a couple of hardware restarts and it took a few minutes in its cradle but it all works fine for me.

Hi Phil,
There should be an 'opera-unsigned*.cab' somewhere here on the forum. I didn't try it because Opera works fine for me.
Sorry

Phil3099, I a followed the instructions exactly but I don't see a status bar on the pda. mtty showes the progress with lines of + but the 4700 stays on the hp logo screen with USB on top.

help for dll

hallo friend, i ve a big problem on my p3300, i have downloaded program much important for my job as FIELD TEST, but on artemis does not works.
so i have read on web more more pages and i understand that the problem is a dll that in p3300 /windows there isnt: rilgsm.dll.
without this dll some port are closed on my htc i suppose com 9 and 6 (network ) so field test doesnt work propely!
can someone explane me how i can solve this problem or i can extract or add this dll.
i have actually italian wm6 official on my p3300 , but i can install also a unofficial rom with rilgsm.dll.
i wait for help as soon as possible
thanks
rilgsm.dll is in the Artemis Touch 4.01 WM6.1 WWE ROM - Lite without cube ROM as well as the other versions (full, vanilla, etc) I suppose.
But, I'm not sure that is the complete answer to your problem. I was trying to run a program which ran fine on my previous PPC using com6 but would not run on my Artemis using com4 (needed to run TomTom). Today, I found a solution here that works. It's called portsplitter. I installed it today and sucessfully used TomTom (requires com4) and the other program (requires com6) as well on the newly created com8! (see the link above to makes sense of that). Maybe what you need?
Here's another link in the Artemis forum discussing this issue.

thanks for answer, maybe can you explane how i can set ports?
i need only field test works , it is only excutable file, no need installation, there isnt configuration to do , is very simple, maybe i can send to ou the file to test.
i wait for help thanks again
pls help me
I don't know how to copy just the rilgsm.dll file you want. It's part of the rom and so access is denied on both the phone and via activesync.
Also, I don't know how to set ports. Did you try the portsplitter application I linked to above? I am using an application on my phone right now that uses port 6 thanks to the portsplitter application. Try it!
Upload your application here or post a link, and I'll see if I can give it a try.
i ve uploaded file here: http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=ZL2OLMS0
please try it, anyway i dont know how to use port spkitter right mode, maybe i wrong to setup it
for it i need help
no one answeres.........
what's up with the (mad) face man? I have been trying to help you. I had a busy weekend and we are in totally different time zones - so relax.
Here, I will spell out very clearly how to use portsplitter...
Artemis settings:
start menu\settings\system tab\external GPS
programs tab...com8
hardware tab...com9/baud 4800
access tab...tick (select) manage GPS automatically
PortSplitter settings:
input: using your keyboard type COM8
baud: select 4800
output: select com6 and press 'add' then press 'start splitter'
the program will then be running in the background
Now go to your fieldtest app and set it to use com6 at 4800 baud. Or, if you know it uses com6 by default, just open it and see if it works.
If it works, you have two options. You can either start portsplitter each time you want to use it. Or, go back to the portsplitter app and tick 'autostart' so a link will be placed in the \windows\startup folder and you won't have to start it manually each time you reboot. It will always just run in the background. (edited to ad...) Actually, selecting 'autostart' only saves your settings so each time you open portsplitter it will run on com8 etc. You need to manually put a shortcut in the windows\startup folder for it to actually start up each time you turn your phone off and back on.
Now, if you use the portsplitter AND any other GPS programs (i.e. TomTom), you'll need to set that program (i.e. TomTom) to use com6.
In TomTom you do this by pressing the lower right hand corner of the screen where the clock and signal strength bars are. On the next screen press the right hand side of the screen where the battery status and signal strength bars are. Now press the lower left corner button called 'configure' and choose 'other NMEA GPS receiver' and press 'select'. Set the baud rate on the next screen for 4800 and press 'done'. Finally, press 'com:6 Port Splitter' and press done!
It works fantastic on my Artemis. I have another GPS program and I set up the GPS communications to use com6 at 4800 and it works like a charm as well. I've set PortSplitter to autostart after each boot, and I haven't given it a thought since. It just works.
I tried to download your app but there is a message that says "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable."
I have fieldtest running on my Artemis right now. It looks like it auto sets itself to refresh every 3 seconds. The right hand side of the screen is called 'GSM' the left is called 'data'. Almost all data fields say N/A except for RSSI and Rx Quality. So, it looks like it runs, but does not work.
Probably due to this:
"fieldtest is not compatible with 9100/Prophet/Artemis. For those devices you need to use GSMTestMode.exe"
However, just in case you might still find this info useful...before trying fieldtest on my phone, I searched what it was about and found the info here. You may have already read it, but if not, there you go. BTW, (if you DID read it) you could have just directed me there to download the program rather than how you did it.
Lastly, I tried the registry edit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> HTC -> EngineerMode -> BuildInEngineeringModeApp = 1
It changed nothing, the program is still mostly full of N/A responses. Also, ran the program from \windows and got the same responses as when I ran it from the memory card.
GSMTestMode.exe exists on my Artemis in the \windows folder.
To use it check this registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> HTC -> EngineerMode -> BuildInEngineeringModeApp = 1
Mine was 0 originally. I changed it to 1 and soft reset the phone. Then, opened the \windows folder and clicked on GSMTestMode.exe and all the info shows up instantly.
That was with portsplitter running in the background. So, I disabled portsplitter, soft reset and clicked on GSMTestMode.exe again - and it worked. Using/not using portsplitter made no difference. I did not check the values reported since I don't care enough. The rest is up to you.
thank you very much runningtiger, your info were very very precious for me, now works all fine.
only 1 problem: after i edit value from 0 to 1 in registry, gsm test mode works fine , but if i reboot artemis or shutdown and restart registry value back 0.
is there any way to solve?
bye and thanks again
This isn't an issue on my phone. I made the registry change using TotalCommander and used the exit command on the menu to close TotalCommander (rather than the X in the upper right hand corner). Then, I soft reset by pressing the reset button with the stylus. When my phone was ready to go again, I opened GSMTestMode.exe used it, closed it, then reset my phone again, used GSMTestMode.exe again and it worked again. So, the registry change sticks on my phone.
Usually the reason registry changes don't stick is not enough time passed before soft-resetting the device. Some registry changes are ready to use immediately, but others take a moment to actually write to the registry and if that process is interrupted then the change isn't actually made.
Three thoughts on your phone...
1) did you wait about a minute after making the registry change before soft-resetting your phone? This allows plenty of time for the change to be actually written to the registry.
2) wait a minute after doing the registry change, then try instead of soft-resetting doing a full power down by holding the power button until you are asked if you for sure want to turn off the phone and then let it sit a minute (off) before starting it up again?
3) can you try using TotalCommander to make the registry change like I described above?

1) did you wait about a minute after making the registry change before soft-resetting your phone? This allows plenty of time for the change to be actually written to the registry.
2) wait a minute after doing the registry change, then try instead of soft-resetting doing a full power down by holding the power button until you are asked if you for sure want to turn off the phone and then let it sit a minute (off) before starting it up again?
3) can you try using TotalCommander to make the registry change like I described above?

I have the exact same problems. I suspect the BTTrayCE error is from installing a version of tomtom that doesnt work on this phone (which i did do).
Any help regarding the bluetooth would be appreciated as mine behaves the same as described above (it basically only gives the option of connecting to bluetooth headphones...)
You will have to do a hard reset. You'll lose all your installed programs and settings.
If you remove the bluetooth drivers from the TomTom CAB you'll be able to install it without messing up the bluetooth (google to find a program to do this).

I got it sorted, did as was said on page 7. You must use total commander.
solution to tt7 bluetooth mess up
no need to hard reset. just rename and delete the following files and soft reset your device. woked for me.
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
ive got the same problem, but i cant find the files. its in device\windows right?? where else might the files be?
Rename the files and replace them with the ones mentioned above. It fixed my problem.

I'm using Total Commander. When I try to rename the file, the file name remains as the original. When I try to delete the file, the screen tells me that it cannot delete the file. I have not installed Tom Tom or anything else. Help?
