XDAII / BT GPS / Towa Patch - General Accessories

I've been having some big problems getting my Fortuna BT-Clipon device to work properly.
I managed to get the TomTom software to see the device after installing the patch from http://bluetooth.i-networx.de. Now the connection is really poor and TomTom cannot find my position on the map.
I've been reading through this forum and I see tons of references to the "TOWA" patch but can find no links to actually download it!
Can anyone help with this one?

That link you posted is the Towa patch.

Oh. .
well, it doesn't seem to have fixed my gps problem.
I find it amazing the amount of things the XDA II cant do.

newb, have you tried using the gps in the open rather than in the car, you may find your windshield has metal inside which will block the gps signal.

Is there a XDA II system version that doesn't need the BT patch ?
I installed TomTom with Bluetooth GPS and it worked straight out of the box. I have not had to download any patches ?
I Have
Microsoft PocketPC Version 4.20.1081 (build 13100)
ROM version: 1.03.00 USA
ROM date: 09/24/03
Radio version: 1.05.12
Protocol version: 1337.12

Fortuna GPSmart works right away out of the box without patch, I am also able to use a bluetooth headset with this.

My citroen C5 has such, I use it(fortune gps) on rear parcel shelf, works fine. If you have poor signal, you have poor signal, no matter how many bt patches you install

XDA IIs Bluetooth Issues-Out of Memory Driver Error!!!

Anyone having issues with the new XDA IIs and its bluetooth? I randomly get bluetooth errors stating, Out of Memory Driver Error, please do a soft reset. Also with the bluetooth on the unit intermitantly turns on even with nothing paired to the device. I have had two units, and they both have done the same thing. If anyone knows of a patch from O2 or a hack, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mikee
I have an xda IIs and have never got any of those errors also never had it just turn on.
What 3rd party software do you have installed? I would think it is a 3rd party app. Hard reset, do not install from any backup and see how it works.
Did that, still have issues. The only third party app I do have installed is spbpocketplus2. But out of the box, if you turn on bluetooth, it has this issue. Its a Weird one indeed. However I am using a Motorola Bluetooth headset. Still if I unpair it, the unit turns on by itself, and comes up with out of memory driver error? What a pain.
I have not seen that error at all on the Xdaiis I own. As far as your BT connection coming on sporadically, try this - goto Bluetooth Settings and within the accessibility tab, where it says "Allow other devices to connect", just select the "Paired devices only option". Also, deselect, if it is selected the "Other devices can discover me" Option.
Just curious... what version of bluetooth do all of you have? ie: version 1.0 build 2200 etc.
My Bluetooth version seems weird to me, especially since it does not match the version I have on my PDA2k, which is strange considering they are pretty much the same darned device. Anyway the XDAiis is 1.0.0 Build 1900.
I did not even try to put the ClubImate btsearch patch on the xdaiis, like I did on my pda2k, due to the difference. The btsearch patch does nothing to help the brunt of the pda2k bluetooth options anyway. And so far, knock on wood, I have not had many issues with BlueTooth on the XDAiis, like I do on the pda2k, using the same exact headset, etc... So, it seems to me that 1.0.0 build 1900 is a bit more stable then the newer Pda2k stack.
Join the club dude.
I also get all these strange bizzare bluetooth errors. I have the BT patch installed (which was released about a month ago on clubimate), and stilll these errors come randomly. I'm not using the BT anymore, I now use only the wired stereo headset that came with my i-mate. no more BT issues for me. BT sucks on the PDA2K, bashes all over clubimate forums)
I get this fairly often as well. Its probably moaning about kernel stack space, but this could mean that another driver has misbehaved previously and eaten stack space (stack recursion anyone!).
Whether or not you suffer from it will depend on what the machine has been up to beforehand. So for instance, someone with no SD card who has WiFi turned off will be less likely to suffer from it than others.
I keep getting another message as well that says that the licence for the bluetooth stack has expired!!!
For the chap who says it works for him, can you post your firmware versions: For the record, mine are:

Well I would not install spb pocket plus. This is the worst written app. and does not like phone edition. Don't think the developer ever tested the app with phone edtion.
Strange I hav a motorola headset as well...no problems like that at all.

I do not have spb pocket plus installed. I had enough trouble with that application with my old imate and will never install it again, hard resets, missing sd cards...
Do you guys have SPB pocket plus installed. It could be the problem using the stacks????

Agreed. Thats sorta where I was going with the question. I believe they released the PDA2k with the newer version, but found it to be a bit more bugged than the previous builds... thus released the IIs with an older stack. I wonder if we could port that stack over to the pda2k, thus semi-fixing some of the BT issues.

THE BT Stack EXPIRATION error and the other BT memory problems
come and go. I had one week of not seeing any of them even once. It
depands on many factors. Never the less, I hope all errors are
fixable (even if HTC seems to be one of the slowest companies in the
world releasing updates). As long as it's rom related it's comforting.
Same problem occasionally on the MDAIII
I got the same error on my MDAIII on checking the software still running in the background (Settings – System – Memory – Running Programs) and it was always Phone Contacts and Album. Ditched them and Bluetooth worked. Only a thought… Hope it helps…
Just so everyone knows .....
Got my XDAIIs through work to test all sorts of brackets, holders and GPS stuff and I was getting these errors with bluetooth headsets and GPS antennas.
Phoned O2 and gave them some grief as it was stopping my testing and they phoned me back a day later saying that it was a bug and it is currently being addressed.
They would NOT give me a timescale for these bluetooth errors being addressed but said the developers are working on it!
...Spence
Bluetooth nightmare
Any one have any update on this?
My M2000 is still giving intermittent Bluetooth Radio out of memory errors when I try to switch BTooth on.
It also refuses to work with my Sony Ericsson Car Kit - HCB-30 - it pairs the first time and then works, but once you take it out of the car and try again on another journey it simply doesn't connect.
Anyone know if there is likely to be a Pocket Bluetooth Tools release for Blue Angel that may fix this??
I also have this error, i find that it's mainly relating to the number of apps open at that time. However saying this i have a few times killed all apps and still recieved the memery error. A soft reset has always restored usage though.

Wow! how was it? Does the bluetooth work already or still buggy?
sorry have not tried the bluetooth headset. it tried though sharing my PC internet connection thru Bluetooth dongle and it works ok. I am now connected thru WIFI (LINKSYS WRT54G) and again it works perfectly.
Really Nice: SKYPE AND MSN MESSENGER on this. AGILE Messenger BETA Version is little bit problematic.
I just hate the sliding keyboard. I had it repaired already at BRIGHTPOINT in Cubao. Very fragile and easily broken (around one week). Now, I dont use it for fear it might break again.
OVERALL, I STILL LIKE IT.
Everything good to hear except the keyboard problem

SKYPE on XDA IIs
Is the SKYPE software pre-installed on your XDA IIs. Wish to know the configuration of the SKYPE software. I have a PDA-2K which is the version released here in Dubai.
Skype
Skype software didnt come pre-installed.
I downloaded it from www.skype.com.
One of the best communication software, I installed in this O2 XDA IIs.
Really works and voice quality is very good.
Got to call skype to skype free of charge.

Hi, how's your xda IIs doing?
still happy with IIs
I am still happy with my IIs despite the bad experiences of others.
It is fairly stable. Mostly instability I experienced is the result of third party freeware that I installed.
I installed a 256 MMC card bought from www.PCX.com.ph at Php1,650. Downloaded MP3 and some pictures of my family. I could play photo slideshows while running MediaPlayer at the background.
Just for curiosity, I tried playing shoutcast from this iis and surprisingly it works also using GS Player (a freeware). I have a DLINK MEDIA Player to do that for me though.
ROM is still stock as I don't want to touch it as it does not give me problems to date.
I updated again the BT to BT3900. Bluetooth works Ok but discovered distance is just around 2-3 feet using Nokia HDW2. Anyway, I find carrying and charging a separate Bluetooth headphones more of a nuisance than real utility.
my iis has the following programs now: skype, agile messenger, avantgo, battery monitor, psshutxp, chess and several other games. All of these programs are downloaded freewares.
I could check all my emails (including yahoo and gmail) thru GPRS when I am out of office or home. Once tried to call thru Skype while in Glorietta and it works well. Made several long distance calls Skype to Skype free of charge. I am sorry I have no idea about VPN, not that sophisticated user.
AgileMobile works fine also. I discovered that I need to properly shutdown it. It was my mistake to close the program using the RUNNING PROGRAMS of Windows. This resulted to AgileMobile not connecting afterwards.
The only functionality I would want to be added is fax program which I miss from my old 9210. I want it but enough enough to buy it (eg. TRUEFAX). Only if free, otherwise, I could live without it.
Again, I rarely open the slide keyboard for fear it might break again. Too much trouble going to Cubao just to have it repaired.
I have never experienced screen drifting.
Battery life is 5 to 6 hours with continuous WIFI usage. I once turned myself into a walking zombie after staring at the tiny screen that long. The WIFI meter does not seem reflective of actual reception because I could still make Skype calls eventhough bars show only 1 or 2 bars.

Thats very good news.
I'm also a 9210 user. I regularly send sms to groups of people and I found that 9210 do this very well. Is there a way or software for xda IIs to assign groups to contacts and to handle failed sms? otherwise, have to add contacts one by one to the "send to" field and no way to identify the particular contact to resend after failed sms.
text sending is a pain compared to 9210
For Filipinos who love texting, XDA might not be a good phone. I am still struggling to send text messages using this IIs whether thru its built in keyboard (I dread opening for fear it might break again), soft keyboard, transcriber or block recognizer. I miss the ease and convenience of sending text thru my old 9210. And the truth is sometimes I wish I got the 9500 because of this reason. It is no exagerration but your writing hand will ache after sending a couple of messages thru this IIs. Those who will argue have not used a Communicator.
In IIs, you can also mark the names of people you want to send the text message just like in the 9210. I don't think IIs recognizes failed text messages. You, however, could tick "REQUEST MESSAGE DELIVERY NOTIFICATION" just like in 9210.
Another important text messaging function which is lacking in IIs (in Windows Mobile) is the text sending "Schedule". In my 9210, at night when I am working, I many times prepare the instructions I will be sending out the next morning. However, I don't send it out immediately realizing other people have their own lives too. So I schedule the sending out of text messages. I know there is a freeware for Windows Mobile but it doesn't work yet.
And also, the best speaker phone I ever used is the 9210, I am sure the 9500 is even better. Great for telephone conferences/meetings. This is not so in IIs.
When the novelty of this IIs wears off completely and I have overcome my "love your own syndrome" , I know I will be getting a 9500. But as of now, I love my new toy - the IIs.
It is now being offered by Smart under Infinity program

T_Mobile MDA III, TomTom 3.03 and Bluetooth headset problems

Hi,
I have problems connecting to my bt headset since I have installed TomTom3. I am running the build3500 bluetooth stack from the 1.06.02 FRA radio. It was working fine without even losing connection with the mda, but after I installed tomtom, it can pair, but cannot connect. The weird thing is that I can sync using bluetooth. I suspect tomtom is keeping busy some of the bt com ports? i noticed that during installation, it required to close bluetooth (cause it said the file BtcoreIf.dll was in use) and as soon as I did that, it finished installation, but since then the headset stopped working. Anyone has similar problems??
Thanks in advance for any input.
Update
Managed to sort it out by upgrading my BT stack to 1.0.0.3900. Still cannot find any similar complaints in any forums. Can it just happen to my MDA III? Who knows....at least it works now, even if my engineering background is not happy with it
Upgrading the bluetooth stack
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem as you had, although I'm on the UK network Vodafone and have an XDA2s.
My current radio version is 1.06.02 but I can't fine what version my bluetooth stack is. How do I upgrade to 1.0.0.3900?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
Hi,
I am using Qtek9090 with TomTom 3.07 and Jabra BT800 headset and have not the problems you people talk about here. I have to mention that I immediately updated my BT version from 2400 to 3900 the same day I purchased the whole stuff. I was - when I was in the shop - told that TomTom 3.07 can sometimes cause problems due to BT version of Qtek (1.0.0.2400) and I better upgrade it to 3500 and/or 3900. I was also told that there were known problems with earlier versions of TomTom wireless (like in your case TomTom 3.03) and that I (at least) had to use TT 3.07 and/or better upgrade the BT driver of my Qtek9090. In order to find your current BT version:
- Click on Bluetooth icon
- Select Bluetooth Settings
- Go to [About] tab
- And there you see your own Build
- You can also select [Advanced] button in [About] for more details
Anyway, once being at home and taking my device out of package I did a BT upgrade to 1.0.0.3900 right away and so far I have no issue with BT stack. Even Jabra BT800 which a lot people complain about works fine with my Qtek9090 (OK, I admit the CallerID at Jabra still not working but I already expected that).
I downloaded the 3900 version of Bluetooth driver (plus another Audio driver) at the following URL in The Netherlands: http://www.pdanieuws.nl/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=37

tomtom gps
The problem is that tomtom is messing around a bit with bluetooth for bt gps receivers.
So after installing tomtom allways reinstall the latest bt drivers.
AFAIK you should always use TTN 3.07 (GPS and Navigator) on SE and Phone Edition devices (Blue Angels is both WM2003SE and Phone Edition)
Big Fat TY
I was getting stupid before reading this 3d.
Even went back to the shop with the motorola headset and had them show me it was working....
Tom Tom was the reason.

all sorted now, have got the files and fixed the issue.

Generic BT GPS & TomTom 5

I have just bought a Generic BlueTooth GPS for use with TomTom 5. I successfully paired the GPS with the XDA IIs, then the problem came of getting tomtom to find it. It will not see it as a Bluetooth GPS so I have to select "Other Cable NMEA GPS", set the baud rate to 38400 and set it to COM 6.
This will work for approx 40mins before TomTom5 crashes. It then takes a soft reboot to get it working again.
Is anyone else having similar problems?
I might have to go back to TomTom3.
My device info:
ROM Version: 1.40.00 WWE (i-mate ROM)
Radio Version: 1.12.00
ExtROM Version: 1.40.176 WWE
Well after struggling with TomTom 5 for the last time, I'm going back to TomTom 3. I believe there is a patch out there to get the TomTom 5 maps to work with 3.
I use my pda2k with tomtom 5.1 and both the Tomtom 3 bluetooth gps and a BT-338 Globalsat GPS Bluetooth Receiver .
In order to get it to work, I have to switch on bluetooth and connect to the gps manually, and then start Tomtom. Occaisonally the gps wont connect or Tomtom just wont detect the gps. I then to a soft reset, try again and it works.
I have not had to do anything clever with the Tomtom settings, in fact I think I just use the Tomtom bluetooth setting for both receivers.
If someone phones me whilst using Tomtom, after the call, tomtom does not detect the gps and I have to quit and restart.
Well I'm back on TomTom 3 now, it's lovely and stable, the BT connect first time everytime and I can make/accept calls on my BT headset.
Perfect!
If only the boys at TomTom had put some effort in and tested 5 before releasing it.
Hello Porkspeare,
can you tell me which version of TomTom 3 you are using and what bluetooth stack? I have the problem that I cannot use my BT headset Bluetrek G2 after installing TomTom 3.01 , even though before the TomTom install it works fine. Would be interesting to know what combination works on your machine.
Thanks
ROM Version: 1.40.00 WWE (i-mate ROM)
BlueTooth Version: 1.0.0 Build 3900
TomTom Version: 3.03 (427)
BT Headset Ver: Blue Trek G2
Hope this helps.
Vavavoom, are you using the very latest bluetooth driver from tomtom for version 3..
tomtom 5 hangs
I have same problem...
The problem goes away if you turn off all POIs
some say copying poi.dat from tomtom3 maps will solve it..
also seen something about a vga registry hack, havent tried any - i have just turned off poi until some solution pops up...
Jan
Hi cruising-thru,
I don't know what you mean by "bluetooth driver for TomTom3" - can you get a seperate update for just the bluetooth driver? The only update I found was for the Navigator (3.07) and GPS (3.07). Unfortunately I can only install the GPS update. If I try to install a Navigator update higher than 3.01 TomTom tells me it cannot find a map even though it's installed and activated. My current combination is therefore Navigator 3.01 and GPS 3.07.
If there is a sperate BT update could you please tell me where to find it?
Thanx
Thanx porkspeare,
I have the same combination except I only managed to install TomTom up to version 3.01. Maybe if I somehow manage to update to 3.03 it solves my problem. Will keep trying
Cheers

Phone app breaks after BT switch off

Every now and again when i make a call it connects fine but the speaker and microphone does not work (which kind of makes call difficult). A soft reset fixes it every time. It seems to happen after i have switched BT off and use the pda wihtou a headset.
I have a standard m2000 orange build with no additional software installed
Also if anyone has any sw upgrade suggestions for the build below pls let me know.
Operator version 5.31.1.124
ROM 1.31.00 WWE
Radio Ver 1.06.02
Protocol 1337.38
Ext ROM 1.31.124 WWE
I have exactly the same problem with ROM 1.40.00 and Bluetooth.... I was informed it was due to SPB Pocket Plus which I use but as you are having the same problem with no additional software I can only guess it is a version of the Bluetooth stack that causes it instead.
I am searching for an answer and will post one here if I get one (Such as a newer stack etc) and will monitor this thread as well to see if anyone else has the answers!
A much easier and faster option is to turn the Bluetooth on and then off, I know it sound bizzare but it does work, as a mater of fact I now use the bluetooth headset on the way to work and on the way home, this "appears" to have stopped the problem - this involves turning BT on / of etc but once I started doing this no more "absent" callers - Mike
This definitely does NOT work for my problem, in fact the switching on then off of Bluetooth is exactly what triggers the problem!
