Odd device (ROM) info - About xda-developers.com

HI
I've had my o2 xda2 since it came out in the UK Nov 2003 and I haven't reflashed the ROM or done any thing like that. I even got O2 to network unlatch it for me. (This was before the unlock tool) I was surprised to see the following device info when i did a soft reset.
ROM version 1.03.00 USA
ROM date 09/24/03
Radio Version 1.05.12
Protocol version 1337.12
the bit that surprised me was USA in the ROM version.
I've been in Toronto since May 04 on Fido has my ROM been upgraded without my knowledge over the air/or when I use my wifi card or is this a really old rom as i got one of the first xda2's that came out in the UK.
Should I upgrade the rom with o2 latest update?? or use a different ROM
The XDA locks up rarely, the only problem is when you go out of signal range (ie on the underground subway) the xda2 sometime can't lock back onto the network and so a soft reset is needed.
I look forward to your pearls of wisdom.

Upgraded from T-Mobile 4.01.00 to ATT A.30.09

So I upgraded to the ATT rom and radio stack to do a comparison from the T-mobile rom and 6.24.01 radio stack.
Impressions are that the ATT rom/radio are as good if not better than my older rom/radio although with the ATT rom i now seem to be always roaming on the cingular network rather than the t-mobile network ???
verified this by reverting to the t-mobile rom (left the att radio stack) and low-and-behold the phone reports that i have a t-mobile signal once again.
is this a problem or nothing to worry about ...
thanks
There is no problem at all. i called t-mobile to ask about this roaming signal thing, and they told me that it is perfecty allright and they will not bill anything extra.
here is something else i found out - T-mobile and Cingular have a agreement, in places where t-Mo does not have their own setup - Cingular is used - so infact even when it says T-Mobile you are actually on the Congular network, it is just the T-MO customized ROM which says that you are on T-MO.
so relax and enjoy a better ROM
lethaleagles is correct. Just before T-Mobile came into the SF Bay Area/and perhaps most of CA, it was announced that T-Mo has signed an agreement with Cingular to lease their lines; however, if I also recall, the data technology is all T-Mo's.
The software of the T-Mo Radio Stack replaces the reporting of the IMEI's current network being Cingular to T-Mobile.
how?
Hi, can I know how you guy upgrade from 4.01 to 30.09? I'm currently stuck at 4.01 with Bootloader 5.17 I only have 128mb MMC Card and Xda Cradle.
So the method I used was the tried and trusted SD flashing method.
I extracted the nbf file from the ATT .exe and burnt it to a 128mb SD card reset the device and accepted the prompt to flash from SD.
Once the ROM was loaded and looked ok I reset the partnership and re-sync'd contacts and calendar, loaded my custom ring tones and theme.
I then copied the radio upgrade files over to the PPC and ran rsupgrade.
Went without hitch and I am very pleased with the end result.
Oh obviously I backed up my data before embarking on this path.
Update the RS
I keep getting the message saying it cannot find the RSugrade file. Can anyone tell me what files and where should I put in the PPC?
Thanks!
Have you guys tried to get a GPRS connection after the upgrade?
If so did it work and is it still working? (somethings tells me its a T-Mobile issue but I thought I ask).
Also can somebody post their Device Information with this new ROM/ radio stack, I'm most interested in what your Protocol version has been changed to!

You need the below files and you put them in your devices windows root folder:
monitor_ul_bs.m0
monitor_ul_bs.map
RSUpgrade.cp64
RSUpgrade.exe
HTH
qman,
yes i got gprs to work after the upgrade - i had to manually create the connections, making sure they were NOT setup to use the ATT proxy. they worked pefectly yesterday, but i just tried them today and no joy  i am putting this down to flakey t-mobile gprs service and will try again later today.
Device Information output:
ROM version: A.30.09 ENG
ROM date: 01/01/04
Radio Version: A.33.02
Protocol Version: 1.3.3
Hi Q - catch up w/me on MSN Messenger...I have protocol 324e4 as well. GPRS seems to be slow on the ATT Network (I also have an ATT SIM). With 4.01.00 and my T-Mo SIM connection was faster - although both attempts are with only the 6.24.01 RS.
Right-on Rey and thanks!
I upgraded my t-mobile xda last night, I didn't however upgrade the radio stack. This is working very well for me. I'm using the 6.24.01 RUU and the latest AT&T Rom. Those of you who are waiting this is the way to do it as you can then always go back to a t-mobile rom.

Glad to hear you got it working!
GPRS has been giving me the fists here in LV (is it ROM, is it the radio stack..upgrade..downgrade..what hell is going on)!
I finally called T-Mobile this morning to see what was going on and they told me that they were having system wide problems, O really!
Anyhow I'm up and running with A.30.09 ENG as you can see by my Sig.

latest o2 update

im am going to update my xda2 but haven't decided on the rom version yet
currently i am on
rom 1.60.00wwe
radio 1.10.00
protocol 1337.18
extrom 1.60.50
it is the O2 XDA2 unlocked and using an orange sim card.
i was just going to get the O2 standard update but now i am on here and am tempted by the new 2003se rom. i still have detailed reading to do b4 upgrading but the questions i haven't found answered while scan reading are.
1.does it matter what bootloader version you have? (i have read conflicting reports about 1.06, how do u find what bootloader u are running?)
2.if i upgrade to the latest O2 rom will i have any additional problems if i then upgrade to WM 2003 SE at a later date.
3.O2 told me if i do the offical upgrade my orange sim wont work in it. I presume this is Bull ****?
i see that Sin and [Krueger]Dr.Stein have produced guides on how to upgrade and zeroextreme has produced an extended rom so it shouldn't be much of a problem following their instructons.
4. has anyone tried all the different varient ? if so did u think 1 was better than the other? have these been compared in another post?
5.i believe a while back there was 1 rom that was considered the official unoffical rom is there a newer 2003 se rom like this?
my main reason for upgrading is i can't send mms messages and i just like being ahead of the game.
after much trawling the net and speaking to orange data support i need to upgrade to the latest O2 Rom. at first i thought this was just orange incompetence but i really have tried a lot of stuff now gprs works fine but mms is a no go.
im off now to continue reading thanks for any responses

rom update

I'am new to all this and was wondering if its worth updating my XDA IIs these are the settings
Rom Version 1.31.00 WWE
Rom date 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.06.00
protocol version 1337.38
ExRpm Version 1.31.139 WWE
Could anyone let me know if there are any benefits, also how easy is it to update, ie can anyone explain in basic terms as I have never done this sort of thing before, also if it all went wrong what would be the worst case senario.
Is there a simple program that does all updates?
Thanks in advance
Hi Popupstands
I upgraded mine a few weeks ago from the O2 ROM like yours to the config detailed below. Have found that this ROM is a bit more stable and has better control over wi fi switching than my old one. still have the same old bluetooth connection problems. You will also have to modify the below EXTENDED ROM to replace the caller ID file with an older version to avoid GPRS disconnect problems...
before you do anything, you should read ALL the INFO at following wiki link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
On a practical note, if you are reasonably happy with the stabilty of your device then the upgrade may not be worth it for you. I believe the official O2 rom update is imminent, so you may want to wait for that..
Hope that helps
Regards
Chris

To which rom should I update my Dutch TMobile MDA pro?

Hi!
I really feel like a newbie when i read all the posts about all the different rom versions, so can someone give me some advice which rom i should use to upgrade to?
I have a dutch TMobile MDA pro, which is still at the default rom:
ROM: 1.12.42 WWE (8/23/05)
Radio: 1.00.02
extRom: 1.12.125 WWE
I am experiencing problems with spontaneous hangs (which might have to do with 3rd party software, but the device itself isnt exactly stable)
but also the radio often just loses signal, which i can only fix by rebooting...
I want to upgrade, but i don't want to spend toooo much time on it. Is there a rom that offers better stability which is easy to install and configure?
Regards,
Casper
Try updating to the latest I-Mate Jasjar ROM. Very stable and fast. I too use a lot of 3rd party applications and games. This is my 3rd day of not experiencing any problem without doing a soft reset in the morning.
I prefer Orange ROM... both imate and orange are the same version though... only that Orange's ROM is released while Imate is still not released

ady, what made you say the I-Mate ROM has not been released yet? It is true there is a test version which came 2 weeks earlier than the one I am using now which is NOT the test version. Just curious.
Another question please about the NEW Orange ROM. Is it true that the vibrate is always ON and you can't turn it OFF?
I did it!
last week i gathered my courage, downloaded the JasJar rom, found the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe tool, pressed install, drank a cup of coffee, and was finished!
It went flawlessly! And my T-Mobile MDA Pro has never run smoother!
I couldnt (and wouldnt) have done it without this forum, so thanks guys!
Now its just waiting until there is a new stable rom with A2DP on it, and then i'll upgrade again!

I upgraded my mda pro to the latest t-mobile UK ROM straight out of the box. But even then I have the same problems with spontaneous hangs. And reading your success story I gathered all the files JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.exe and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to upgrade to the JasJar rom myself. But as complete newbie who is affraid to mess things up, did you do anything else except unzipping the ROM update and copying the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to that folder ? The reason why I am asking I read somewhere that you have to add [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 to the RUU.conf file.
Thanks in advance.
JASJAR rom works fine
My T-mobile mda pro NL arrived today and i almost immediately flashed it to Imate JASJAR firmware on the xda-developer ftp. I used the Universal_Upgrade_v1.30.68_radio_1.09.0.zip file which contains:
Rom 1.30.68 WWE
Radio 1.09.00
ExtROM 1.30.153
Protocol 42.42P8
and is dated at 08 february 2006.
This works fine and removes the ugly pink theme and adds some nice apps like skype after customizing. It also has an alternative contacts menu, which has skype integration. Pocket MSN (a not so nice app imho) is also included, although i use the new agile messenger beta.
The bootscreen mentions 'for testing only, not for sale' which might indicate that it is not a final (not sure though).
Thanks it works like a charm.
ROM 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date 20 february 2006
Radio 1.09.00
Protocol 42.42.P8
ExtROM 1.30.164 WWE
I'm using T-mobile UK version with 1.09 radio rom. This version INCLUDES the a2dp profiles, but no pushmail. You can use the blackberry connect software from german t-mobile site on the Universal. so you will have AND pushmail and A2DP.
http://www.pocketinfo.nl/artikel/5561
I think Imate rom is also a nice ROM.
Reading this topic en reading the instructions about bootloader, I have another question. In the instruction ist says to make a factory reset after loading the new ROM. Does this mean that all information in your MDA is wiped out and must be reloaded?
yes the machine is a complete naked beauty afterwards

Wizard Custom ROM 2.17 for T-Mobile MDA Vario
Hi. I've been lurking in this forum since I bought my US T-Mobile MDA (Vario) last week. I love it. (The Vario and this forum). I was looking for ROM's too, and installed a couple before I found the Q-Tek 2.17 ROM. It was cool, had some significant enhancements over the original T-Mobile ROM, but after installing it, I kept looking around and found a custom version that has the look and feel of a T-Mobile ROM. It has some useful tweaks and it's an english ROM that's pre-configured for T-Mobile USA. The link is here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44631
I like this ROM. After installing it, GPRS and everything is already configured and the battery life is lasting so much longer. The irritating things are disabled and there are some nice tweaks like the Edge icon when it's an Edge connection (So you know if it's EDGE or GPRS). The only thing I've noticed that's missing from the original ROM is the T-Mobile hotspots util, but I don't know if you care about that. I think you'll prefer it since it's in English and the 2.17 ROM.
