Profile Device Settings - About xda-developers.com

Are you going to update the Device Settings selections in PROFILES. They are a bit old now, highest Radio listing is 1.12.00.
I know you are busy doing other things (doing great job too), but I figured I should mention the problem in case it gets forgotten.

Bonehead moment, weather update issues

I have tried searching the forum for weather updates, weather not updating, weather updating intervals, weather update registry keys...
My weather stopped updating today. I don't know why. I thought maybe I fubar'd a setting when applying tweaks via Advanced Config, but nothing looks wonky in the settings I applied.
I click the weather tab, in the status corner it says updating and a little orb spins...and spins...after a few minutes I click update status, it still just sits and thinks.
I have gone through my registry, and nothing seems out of whack, so I am not sure what I am missing, and why this won't update my weather. I really don't want to try a hard boot to fix it...even with programs backed up, its a pain in the ass.
One last thing...I did change my radio rom 2 days ago. The one that went with the Tmous update had me dropping calls something crazy, so I went back to the radio rom that was first on the TP2 when it was still 6.1.
My calls don't drop now, but my weather stopped updating. Could the radio rom change somehow not be playing nice with the 6.5 rom?
Thanks in advance.
PS--I have yet to find a cooked rom that suits my needs so for the time, I am running a stock Tmous 6.5 rom with radio version 3.46 something or another...(its late for me and brain farts happen regularly at this time)
Are you, by any chance, using My Location for your weather? My Location requires the use of certain radios in order to work properly, and the recent change of radio ROM would explain this issue. The only radios known to work with My Location are 4.49.25.17 and 4.49.25.05, though there was a radio released recently which might work with My Location, though an older one certainly wouldn't work.
How do I disable it? I have tried via settings, but it seems to re-engage itself...assuming I am thinking of the same thing of which you mentioned. I went to Add Location and manually typed in my position and it updated without any issue...but the page one weather report seems to be stuck in updating hell.
EDIT...
after finally getting the location settings to NOT re-engage, the weather will not even consider updating...no updating hell loop...it just says "screw you"...so I will assume my radio rom is to blame. Do you know if the most recent one is stable? I guess if faced with having the weather, or dropping calls, I'll just remove the weather tab. It is just a nice feature, so if I can find a radio that won't be filled with static or dropping, I'd be happy to switch roms again.
I have, as many others have as well, had excellent results with 4.49.25.17. Your mileage may vary, since factors like geography and network play a huge role, but you can always switch back if necessary.
I personally don't use My Location for my weather though. If you manually add your location, then tap on the home tab's clock and choose your manual entry, you probably don't even have to change radios, as it will now show your manual entry on the homescreen instead of My Location. You can probably update then
YOU ROCK
I installed the rom you mentioned so that I could make sure I covered everything...as soon as I did the rom change, the weather updated without issue. Definitely the rom and My Location not playing nice with each other. I can't remember if this radio is the one that came installed with the Tmous update, but I will give it a try. Since you are in Sacto, I will assume it should work favorably for me as I am only 2 hours away in Fresno.
I do know that whatever radio came with the 6.5 update gave me major issues.
I appreciate you taking the time to brainstorm with me...you know the old adage of KISS...keep it simple stupid...the one place I never considered looking was in the my locations area of the settings.
Again I thank you for your time.
PS--if I decide to go back to my old radio, I will try your tip about manually setting everything and updating from the homescreen.
EDIT---DUH, it says right in my siggy what radio version was included in the update...wow I have had a long day and must be even more tired than I first thought!! Changed my siggy and added a note to myself for my swiss cheese brain.

[Q] Wi-fi disconnecting on AOSP (Non-Sense) ROMs.

After trying out several ROMs I have noticed that my wi-fi randomly disconnects, but only for (Non-HTC/Sense) ROMs.
I'm running OpenDesire at the moment, which I really like, but the arbitrary disconnetion of wi-fi is driving me crazy.
As far as I can tell, it has done this with the other Non-Sense ROMs I have tried as well, and I have no idea why.
Wi-fi does switch on, but (part of) the problem _seems_ to be that the phone has trouble actually getting an IP; other than that, and why it does this, I have no idea.
The settings (in *#*#4636#*#* test mode) are basically the same as they are for, say, the official HTC Sense OTA or Pinky, for which wi-fi seems to work perfectly.
Although, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at/for...
Anyone have any ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated
It's not having an issue with getting an IP, it's having an issue with authentication.
The first thing I noticed with these roms is they do not re-prompt to enter a password again if you have mis-typed it at all. This leads to wpa_supplicant client to effectively force a connection and get a refusal in quick succession. The wpa_supplicant client on the phone then disables the connection until you step in and either choose to reconnect or edit the password manually.
The issue we are having is related to this;
After being connected to WiFi for a fair period of time, it re-authenticates with the base station/router as it's supposed to do.
From memory, the re-auth happens every 60 minutes and most decent routers are able to change this.
At this point, the client (phone) tries to re-auth and fails (for whatever reason). Instead of prompting for a password (as it should do). It tries 3 times in total and stops.
After the last failed attempt, it disables the connection that it failed to connect to and jumps back to mobile data (if available).
So. Yes, there is a major issue with the wpa_supplicant in non-sense roms. Could we get the devs to investigate this, as it's really getting to be a major pain in the arse!
I see... Thanks for the clarification. Nicely explained.
So, short of jumping ship to Sense, there's really not much I can do then, other than wait for someone more skilled than me to come up with a solution?
No workaround, third party app, router setting or anything?
Unknown at this moment in time.
I'm investigating this in my own limited knowledge of Android and Linux systems, so far I've not come up with anything solid.
As far as settings you can change on your router, it all depends on your router and it's firmware.
I've got three different routers here:
A) Trendnet TEW-435BRM v4.00.07 : No way to change Key Renewal length
B) Linksys WRT160Nv2 v2.0.03 : Able to change Key Renewal length
C) MZK-MF150 v1.00.16 : Able to change Key Renewal length
Check your router, try increasing the length and have a play around. It's not a fix, the issue is either in the AOSP kernels or the wpa_supplicant module.
My NetGear WNR2000 does not seem to have any (easy) way of configuring Key Renewal Length, but I'll have a look around. Else, I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and go with Sense for a while...
At least now I know it's not just me. That's always comforting.
Thanks for the help acolwill!
No problems at all.
I have been trying to locate an app that will automatically restart the WiFi if a disconnection takes place, however, I've yet to find one :|
Anyone out there know of one?
eham, there's an app on the market called "WiFi Auto ReEnabler"
Give it a try, as it may well be the answer you've been looking for!
Sounds very promising indeed. Will get right on that.
Tried an app called Wifi Fixer, but that was a bust. Actually somehow managed to make things worse (for me, anyway).
Thanks for the tip. I'll be back with an update...
Ok, so "WiFiReEnabler" does actually do just that; re-associate with the network everytime the screen wakes. Unfortunately, what it doesn't do is stay resident.
It will let itself get killed by the system very easily, so I still have had a few times where I had to manually deactivate and activate wifi because WiFiReEnabler didn't have my back.
If the developer could make this a helper app/system service, this seems like it could be a decent workaround though.
I did however find an app called "Fix My WiFi" (£0.99 in Market) that seems to take care of the problem nicely, and quietly, so far (about 16 hours and counting, fingers crossed).
It also has some options to set different levels of aggressiveness, and notifications, which I like.
I also found a free app called "Wifi Reassociate" that seems to address the same issue. Haven't gotten around to trying it yet, as Fix My Wifi still seems to be doing its job.
Still, a tip for anyone with the same problem.
With that (hopefully) outta the way, I'm off to celebrate the anniversary of my birth.
Be well, friends.

Optimum TP2 settings

I know I risk the usual "search the forum" response.... And I did search... But...
Are there any optimum performance settings for the TP2 to run the XDAndroid smoothly? I currently have the Startup Utility installed ver 1.3.1 and have hit the update button on that to make sure I am current... I have even tried booting with the OC checked and set at 700. Should I be doing anything else?
Also, does the startup utility update the android when there are updates? Or is there an app I can install to help keep me updated? I'm still learning.
Thanks
Tim
Updating manually by checking the appropriate sites is always the best solution. That app tries to resolve that issue, but it's not always as up-to-date as the sites are going to be.
With that said, there's not much more you can do to tweak performance. There's different builds you can try, and there's certain things you can do within Android, but nothing earth-shattering.

CM7.2 issues--lagging losing connection

Hi, hoping that someone out there will have some answers or solutions for me! My boyfriend is knowledgeable enough to help me flash new roms/radios to my phone, but is not confident enough to change anything like overclocking, or any of the advanced settings in my current rom, CM 7.2
Even back in 7.0 and 7.1, my phone was always losing signal--for example, losing data connectivity in my office for several hours! This is using the radio that comes with 7.2, as well as several others (my current radio is 12.28h.60.140fU_26.06.02.25). I'm kind of at my wits end---it's frustrating when everyone around me is using their phone no problem and I can't even get a signal because my phone is saying it lost data connectivity because it's out of range/roaming! Is this an issue I could bring up with my wireless provider, or is this a rom or hardware issue?
My other current concern is that in the last week, my phone has been running very slowly--there is a delay almost every time I press an icon, whether it be messaging, gmail, or facebook. Facebook and other apps have been especially slow--if I haven't opened it recently, it will take about 10 seconds to start loading, with a black screen in the mean time. I've tried switching apps from the phone to the SD card and back, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'd hate to re-install the rom and go through the work of changing all of my settings if it ends up not fixing anything (waiting for an official release of CM9 anyways). Is there any settings I can change that would speed it up?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
your best off trying a new radio and flashing your rom over, yeah this can suck but im sure it will be well worth the time spent in the end.
you can restore most apps+data to the same point with titanium backup
if you use a custom launcher most of those settings can be backed up
sms backup + will take care of messages and call logs for you
really it wont take too long and you will be much much happier.
just make sure to do a full wipe when you reflash the rom
and when you change radios you can wipe efs and change ril-libs
this may also help out a lot -- here is some info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335127
again - read through this material first - do a full wipe - reflash rom - try new radio -
wipe efs and change ril-libs
you are now happy... after you restore everything to your desire!
do a nandroid!
I think that what demkantor said regarding radio and the sorts is pretty solid. Radios are a trial and error thing, it's different for everyone, so test and see what works for you in terms of performance/battery life.
Performance wise, if you like CyanogenMod, I would highly recommend switching to ILWT CM7. It is considerably faster and has better battery life when compared to official CM. You can find it under the development section in this forum.
From there you can use the Supercharger V6 script, which also adds a boost most welcome. Try to avoid using task killers, they'll only slow down the phone as it will try to restore the killed processes. Also, try to keep your app count as low as possible. Having many apps slows things down A LOT. Ideally you should only keep the apps you need, in addition to 20~ complimentary (games and so on). There are also other apps called 'rogue'. They tend to hog your system resources and drain battery. You should notice this by looking at the battery stats/running processes windows. You'll have to
From there, you can achieve more performance you can overclock. My suggestion is to use CPU Tuner, get familiarized with it and set up some profiles, in order to preserve battery as it degrades.
(Hopefully) last edit: I wish I could add more to this subject but my provider's reception up here does not allow me to. I hope the above info will suffice.
Sent from my DZ.
OK, first of all, @demkantor, Titanium Backup is awesome! it kept all of my presets for EVERYTHING. Thanks for that referral!
I reflashed CM7.2 last night and all seems good so far--not as laggy as it had been, though I haven't opened tons of programs since last night, either.
I will take a look at the efs and ril-lib details--I've used that thread to find radios before, but kind of ignored those subjects, since the new radios technically worked, but not WELL.
@crestofawave Thanks, I might try ILWTCM7, at least until CM9 comes out, because battery life has also definitely always been an issue for me. However, not super confident about adding the supercharger V6 script and fiddling around with my CPU. Is there any sort of beginner's guide you can recommend for doing this? If I switch to ILWTCM7 but don't run the script or overclock, can I still expect a significant change in performance/battery life?
I really can't do much else about reducing battery usage--I've recently switched to the paid versions of some games, to eliminate those battery-eating ads I hear so much about, and I keep bluetooth, GPS, and WIFI off unless I am actively using them.

Making a port work on US Sprint network

Disclosure: I own nothing hereI am not an expert romolgist. Just a guy that hates when buttons don't do anything.
Without a working US csc folder in the Rom it's all pretty much temporary.
Since support in current threads is non existent I'll do my best to show what I've done to get data and texting. It's still a bandaid for a weak design but it's enough to get things working for a couple hours.
Results will vary and this will be updated multiple times in the next week. I'm forgetting some details.
List of apps used.
SetEdit pro - helps remove bloated junk that's greyed out.
Radio Switcher - needs to be turned to cdma-auto and lte-cdma every time signal is lost
Region changer - gets the phone labeled as US but it's incomplete. More on that later
Root essentials - easiest way to get can and build prop in one place
Partitions backup - backup-/restore efs and radio
Aurora settings - adds necessary settings that rom builders left out
APNs backup - obvious reasons
Phone info+ - get into prl enable all LTE frequencies/ disable gsm band
They're pretty much necessary for every n7 port listed today.
Step one:
Backup efs/radio/apn from WORKING rom like MOAR or stock
Download with ADM. Speed was not a priority with these ports including downloads
Pick a Rom that you like the pictures of because words don't mean anything at this point. A 928p Rom doesn't mean it will work on a 928p so don't be afraid to experiment. Had better results from 930 and R4 Roms and kernels.
Hopefully you'll see the activation screen. If not you're gonna have a bad time.
Speaking of kernels use sky but uncheck the prop and other junk box on last setup page. These ports need extra junk just to stay running. I'll post a link to another kernel I like as well as some newer clones.
Step 2
Delete everything. Seriously. Data/system/whatever
Pull your flash drive after install or it tries to write there as well.
These things seem to write anywhere they want and old data has effected startup or install times.
Flash what you liked and hope for the best.
Pick whatever country is your favorite. Means nothing to US Sprint customers
Install as a 920.
Don't take the 928 option.
Install the note5 camera
Install whatever audio driver they added. Stock hasn't worked for me
If you don't see a restart at the Samsung splash screen or blue light stays on after restart it's a bad file. You want to see a jogging pace with the dimming of the logo. Anything less than that and it's going to crash sooner than later. For US Sprint customers it's usually at the connection check.
Step 3
Be patient. These are as temperamental as the builders and require constant maintenance to avoid memory leaks and signal loss. When you read claims about battery life it's because it's missing basic functions necessary to run reliably on us Sprint towers.
Step 4
Hopefully it's showing signal. If not the only workaround is injecting a US csc to the Rom itself as well as 90% of someone else's build props and csc files. I'll show what were used once the owner gives permission.
Restore apn/efs/radio
Root explorer systen/csc/sales_code mount as rw and edit to say XAS
Change region to US
Restart
From there I'll use radio switcher and connect to cdma-auto and wait for signal. Once signal is established and you see your phone number switch it to cdma/LTE auto and restart. Verify the settings stuck. If they didn't try playing with different connections. This sometimes works. Also needed for signal loss and probably every restart.
Once data is working try editing csc until it matches a good Rom.

Got synapse to load this morning. Day and night difference after cleanup and adjustments to little cores. Loaded a MOAR profile for shiggles and both roms freeze. Knew results would probably go that way but it's fun to try and break these things instead of the usual self destruct.
Testing with this phone might be done. Charging port is pretty lose and I don't want it fixed. If anyone can add to this please do I'll keep the links alive.
