RE
Hi the_erk!
But thats for smartphone only.
I think Sprite Backup may be able to do the job, here:-
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite_backup_premium.html
provided you know where the sms are stored

Try Sprite backup..
you can backup EVERYTHING, and restore selectively.
this includes mail, sms, settings, contacts, as well call list and such..
hope that helps..

RE
Hi AntiProxy,
Can you do selective backup instead of everything using Sprite Backup?
Thanks

You could also use Jeyo mobile companion or outlook add-in, available here:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14070
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14071
These allow you to manipulate and send SMS messages on your device, including copying them to your PC.

yup, you can choose to backup any of the following separately:
file system, Personal databases, mail, System Data
under File System, you may choose to backup individual paths
under Personal databases, you may choose any of the following individual DBs: Phone (Speed dials, Call logs), Categories, Contacts, Tasks, Appointments
under System data, you may choose any of the following:
Other Databases, File System, Registry.
so in short, yeah, you can backup anything and everything
i personally have it autorun at midnight taking a full backup onto the SD card, with 2 last backups retension..
i know it'll come in handy one day
with the generated backup files being self-contained executables, you can recover from a hard reset without a host computer

Try Jeyo
one of the BEST SMS utitlities for SMSing that I have used so far is the Jeyo Mobile Extender.
It allows you to backup all of your SMSes into the Outlook folders on your PC.
You can even send SMSes from the PC if your PDA is sync-ed.
It doesn't have the option of sending your smses back to the PDA though.
Check it out at www.jeyo.com
It didn't seem to work with my XDA, but worked just fine with the IIs.

Sorry for being off-topic, but I have searched and searched to my wit's end. Do you plan to have a version of SMS Organizer for the smartphone?

xBackup WM5

I have just updated my BlueAngel to WM5 but wish to copy my contacts across. I have backed up via xbackup within Pocket PC 2003.
But noticed there is no xBackup within WM5
Also just wanting to know if there is a more modem Bluetooth Software for this WM5.
Another thing is I noticed that I don't have ExtROM Version: (nothing). Is this correct?
Regards
Scott
When you install wm2005 you format you EXTROM because you no longer need it. And xBackup isnt for WM2005 but there is this program I uploaded on zevink.com called "SunnySoft Backup" in downloads/useful apps, skim through and download it, it lets you backup your system in WM2005!
Will "SunnySoft Backup" allow you to restore "Contacts" back from xBackup?
Look at this... If you want to backup your Contacts, Appointments and Task try this link
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=41
And if you want to backup your sms try "dopod SMS Backup or SunnySoft Backup Manager"
SunnySoft will get everything but contacts, calander, tasks, and stuff in that nature, it gets your registery, your applications, your data, your files etc.

Help Required for PIM restoration

Hi guys,
I am urgently seeking a help.
After upgrading/flashing to PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap ROM, I am unable to restore PIM (contacts and calendar) information. I use Spb Backup for backing up. Though I was able to restore E-Mail (e-mail + SMS) from the same file. If I try to restore PIM info, I get some db error message and on top of that even cellular network is unavailable.
It seems that there is some difference in db structure for AKU 3.0 and 3.0.1 featured in the above ROM. I did though try to launch the file on my older WM2k3SE device but with no luck.
The issue is that I do not even have all the contacts and calendar on my Outlook (on the desktop), and as you can guess I am sitting empty with hundreds on contacts and calendar items lying in the backup file.
1. Is there anyone here to whom I can send the backup .exe file (created using Spb Backup app), so that he can launch it on his Artemis and then sync with clean Outlook and then export 2 files in .pst format (one for contacts and the other for calendar)
2. Or is there any other way to recover this information from the backup file that I have.
Someones assistance is required, as I am stuck. I will be highly thankful for any help.
The problem has been resolved thanks to user RAMBO29 here.
Well, few other gave me some tips as well .... tnx to them, too.

Restoring old programs save states after Flashing

Hey All.
With all the great roms out of late it seems all i am doing is flashing my poor little JasJam.
The only anoying thing about it is that i can't seem to see any way to restore stuff like game and program save states.
Just as an example Pocket Informate losses all its contact photo links and you have to go back and relink them all. Another is a game call Tennis Addict where I can't seem to get it to go back to a previous save state.
I have even tried taking a copy of the directory of the game before the flash, then reinstalling it and copying the directory over the top and still no luck.
Is there a seperate place on the phone that this info is stored in.
Or is there a restore these programs after Flashing.
Cheers and Beers.
The only restoring I have been able to do is the entire restore. You just have to make sure you keep track of what backups go to what ROMS. You cant restore an LVSW backup onto a Black ROM. You flash the ROM to what OS it belongs to and then restore the backup.
Nice thought...I haven't ever heard of an app like that for Windows Mobile platform, but I used them for my old razr, slvr, and v3i back in the day...
Try backing up pim.vol and pocketinformant.vol

Where are these files located? I'm working on an application to solve these problems for myself and just uploaded the early beta here...
Settings Savior v0.1
All it does so far is backup and restore registry settings, but files are my next thought. Then possible assisting with application installs.
Thanks,
Rob
Yea i didn't think there was any magic fix for this.
I just had having to start things all over again.
Especially when you have spent hours playing one game.
Cheers

Good idea Let me know how it goes.
I've had good luck with Sprite Software's SpriteBackup. If you do a full backup, do a hard-reset, then run a special program, it will snapshot the "default" state of your phone. Flash the new ROM, and run the restore program (from SD) -- it won't try to restore anything from the old rom onto the new ROM, but it will restore your programs and almost all settings. Check the FAQ on their site, and carefully read and follow the instructions exactly.
Make absolutely sure you have encryption turned OFF before you do the backup, or your backup file will be encrypted -- and your hard reset will blow the key away (and you won't be able to restore!).
I wouldn't try this between different ROMs, like LVSW->Black/etc... but I've had great results from Black 1.0 -> Black 2.0 -> Black 2.5 -> Black 3.
Oh -- make sure you delete your ActiveSync relationships (delete each component separately so it removes all 'synced' contacts, emails, etc, then delete the server), and delete any IMAP and POP3 email accounts BEFORE you do the backup. If you're using IMAP or Exchange, the phone will repull the info from the servers when you restore (just recreate your mail accounts).. if you're using POP3.. well... get your ISP to support IMAP - you'll be happier with it.

Import SMS from a Diamond backup made with Sprite

Hello,
The problem is this: I just received my HTC Touch Pro 2. Before this I had a Diamond. I backed-up all the data inside the Diamond with Sprite Backup Tool before selling it expecting that I could restore the backup on my new Touch Pro 2.
It seems that I can't import the messages now. I am trying to restore all the data with Level 2 but I get this error: "personal database cannot be restored" or something like this. The other seetings/files are beeing restore (ex: owner information or any installed applications).
So right now I'm having a backup file. Does anyone know how can I get my messages out of that file?
Regards
For future purposes, use Microsoft myphone service. It's free and syncs all your contacts, sms, videos and music on their servers. When you upgrade your phone, you can easily sync all that data back to the new phone.
Or, you could download Jeyo Mobile Extender - works with Outlook in that you can sync, copy, import, export SMS to your heart's content...

Contacts cab

If any of you are flashing whores like me ou may have to backup and restore contacts over and over again. I was wondering if there was a way to make a cab file that would restore the contacts. This would be perfect when flashing roms with shashimi or user customization.
You can use my Export-Studio app (see Sig) which can export your Contacts as VCF files (which can be run directly on the phone and imported into Contacts)...I plan on updating the app soon to enable backup of more contact features (more entries per contact) as right now it only really does the basics.
If not, you can always google some freeware backup and restore studio specifically for PIM data. There are bundles online if I recall correctly (of course, if not you can wait a bit for me to update my Export Studio).
Good Luck
PPCPimBackup
You could use Microsoft's MyPhone, I use it and works really good, can save SMS messages and pics as well.

Have a look for XML Provisioning and an app called Makisu. Of course to run the XML you'll still need to install an app, so it's no better if you don't want to install anything (?), though DotFred's Task Manager can restore the files if I remember right and that can run without being installed.
vcard expert available from the windows phone marketplace let me save all contacts from my wimo 6.5 HTC into a compact vcf file.
Then restored my contacts using the same program.
