Blue Angel Versions - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi there,
Can someone explain if there is any real difference between the Blue Angel versions? i-mate PDA2K, MDA III, QTEK 9090, IIs and so on...
I am talking about a real difference for example the amount of ROM memory (which in some places I see 64mb and some places 96mb, which is correct?) operating system version and so on...
If there is a difference, which should I buy?
Thanks.

no difference

There are differences actually. Depending on model you might not get WiFi built in or a camera built in.
TMobile which is to release the MDA III might not have a camera
Sprint is releasing 2 versions with and without the camera, but both will be without WiFi
To my knowledge only WiFi and the camera are the missing parts from some models

Great, thanks.
And does it have 64mb ROM or 96mb ?

Ed,
What links do you have to support this?
All phone that are out today are the same. In the future there will be some without Camera's for the corporate users. The only thing that I have seen without WiFi will be the i-mate JAM but that looks completely different.

ok here goes:
this one says 96mb:

Sprint - Comes in the 6600/6601 (AudioVox) models. Both models are without Wifi support. The 6600 is the one that comes with the Camera.
http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/ppc6601_allPcsPhones.jsp
This link just shows that the 6600 model comes with a camera
http://www.pocketpccentral.net/news/10-26-04_ppc6600.htm
Verizon - Should be the same AudioVox models that Sprint uses
The whole reason for the lack of WiFi support is rumored to be a conflict with the EV-DO signal used by CDMA. You can look in many different forums for a discussion on this. I personally think the lack of WiFi support is just to save on support costs.
Cingular and ATT are supposed to be getting the Siemens SX66. It is supposed to be the full HTC Blue Angel specs. Nothing missing
http://www.engadget.com/entry/6548012790166434/
T-Mobile is calling it the MDA III which is already being sold in Germany. The US model may or may not come with a camera.

SX66 May not have a camera. I think they will do what they are with the sprint version. one with and without the camera... It's not actually out yet and "no one" officially knows yet.

Not all Blue Angels are the same !!
Some fly better than others.
In Australia we have 2 models of PDA2K.
PDA2K EVDO -
Phone/Radio - EVDO/1XRTT/CDMA
No Wifi
PDA2K GSM -
Phone/Radio - GSM Triband
Wifi onboard

Is it OK to have Tmobile radiostack 6.21 with AT&T servi

Hi,
I have problem with my AT&T official radiostack A.20.10. I got drop frequently. In the same location, the phone couldn't pickup any signal when another Nokia working just fine. I wonder if upgrading to Tmobile radio stack will help.
Which radiostack is better for international compatibility A.20.10 or 6.21?
Thanks
MDD
To answer you question, Yes!

Will there be a PDA2K with EDGE?

Hey all,
I know that the current PDA2K GSM is GPRS enabled but not EDGE (EGPRS). Will there be an EDGE version or did I just buy a Siemens SX66 for no reason at all... hmm I mean I realize you probably can't upgrade it via a soft upgrade or an SD card... but at any rate any thoughts on whether an EDGE chipset based device will be available?
In PDA2k form? Never.
HTC has moved on to it's next line of products.
The HTC Universal has UMTS support, the step above EDGE.
The HTC Wizard does indeed have EDGE support. I personally believe late buyers of the PDA2k got screwed, and would not recommend ANYONE buy a new device until the next line is out.
The next v ersio nis not the form factor I (and a lot of others) desire. Yes newer and faster is better, but did what were they thinking onthe re-design of this device. I did not want a mini laptop, I want (and bought) a PDA with slid out keyboard. This has been their most popular device, and have touted how their financial numbers have skyrocketed, have they forgotten why?
I know that a lot of people that I have spoken with are just as disappointed in the new design as I am. How about others on this board?
Raptor
Is UMTS backwards compatible
Question is UMTS backwards compatible, like most edge enabled phones still support gprs, will the UMTS phones operate one edge networks. because out here in the USA UMTS is no where near, cingular is still trying to make there edge networks nation wide, and tmobile doesnt even have an edge network,
sorry what is edge????

Hypothetically, you can buy Backpack for XDA (100$ at my place:-( which gives CardFlash (CF) extension to your device and then you will need to buy CF GPRS/EDGE modem card (usual CF card for notebooks ~150$)
Cheers
So there isn't such thik as an EDGE upgrade for the siemes?

how to get phone band option on Qtek 9090

I have a QTEK PH20B. I need a Firmware that will allow me to change the band. currently when using the phone, it does not pick up on the 1900 band. always no service, but it works fine on the 900 band.
device information
ROM Version 1.40.00 WWE
ROM Date 03/10/05
Radio Version 1.12.00
Protocol Version 1337.42
Ext ROM 1.140.147
it's a triband phone it should be able to do it automaticly if anybody use 1900 which i think they only do in US
its supposed to be Quad band
it doesn't pick up the network automatically..
other Pocket PC have a phone band option where you can choose betwen Europe and the US
which one ?
the walaby have in the boot loader but it dont work
the hardware is hardcoded to 900/1800 or 900/1900 and changing the option in the bootloader dont help anything of cause it's not triband it's dual[/code]
some pocket PC has option
I cchecked the specs on the QTEK 9090 ... its supposed to be a Quad band
the HP6315 has the 'phone band' option
1 maybe it's broken
2 maybe your sim dont like 1900
2 maybe there are no 1900 covering where you are at
3 maybe somebody in the blue angel forum who can help you
that forum is specialy for your device and you are bound to get
more owners with exp with the device to read your post

850 band on T-mobile MDA Compact IV in US

hi all, for some reason, when i search for 'mda' no hits come up but i found this by using google's search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408795
according to that page, i can flash any diamond roms to the mda.
follow up question i have is, would i gain the 850 band if i flash to a custom rom? kinda like how the original euro/asian diamond got 850 after a rom upgrade?
and another question on flashing, the main difference between the mda and the diamond is the smaller ram on the mda 128 vs 196 i think. do i get 196 back once i flash with a custom rom?
thanks.

Most chefs here do not include a Radio in there project. But for the few that do, Quad band is always the choice which includes the 850 band.
The reason why most chefs don't include a radio is because Radio choice is very subjective and thus users test and try different Quad bands available here to see which is better reception / battery consumption for their area.
Look for Radios on POST #2...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470306
ah i see. thanks, so i can upgrade the radio separately from the rom. and with a quad band radio, the mda compact iv should be able to make calls on 850? meaning it isn't somehow hardware limited from 850...?

That's right....look for Quad band radios to get 850 band width.

European TP2 with TMO USA Radio ROM?

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already, I wasn't able to find if it had.
Is it possible to reflash a European TP2 with the TMO USA TP2 radio ROM to enable TMO USA 3G on the European version?
I had come across a chart about a week ago of hardware differences between all the different versions of the TP2 and it appears these both have the same radio, so im assuming it may just be software registers or something that enable/disable certain frequencies?

I am fairly sure you can't.

Frequency is a hardware thing, you cannot flash a different radio to change the frequency of the phone.
