yellow hue - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

anyone notice a yellow hue on the xda #iis when at an angle???

They are all like that

can't say i've noticed it on mine... I did have that problem on my Ipaq 4150 though.

Just received 11 x IIs and haven't noticed a problem with any so far (seems to be a better screen than the iPaq 4150)

The screen is garbage!!! I hate my O2 XDAIIs. The XDAII was such a better unit. Windows Mobile SE is very limited to software that you can use as well. Wifi works good, but thats about it. I had issues with mine turning on by itself! lol The SD cards half the time wouldn't read so you would have to do a softboot. Is the unit even capable of using a mmc card? I couldn't get my 1gb mmc card to work, but my 512 sd did work after numerous softboots.

Every program I have works fine on my PDA2K (same machine). Almost all of them had the pop-up saying it wasn't designed for this version etc. etc., but install anyway and they work fine.
My screen isn't garbage, not sure what you are complaining about.
I can't remember anywhere that it says the SD slot can read MMC, XDA IIs/PDA2K advertising. I know this is possible on some SD slots, but they actually mention it from what I remember reading.
Are you using a generic SD version or a major brand? I haven't had any issues with all the SD cards we've deployed (except one failed and had to be replaced by Sandisk). We have a mix of generic brands, Sandisk normal and Sandisk ULTRA (way faster than anything else).

i can use sd & mmc cards on my mda 3 no problem

Unluckily mine's screen turns also into hard yellow when looking at it in not 90 degrees Anyone has any ideas against this? Like some contrast tool? Maybe I'll make some picturesa of the screen from different angles and post them here, so you can compare them to yours...

the new blue angel device's screen is garbage.. just like the new Himalaya screens.. yellow hue.. not readable in any angle other than 90.. and a big contrast problem...
my i-mate has the best screen i've seen ever in a pocket pc.. it was bought more than a year ago and ive never seen any screen like mine..
HTC has changed their screen suppliers.. i have known before that the Himalaya screens are made by sony... this was the case when the xda II was first introduced to the world... but after that they changed the screen in order to make more funds...
the same story:
a small company will give you more features than a big company for the same money...
the small company gets bigger..
now the small company is a big company..
and we have to find another small company to get great devices
one word..
I'm using my old i-mate and ive sold my pda2k

Solution:
I'll buy a damaged XDA II for cheap, take the screen out and put it in my PDA2k, what do you think? )

screen is absolute junk
Got my QTEK 9090 yesterday. Great little device. I like everything about it but 1 thing: the screen. It is absolute garbage  !!! Speaking of yellow hue, this screen is junk. Amazing that they sell this at all. My 2,5 yrs old XDA I has a much better screen. Luckily this QTEK is a loaner (the Dutch importer couldn't deliver yet but promised he could, so we all got demo units for the time being).
I think we will cancel the order and look for something else. The only question is: for what :?: What other device is comparable to the QTEK 9090 but has a decent screen :?:

this seems the only solution.. I'm ready to buy another Blue Angel and do this but where??
where can i send my two devices to change the screen...
another thing.. i don't think it's that easy to replace the screens... because i once sent an i-mate to ppctechs and they told me that they can replace SOME screens while they cant replace SOME.. so if HTC have more than one screen connectors for one model what do you think for two??

Xda IIi screen quality question
Who knows if the new Xda IIi (also known as HTC "Alpine") has the same yellow hue quality issue as the HTC "Blue Angel" ? If not we'll abandon the QTEK 9090 and go for the Alpine.
Another reason apart from the outrageous screen quality is the slider keyboard. My colleagues are quite big guys with big hands and fingers. It's quite impossible for them to press just 1 key at a time with their fat fingers, so for them the slider keyboard is quite unusable. And since it adds up to the size of the device, why not leave it out we're thinking.

Weird, I got my xdaIIs a few days ago and can see No discolouring at all, the screen is readable upto a near 45 degree angle, AND i am using a screen protector!, mabye it was just a bad batch, my screen is amazingly sharp
I had an old ipaq previously, that was slightly yellowy but not too bad, this is better

There is always compromises manufacturers have to make with a tft......
Yes, there is a yellow hue wich I don't have on my MDA II, but if I hold my Qtek 9090 outside in the daylight it is much better to read than my MDA II.
I think calling the Qtek 9090 screen carbage is extremely exaggerated.

I also get the yellow-screen problem on my 9090.
However, the quality of the screen in general *seems* to be better than on all the 2020's in the office.

these "all 2020's" you talk about are from the "new screen devices" search for someone with an "old" 2020 and see how better his/her device is..

I've heard a lot about this daylight reading thing...
but that's nothing..
I didnt buy the pda2k to read it in the sunlight.. it's a pda which is in 99% you dont have to use at daylight...
still im searching for someone who is able to replace my old xdaII screen with blue angel device..

Yeah, for all those *****in' about their screens, you need to take your unit back and swap it for the latest batch (unless the store is still trying to get rid of units from the original batch). The latest batch seems fine. Loads of people are now reporting great screens, fantastic voice quality (mine is the best of any cellphone I've ever used), solid keyboards and good wi-fi. Though the bluetooth is still garbage and will be until the ROM updates are released.

I'm about to purchase an i-mate PDA2k (couldn't get my older i-mate to work with the Sandisk 256MB + Wi-Fi SD Card). Still mixed feelings between the PDA2k and the whatever i-mate calls the XDAIIi (haven't seen it yet from i-mate). I have the option of purchasing the PDA2k from several places. How can one tell if it is from the latest batch? Serial Number? ROM version? Screen color identical to older i-mate?

Just got the XDAIIs from o2 today

Cant see any problems with it yet.
Slide down keyboard is stiff and secure, no gaps or loose
Screen has no yellow tinge
wifi works, but signal is low.
after reading some of the posts here in the days before my XDAIIs arrived
i was dredding it realy.
the problems i was reading made me feal like sending it back in return post.
BUT
as was said in one or two other posts, it looks like O2 have got the good stock
the wifi problem looks like its here, but saying that it works all round my house and threw walls here, so im happy there.
the signal isnt as strong as my laptop shows.
however driveing down the road, it picks up all sorts of wifi signals.
the volume of the outgoing voice sounds ok.
i mean ive asked a few callers and they say i sound fine.
i use the GPS mouse with a cable that splits to the car ciggy lighter
it was a worry i had (from reading posts here) that it wouldnt fit.
back when i got the gps mouse there wasnt a cable for my XDAII so i took a chance and got the one for the XDA,
it woked fine on my XDAII charging and working the GPS mouse.
so.....
today i tryed the XDAIIs AND IT WORKED !!!
i wish i could remember the name of the mouse, i will look tomorrow for you guys.
but GPS WIRED MOUSE/CHARGER for XDA works on the XDAII and XDAIIS
(without forceing the plug in)
if i find any major problems i will post here in this thred..
I'm on my 3rd O2 xdaIIs and it's a good one ( stiff keyboard/no gaps/no yellow ) all working and I'VE DROPPED IT. Chipped some of the paint of down the left hand side near the camera/record/volume buttons. gutted.
xda iis is it a good buy?
I'm looking into getting the xda iis after january and looking for all the pros and cons. have read it has a bad quality screen unlike the xda ii or iii,...I'm not up to date on things nor do I know a great deal on technology, (only what looks good)...but I don't like to have to use a stylus and have fairly big hands.. I'm sure you have seen about all the flaws and problems relating to this phone/pda...but what do you think first hand, now after having and using it yourself? And also if I might ask, does it meet your standards or live up to your expectations...? Any comments or ideas? I personally don't know whether to look forward to it, or to wait for something else. :?
If you don't like using a stylus, I'm curious as to why you would want a Pocket PC. Even with the thumb keyboard, you need to use the stylus most of the time. Would a Nokia 9500 not suit you better?
As for big hands, my glove size is 12 (or XXXL) and I have little problem with the keyboard on the XDAIIs.
There are quite a few negative comments on here regarding the IIs, but they seem to be based on earlier units, suggesting there were problems with the first batch. My IIs seemed to be part of a later batch and has no physical problems (keyboard is nice and tight, no yellow tint unless I view from a crazy angle, wifi works really well) though the bluetooth software is still dodgy (waiting on O2 to test and release the patch) and there are a few really minor bugs that will be ironed out.
But if you don't want to use a stylus, I would think long and hard about getting a Pocket PC. They are designed to be used with a stylus. The keyboard is really there to augment the normal, pen-based input; not to replace it.
stylus for blue angel
It's not that I dislike the stylus, I just don't want to use it all the time and don't want it to be the only option as on the xda II. I don't mind it for applications and bits, but not too much word input. It puts me off a bit. I do like the keyboard option on the II s, as I have had a look and feel of the II s and was highly impressed by what I saw. It definately suits me (as long as it is a good one and not full of bugs)...as far as nokia....I have never liked any of them... just personal prefs really. I've been wanting a pocket pc as I find they are really interesting and you can do a lot with them, however I'm a bit slow when it comes to knowing what's what when it comes to things like this. Are you happy with yours?
Just got mine, the screen seems ok no yellowish color, havent had chance to play with the Wifi yet.
The keyboards a different story like, seems really loose and really doing my head in, you would think it would lock in quite tight like my samsung e800
How have you gone about getting 02 to swap yours?
Are you guys basically reporting that you have NO yellow on your screen?? Unless I look straight on my pda2k has a substantial yellowing. It's starting to bug me...

I have dropped my Blue Angel in the toilet, and it works!

About a week ago I dropped my Blue Angel (also known as XDA III, Qtek 9090, etc) smartphone http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-blue-angel-en.shtml in the toilet. The water in the toilet covered it completely.
I pulled it out of the toilet, removed the battery, SD card and GSM SIM card, washed it a bit with cold water, and then dried it as well as I could using a hair dryer.
It didn't work.
But then, I let it dry for a couple of days. Now it works! I have tested all the functions, and it works.
The problem is, I don't want to use it anymore because it was in the toilet - damn. I'm not sure what to do with it.
Anyway, the fact that it works after this is remarkable. HTC (the company that makes the XDA, Qtek, i-mate, etc - the same devices under different brands) has done an excellent job.
This is in sharp contrast with HP. I had a HP PDA phone which simply stopped working, and another HP which I dropped and the screen broke.
My XDA III has dropped several times, been even in the toilet, and still works.
Well a thought would be to donate it to one of the guys that are building the BA Wm5 roms.
I am sure they would love to have a device that they can test as well as a device that they could use for themselves. As we all know they are doing all this work for free and for us as a comunity.
Its a thought else ebay
nice shXt.. oops sorry: my foul mouth!
Could always find ot how much it takes to break the Blue Angel?
Nah, bad suggestion. If you can strip the fone down and rebuild it... Get an Anti-Static mat and some IsoPropanol Alcohol and clean the fone! Then you can continue using the BA.[/quote]
Take it apart, clean (REALLY well) the outter layer and any layer that is of your concern, (mean while, slightly clean the electronics) and put it back. As long as the parts that are touching is 100% clean, it should be alright.
Or.. sell it to some un suspecting victim?
Obviously not the BOG standard blueangle then must be the Harpic model
i think d best way is for u to dismantle d phone completely den clean it as they said. but as an addition, provide us with pictures on how to do it. =) step by step procedure wud be really helpful for the community!
YIKES!
Boy, that's disgusting!! ... thank god there's no such thing as "Smello-phone" ... yet
sell it on ebay....if you want to make some money
give it to your boss or some other person you dislike as a gift

You have got one rare habbit of dropping phones in toilets
I recommend you start a website with reviews of phones/Pda's after they have been dropped in toilet.
p.s: Next time you drop a set in toilet, dont forgt to take a picture.

There is the possibility in kodi (fonts.xml) to make fonts bigger, also a selectable option the GUI, so why it's not get used by devs?
I have read it often here in forums, but devs don't care, why?
Please take in consideration that not every guy out there had perfect eyesight, and also time is not with us (we are getting older 😁)
Would love to finally see am stock skin with the best kodi team power in it and am option for Bigger Fonts.

HTC replacement screens

if you cracked the lcd on HTC phones go to these guys they did a good job on my Tmobile dash ( S620)
http://onsitecellularrepair.com/
LCD for XDA EXEC
www.gpsmidlands.co.uk. Prices very good replaced my screen while I waited
www.pocketpctech.com did a great job on my iPaq 4150 also got the RAM upgrade, fantastic!
I can't stress enough how good screen protectors are. HTC should think about putting them in the box with new phones if you ask me.

That is actually a very good idea, should be a standard accessory for any touchscreen PDA/Phone.
LCD Replacement.
The biggest issue with DIY LCD replacement is that some of the panels vary within the same model.. eg Dopod 838Pro panels seem to be different within the one model!
We've been selling the LCD / Touchscreen kits now for a while (with tools)
http://store.pressdigital.com.au/dopod-838pro-imate-jasjam-replacement-touchscreen-p-4715.html
but find they only work on the newer units.
.. Make sure you get an LCD WITH touchscreen if you're going to DIY it.. They're too hard to get the alignment perfect otherwise..
Good luck

I agree with you guys entirely that screen protectors are great, though I don't think that you'd get something much better than a cheapy from the manufacturer, which is not much better than gladwrap (tm). Dopod ones aren't too bad, but still. Most of your "buy 20 Belkin (or similar) ones for $20" aren't much better. If you're looking, buy Martin Fields screen protectors - they are GOLD!! Sure, $40 for 2 is more expensive, but they'll EASILY outlast your PDA!! The MF ones are made from some NASA-developed rubber or something and are awesome. We've been selling them for ages - http://store.pressdigital.com.au/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=martin+fields&osCsid=6f1194088498df6629265ce05a116c08&x=0&y=0 - and, if you're wanting to not have to worry about major upgrades, this is the key. But, as Andy said, if you're going to buy a screen, you'd be some kind of fool not to get one with the touch attached, 'cause it's just way too much stuffing around- if you get it right at all, which few do!
Hope it gets sorted out quickly for you!

This has happened to me with my orbit 3 times now (broke it in my pocket each time). I just bought a new digitiser off eBay and fitted it myself.

Screen protector
Hi guys
When I bought my Tytn, I had a screen protector with it, but please don’t use it, I will not use it to protect a nokia 3310 screen , it’s a verrrrrrrrrrrry bad quality of screen protector.
Eboo
I damaged my brand new HTC Eris digitizer, and got a replacement from RepairsUniverse.com
They do all the HTC replacements here - RepairsUniverse.com/htc-replacement-parts.html
My new Eris touch screen arrived in quick time with instructions and only took me around 15 minutes to repair my phone.

A good screen protector and where to get one (XDA Orbit, UK)

This may be the wrong forum because my phone doesn't look like the icon for this board - if so, please could someone direct me towards the correct forum? My phone is an XDA Orbit.
Anyway, it came with a screen protector - which was a nice touch. The only problem is it's pretty poor (still better than nothing, mind). Can anyone suggest where, in the UK, to get a good one? I think I've used a Martin Fields one before and a Writeshield, but I can't remember how I liked either one since I don't remember which was which!
So, where can I get a good screen protector for an XDA Orbit in the UK?
I ordered mine over the net from Brando. It takes a while to arrive but the quality is good. I've got one each for my Charmer and Wizard, they ought to have one for your Orbit. It cost approx £7 (I think) including P&P.
Seach for the forum topic on screen protector and you'll get lovely recommendation from other members. There is another brand of srn pro that is heavily recommended by the members as well, not sure if you can get it in UK.
You can try eBay also if you want it fast. Just make sure you get the brand name right.
So Brando is an okay place for buying stuff in the UK then? Also, I suppose my main worry is that the XDA Orbit is the same screen dimensions the Artemis - I don't really understand, are they the same phone with a different shell? Is the Orbit a P3300?
The orbit is the HTC P3300 and you can also find screen protectors at gpsforless.co.uk

Well, I haven't really bought 1,000 stuff from Brando yet, but from my 2 experience with them, they are good in terms of speed (considering the process of it getting from HK to UK), packaging and quality of their product. I dont have an Orbit, but if you (and epmulligan) can confirmed that an Orbit is a P3300, then this ought to do the job . Dont worry about the picture showing you the Palm PPC. Check the words under the description on the compatible devices when ordering.
ANYWAY, chances are, if you were to buy a screen protector for a 240x320 device made by the same company, chances are, the size should be alright (e.g. chances are, the manufacturer will be using the same screen all over).
BTW, did you search the forum for other advises. There are some other brand which the members here also recommended. See if they have Orbit specific ones and probably UK delivery.
UPDATE: I had a look at the screen protector offered at gpsforless for Orbit, which is a 12 pack for £5.99. I've tried some similar 3 pack set from someone from ebay and the quality is REALLY different. Hence, I would advise you not to get it from there.
Thanks for the advice guys, very helpful.
If you don't mind waiting a few days for delivery from the USA the Boxwave Cleartouch Crystal is second to none. I used these on my XDA2i and now on my Orbit.
http://www.boxwave.com/products/cle...h-crystal-screen-protector-htc-p3300_2421.htm
I got mine from this ebay seller dx_accessories
He sells the multi layer stuff and I can confirm it does work. Two main differences from the O2 supplied protector. 1, the top layer is much harder and much more resistant to scratch. It is also smooth (glossy finish) and the stylus glides over it with ease (not the case with the O2 protector). 2, the so-called 'gel' layer that adheres itself to the screen works brilliantly. It left zero air bubble with very small effort. I spent 15 mins getting dust and air bubble out of the O2, this I spent 1 min getting the screen squeaky clean and it sticks on to it perfectly. The size is also perfect, leaving no more than 0.3 mm to any side.
The only problem I have is the glossy finish, making the screen a bit more difficult to see under strong light. I own a Wizard and had a similar protector for similar price but with a matte finish like a normal LCD monitor.
It comes with a screen wipe which is handy. I won't complain for GBP4 all in.

Looked for him and it apears he has nothing at all on sale at all at the moment.
I remembered where I got my writeshield from - globalpositioningsystems.co.uk so I spoke to them on the phone, found the one for the Orbit and ordered it. I just figured I'd stick with what I know because I was satisfied with it before. The main reason I chose this was because the guy on the phone could guarantee me it would fit the device.
I bought mine at http://search.stores.ebay.es/DuraSe...sooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftsZ2QQsaselZ136025443QQsofpZ0
Very quick and impressive quality.

It turns out the person I spoke to at globalpositioningsystems.co.uk was wrong. The writeshield they told me to get is too big...

touchscreen XDAIIs and XDAIII - the same ? what about this ebay offer ?

hello,
there is a cheap offer for XDAIIs touchscreens on ebay.
i have a XDAIII - not a XDAIIs - i have a PB20B1 (board id 5) - not a PH20B.
does somebody know, if this touchscreen would work on my device ?
thank you!
xda 3 and 2s are the same model.
it´s just the provider name.
(the "real" name is HTC BlueAngel)
in germany its called xda 3 and in usa and england it is called 2s.
but thera are 2 different display types for the Blueangel !
watch the wiki
hello,
i readed the wiki: ok IIs and III should both be board ID 5 - and so they should both have the sony display.
but: the seller says for IIs and for PDA2K ! pda2K would be board ID 6 - so it's not the sony display ?
i don't get it ? does he not know, what he's talking about - or are the displays different - but the touchscreen the same ?
do you know ?
thank you very much.
that should help.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelLCD
hello,
actually the wiki does not really answer my question.
i only want to buy the touchscreen-digitizer (only the glass and the digitizer-foil) - not the whole LCD.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170201516276
Since the sellers at ebay can't tell me, if their touchscreen is for the toppology-LCD (i assume, cause i think in USA might me more toppologys than sonys ??) or for sony-LCD i want to make sure to buy the right thing.
so, there are 2 different LCDs - but do they maybe have the same touchscreen-digitizer (glass and foil) ? if so, i can buy it without doubt.
thank you!
are you german ?
(because you have a xda 3 that is only sell in germany)
hello,
i bought the XDAIII used - from a german guy.
Both touch screens are the same, the difference is in the connector to the back of the lcd, one has wide spacings , the other thinner, the one posted in your ebay link is the thinner one. the only way to tell what screen you need is to look inside. Also the thinner screen has two holes either side the tracks, the wider spaced tracked one has one hole in the centre of the tracks.
regards
Gary
hello,
sorry for the late reply:
i already looked inside my ba - a while ago. i also looked at the wiki. so i'm pretty sure i have the sony LCD.
so, does this touchscreen from ebay fit ?
thank you very much.
I've the same question...

I got lcd with 'wide' tape and just bought a replacement digitizer with 'thin' tape.
I think I'll manage to solder them together.
Question is..
Will it work? If I've done it properly, will it work? (i'm kinda smart with soldering iron xd)
