QTek 9090 review & BT headset patch - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi people,
I was surfing on the web in order to find a few reviews on Qtek 9090 (aka BlueAngle, i-Mate PDA2K, XDA IIs, ..., and dozen of other names) till I found a nice web site with handy forums, reviews, articles, patches, ...
You probably have heard the news that this device was introduced a few months earlier in Gulf states than in Europe. Since 2 weeks ago this one is also available in The Netherlands as Qtek 9090 and I was meanwhile looking for a suitable BT headset till I found this web site in Dubai.
Anyway, You can access the QTek web site in at: http://www.pocketpcdubai.com/
Do not worry if it you have no login account, just select the 2nd option and you are in within 10 seconds. Once being there click on the QTek 9090 picture at the top of page (the one saying i-Mate PDA2K Review) and you are redirected to http://pocketpcdubai.com/i-mate_PPC/PDA2K/review_page1.html
On page 4 of the review or http://pocketpcdubai.com/i-mate_PPC/PDA2K/review_page4.html you will see a few recent updates regarding problems with BT headsets including a few patches (link to http://www.clubimate.com actually).
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
- Avareh

QTek 9090 + Proximus

Hi,
I want to buy me a QTek 9090, but first I wanted to know if someone has experience on the Proximus-Network (Belgium).
Is it worth buying a Qtek 9090?
Sam
Hi !
I'm using QTEK 9090 (french) with proximus. I have no problem using the GSM network. I use no GPRS.
Regards,
Olivier
I'm using a Qtek 9090 since 4 weeks with Proximus as GSM and GPRS without problems.
Qtek 9090 is a great tool
Is there any update available for qtek 9090 and from where?
Hi all,
Thanks for your responses! I will order my QTek 9090 tomorrow! Any experience with Bluetooth GPS? I read about some problems with QTek 9090 and bluetooth...
Hope they will solve this soon!
I'm using the QTek 2020 for a year and that one is great, so I guess the 9090 is even better!
Sam
I tried the my father's bluetooth GPS (mine is serial, using old QTEK1010 cables), and it seems to work fine. My father had problem with his ipaq 2210 and the BT GPS, using tomtom on SD card : bluetooth connection was lost after a few mins. With maps on the CF card : OK.
Hope this help.
I'm using my 9090 now for a week on Proximus, not problems at all. It's a company SIM card so I don't have GPRS so I can't comment on that.
My biggest problem is WiFi access - sometimes it's working OK, other times not. Getting it setup for the office and home is proving to be difficult. To be honest the software is not so easy to use in this respect and I would also imagine they need a firmware upgrade soon...
Other than that it has been a very pleasant experience overall.
Today I'm going to www.padeg.com to buy a 1giga SD card
Hi,
I got my QTek 9090 and these are my experiences:
- Great machine!
- Proximus works fine
- GPRS works fine
- Bluetooth GPS works fine
- Bluetooth ActiveSync works fine
(only this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13604)
It is a great machine!!!!
Sam

In fact, i have configured it yet and can be logged to proximus but i cannot load any web page.
Thanks for answering me.
QTEK 9090 + proximus
Does anybody know how to configure the QTEK 9090 for proximus Mobile Internet ?
Go to www.smart-phones.be in the support area

Qtek 9090 Bluetooth patch

Hi,
On the Dutch web site of PDANews there is a bluetooth patch available since while ago. As the topic says Arne Hess has delivered a patch for bluetooth problem of i-mate PDA2K which also works on XDAIII/Qtek9090. This patch obviously solves the problem many users have been complaining/asking about, namely listening to music through bluetooth headset. It also offers support for bluetooth keyboard to work with Qtek 9090.

(To download the patch just click on the floppy icon which is a link to:
http://www.pdanieuws.nl/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=24)
I was just wondering if anyone has tested this one and can share his/her experiences with other users.
kind regards,
- Avareh ([email protected])
By the way, the patch I was talking about is also available for various languages at the web site of Dangaard (AFAIK Dangaard is the distributor of HTC stuff in The Netherlands) :

The original oem_wwe_124_008.sa.cab have been around for a while.
I downloaded the one from your link with the same name as the original oem_wwe_124_008.sa.cab (Stupid not to rename it) and it seems that there is some 25 more files in this one.
Just do a backup of your device, install it, test it, if you dont like it, Hard Reset and run a Restore.
Sprite Backup can help you with this.
Post your experince with it.
And the .cab file on http://www.dangaard.com/qtek 9090 bluetooth patch/ is not the same as the one on http://www.pdanieuws.nl
Like i said, Stupid not to rename it
Just wanted to hear if this patch works..
I've been reading lots of forum posts with people talking about the problem in the Microsoft BT Stack, but does this patch fix the issue?
Im dying to get my music out of my bluetooth headset..
i got i can no longer use the Bluetooth because of the lisense issue
so i just reinstalled BT3500 and it worked (not the patch)
vbguru613:
I guess you are talking about basic Bluetooth functionality. I have that working. What I need is to be able to listen music on my bluetooth headset.

jazjar and bt800

read on this forum that someone was having his blue tooth jabra bt800 working fine with imate jasjar (shows the name of the caller not only the number)
and after he updated his jasjar rom version it stopped shoing names !
I changed many radio versions to my jasjar with no hope
tryed my jabra bt with imate jam it showes the caller name
any body have any solution for that please help
thx in advance

I don't like my jasjar
Jasjar and BT800
@ actGsm,
Till now there is no supporting software which can be installed in Jasjar to make it show the caller ID "Name".
This solfware is available in I-mate Jam, but not in Jasjar.
I hope that I-mate can develop such softwaer soon, and I don't think it's difficult since it is already there with I-mate Jam.
Regards,
Khaled, what CID software for the JAM are you talking about? I didn't know that any such thing existed for the JAM?
I have been able to use the 'Name' feature on my SE HBH-662 for well over a year with my Jam, but it only works if the name/number exist as a contact on the SIM.
@ khaledelfeki
thanks for replying
by the way I found a new update for bt800 (00.34) my latest update was (00.32)
I know it have nothing to do with caller ID but may be it will not make my BT lose connection with jasjar
BR.
@ Monakh,
If you use the same SE head set on Jasjar it will not show the name of the caller even if the contacts are stored on the SIM, but as you said according to your experience it does work with the Jam, this is becaue there is a software included in the Jam ROM to enable the name to appear on the head set screen instead of the number only.
By the way, this software is also available with Sony Erricson cell phones.
Regards,
Some guy made a custom ROM before Stereo Bluetooth ROM's were released (Jwrightmcps)
This rom has REMOTE SIM ACCESS.
It is claimed (as I didn't have the time to test it out) to show the name on BT800 IF and i repeat IF the name is stored on the SIM.
So if you add names to SIM and THEY call you, the name will show. Doesn't work on contacts stored on the device.
It's a nice ROM. Try contacting him for a link to the D/L.
THanks Jwright.
@ actGsm,
The latest up-date is BT800_0034_US, after three weeks of trying the new up-date I can tell you that there is no recognizable improvement in the performance of the head set.
I kept the BT800 head set a side for the time being pending developing a new patch from I-mate to allow the name of the caller to appear on the screen.
For the time being I'm using Motorola HS820, It's too much lighter, and reliable... does not lose connection to the Jasjar at all.
If I-mate were kind enough to develop the mentioned software, I will take back my Jabra BT800 from my drawer and re-pair it to my Jasjar.
Regards,
@ Jorgee,
Thank you very much for the information, I already contacted with (Jwrightmcps) and he gave me the link to download the ROM which is still under testing, but unfortunately I could not open the link.
He asked me to keep the download link private untill the testing is over, but I can give you his email if someone is interested to have the link you can send him an email.
His email address is : [email protected]

Newbie question about bluetooth on my blueangel

Hi there,
Apologies for no-doubt coming across like a complete noob, but I am
A friend of mine recently let me borrow his Orange SPV M2000. He has burnt a different firmware image onto it - it says 'i-mate' when it boots rather than 'Orange' (the details are below).
Anyway, I am having trouble connecting the device to my Jabra 250v headset. I have tried all kinds of different connection settings but I get the same message:
Connecting...
(followed, about 20 seconds later, by)
Connection failed.
- Waiting for device
x Connection failed.
The device paired OK. Also, I have managed to successfully pair with a friend's phone and transfer files from his phone to my device.
This is driving me mad! Surely someone must be able to put me out of my misery?
Thanks,
Nik

Hi,
I would have thought that at least one of the 40+ people who have read this post would have had *something* to say?
If there is a bluetooth FAQ or troubleshooting guide somewhere, please point me at it!
Cheers,
N

Maybe i can help. I have had your same problem with my 250v (the same as yours) and my wm2003 rom.
The difference is that you say it DOES pair and when i tried (several times, with different wm2003 bt stacks) it did not even show me an available headset.
Other BT devices and the PDA in total, was working great, but... no working headset. I tried a different brand headset (can you still return yours?) and it worked. I got the S2 and G2 working, but i have had lots of probs with crackling noises on the line, so it was terrible to use (read useless, to my opinion).
On different forums the ericson HB... series is mentioned as working great, in combination with ppc2003, but i was too late on returning the device to the store and 1st kept the s2. Also you can READ and LOOK UP YOURSELF on different fora that the widcomm/broadcomm stack is not so good at all because even with a good headset, you get lots of cracks on the line when the headset and ppc are more then 1 mtr appart (or even less).
The S2 (very plastic and noisy) was working very bad for me and then my boss gave me a new jabra 250v. Unfortunately it didn't was discovered on my wm2003 pda.
Ok, so far my problem. The solution.
I have upgraded to wm2005 via helmi's 3.2 WM2005 ROM (on wiki). This has a sort of ms bt stack wich supports the jabra very well. Now i have no cracks, perfect sound on headset (hearing and speaking) and all other main programs still work (among gps).
So u choose, return headset and try a different one of flash to WM 2005. All other wm2003 options that are there (audio dll's other stacks, etc) i have already gave a try and do not work!
Sorry for the impatience. Looking at what I wrote, and how soon after my original post, all I can say in my defense is that I am having a tough week and lost the plot a bit
Sorry.
Thanks for the info. At least I know I am not the only one with problems! I am tempted to upgrade to WM5, mostly out of curiosity but also because it looks nicer (a poor reason to upgrade, perhaps?). Then again, I think I'll drop into my local Orange store tomorrow and try a couple of different headsets. I have had my old one for years now and had been using it with my Nokia. I am sure they won't notice that I am not using an Orange ROM
I'll let you know how I got on - probably one the weekend.
Cheers,
Nik

Things I wish I'd known before replacing my BA with a Kaiser

Thought BA owners considering 'upgrading' to the Kaiser (TyTN II / MDA Vario III) may appreciate my experiences:
- No unlock generally available (yet) if you buy a branded version;
- No infrared port (well the OS has an option to "receive incoming beams", but I can't find one it);
- No dedicated earphone jack;
- Impossible to use dual-sim adapter (yet?);
- Need to upgrade to ActiveSync 4.5 and Lotus EasySync Pro 4.2.4 or 4.2.5 to sync WM6 Calendar / Contacts with Lotus Notes. IBM currently charging over £50 ukp for 4.2.5 if you don't have a corporate licence;
- A pain to sync with Vista; and
- Really fiddly set of key-presses to start composing an SMS.
Maybe I should have called this post "Things I miss about my BA"?
Back to the BA.
I know man I went from the BA/SX66 to the imate KJAM, to the TMo MDA, to the Cingular 8525. Then was considering the Universal. But when I just happened to cruise these BA forums and saw that the Helmi WM6 ROM was out. Loaded it to the SX66 and I was jakked! WM6 on the Large Screen. The other Devices were no longer a quantum leap ahead. My SX66 was worn out which is what started my search for a replacement. I've found it! The O2 XDA IIs with Helmi's WM6 and Xsplodes Touch cabs. A Masterpiece!
