'holding' screen during mp3 playback - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

One thing I miss about my sony clie is the ability to 'lock' the screen during playback. Is there a similar solution for the blue angel?

You can turn the screen off with most music-player applications during playback, but I am not aware of any utility that will enable you to keep the screen on, but non-responsive to input, if that's what you mean.

Someone kindly posted the .cab for an application called screenLock that turns the screen off, locks all the buttons but still allows you to play MP3's etc (it's also perfect when you have bluetooth on for avoiding connection probs!). If you do a search you should find it.
Search for ScreenLock.cab

...or I'll post it here!
I couldn't live without this program!!! It turns the screen off and locks all the buttons. The only way to unlock the screen is to press button 1 and button 4 together (on the XDAIIs this is the Calender and messaging buttons) or do a soft reset.
This program is perfect for listening to music and also save battery life too.
The cab file is attached below. Drag it to your device and run it from there.
Hope this helps.

Yep, leapt straight in to my "must have" list.
Fantastic little tool!
The best thing I found to do was assign it a button like the "Record" button which I never used! You can then lock the screen with one touch.
Great when playing MP3s and beats paying loads of dosh for an iPod!

There's also MortSaver

button lock doesn't work if you want to keep on playing music.
problems with screenlock
Installed screenlock on my blue angel (SX66). When I launch it from the program panel, the screen goes black and then a moment later it flashes, the black then flashes. This continues until I manage to get a screen press in during the momentary flash at which time the screen then remains on and active. Not sure what is happening, anyone else see this or am I trying to use it incorrectly.
Thanks
David
is there anyway to change the unlock key(use other key except calender and message?) how?
I think they're the only keys that you can use. I expect that they are coded into the software itself.
on my imate
START --> Settings --> System (folder) --> Button lock
never the less, good aplication

i think you might installed it the storage card. i have same experience as you when i first time install it, you should install it to the default directory.

Try psShutXP, excellent freeware with lot of functionality
Do you guys use media player for playing mp3s? Cause it's pretty damn easy to configure a button to toggle the screen off. And you can still keep your buttons free for song functions like previous, next or volume up/down.

Audio Manager, Today Plugin, what is the point??

Someone please enlighten me how do you use Audio Manger or the Today Plugin player in the latest VM6 roms?
They seem useless since there is no way to turn off the screen!??
Do all of you play listen with the screen and backlight on?
There's quite some design flaws in WM6, off course I would like audio to keep playing when using the standby button, or at least have that option!?
In WMP you can at least assign a key to turn off/on screen.
Look at iPhone, offcourse it continues to play music when using the standby button, as it should be.
M$ has a LOT of work to make VM7 user friendly.

I "device lock" it after i press play. There's a device lock program that automatically sets the backlight to be off after 10 secs when executed.
I just set my backlight to turn off as well, used my device playing through audiomanager for about an hour today at work, screen off.

But screen and backlight is still on sucking battery even when using the keylock when Audio Manager is playing. Screen is dimmed a litte but backlight is still on. I can't understand how poorly designed theese apps are from HTC.

Search the site for it. It can be configured to turn the screen off when activated. You can also map a button to it. I haven't tried on WM6 though. Worked like a charm with Pocket player and WM5.
not sure if you guys notice...but audio manger lets you make your ringtones right from the phone. this is a nice feature for me...as i use to make my ring tones using nero onthe computer...now when someone emails me a song i can edit it right on my phone for ringtone use...i like that alot. other than that...it looks nice..but i still use media player or core player. but hey...one more app can't hurt...

PocketMusic 5.1 bundle stops when screen switched off:(

As described in the title. Is there a way to make this soft keep working AFTER I switch off the scren?
Any ideas much appreciated!
Many players will only continue playing with screen off, if you have headphones connected to the 3.5mm or probably also a bluetooth headset (don't have one).
There's an option in the menus somewhere that allows the screen to turn off automatically after a period of time - 30 second, 60 or whatever, which you set - and the music will continue to play. But you're right, you can't manually turn it off.
I always turn it of manually and it keeps playing. I have deactivated the automatic display turn off.
Can you play music in loud speaker with screen turned off .. i read somewhere that you can ... but when i switch off the screen it doesn't play though .. any ideas how you could do that ?

It'snt a probleme with your phone...for exemple with miri 14 wm6.5 i can play any media with all players when i turn off my screen, it's the same with my bluetooth headset...but with another rom PDAviet for exemple i can play with my screen off....pleaz excuz me for my english...tell me if it that...

HTC Phone Lock (Transparent)

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to get this working on our beloved HD's? I hate the way the screen goes completely black during a call, we can't use the light sensor to tell the phone that the call has finished and it is away from your ear (so screen comes back on a la iphone), and i keep doing things during a call with my ear!!
So this seems like the ideal solution - but i can't get it to work!!
I've copied over the file to the windows folder, then soft reset. Changed the registry entry for phoneLockEnable to 1 in HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone but still no joy!
All help would be greatly appreciated.

that's interesting, because my screen doesn't go blank during calls and it happens quite often that i accidently disconnect a call (i suppose because i hit a button with my ear).
so in search for i solution i found in Advanced config a tab Light sensor > Light sensor polling which i set enabled. the explanation says "uses light sensor to automatically turn screen off when the phone come near from your ear to answer a call". so this should set it like the i-phone does, right?
hence when i tested it, the screen still was on, even when i put my thumb onto the light-sensor.
is this because i don't have a stock rom (i use Duttys HD V1.9b XTREME) or is there something i can do about it.
it would be really nice to have the screen locked when i answer a call and to outomatically unlock it if i remove it from my head to use some function on the screen..

Hi take55,
Yes, i'm aware of the advanced config tweak (also in HD Tweak), and as you correctly state, the screen should/will go blank on call connection (i'm running kwbr's A Touch Of HD 3.3.4 and mine doesn't, even with tweak applied!!).
Unfortunately, when the call ends and you move the phone away from your ear, the screen still stays blank????? I've read somewhere on these forums that it never will work like the iphone (not sure why, as the light sensor should recognise that we've moved the phone away from our ears).
So that is why i'm trying to get this other method to work. What i have noticed is that with the bmp copied over to the windows folder or with a cab i found by A-Math installed, my dialler locks up after every call (as if the transparent phone lock is in place) but i can't actually see it. None of the screen works and i have to soft reset. Maybe something is stopping the bmp to show on the phone....who knows.
It also might be the fact that this was designed for the Diamond (found the cab on the Diamond forums).
Just hoping some genius here might now how to sort this.
I've attached the cab file i've found, give it a try and see if you have the same issue as me.

DF

It has nothing to do with the BMPs but with the registry setting that the CAB also makes. It sets HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\PhoneLockEnable to 1, in wich case you'll have to press the power button to unock (no need to soft reset). For the BMP to work the phone/dialer software will have to support it, otherwise it just locks the phone in the usual way: black screen, power button to unlock.

I've also found this problem to be quite annoying during a phone call but have found some sort of way to deal with it.
Firstly my ROM isn't tweaked, its just the basic one already installed.
After a call is connected, the screen switches off. But if you need to access the screen again during a call, I just press the "Back Arrow" key, one of the four hard buttons on the bottom which brings the screen back up again.
If you press the phone button instead whilst the screen is off, the screen lights up again but it puts the call on hold.
This probably isn't the best way to deal with this, but it seems to work for me for the time being, hope this helps anyone else here.

Useful info - I found this particularly annoying yesterday during a ouple of calls.
Also discovered Gyrator tries to turn the phone screen and was laggy - which was even more annoying!
Everyone!!!
CHECK THIS OUT - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489034
Answer to all our prayers - a screen lock which uses the g-sensor and not the light sensor.
Now, when a call is connected, holding the phone to the ear blacks the screen, but when you bring the phone down (to use the keypad or something), THE SCREEN COMES BACK ON!!!!!!!
Tried and tested on kwbr's A Touch Of HD v3.3.4 (probably the best manila2 ROM out there!)

Locking utility

I am not the only one to complain about incoming calls and locking utilities but I haven't found a clear answer yet. That's why I start this new post. Let me clarify that I'm talking abouts UIs other than the TF3D.
I've tried several UIs (WAD2, Spb MS3) in conjunction to several locking applications but there is always something wrong :
1) The built-in locking utility seems to be the most reliable but the tweak which enables that (section 4.1 in HD tweak) also suffers from the blacklight problem. That is, if the backlight turns low (e.g. while playing music) it never turns high again unless the power button is pressed.
2) S2U2 (1.62) takes a lot of time to wake up on an incoming call either when using WAD2 or Spb MS3. When it does, the WM Caller ID does not display correctly. In some cases, the phone wakes up but it takes 4-5 more seconds to start ringing. Furthermore, the hardkeys are not locked. As a result, when you try to take the HD out of your pocket it is highly unlike that you'll press no button accidentally ... A similar situation holds for the S2U2 built-in Caller ID screen.
3) S2U2 does not cooperate well with WAD2. When the phone wakes up by pressing the power button it keeps flipping between WAD2 and S2U2 for 2 seconds. This time is enough for allowing all WAD2 softbuttons to be pressed accidentally ...
3) Throttle Lock looks very nice but it does not support any exceptions. When the alarm clock rings, you have first to unlock the device and then press the "Dismiss" button
I'm desparate. Any help would be wellcome
I am in the same shoe as you. I have touch HD and I tried many locks but all have some conflicts with windows or other software in one way or the other.
Temporarily, I use AE Buttons and set all keys to double clicking...
Have you tried Pocket Shield? I don't know, if it is compatible to WAD2, but for me it is the best locking app that I tried.
Hi
Pocket Shield is really nice but :
* It DOES flicker a lot on incoming call if you want to keep the HTC dialer (software author recommends disabling this dialer, but I won't... it's so much better than WM6.1's built-in dialer).
* It does not provide features such as showing next appointments or upcoming alarms. It's nice to be able to wake the device, have a quick glance at information about your next appointment and then leave the device automatically go back to sleep (like in S2U2 for example). Maybe there's a plugin for such a thing in Pocket Shield ?
Just my two cents (I'm still looking for a better solution )
Cheers,

Showing appointments etc is not a prerequisite for me as I have all this info on my home screen (Spb MS3). On the other hand, flickering is a major problem as it may take a lot of time to stabilize. In the meanwhile, the call is lost !
It seems that you use a Diamond, not an HD. Could an HD owner describe the time delay on his device using PocketShield ?
Furthermore, can somebody verify that PocketShield can handle exceptions (GPS software, music players, alarm clocks etc) ?
Touch Diamond and Touch HD have the exact same hardware, CPU speed, RAM etc...

At the moment Pocketshield satisfies me. It has exception function, you can add some programs to unlock when they start. For example G-alarm...
Although I haven't tried Pocketshield yet, I think that I've got the solution to my problems. It is called LockMeLite (LmL) and it's free. It does not power off the device (as S2U2 does). It only locks it when the device wakes up.
1) Flickering takes no more than half a second and only the left softkey of the HTC Caller ID appears (not the full Caller screen).
2) The screen reacts almost instantly. I checked it many times by calling myself.
3) The ring tone takes 2-3 second to sound but I think I can live with that.
4) No appointments, tasks etc info. Only battery level, time and missed calls. No problem for me as I use Spb MS3 and all this info is available at the home page
5) Spb alarm works almost fine. It almost overrides LmL and can be dismissed or snoozed without need to unlock the device.
6) Very small app (658 kB cab file including four background images).
7) No battery drain.
8) Pocketmusic works fine as it does allow the device to sleep but it only turns the backlight low.
9) I haven't tried it with any GPS software yet.
Please try it and post your comments. Just discovered this small piece of art and for me it works better than any other locking app.
LockMeLite is good but it's not compatible with Resco keyboard and FingerKeyboard2 on the Touch HD. These keyboard gets lifted off screen or does not redraw well.
It does not work with Resco Contact Manger 1.11 as well on the Touch HD.

I do use SPB MS3 too, but to look at the home screen, you must unlock the device, which I don't want to do...
