Links of "View posts since last visit" do not work - About xda-developers.com

Maybe I'm the only one, but i can not believe.
If i do my visit here in the forum and check the new Postings over "View posts since last visit" i get the list of all new postings. If i try to open these postings in a new tab i got the following link e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16652&highlight=
The &highlight= is too much in the link, so i only get a blank page. After editing the link and removing &highlight= it do work all fine.
Any Idea how to solve it? Problem with the forum software?
Tried it with Mozilla on Linux and Firefox on Win XP ....

Wiki is not working any more

Hello Admins.....
The wiki pages are currently not working. I guess you have to do a lot of work, so i just want to give you the hint.
Stefan
yes, i know. i have not yet figured out how to get phpwiki to work properly with apache 2.0
it does work though, if you give it different links.
the wiki used to ( and should ) load links like this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/MagicianHardwareOverview
currently you can still access it via links like this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?MagicianHardwareOverview
....
probably something to do with 'AcceptPathInfo' and 'SetHandler/Action' in apache.

ah, great news the wiki's are available. I pointed some users allready to the google cache, but this is bettter.

[Idea] RUU Errors

a simple idea came across my mind....
since a large number of posts spread through all the forum are about RUU errors i was thinking if some of you guys out there will be kind and provide link to the wiki ruu errors page in your signature...it would greatly decrease number of pointless and useless posts like "what does error [260] mean"...
there is a link in my signature...just copy it....
additionally if you want we can discuss the form of the link itself so all of us have the same look so people get familiar with it....eg the size, color, additional characters, the text itself
i added a RUU Errors page in the FAQ of the main wiki section..
link: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RUU Errors
sounds nice, could you pm me your code for it? Or post it here, after all it ain't a secret
no code...click my signature and copy the address from browser window
but i will add it to the first post
I meant the color & sizing codes, for similar looks.
see my sig.
sorry sorry
this form isn't the final one i was thinking of people talking about it so we get one nice...
but now let's stick to this one
size 3
color red
text >> Ruu Errors <<
if anyone has a complain or wants to change ti...let's talk about it
Thanks great idea just added to my sig
That was wrong with this wiki page ?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RUU_Errors
Dave
it is that wiki page i just made it in the main wiki section because if you go to wiki, pres ctrl+f and type ruu...you will get this thread....
otherwise you would use google which is a pain in the ass because there are a lot of ruu errors mentioned in threads like what is ruu error [270] and a lot of people don't know for google advanced search (like "site:" option)
or you'd have to know that there is one in HD section...which is less likely the case for most of the users...
if anyone thinks that it is useless and repeated...please remove it...we do not want our wiki to look like all hell
Nope
This is the thread I created : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RUU_Errors
This is the one you made : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RUU Errors
And here is the results of the search for RUU on the wiki : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?auto_redirect=1&pagename=TitleSearch&s=Ruu
P.S. I know a couple of the HD mods were updating the RUU_Errors page with the most recent fixes.

If you don't mind, can you copy all the usefull hints that are missing from the RUU_Errors page into the "RUU Errors" page (or vice versa if it's easier). Let me know which one has the all the info and I'll change the other to re-direct to it so we only have one page again .
Dave
so...the page in the main section is exactly as in the hd section.....i redirected the hd to the main...hope you don't mind
thanks for moving the link from the faq to the flashing part

Nice one. Thanks mate.
I've made it so RUU_Errors page will automatically re-direct to the RUU Errors page. So now there's only one to look after.
Dave
i edited the hd and artemis link...you're the main

With page re-directs you don't need to edit the links to it
Note the text below the page title.
Dave
yeah i got that one....but it is kind of stupid to revert those 2 links to RUU_Errors...i did it when i posted that the pages are same
thanks
Great initiative!
Any plans to add troubleshooting steps and distinguish between the "official" VS "modified" rom updater utility?
For example, I had an error 260 with the "modified" Raphael rom update utility while preparing a rom in my kitchen. The issue turned out to be a problem with a malformed XIP. It would go through the flash process (100%) but throw an error at device reset and the rom update utility would display errror 260.
Another scenario, is an error code from the HardSPL updater. Although the code may be the same, the resolution steps may be different.
Cheers,
well this isn't my work i so have no idea
and for the hard spl....it depends on hard spl itself and it depends from device to device...
they all would probably have the same error codes if they were created by the same developer....

[Q&A] Can't access modem's thread to download?

I was trying to find a spot to download the modems, and the page with the links to the www(dot)forums(dot)acsyndicate(dot)net are offline. So in order to get to the download links, if you're a new user like me, use Google's cache to view the old download links.
Type "cache:" without quotes and then the link to the forum into Google search.
cache:URLtoAcsyndicateModemForumPost
As a brand new user, I can't post URLs, but at least I can maybe help someone that is having the same problem as I was.

Expand the forum into a wiki

I've got to say that these directions on this website are some of the hardest to follow. I think that the xda-developer website should be maintained as a wiki rather than a forum (or at least the main section should be a wiki). When I go to wikipedia, I don't have to sift through twenty posts to find out the history of 'Nevada' or the chemical makeup of 'acetaminophen.'
I understand that this web site is made for experts, but I've got to say that I've found many others who have scoured the website for information specific to their particular situation and gotten lost because that information is sandwiched between two threads and then between two other posts. Then they start a new thread and get chastised for posting about an issue that has already been hammered out in another post.
Conversely, I find that the simple instructions--like those found on youtube--simplify the instructions too much. The instructions work great for a select few, but most people run into problems during the install and have to turn to xda-developer to find more information.
A wiki would solve both of these problems. First, it would eliminate the knee-jerk reaction of noobies to just post their problem without reading. They would only be allowed to post to the forum if their particular problem wasn't resolved in the wiki. And if a lot of noobies kept posting about a problem that's already been solved, it would be up to the editors of the wiki to tweak the article to minimize confusion.
Secondly, with a bunch of experts working together to simplify the complex information means that they could have simple instructions with specific links for the situations where those instructions would not work. Some of the forum posts are like this, but they are few and far between.
The wiki that currently exists is mainly for information about the phones, not detailing instructions for development.
The reason I decided to rant was that my wife asked me to root her NookColor 1.3.0 and I proceeded to gather data on this process. I went to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027 and started reading the instructions for 1.3. It stated "2. Copy onto your flashable CWM SD card using Windows Explorer." I asked myself "How do I get a flashable CWM SD Card?" After some snooping, I found the instructions above 1.3 (in 1.2) where it stated "CWM Bootable from SD Card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735"
I followed the link and it was this next page that got me. It has 6 different links to different versions of CWM, instructions regarding uRecImg and uImage files (I do not know what these are) and an admission in the first paragraph that the author will no long actively edit the thread. If this were a wiki, someone else could take the baton.
Please write back, as I'd love to hear from the community. I'm sure there's a plus to the forums; however, so far I haven't seen it.
The issue is that if anyone can edit content, then it cannot be trusted or treated as reliable...
Trolls could easily adjust commands so they would break devices.
The only way to let people see how reliable content is, is to ensure it is only editable by the named author, with their profile showing previous details to help decide if they are reliable or not...

If you come to a forum like XDA it should be to learn, which involves a lot of reading and depending what it is and on what device you wish to do it, a lot of practising. The answer to the question I've quoted is on the first page of your first link, which is why its always a good idea to read the first few pages of a thread, as certain things that aren't understood in the OP are answered in the first few pages.

Please help me. I can't unbrick.

Hello.
I have been tried all day and couldn't solve it.
I have researched a lot and read all the critical articles on this board and
other foreign site.
I rooted my phone, install CWM for custom rom, install custom rom,
delete GO Launcher EX and being brick.
I know how to do factory restore, to go Download mode, how to use
UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe file and I know what kdz files are.
I fully understand this article
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412367
and many other article from google and foreign site.
I tried to do that marwin.exe method.
I have v10i, v10f, v10k but they are first not working because
it keep saying that I have newest firmware so dont need to upgrade.
I found a comment on the above article and it is about fixing HOSTS file in windows directory.
It seems preventing from checking firm-version in LG site.
Anyway, v10k did not work but v10i, v10f works.
Process is stopped at 4% and it counts 1 to 100 and zero.
Phone rebooted around count 80-90.
But the problem is, it rebooted and stopped.
There is process bar under "LG OPTIMUS LTE" on booting screen,
it first moved a little but stopped soon.
I did factory restore a lot, reinstall and etc..
Please help me out!!
I am the writer.

I think you changed your own number of posts per page

"Number of Posts to Show Per Page" should say "Use Forum Default"

Sorry, but it should not...User's choice
My comment was nearly for these who post references to page numbers, so it should read as: "...on page 29, unless one changed number of pages per post". Other words, refer to page number could be as useful as "RTFM" or "search the forum" replies .
