pocket pc cameras views - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

hi!
i am new to this forum.ihad a qtek 1010. now iwant to buy new ppc with camera(xdall, xdalls, xdall minin). can anyone give me suggestion.moreover i'll be thankful if anybody upload pics of their ppc camera

all pda/ cellphone cams are toys imho i've never seen a
a cmos camm which made very good pictures or video clips they are good enough for mms and take a fast shot of elvis being beamd up in his spaceship and such but little more

thanks brother! i knew it but what should i choose pda2k ,xdalls ,xda mini.which has better camera result.and i,ll be thankful if u send me a pic taken from ur ppc and dont forget to write your ppc model

I want to see the picture of Elvis being beemed up. I bet he was all shook up.

I've got a Qtek2020 that I am selling that has a pretty good camera of course its only 640x480 but it does do movies as well. I would rate the camera functions and mov functions a 5 out of 10. They aren't anything that you could make a feature length movie or award winning pics but they are pretty clear and work fine for web pics and MMS apps.
Let me know if your interested in it and we'll get together. In case your not familiar with the Qtek2020 it's exactly the same as the XDAII and that line of PDA phones.

ok guys, we are talking about ppc's here - not digital SLR's... I mean the camera quality is all pretty much the same, i dont think you gonna notice much difference between them, but if you want good camera quality, you would better off buying a digital cam... The camera is jus an extra function on the phone, its not really what you buy it for, know wat i mean???

Poor Camera Quality on O2 Orbit?

Welll, having used my O2 Orbit to take some pictures outside recently (for the first time) I can only say I am disappointed with the results. Every photo appears to be blurred and out of focus around the outer edge of the photo. Is this the best I can expect of the built in camera? Or am I driving it wrongly? As far as I know, the settings are default and I am set for the best resolution. Is this how they are, or do I have a faulty one?
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
Tony
Im suprised that no-one has commented on this. Does it mean my camera is faulty, or has no-one tested their camera?

reply to camera problem
Artemis has a 2Megapixel non-autofocus camera it does good taking photos outside. Picture is quite good but dont expect photo like a autofocus camera. Artemis camera as good as other non autofocus camera's out there (including iphone camera is same type camera with no autofocus camera).

lol, that sums it up quite well
My thoughts exactly. How can anyone make a device as good as this without giving it an excellent camera? Now it seems iPhone are about to do the same silly trick!
Tony, I use Artemis T-Mobile version. With the original rom, I really liked the quality of the camera. However, after moving to the Artemis ROM 3.0, I have exactly the same problems with the autofocus and the blurry image quality.
The camera can definitely do better.
Unfortunately, I have not found anything helpful so far.

there is no auto focus... there is no focus at all lol
Might be. But it does not change the quality at all. With the original ROM the picture quality was absolutely ok for a mobile. With the updated ROM, it is not even worth to press the camera button anymore...
I'm just surprised that there seems to be nobody else complaining in the thread of meschle.

i havent tried his ROM, i'm still on the original T-Mobile WM5 ROM... so i cant comment. I wouldnt have thought it would change the quality. Can you find out what resolution the photos are from Meschle's ROM?
the camera is just the same with the original or Meschle's Rom 3.0
i don't see any difference

there shouldnt be a difference lol
I agree that this camera is crap.
With my wm5 I had good pictures outside, I hadn't tried since.
I am now running on tom's 4.3, before I had official wm6 rom and the both are the same. Blurry, out of focus and has a type of wellow orange filter...
Myself don't ever bother to presse the camera button anymore....
Orbit XDA from O2
Hi guys
I use this phone to take photos and to me the picture comes out perfect. I was taking photos last Sunday on a grey rainy afternoon. I think the pics came out really well.

pretty much the same quality as the pics i can take on mine.
The quality of your photos look like the ones I had before the ROM update. As a comparison see one of my current photos. And yes, the lense is ok
well, I thought, but I ain't sure, that my camera and in particularly my video mode , was better on my TMobile dutch WM5.... which had a camerasensor in the extended rom... Not sure if that bettered the process...
as i was saying that i'm not sure if it was worse in the beginning..cause of daylight nd night nd was't paying much atention cause I thaght is was 2 MB...
but then i XDA developers nd start Xploring... found this forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302293&highlight=camera
about the sensor-thing ,.. that way i found out about the sensor cab that is installed in the Tmobile Dutch...
and i found this forum, about framerate,...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346858
It should improve Ur Videocapture,....Now ..I think that it improved my thing,...But I Ain't sure,... (By the way,..I think (what i also read somewhere on xda forums..) .. that lenses dies slowly (say it how u like),..
owyeah 4got 2 mention,... I've tweaked it little by little,..and at first you don't see anydifference,... but i think after several min it differs.....

Come on people does anyone know?
Or is this gonna be a long week with the multimeter and a few books!
SD to VGA adapter maybe??
I saw in one of the Windows mobile magazines that they make SD to VGA adapters. It mentioned that there was a microSD version soon to be released, and that there was a bluetooth product as well.

If memory serves me correctly the Universal was original sold with an optional TV/VGA out cable. It may be worth posting on the HTC forum itself or digging around. I am pretty sure that it was only the first few G3 devices that were advertised as having these cables, but have had a dig around myself last year for these to no avail.

Interest information, do you know more details about that
Wow, that sounds kewl, might have to email HTC.
The only info I could find on this is whats in the Wiki anyways
The touch-screen controller given shows the pin-outs which should tell us the touch-screen pin-config'.
I've given up on this anyway so I turned my camera into a nightvision camera really easy to do!

Share more details, I too was playing before with camera and IR leds
sorry this will be mega rushed just realised im still in my pjs and gotta be at work soon!
Basically you dissasemble to PDA as shown in the wiki, then take apart camera base, behind it there should be a coloured filter (IR filter) take it out and replace with two really dark things (like the begining of a negative) then put together and take pictures in the dark whilst pushing a button on a remote control i will make a proper how to do thingy when im home tonight!
Bye for now!
IR Camera
Right first of all I think I tried it with my Uni and couldn't suss how to get to the IR filter but I tried it on my Nokia and its working like a charm!
1: Take apart the phone,
2: Uncouple camera,
3: Using a knife prise the four corners of the circuit board off the base of the camera (make sure you only go about 1mm in MAX! Also make sure you remember which way round it goes ),
4: Unscrew the lenses off the front,
5: Punch out the IR filter, this should be the slightly coloured one usually red (or find a way to take it out properly if you wanna keep it but mine was glued on),
6: Find an old photo album and take the negatives, look for the first part where it is just pure black (no pictures) and cut two circles out of it to place where the IR filter was, (this will be your visable light filter),
7: Reassemble,
8: Go somewhere dark and use a remote control as a light source and take photos!

Repurpose the Dash

Hello people, iv just recently got my self a G1 to replace my Dash and would now like to ask every one some ideas what to do with it. Like many of you i have a special place in my heart for my Dash so i dont want to stick it in a drawer and forget about it, so what do you all say?
Free is best, open source is better, and no phone service is a must.
Webcam was first thought but so far iv only found one program to do that and its a pay app and the camera on the dash just isnt up to par, at least in the app i used (Webcam Plus).
how about you start porting **** from that android device onto your dash and making it work that would be a marvelous thing for you to do with your dash... orrrr you could mail it to me. and i'll mail you a 115 dollar check and we call it even i could always use a spare
gps..
video games..
Well this topic seems like a very good reason for starting a new thread....yeah....don't be afraid to read through some threads...there are plenty of dodads you can put on ur phone to make it do stuff
GPS, WifiRouter, Control PC through WIFI/Bluetooth, security webcam, etc

Video Calling moddable on AT&T Tilt2?

Hi all. I brought me a at&t tilt2 off ebay not realizing that you yanks don't support video calling. Dose anyone know if theres a mod to enable the front camera if it has one hardware wise or if its feasible to buy and install the cam and touch panel. I haven't pulled mine apart yet so not too sure if the hardware is actually there.
Cheers

No front facing camera hidden under there so dont bother taking it apart to see... that said I've not even heard of anyone putting one in. My advice.. put the phone BACK up for sale and by one that will work for what your needs are.
It'll save you a lot of time, money and aggrivation. If you do decide to stick with the US version you may just be grumpy that your phone doesnt have the camera period.
lol no biggie as im not all that keen on video calling anyway but would be nice to have tho. Haven't seen any cheep European 850/2100 hsdpa tp2's on ebay.

Sorry for suck quality. Forgot to switch to higher res with first shots.
Ever been wondering if Wave is waterproof?
I checked it, so you don't have to! If you like to thank me - got somewhere donation link...
It isn't...
More photos, better quality than before, tried to catch all chips ID:

Brought back to life in 80% after washing mainboard with isopropanol. These arent waterproof: LCD,water under - paleness and ugly colours, hold key is failing sometimes, also it thinks permanently that headset is connected, thats not connector fault, and of course loud speaker sounds like a poo.
(anyone knows where does lines from headset connector go on board?)

OMG
did you kill it by yourself or it just fall in water???
how much time did it last alive in water(seconds) or it just was dead when it was in it??
BTW the pics are really good
I was really surprised, threw it accidentaly into water, deep for like 25cm, it spent about 5 seconds underwater, still playing music (!) and showing everything on lcd, was still working when I was taking battery out.
Btw, I can't find FSA9480A anywhere there. Can you? Is it POP mounted? Or maybe it is under camera controller (or whatever is that thing to which is camera connected), there is something under that.
Wave is indeed waterproof(atleast to my luck)
I took my phone like an insane to rafting! started video recording, then kept in pocket & it fell within boat which had around 5cm water and was there for 5-6min(i didnt get know while enjoying) then checked it was working well and also recived a call. Then to be on safe hand side i removed battery & kept for drying 1 day. No problems after that; its still working very well!
