O2 XDA 2S Contacts list problems - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hello I have an o2 xda2 s running Win Mobile 2003 se that is about 1 month old.
I have a problem. If I use the contacts app to dial a phone number, the contacts app locks up and will only work again after a re-boot. This is getting a pain because I dial my contact numbers in this way.
Whilst the contacts app is locked up the rest of the pda and its applications work fine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Fatzzz

what plugins u have and what SIP method are u using?

Hi you mention SIP what do you mean?
I have no plugins installed, and only a few extra apps. TomTom Navigator, closeall app, uk postcodes for TomTom, Checkpoint. Thats it a basic standard installation with a few extra apps.
Cheers
Fatzzz

keyboards program, do u use any?
ie tengo
spb full screen keyboard
resco keyboard

No, I only use the standard on-screen keyboard.
Thanks
Fatzzz

Guyz,
I have exactly the same problem.
I was using pocketNav..and i realise if i close the contacts using pocketnav (which i have to do everytime), it randomly stops working.
Do not know if pocketNav's the culprit, but it's a great app that closes applications quickly..
Again, a soft reset solves the problem..but this isn't the long term solution we all want, do we? hehe
Hope someone can shed some light on this issue..
Cheers.

Vanishing emailaccounts after install Jasjar update

Hello,
I update my MDA pro to the new imate ROM but my emailaccount keep vanishing after a softreset has anyone any clue?
Thanx
same here
but on my device it was like this also before the upgrade?
which device dou you have, and which rom you had before upgrading to the jasjar rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=161019#161019
dont soft reset using a stilys. Use a program to allow flush the file bufferssss
yeah, thanks but.
i know that and honestly i still have to try it. BUT:
I just want to know WHY this happens, and WHY other users with the same ROM as mine is DONT have this problem.
And, if i incidentally do a Softreset or maybe take out the battery, i lose my account again! thats not a solution for me.
Anyways thanks for your hint . apreciate that.
can you confirm my thought about the battery? or maybe its REALLY losing the accounts just after a Stylus reset?
It hapened to me time ago.. Some programs, like outlook, dont flush their databases buffers each moment. So, if you create a new account, or delete some mails or sms (this actions modify the database files managed by outlook) and then you reset your pda using the stylus, many buffer may be not empty so you loose that information. When you reset your pda using a program (it uses a API funcion that allow the buffers to be flushed to their files) all the information is saved in disk and you wouldnt hava to loose anything.....
thnx
thats was a clear explanation, thank you.
Any ideas why this happens only on some devices, even if they have the same rom?
I ve repeated the test right now. I have sent a email to my account in gmail(this account is configured in my jasjar). I ve connected using UMTS an and i ve downloaded the mail. then a i ve soft reset using stylus. When the device has booted i have launched pocket outlook and the mail wasnt there. I ve downloaded the mail again and a i ve done soft reset using a program (handy meny). When the system has booted the mail was there. Conclusion: I supose Outlook use the api fuction "CeWriteRecordProps" to update or insert a new record in the outlook database and probably Windows Mobile 2005 uses a buffer policy to reduce the access to these databases. so, if windows hasnt written this records fisically to disk then you can lose some information if you reset using stylus. When you use a program to reset, windows informs to the device drivers that "sleep" is in progress and they have to save the unsaved information so the disk driver has a chance so save all.
I hope Microsoft change this policy soon.....
so you...
...think this happens on all HTC Universals?
I think it happens in all Windows Mobile 2005 devices....
ok, i´ll let you know in the next days...
...then i´ll receive some more universals. and also one of a freind of mine, who told me that he hasn´t got this problem. i don´t know if its true, but we will see...
I don't know.I ve repeteated this test with my jasjar and my himalaya(with magneto) with same results
i can confirm...
...your description to 100% !
with a "soft"-softreset everything is fine.
and i´ve found out why other devices semmed to do NOT have the problem. Those users setted up their account, and had serveral (100+) mails ond their pop-server. Poutlook took a few minutes tu download headers and part of the messages. in this time the "buffer" was "written back" to the mail-db.
So: I think that for now, all the WM5, or at least all UNIVERSALS got this problem. Some user just don´t realize it.
Now that we (well,i) now that it is not a problem of just my device, FOR NOW i think i can live with this solution. btw, i use Pocket Plus 3 as task manager and Softresetter.
thnx dherrero.
Thanx DHerrero
After your tip I used spb pocketplus 3.0 and the softreset works wonderfully!
Thanx for the workaround hope they'll fix it soon because pocketplus makes the system very slow.[/list]
strange....
With Pocketplus my system runs fast as always, no problems at all.
Pocketplus
Probably due too a combination of software then.
I'll work it out if you say its not due too SPB Pocketplus
Thanx
you re wellcome. There are many programs to soft-reset the device "softly" and thye dont brake the system.... For example Hany Menu and much more..

Where do I get / How do I install the Palm SMS Threading app on my WM6 Dash?

Any help on this? I've heard great things!
as far as I've heard, and tested, none of them work. (the two I know of atleast) the program can't grab the message for some reason. they probably changed how it recieves or stores them in WM6, one of the reasons I went back to WM5 for now.
This is when I got it running on WM6, there's a small problem on both WM5 and WM6, same exact problem.
http://gadgetsonthego.net/2007/03/palms-threaded-sms-app-works-on-t.html
the problem with the app is that you can't get back to your inbox without closing the app out first. I have set task manager to a speed dial so I press "2" to close the app then I get back in my inbox and can navigate between inbox, outbox, drafts etc. Otherwise the app works very well. This app was NEVER intended to run on non-touch screen phones, it doe work though.
This is when I got it running on WM5

Official TMO WM6 Problems

Just thought I would start a thread for problems/annoyances people have noticed with the upgrade to WM6 (RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.22.531.4_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Ship.exe)
Here is a start for me:
- The memory leak problem is just as bad as the beta I installed over a month ago.
- The homescreen reverts back to the TMobile Default Blue on a soft reset (you must rename to fix)
- The registry hack to disable the beep when you initiate a call doesn't seem to work (didn't work for me in the beta either)
Not sure what you mean by 'memory leak', but I found deleting the Voice Command shortcut from the startup folder frees up a lot of memory. Personally, I find the number 1 feature of Voice Command to be frustration, so I don't need it loading at bootup.

Try renaming the tmobile default blue homescreen xml to something else, or delete it outright. Im pretty sure thats the homescreen that defaults back when you restart the phone. I would like to state for the record that I have octrotalk installed, and have customized my homescreen with octrotalk. It essentially creates a new homescreen with all the plugins from the current and adds octrotalk to the new one, setting it. When I restart my phone it always comes up as my octrotalk screen, regardless of how the restart was done (battery removal, smarttoolkit restart, whatever.) Additionally I don't have any memory leak issues. I run quite a few apps at a time, word, excel, IE, octrotalk, outlook, a few games in and out, occasionally zatelnet, and the filemanager. I also generally close all apps Im not using anymore, but when I close all the apps I opened to run, I usually recapture around 12megs free ram. When I start up from fresh boot, Im at just under 15 megs. Atfter closing apps in the default wm5 tmobile rom, I would usually end up with 9-10 free megs.
Unless someone else can confirm that the official rom does this same stuff, I feel like you may not have upgraded your rom.
I'm having problems with mail since upgrading to WM6. I can only reveive my .mac mail, I can't send out. I've tried everything to fix it, changed the ports on the smtp setup on the Dash and still can't send out mail. This is so frustrating! I didn't have this problem in the WM6 Beta or WM5.
I'm getting absolutely no email on my wife's dash after this new ROM. I try to set up the email and at first I get a warning about Roaming (I'm not). And then it just refuses to connect to download her emails from our POP3 account.
It' so strange these email problems we're having. I am not having any problems with gmail, or aol for sending and receiving, only my .mac mail (I can only receive, not send email). I rely on this as it's my main email client. I never had any problems before the "official upgrade".
Are you all using the T-Zones plan with the jury-rigged proxy settings? That might explain it. They're moving towards T-Zones being available via the WAP browser and widdling away at other features being accessable without paying for different service levels...
im just so glad there is a forum for the dash/excalibur here instead of mixing it with the MDA like HowardForums.
Over there there is about 2million "official" threads thare are never official to begin with. lol
If I use T-Zones button and go through the wap browser and go to my email I can send and receive fine within the t-zones wap browser. The problem is with the messaging app itself that won't let me send out email with my .mac account. Even if I have the phone turned off and am using WiFi I still get "the message cannot be sent" errors.
What else can I remove from the running programs to free up memory?
I don't use the voice command either. I would like to use the live messenger but it takes up so much memory.
I wish I could just take memory off my memory card and use it as phone memory.. Or even have a option like pocket pcs do and use the program memory as system memory...
Grrr I hate havin a laggy phone, reminds me of XP on a 266mhz computer..

I use PowerControl+OMAP from http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm to overclock my phone. It overclocks the processor to 240mhz when its in use and throttles it down to 180mhz when its in standby.
There is another issue with Windows Media Player and streaming Video (e.g Orb, Videos from Windows Media Mobile, etc) where the screen rotates 90 degrees when you zoom the video to full screen.
It's been tracked on this tread:

i made a post on howard forums with the things i dont like on WM6 for the dash .... http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1156952
What you describe is how T-Zones work -- if you pay more, you can do mail within the messaging app. If you pay $5.99, you can do mail via the WAP browser. Which service plan do you have?

It should have nothing to do with me having the T-Zones $5.99 plan I can send and receive with aol, and gmail with the plan, only receive with .mac, I can't even send out mail using WiFi. I was on the phone with T-Mobile today and they tried troubleshooting. They said that for some reason the smtp is getting blocked with my .mac account, they think I should call Apple. I even asked if it had anything to do with me being on the T-Zones plan, and the rep said no, it should work through WiFi since I'm not using T-Mobile's network.

The "Problem with the homescreen reverting back" is not a WM6 problem, it's a My Faves (My 5) feature. Basically, every time you turn your phone on, the My5 service detects whether you have MyFaves and changes your homescreen to the proper setting. The settings for this are saved in the registry.
The location is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen
There are two values, On and Off. Just change those to your homescreen, or try removing them altogether (haven't tried that yet).
You could also try removing the My5MsgCenter.lnk from the startup folder, but I don't know if that's the one that reads from that registry key
ha, for some reason chaznet takes every opportunity to bash the 5.99 tzones plan. i have it now with wm6, i can go to every website, i can check my hotmail by going to www.hotmail.com, and the internet seems even faster than with wm5. so it still works, and it doest seem like its going away anytime soon

Deleting the Homescreen Registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen" Key Worked!

Desperately need help with NOTIFICATIONS (prob. a bug)

Hello I have a M3100 (HTC HERMES) running Windows Mobile 6 Pro
Specs:
CE OS 5.2.1413 (Build 17913.0.3.0)
I really can't understand why every 4/5 days or after having installed some program (like spb shell) my notifications for SMS and e-mails disappears.
I tried to look in Settings/Sounds but everything looks fine.
In the registry under the ControlPanel folder the keys look to be ok.
When I receive and SMS or an e-mail I only get the writing "1 Message to read" (or similar) with no sound nor popup nor vibration....
Is there a way to control this notification system? How does it work?
It's really frustrating because I continuosly have to look at the today tab to see if I got a message... grrrr.
Thanks
Just dont install those programs...that might fix the problem
I'm having the same problem without any installed apps.
Sometime, soft-reset does the trick and sometimes not.
However, I did not let the device continue to install everything after my hard-reset, what is in the extended ROM in Schaps 4.01?
Did I miss some critical update?
Have you 'TICKED' the box in Settings/Sounds&Notifications/Programs ?
Otherwise it has to be one of your installed programs.

Yes, it is ticked. The problem is that most of the time, just as mattjakob described it, there is no notification and the messeging today plugin shows unread mail. While in other times (after SR?) everything works good.
Coming to think of it, it may have started around the time I assigned a sound to incoming mail... I'll try and remove it and see what happens.
I'd personally reflash the ROM for something this odd...

I cannot receive sms

Suddenly, after a hard reset, I cannot receive sms and I do not receive reports of delivery of the send sms. The all rests function regularly. Alone curious that it makes when I am in touchflo and go to select sms tab instantaneously open the spb mobile shell 3.5 that I have installed. I again close perfectly spb mobile shell and when I go to select sms tab in touchflo it closes instantaneously and it turns in classic environment of windows mobile. Something has been teased in registry but what ??? Also when I made installation of destinator afterwards in order to it runs I extinguished smsmodule.dll from the folder of destinator. I report all them and occupies somebody what has been teased.
Excuse me for my bad English

You dont provide any details about rom etc but as a general drawline,
Try a hard reset... yes another one
Before install any application try to test your sms function and then if its ok install other apps.
Somehow i think this is a destinator issue ..i read sometime back about this but i dont remember where.
I run my destinator whitout install i have all the files in the sd card and i run from there all the time after flash or HR whitout any problems.
i hope this will help you
