forgotten password - PDA2k - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi,
I can not recall my password; kinda silly but real...
I don't want to make a hard reset and loose my son's pictures at his graduation ceremony.
Any recommendation?

Youy should be able to hook the phone up to your cradle & then browse using activesync to transfer all your wanted files onto your PC before you hard reset. Even if you only manage to sync as a guest, not a peer, file browsing should still work from the PC

Thanks for your response..
When I get connected via cradle, I get a message like "this mobile device is password protected. In order to connect to the device, you must enter its password."
So, I can not browse.
I feel like I need to hack my own device..

There are only 4 digits.. maybe u can try all the combo....

Earlier, it used to give a message telling it was the wrong password, when I enter directly from the device.
Now, it does not give any response, just waits.. I have soft reset device each time or reseat it to cradle to reactive ActiveSynch.
I wonder if it is blocked or not.. I might be trying hopelessly..

i'm facing the similar issue...
would a hard reset do the trick?

i think so.
you don't have nothing to loss.

same probelm
hey people,
i'm with the same problem i tried an alphanumeric password and now i cant get it right.. I tried to do the hard reset but i think i'm doing the soft reset. In the manual says to hold the power button and press reset. I did this millions times and stills asks for the device password!!
can anyone help me?
In case that this wont work is there anything i can do? developing it to the factory or something?
thx in advance..

Hey.... face the truth...
Hardreset it...
My Grandpa' told me long time ago....
"Isn't good to have all the eggs on the same basket"
Thanks Grandpa... i always record in two cameras, or imediatly synced my data for backup...
Oh yes... Skynight...
Does you have the original for BA manual? i mean maybe if you google a little or read the wiki pages can found how to perform a hardreset... or maybe i become a great guy and tell you where it is.... mmmm im hungry search please.

plz help me man..the manual says power and reset. i searched on forum and they said camera+power+reset would do it. when i do that way i only get a white screen with something written on it..I only had the pda for a couple of hours and it's my first pda, i'm kinda new in this "world".
can u tell me the right way to do it? In a electronic store it costs 50€ and i dont wanna pay that
thx

@skynight

XDA 2 Upgrade to ROM 1.72.181

I was in the process of applying an upgrade to the ROM using my laptop.
Everything was going fine so I went to make a drink. When I returned the screen saver was active on the Laptop and the screen on the XDA 2 was grey showing a progress report of 55% complete. When I looked at my PC sdreen there was an error message saying that my USB connection had failed (not the exact words) and offered to try to re-connect or end connection. I tried both but couldn't get activesync to reconnect. I have since tried a soft reset and hard reset but all I have is the O2 start screen with the bubbles. I can not switch off without removing the battery. Please Help
Regards Peter

It looks like the screensaver screwed up the connection. Not to worry, your device can still be upgraded.
Put the device in boot loader mode by pressing and holding the jog button (bottom centre of device) and the power button at the same time and press reset button. This should show the bootloader screen (dark screen with Serial V1.0x displayed). Put the device in the cradle and it should then display USB V1.0x. You don't need Activesync as the upgrade process looks after its own connection.
Make sure that the cradle is connected directly to th USB port on your laptop and not to a HUB and that the power supply is connected to the cradle. Disable the screensaver on your PC , restart the upgrade and it should work OK.
Hi there, I am from Malaysia, have feel question:
1) I am currently using Rom 1.72 which WAXX posted it earlier. Should I upgrade to this version that dcs posted? Is it necessary?
2)What is Blckberry that u guys kept on mention?
Thanks you very much.
You are a STAR Sir
Thank you very much for your help. It is people like you that brighten up the dullest of Manchester days. Your advise worked a treat and saved me from returning, what was a paper weight, to the "O2 Service Dept" (who are subcontracted by O2). Why they couldn't have given me the same instructions I will never know.
Just to alert others to the incompetance of the whole system. Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to switch off the screensaver, (I suppose with hindsite I should have checked it myself!!!).
I spent the best part of an hour on the phone being passed around different departments as I questioned why it should happen and why nothing was being done to rectify the matter.
I am informed by the O2 Service Dept that a memo highlighting the Number of people returning machines affected as mine, has been ciculating the offices of O2, and distributed to Dealers for the last week. Wouldn't it be easier to temporaraly remove the download or add a warning about screensavers, or is this just another way the Service Dept has to make money?
Once again Thank You

Thank you . To be fair though, until you had this happen, I never thought about the consequences of a screensaver activating. It is something I can add to the list of things to be aware of though .
From what I have read from different people on this forum, however, I agree that O2 support is sadly lacking in basic knowledge for these 'modern' devices, and one would now expect their installation instructions to contain the things they should have learnt from people like yourself. We will have to see .

Wrong password, delete data

When I turn on my device, it asks for a 4 digit password. I think this is great! ;-)
But i want a setting or program => When somebody enters the wrong password 3 times all the data on my device will be erased.
Do any of you know such an application/program?
Thanks in advance.
lol... someones paranoid...
do u not think that might cause some problems if someone randomly picks up ur phone and gets the password wrong...?
Asked a friend for his advice on this and this was his reply:
"maybe theres a code where if u put the security number in wrong 5 times then the phone explodes...then ud know who pisses around with your phone cuz not only would they not be able to get to your special data *naked pictures of your mum*, but they'd also lose their face, and or hands"
Someone from the trinity forum exactly got what you want - unvoluntarily. He has exchange server wipe policy on for multiple wrong password attempts. Someone got his phone and you guess what - bingo

Very very simple question. ANSWER???

I've been using two PRophets and my last adquisition was a Trinity (Qtek S300) - HTC 3600.
The magic question is:
Is there any WM6 ROM (including originals...) that let me USE EMAILS, AND USER PASSWORD without loosing it after a soft reset?
How can everybody uses WM6 with these GREAT bugs?
I don't understand....
Thank you early.
Disappearing wifi and email accounts is a wm6 issue there's some thread about it,just use the search feature.
Thank you, i use to use search as much as you can imagine. No clear response to this problem anywhere. Give me an example.
Examples: Wm6 issue (just take a look.. Nothin related directly. so much ****)
WM6 Bugs--> Nothing.
Maybe i don't know how to search...
So, finally (for future people who use SEARCH...):
Is this a bug, and there is no solution. We have to **** up with it, dont we?
Nothin related directly. so much ****???
Come on give me a break.
Let's see if this helps you:

[!] For prevent password and account dissapearing u should (you should make this procedure immidiatly after first soft reset ):
1. Set up your connection settings
2. Open IExplorer / Set up Ineternet connection / Open some internet page
3. Click Disconnect button to close internet connection
4. Hold power button and turn off your phone
5. Power on your phone.
After that procedure your password wont dissapear. I think that you should repeat the same for mail account (set up mail account / try to send or recieve your mail / hold disconnect button / turn off your phone)
Thanks to mun_rus
Yes. trought your first search link i founded that.
I'm gonna flash just now and try it. It'll impress me. After so many months... a solution
Sorry dude i'm bad tempered.
Thank you.
Ok. Done those steps: Doesn't work.
After first soft reset (With stylus) everything ****s up again.
Nothing solved. You 're lying me
Sorry man.
It works for me......I can't help you though
there are many threads....

Dont know with CIDs devices, on my Triny that never hapens to me, I m using now Mary 3.6 and is working fine...
I personally never encountered any problem with disappearing stuff after poking the reset hole on my non-SuperCID Trinity - but then it's actually quite seldom for me to poke that hole anyway since the cooks here produce quality roms. When I need reset, I usually did it the soft way.
THE solution !

My solution:
1. Always use power off->on reset
2. NEVER use hardware reset (stylus reset or remove battery)
3. If some installation program asks you to reboot, ALWAYS say NO, and power off->on yourself
4. If your Trinity halts for some reason (maybe ATI video chip bug), and the power off button does not work, just bind the Button 1 (Hold) to <Soft-Reset>. It always WORKS!
And you settings are there after.
I just used to live with this bug.
Maybe gurus can help with this issue, maybe not, maybe it's hardware malfunction, and it's time to change HTC to some other brand

help, need a creative hard reset procedure or something

I've read the wiki and faqs beforehand. Now, with that out of the way here's my issue. I need to either hard reset or reinstall a new rom on my t-mobile branded dash. Here's the constraints
1) left soft key doesn't work, but all other buttons do.
2) I can't activesync and I've never synced the phone to a computer before.
That's it.
I recently posted a couple questions because the phone got oil damage and wouldn't start up. Well... i fixed that, but for some reason when booted up, it automatically locked the keys. I would normally click left soft key and * , but of course... left soft key doesnt work. Therefore, a traditional hard reset won't work, and if it could, well... i'd just unlock my keys right. Since this was my mothers phone, i never needed to sync it and I tried syncing a few minutes ago and get nothing. That's probably because the phone is locked.
The phone is carrier unlocked and runs on att network.
Common guys... need your help on this one. Either a way to unlock to keys or a way to hard reset would be good... as long as the hard reset doesn't result in a fresh os that starts up with keys locked.
Look below and download the new 6.1 Rom and then navigate here on how to set up the rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415225
Follow those instructions and it will work for you.
well thanks, but step 1 is not possible. In my original post, i mentioned that i can't sync because 1) the phone has never been synced before and 2) my comp, which already has activesync installed for my hermes, doesn't recognize the device in the usb port.
Yeah dude, can't even run the sda unlocker man. It asks to connect my phone. Whats up on an old school sd rom install.. oh yeah, that violates the first law.
So, there seem to be two rules. No left soft key and no activesync. HELP?
im me if you think you can help

remote hard reset
ATT says that they can remotely do a hard reset from their corporate fortress of pain and suffering. I will allow them to rape my data stream in an effort to free my soul of the keylock demons. I will have plenty of holy water... so don't you worry.
Maybe try a program like my mobiler or True Connect Pro. You could possibly put the cabs on your SD mini card and control your mobile thru your pc and clear your storage to hard reset. Your probably still going to need active sync but do your research just to be sure.
Honestly I think your phone is fubar. If you spilled some oil inside it and buttons are not working it's only a matter of time where more problems will occur.
Good Luck
your right... it had a good 2 week run after the oil spill. Now, even though yesterday it was charging and starting fine, today it wont charge or start. Oh well... i give up.. anyone need a new battery?

[SEEK] Password protection with hard reset

Hi guys,
i am looking for a password-lock application, S2U2 would be cool, wich resets the device if the passwort was keyed in wrong several times. Like "Nice Start" did on older devices.
So if your phone gets lost, and i lost my diamond 2 weeks ago, all data will be erased if someone guesses the PW.
Is there something in the air?
Matthias
Here's a nice app. that i use..
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-terminator
It has all kind of great features except this "wrong code entered several time protection" you're looking for.
Onestly i don't think this feature you want is very smart..imagine that you're phone get's unlocked in your pocket and you accidentaly press some wrong passwords..or a friend is trying to ckeck out your phone and does that...
wow, remote termination via SMS sound cool!
Thanks!
