CRADLE causing HARD-RESET??? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I have had it happen 4 times in less than one week... occasionally my device somehow does a HARD-RESET by itself!!!
One time, I slightly shifted the device while it was just sitting in the cradle, and it did a HARD RESET!!! The other times it just happened when I was inserting it into the cradle or when I was removing it from the cradle.
Any ideas? This is a HUGE pain-in-the ...ASK me if I really like setting-up the device features over-and-over again. Aaaaargh!!!!!

i had this problem once... when i changed the sim card..
just make sure that the battery latch is secured properly.

Have you checked that the connector, or especially the pins on the pda2k are not bent/damaged? The design of the dock isn't great (unlike Toshiba pda's where the dock cradle is so high and good quality metal design with slide rails that you can drop the unit in perfectly and quickly) and if damaged could be shorting a power line. A collegue had this problem with an XDA and it was a chargeable repair as they say it is deemed user negligence! So be very careful docking your device!

Thanks Sunish, the battery is secure... don't think that is the problem in this instance.
lx_t ...I checked the connector on the cradle and the pins on the device and everything looks good.
Maybe I should get a new cradle? Do you guys know where I can get one of those newer cradles that allow the sync AND the recharge using the USB connection. I saw them on eBay (UK) but they were silver color and I'd prefer a black cradle to match the device. I'm in Canada though, so it's not that easy to find these things locally.

dunno if it will work, its not really fixing the problem, but try and upgrade your active sync, to v4 i upgraded to this and it seems faster and fixes a couple of fixes i had.... its only a suggestion tho..

Seen this? Dock for Universal.

Wonder how securely it will hold the phone? If it's solid it would make a good car holder by sticking it to the dash and just clipping the phone in when needed.
Here too: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=126238&asource=119353
Expansys USA just shipped a couple of these to me. I should have it tomorrow (Tue)
Ditto.
this looks nice, but wish it showed more pictures. It is only 18.95 on expansys-usa. Please let us know how you like it!
A pretty simple cradle. It has a single USB port jack that accepts either a USB connection (which also charges the Universal) or the AC/DC jack. But doesn't replicate any of the other ports (for example, the headphone jack is covered up when in the cradle). It also has a notch to allow you to access the stylus if it is still in the unit while cradled. But it is still difficult to pull out. There is also a hole to balance your stylus in when not in use.
It has a single blue light on the front whose sole purpose appears to be to tell you if the cradle is plugged in. This light is on all the time and doesn't change (so far). The lights on the Universal itself still determine charge status.
The Universal lays flat in the cradle. However, you have to be careful when pushing it in. The height of the USB port on the Universal and the recepticle in the cradle are off by about half a millimeter. You kind of have to look at it and maneuver it while guiding the USB pieces together. You can't really just lay the cradle in and push.
It costs $19 US and, well, is worth about that. Useful to keep your Universal from flopping around your desk while connected (which, to be fair, is pretty useful considering how much the Universal costs), but not much more than that. Nothing fancy.
Mine arrived today. Deeper than I thought. fixed with 2 double sided tabs.
Any ideas how to hide the cable? It's a company car and I don't want to hack it about.
Is it really ok to drive about with the flip cover open? I suspect long term bumps from the road may damage it prematurely. Any thoughts?

I like it but it does need some sort of "spring" to absorb the bumbs. Looking at it, a piece of (stainless) steel bent like a "U" would help give it some spring - depending on the gauge, that is.

Need new handset to fit car cradle

Hi there - I'm new to the forum.
I own an Orange SPV M1500 which I think is what you'd term a Himalaya here.
My partner bought me a great new car kit which has the typical thin xda connector port in it, but now the phone is behaving badly. The screen is wonky in several places and is not responding to taps.
My dilemma is this - Orange do not provide these phones any more and they don't provide phones with the same port connector on the bottom either.
So I either have to get rid of the cradle or somehow get another phone with this type of connector.
Does anyone know the current list of phones with this kind of connector? Or where I might be able to get hold of a replacement?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not too sure, but with most car kits you can buy replacement cradles, which i believe are relatively cheap compared to replacing the whole of the car kit, what car kit is it? perhaps a quick google search along the lines of replacement cradles might turn up something

FOR SALE - XDA 2s (x2) + BT-338 Sirfstar III GPS + 1GB SD + Car kit

Due to an upgrade to a Kaiser, I have the following for sale:
TWO O2 Branded XDA IIs - One complete, one lacks stylus - Both are UNLOCKED.
One, my spare second one - the battery *may* be faulty. The reason I have two is that I had issues with it rebooting when i first got it, O2 sent a replacement and neglected to send a return bag . It ended up that it seemed to be the battery, so I used the original handset but the replacement battery, and I slung the replacement handset and original batt in a drawer. After rooting it out of the drawer (where it had lain for a couple of years) the battery seems to work fine and power was still over 84%. I will run it some to check. Maybe I was just being a noob or the backup battery hadn't charged.
Both handsets have some minor wear on the corners but otherwise are fine. No loose sliders etc. The rubber cap over the headphone socket on the main one is starting to split.
Also, there is a GlobalSat BT-338 SirfStar III Bluetooth GPS unit. I should have the wall charger lying around somewhere lol, I never used it though, I always used the car charger (Which I definately have and is included). A really great unit.
Also, there is a windscreen sucker mount for the XDA. Just a cheapo halfords one, but it fits perfectly and doesn't obstruct power or headphone sockets.
Also included is a retracting mini-sync cable - USB one end, custom XDA connector the other. Get a car lighter -> USB adapter (No! You can't have mine!) and leave that in your car, then you can use the mini sync you keep in your pocket with any PC or in your car to charge or transfer files.
Also included is a 1GB SD card. It is Integral branded card, it shows no speed but it seems to have enough bandwidth to play DivX off the card
Also included are two cradles - one for work, one for home
There should be two holsters, but I mislaid one the other day, I am sure it will turn up lol.
Would anyone be interested in the job lot? May split the 2nd phone off for a spares sale, but would rather sell the lot as one.
I can provide pics, I will need to bring the 2nd cradle from work, and see if I can find the missing holster / GPS wall charger first...
I live in the UK, but I suppose I would consider sending elswhere in europe. Would be unwilling to send to Nigeria even if were is for £10,000
Offers please
I think you will get your best deaL on on ebay here.
I suggest you list them separately
Might be interested in bidding on the spare one...

!!! Help! Touch Pro2 ....USB socket....

The touch pro 2 USB socket broke... (the 11 pin one)
and it is out of warranty.
They are demanding $300 to get it fixed.
Does anyone know of some other way I can get this phone fixed at a much cheaper price?!? Please!!
How exactly did it break? Did the whole socket come unsoldered or did the little tab thing just break off? The tab broke off on my old Mogul & I just superglued it back in. VERY carefully. It worked just fine afterward, the tab is just there to support the pins.
If the whole socket broke off, all I could suggest is finding a friend who's really good at taking stuff apart & soldering. I would do it(used to do micro-soldering for Hitachi) but I live in OK.
$300.00...?!?! That's insane...when the same happened to my mda, I purchased a battery charger from cellphoneshop.net, that charged the battery without the phone...I searched their site and was unable to locate one for the tp2
I don't know how big bellevue, wa is, or if its close to a larger metropolitan area. If so, I would look on craigslist and search for "cell phone repair". I had my mda screen repaired by a company I found on there, pretty cheap....
Alright, thanks guys... but is there like a place where I can mail-it in to get the phone repaired? Craigslist isn't really helping. The phone charges, but I can't connect it to the computer via USB or use any headphones. Also, there are other MAJOR problems caused by this broken socket (it won't boot unless I have a USB adapter plugged in, and that it remains in headphones mode). The black clip came off, but it's kinda impossible to glue it back in.

it isnt here right now but try calling them and see if you can get a new port, if the port isnt soldered to the board.

[Q] Renault Clio

I have just taken delivery of my HTC battery charger. It cost £9.09, came from Amazon and I assume it is genuine.
It works perfectly in my Nissan X-trail. However it does not work in my wife's Renault Clio (2003/4 reg).
Is there any form of adaptor I can get or do I just have to go down the route of trying the numerous chargers out there (a significant number of which are not to European safety standard, apparently) until I find one that works.
Or is anyone out there happily charging the Desire in their similar age Clio in which case what are you using? I would prefer to find one such as the HTC where data connection is not enabled hence allowing rapid charging, very important with the sat nav running.
Or do I have to buy a new car?....which seems a tad extreme nevermind how much I like the phone!!
Thanks.
How come it doesn't work? Is it the fitment etc?
You sure the lighter socket works in the car? A lighter socket is a lighter socket after all and the only thing I can think is that is has an odd shaped surround that prevents it from going all the way in. Our peugeot 306 is like that and I can't use my flush fitting usb charger in it.
Phil
Thanks for that.
The lighter works fine. I have been browsing Renault information fora and it seems likely that, unless someone comes up with "this is the one I use and it works", I will have to change the lighter socket, French ones being of a different size to UK ones in a car that age. Bizarre.
That's odd!
They probably did it just to annoy us brits!
