how do I get rid of the T-Mobile Branding on MDA Pro? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have bought the MDA Pro from T-Mobile. They have changed the phone-interface to a pretty ugly pink-gray branded t-mobile interface.
is there a chance to get rid of this without unlocking the phone?
does it vanisch by unlocking it?
any clue?
thanks!

dont know tmobile but if it's a today theme then you can just change it in system->today
and not the only thing unlock does is make it possible for people to use any sim in their phone unlocking dont change installed programs or settings

i have tried that already, but it seems as if the phone skin is locked by t-mobile somehow. i have already tried to upload different skins, but it always remains the same.
I suggest the phone skin is part of the t-mobile branding an can only be removed by unlocking the phone...
or by replacing it manually, but i have no clue how to do that.

if it's only the phone skin and not the pda skin then use the skin chooser here
http://www.yorch.net/apps.htm
if it's the whole pda then you can
1 remove the today items from tmobile
in the 2th tab in system today items
2 remove any tmobile ref from the \windows\startup dir

Hi !
Can you please tell me if the size of the "Z" key is the same as the "Y" key. I want a german version but i want to switch the letters afterwards.
Thanks.

to decebal:
yes the buttons have the same size.
to Rudegar:
I have already tried to change the skin with skin chooser 7 and
some other programs (have forgotten their names) but as i I "activate" or "applie" the new skin it always shows the phone with its old t-mobile skin. Nothing happens....
It is also impossible to remove the today theme, because the delete button is not clickable and i cannot finde the *.tsk file anywhere.
there is also no startup.dir or any file/folder that sounds like im on the right way.
At least I have now found (i think so) some of the *.pngs containig the button grafics. i will try to replace them with my own buttons...
They are in the windows folder called indialer_xxx
(e.g.: indialer_ps.png)
If there are any better suggestions i am very happy, otherwise i will have to change each button by hand (sounds a bit cheesy)
we will see if that may work.

hehe...should have thought about that before....the phone images are *.bmps, so i was able to change them manually with photoshop, but i can't upload them because the files are protected (or still in use by the phone in background). so now I have very cool buttons, but the only thing I can do with them is pin them on my wall
so there must be another more professional way, but I have no idea wich.
maybe you have some suggestions...

sometimes you need to softreset your phone after having used the skinchooser program maybe that helps
odd if you dont have a dir in the windows dir called startup
all pocketpc's i've seen have that
guess you could also unlock and unhide the external rom and remove the tmobile stuff you dont want
i've used that skin chooser device on both 2002 and 2003 but non of the later versions...

i would load another rom in it

I would if I could find out how this works on the new windows mobile 5.0...
if you know where I could find some reference for it it I would be greatful.
maybe its just to early to ask for such things, in a few month there will be lots of stuff in the net.
patience was never my strong side though.

how what works on 2005 ?
phone skin choosing ?
buzzdev.net is a good place to check out if you want 2005
if you install 2005 you will not see special odd tmobile colouring anymore

Got my new English MDA PRo ...

... but want to make some changes. Is someone who nows how to:
*remove the T-Mobile coloured dialer pad (phone pad) and changes the colours back to the original Windows Mobile colours
*remove the T-Mobile logo and put back the normal operator name. I am going to have the SIM unlocked, but he point is that even if I use Vodafone the operator name is the T-Mobile logo
If the above can be solved by not installing a part of the extended rom (but I do ot know what part), than please advise me. Maybe I have to change to the Qtek ROM when available. Can I just delete the extended ROM in WM5?
Hoogerhuis,
1: Hard reset your MDA Pro, reset it when it says that it starts installing the additional applications
2: Download the following file ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/mda_pro_eng_nl_extrom.zip, copy the contents to an SD card, and on your MDA PRO install all the cabs *except* TMO_NL_UI_0727_signed.CAB which contains the User Interface for T-Mobile.
** Do not launch the exe files or autorun.exe, or it will install everything out of the extended rom.
Actually I was wrong about the file that does the T-Mobile dialer skin etc. The file that should not be installed manually is:
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB,
(I justed tested and confirmed that myself
Wiz, many thanks. I indeed tested it myself also and saw which one was the problem. You could use the i-Mate jasjar version of that file, although I don't know what that file does besides changing the dialer skin.
Are you also Wiz at PocketPC-club.nl (now PocketInfo.nl)?
No, installing the Jasjar equivalent will not set it back to default. The Jasjar uses the standard WM5 dialer skin and therefore does nto need to customize it.
The Jasjar file only contains the Ringtone Player plugin, the T-Mobile one contains the Ringtone Player plugin + the TMO Dialer skin
I now have an internally unbranded MDA PRO. The only thing is that I miss the IntelliDialer and can not access the smartdialing options. What is the trick here ...
yeehaa! that's exactly what i was looking for!
This thread made me donate since i was looking for exactly this solution for so long!
I've already tried it and it works perfect.
now the only thing i still need is a today & dialer Theme (for the universal) that rocks (just like the halo theme - does anybody know where to get it?)
How did you get the MDA pro English? I just called them and they can't even say exactly when it will be available to buy here.
Cheers,
Joe
Hi guys,
next time: to remove dialer pads from brands: just change your register! or get some advancedconfig freeware. all done in a jiffy.
Greetings from the fats lane
C.
I just installed the customised dial pad .CAB and it looked rather lovely...
As far as the rest - plenty of into in these forums, just have a good search.

Orange Homescreen on non orange phone? (customization)

hello to all
I installed Orange Homescreen on my WM5 blue-angel.
It it by far the cleanest plug-in I've ever used! Two problems though:
1. The URLs seem to be hard coded - anyway of changing that?
2. On the contacts "tab" there is an option for speed dial, but it generates an error when I try to use it - is there some other CAB I need to install?
Thank you!
Hi AdmiralAK,
I love the Orange today plugin too, but have had a lot of trouble installing it on the other Rom's for my Universal. Can you tell which files you used to install it :?:
As for the problems your having:
1. The URL's can be changed by editing the Full_one.xml file.
But your still limited to four.
2. In the Orange Rom, some of the files have a lower case t prefix.
Try changing renaming your speed dial executable. It might work
Thanks!
I downloaded the homescreen cab from somewhere on this board (this was a few days ago so I am not completely sure). I found two versions. One was in the ftp://xda-developers.com/Universal/Extended_ROMs/Orange Extended ROM/
(this one I did not install because I had the otherone already installed)
(ok after a little looking I found it)
I am actually using the Orange Homescreen from the Orange SPV M3100 (hermes device) - this is the one that is installed on my Blue angel and it works without a problem. --> I am attaching it.
(I apologize to the forum for postnig the same file again - I cannot find the link to it)
----
As for the speed dialer - I don't think I have the application installed on my blue angel (I am using the 1.3beta rom from HELMI and I don't seem to be able to find it) in my device - any idea where to get it?
Also, is the XML file that I need to edit in the windows/ directory?
Thanks
google tells me that the full_one.xml file is in my windows directory...but I dont see it :-/
The CAB from the Orange Ext ROM is just the reg settings, its no good without the files from the Orange ROM.
I'll try the file you posted this weekend [if I get the chance] :?
Yes, the XML file is in the Windows folder.
It works inconjuction with the HomeScreen.dll, with some icons stored in contactsico.dll.
I've added these files and the prefixed t files from the Windows folder of my Universal, I hope they're useful.
Have you tried the file ?
Hmm.. performing back up now.. and going to try it out. Hope it is easy to uninstall.
[UPDATE]
Ok, tested out the plugin. It is a nice plugin. Make your phone more like a phone than a PDA. It gives you one hand operation by using the direction buttons, making calls and stuff. However, since it will disable all other plugins, I won't recommend others whom uses Today calendar plugins such as Pocket Breeze, TodayAgenda, TodayPlus, etc.. to use this orange plugin. Uninstall is easy.
Screen shot of it here http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article569.html
under the section `INSIDE`. It is the same for smart phone and pda phone. You will see all the options available. And the 'Today' option actually sends you to the (built in) Calendar day view.
Hi, have you used the cab file and zip file above ?
Ok, I tried the plugin posted here by AdmiralAK, on my Universal.
First thing I noticed was it actually ran on the O2 ROM.
Second thing was how small the icons are compared to the plguin built into the Orange Universal ROM.
But I guess that makes sence as the screens are very different sizes. More importantly must of the plugin works fine.
I'm sure a little editing would probably have it all working.
What I did notice is its totally different to the Universal plugin, none of the files i've edited to get the universal version working the way I want it to, exist in this version. Hence the Full_one.xml, t* and .bmh files are not in the Windows folder.
I've gone back to the Orange ROM, as I have it running the way I want and the bigger icons are easier to use on the Universal. But i'll be keeping this version as I may get a TyTn next year.
Cool program. But too bad, limited customizable.
Hi people,
Great software, I was looking to try this on my MDA Vario. Too bad of it's limitations. Good to try out and see how it works.
Though I was thinking of visually designing a kind of similar application and find some great developers on this site to help me create it. Of course if anyone is interested in this kind of functionality.
Anyone already interested? let me know. i hope to have some draft ideas on here in the form of screenshots as soon as possible. but now it's diner time see ya.
Cheers,
Shah.
I have tried editing the 'full_one.xml' file, then soft reset....however it hasn't changed anything...
did i miss something?
Hi guy,
I've tried to resize the icon of plug-in and it's ok in portrait but no in landscape, I think it's a registry problem for landscape.
I'd like to use the plug-in on no orange rom.
I'll find the way to get more than 4 custom option but i get without icon.
The file full_one.xml is linked with other file of the orange rom so I think that's one problem.
@Shah2,
I'd be interested in a plugin like this, that has a few more options [see below] and works on all ROM's.
I have no programing skills or abilities, but i'd help out where I can.
@minty1978,
The Full_one.xml file only lets you edit the Labels and the URL's in the plugin.
@filippodisvevia,
I'd like to use the plug-in on a none Orange ROM too.
Then I wouldn't have to kepp hiding my Universal from the IT guys at work.
The 3 things I'd like to change on the plugin are:
1. Have more than 5 URL's in the Web section.
2. Have more than 4 programs in the Launch section.
3. Have all seven sections appear on the screen [at least in portrate mode][/i]
I'm a littlebit busy but I want resolve this match.
Stay tuned
Concept Orange Homescreen Pimped Beta 0.1
Hi people,
I told ya that I was interested in making the Orange Homescreen even better than it is at the moment.
THESE ARE PURELY PHOTOSHOP MOCKUPS!
Image number 1 shows the use of today plugin as we know them. It's just to give an example. All the other screens speak for themselves.
If anyone has his/her own ideas please share them in this thread. I would also like to draw the attention of developers who might be interested in creating this for real, and not just some photoshop images, please let me know.
Cheers,
Shah
Hi Shah,
Thats way more complex, than I was looking for.
But, If this was to be built as a new plugin, hopefully it could be scalable, using a .ini or .xml file. Like the real Orange plugin does. 8)
The only I don't really like, is the other plugins showing as in pic.1.
I have other plugins switched on while i'm at work, and the Orange one at night. I find the empty desktop more relaxing.

Hi ZaForD
The complexity is actually quite limited. Because if you use the plugin most of the options are the same. Most of the items are just additions to the rest of the plugin.
And for the pic 1. I can image it's not that nice. But with input we can work on making it more general so that people will like it.
Personally I would like to have the standaard Today screen plugins visible because they are still usefull.
It's also a possibility that all the items are configerable to meet users needs. For example standaard options like the original homescreen for users that want the basic functionalities, and advanced options for users who want more options. so that every page is user configerable.
Anything is possible in Photoshop haha. but seriously if there are any developers who are interested please leave a note.
Cheers,
Shah
I stopped using the plugin - no matter how much I liked it - because it did not show me tasks tat need to be done.
I would be interested in something more complex than it is now (at least show me my tasks) but maybe not as complex as the mockups. scalability would be cool
What do you think he is trying to do?

Any updates on this?
I have a Prophet and tested the plugin, however there are some things that I can't edit (cause I don't have an Orange ROM)...

Two Irratating today buttons

I downloaded the LG Today plugin as i liked it very well it also works as promised by the developer! but i can not get rid of the two buttons no matter what!
i can understand from searching using the search function (so DONT accuse me of ignoring it) that you could get rid of it using a Reg Edit software but i have never dared to mess with my regisary (due to past experiances it reg on xp!)
Could Someone please tell or show me what to do!
removing system tray
i'm trying to do the same on my orbit 2
so far i've found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368836&highlight=remove+tray
but can't find a registry editor thats free.
ps: dont worry about changing your regisrty, just do things one step at a time and if you do mess it up theres alwasy the "hard reset" option.
update: ok found this registry editor. it runs on your pc and is a real time editor for the ppc registry (you can even do a full backup of your ppc registry). still trying to figure out how to remove the tray icons.

system tray bar
Hey pal, i've tried a few different things and found out that the prog in question is called o2c.exe (thats on my device anyway, maybe the same on the hermes). I found a thread that said rename the "o2c.exe" and replace it with "dciNobar.exe" renamed to 02c.exe, I tried this but it got rid of the soft keys (not what i wanted), so i just renamed 02c.exe to 02c_orig.exe (in file explorer), soft rest my device and hey presto no system tray, all that popped up was an error message saying it can't find o2c.exe or it is not trusted.
btw added these two little proggies (within zip) and my phone is now super sexy.
"but can't find a registry editor thats free."
odd i cant even mention one thats not free

or total commander it's free too

whats going on here

Hi all,
please excuse the vagueness of this post.
I have just been given a tp2 as a replacement to my td2
My wife also has the tp2 which she got a year ago
the whole look of the phone (software ) is totally diferent
for instance the program page used to list a few progs (your choice) and then you had to hit all progs to get them up.
i am guessing that its a different rom or different version of sense?
also how do i change/edit/remove some programs from the list?
cheers guys
you'll need a registry editor to get the job done here, you can find that in the Theme's and apps section, i'll be back with a link, but you have to navigate to --
HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu
and where you see
EnableManilaStartMenu = 1
change the one to a zero and restart the phone, should work.
thanks for that
sorry to be thick but does that just enable me to move the prog icons or delete the progs as well
appreciate the help

You don't need to edit the registry to turn off Manila. This is easily done from the Today settings.
hi got a regedit prog
but i gat as far as

also on the today screen there is no mention of manilla jut htc sense
all i really want to do is lose all the stupid pre loaded progs

Different issues, my friend. Sense is the UI (aka Manila versions 2.1 and 2.5) you see when you start the phone. It is on by default, but you can turn it off in the Today setup and use the much less memory intensive standard Window Mobile screen. Go into the Today setup and turn off Sense by removing the check mark in the list and putting a check mark on Windows Default.
As for the bloatware that comes with the phone, anything on the ROM can not be removed except by flashing a new ROM. You can delete shortcuts from your start menu for programs you don't/won't use, but the programs will still be there. Do a search for Crud Scraper, a neat little tool that can 'remove' stuff from specific phone models (it worked great on my Tilt 2). Beyond that, read up as much as you can on modding your phone. This place is a great resource. Unfortunately, easy answers are hard to come by. You have to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty.

has the rom on my phone been modded?

Hi all
Just received a touch pro 2 as a replacement for my defunct TD2
My wife also has one of these( she got hers a year ago)
not only is the whole look of the phone different ( particularly the icons of the prog page etc) but my version has a radio on it ( i had to use a cab from here to get hers working)
I am curious if mine has a an updated os or wonderif it is a refurbed model and someone has modded the stock rom
easiest way to describe the difference between the icons is that the older model has icons in square boxes ( like my TD2) whereas the newer model the icons are just images.
the other thing i am desperate to do is to get rid of the mass of programs on the program page ( or at least the short cuts) I know crud scraper is out ther but doesnt help me on my phone ( touch pro 2)
thanks in advance
Some screenshots would be helpful.
As for the programs on the Start page, just fire up Total Commander and delete or move them as needed. You can't delete the actual programs in ROM they link to, but you can certainly delete the shortcuts.
thanks for that
will get some shots in the daylight ( cam flash messing up)
any links on total commande at all
is it a spb prog
thanks
Here's the version of TC that I have. It's an .exe, so you have to Unzip it to a folder and then run it while connected via Active Sync to install it from the PC.

I'm sure actual screen captures/shots would be better than taking a picture of the screen using another camera!
Here are 2 good screen capture programs: CapSure. Shake and Save.
hi guys
I have attached a screen shot of the program files page if that helps
one final thing is having downloaded total commander how do i use it to delete the program icons ( appreciate i cant delete the actula progs)
sorry i know i am being a bit thick but could do with some help
Navigate to the Start Menu folder in the \Windows folder. From there you can go into the various subfolders (Programs, Tools, etc.) and delete the .lnk file for the program you no longer want to appear in the menu. Or you can Move them to different folders in the Start Menu. For instance, I like to have anything having to do with phone setup in the Tools Folder.
thanks for that
What model did you buy versus what you wife has? Is it carrier branded (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.) or unlocked Euro version?
Carriers heavily customize the interface for their own branded versions, so that may account for the difference you are seeing on the Start page. Hiding the FM Radio was also one of the carrier differences.
When you boot your phone, the red numbers that are displayed on the boot screen, what do they say? This may indicate if the phone was flashed with a custom ROM.
Also, a lot more info is needed for us to help you. Where did you buy the new phone? From the carrier or other source (eBay, Craigslist, etc.). You are saying you are afraid its a refurb. If you bought it from a carrier, they are not going to send you a refurb with a custom ROM. First thing they do when they get a phone for warranty repair is check to see if the ROM has been tampered with.
Thanks guys for all your help
I have realised that all it is is that the phone is running wm6.5 which is totally different
( boy do I feel a fool)
I have also managed to sort out the excessive clutter on the programs start page thanks to the advice of Miami_son
