MDA Pro and the bundled Ext Rom apps - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi,
I want to know if:
1. Any are necessary, or useful to install.
2. If any of them slow the device down
Just got my MDA Pro on first charge now, and I am thinking of hard resetting and then doing a soft reset to bypass the customising, but don't know if I will miss out on anything worth having.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe
You can allways install the extrom later by downloaden the extended roms of the Imate and MDA-pro and choosing the cabfiles you want to install.
I did it that way.

Yes, it's simply knowing which files are which, eg: which one has MSN on it?
Is there any way of finding out which cab does what?

msn is nog in the extended rom
msn is nog in the extended rom because if you cancel the installation of the extended romfiles MSN is already installed

So, the ext rom on a MDA Pro actually removes MSN mobile? Is that what you are saying here?

No I'm saying that if you skip the install of the extended rom msn is already installed so its part of the normal rom update.

Thanks for the clarification. I am avoiding updates for a few days as I am in a trial period wiht the device and can't decide if 40mb/month is enough.
If I keep it, then the update seems to be the way forward.

Extended Roms

Extended Roms???? ok i am a total n00b can anyone explain to me what these are or what you do with them?
Or at lease point me to a tutorial or info?
I also would like someone to explain what the kitchen is for?...............(& dont say cooking food ....)
any help point in the right direction would be a big help...
Thanx PPL
This is in the Wiki, I learnt from there.
Just for you, because you asked nicely, the extended ROM is what is loaded onto the phone that is non-essential to operation (basically, anything that isn't the operating system). When you hard reset, and then it starts installing software after boot; that's your extended ROM being loaded.
A lot of people make their own because they don't like/want/need the software in the extended ROM (see: O2 Active, iMate bundling Skype).
The whole cooking thing I don't really get either, I think it's just another word for rolling your own extended ROM.
Chris
Lewisham..
thanx for your help heading on over to wiki now to look a lot harder.
Cooking is all about customising your extended ROM to include the files and registry settings you want straight away after a hard reset. You will need to cook an extended ROM if you want to upgrade to 1.40 and keep your operator settings for GPRS etc.
Hi guys,
I only found this site a couple of days ago and I have already unlocked my XDA2s, stripped the O2 software, and tried out a few little tweaks.
However, I am really not confident enough yet to do anything more serious, despite being an IT & Communications engineer.
Could you please help me? I am looking for your latest ROM version to use on my XDA to completely remove the O2 stuff, hence stopping it attempting to install software after a reset. I am also missing some useful utilities, such as the battery monitor etc.
Are there any extended ROMs readily available for anyone to use, with some useful programs/utilities included?
I have looked at the wiki but don't really know what I am doing!!
Many thanks,
Bret
Oh, and I forgot to ask... is there anything available to debrand the XDA2s? I would love to stop it displaying the O2 start-up screen.
Maybe there should be an XDA-Developers start-up screen instead.
If you look through the wiki you can cusotmise your extended ROM to whatever, I ontice you have an xda 2s with vodafone- have you got any installation files (CABs) that set up GPRS, MMS for Vodafone? If not, there are cab files that are easy to add to your extended ROM, the files are here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13498&highlight=orange+mms+settings
Other useful files are things like Pocket MSN and Resco Explorer, which you have to buy, along with O2 Plus (free download - search for it, I haven't got a link!)
If you wan to make sure all the o2 rubbish is gone for good, check out the Extended ROM kitchen , find your ROM version and then unlock your extended ROM and delete all the Operator Customization CABs that install all that O2 crap.
If you want to change the startup images (better known as splash screens) have a look here...

Hi Findus,
That's brilliant, thank you. My images have been changed and the only thing O2 now is the fascia which I can't do much about unfortunately.
I have also installed the Vodafone GPRS settings but none of them work for me, not even the straight forward dialup connection. Not sure why but the same error every time just says "No modem at this location" or something like that.
Many thanks anyway, I'm much happier now. I just need to find the correct iMate ROM. The only one I can see in the Wiki is the Asian one. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
Cheers, Bret
Relative newbie to this forum extrom Version editing
How can I edit my version numbers of the extrom now that I have it the way I want(sorta)?
One other other question, I have all the registry settings for my personalizations, how to I place those in the Extrom to be invoke after a hard reset. Do I create a cab file for this like the other programs or can I just exec REGEDIT4 personalized.reg? I also can not seem to find where the speed dial entries are stored.

MDA PRO English Extended Rom for NL uploaded

I uploaded the extended rom for the MDA PRO English. Nice touch, it contains Dutch T9.
it's in the upload directory, called mda_pro_nl_extrom.zip
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/mda_pro_eng_nl_extrom.zip
(adding it to this post gave an error message)
This file is only 1.5 MB?
I suppose it is not the full ROM image. What does it contain?
I am trying to revive a dead JasJar and wondering if this is the correct thing to load.
It is the Extended ROM, not the OS Rom, and will therefore only contains the English T-Mobile additions.
hi its only 1.28 mb..im guessing its not the full version.. can you poist teh full version tahnbks
@ Wiz,
would you know the actual application name of these cabs? I'm just wondering what are the included apps that are not in JasJar
** dont want to run each cab to see what's worth it or not
thanks!
How did you access to the extended rom? I tired to access to it in order to remove the Arabic support of my JasJar, but I cannot get it, the soft of my 9090 do not seems to work
Thanks !
I used www.ghisler.com Total Commander for PocketPC and typed in \Extended_Rom\ in the command line and pressed enter. I then copied everything to storage card
Could you please indicate which one installs the T-Mobile coloured dialer skin?
Another thing: there is no difference in available memory (both program and storage) after a hard reset with installing T-Mobile extended ROM or wihout installing extended ROM. This could be the case due to the fact that the installed software has approximately the same size as the CAB-files. As I have no access to the Extende ROM (nor Windows folder via ActiveSync) I am afraid that I am missing valuable memory after installing from the file of Wiz and that somewhere the CAB files still exist on my device. Does someone know where I can find (and delete) the Extended ROM and which CAB-files I should install and what the meaning is of each CAB-file?
Many thanks in advance

Ok it works thanks, but... it is on "read only" cannot erase some stuff
The Extended rom currently cannot be "unhidden" or "made writable". We need the experts from XDA Developers for this .... The only thing you can currently do is copy them to a storage card and install them manually.
Incidentally I was wrong about the file that does the T-Mobile dialer skin etc. The file that should not be installed manually is:
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB,
(I justed tested and confirmed that myself

Best Universal ROM for T-Mobile

Now, the question is, now I am free of O, what is the best ROM to use on T-Mobile on my M5000.
I have already upgraded the Radio ROM to 1.09 and will be keeping that...
I have a few of Lines of thought...
1. Leave it as it is (Orange ROM) and just change all the settings.
2. Install the latest IMATE ROM
3. Install the latest IMATE ROM and use the T-Mobile extended ROM rather than the IMATE one.
4. Install the latest IMATE ROM and use the Orange extended ROM rather than the IMATE one.
5. Something completely different, as suggested by yourselves!
I have to say, I am not completely confident about modifying extended ROMs, otherwise I might go for the imate ROM, but remove backgammon, skype, and the virus checker if that was the best option?
What do you guys think?
Someone must have an opinion? There must be someone who has jumped from Orange to T-Mobile recently, with the unlimited data plans?
donnot install t-mobile extended ROM because then it gives errors. Just install Complete iMate (Rom + Extended Rom + Radio) version that is the best way to do it and also u can cancel extended rom if u want during installation and with Buzz's Unlock extended rom u can then unhide the extended ROM and then u can delete files which u donnot need and then Autorun. In this way u can have some free space in extended rom to install things : Best choice is for me because of its satbility and speed :
Complete installation of iMate
Problem is with the imate ROM you are missing lots of settings which are req'd for using T-Mobile (e.g. MMS).
You could as well install the very latest T-Mobile ROM (1.30.113 released today in German, guess English will come VERY shortly). Supposedly it's not noticably slower than the Qtek ROM.
Or you go with the iMate ROM without any Extrom and take John Does ultimative T-Mobile Cab: http://www.ppc-welt.tv/community/showpost.php?p=649264&postcount=27
This gives you all T-Mobile settings plus a little tweaking and some extra stuff.

WM6 and TomTom

Hi,
I have a french HTC P3300 that is delivered with TomTom.
Unfortunately, TomTom is included in the WM5 rom.
I would like to flash to WM6 but will I loose TomTom?
If yes, can i retrieve it in any way with the serial number?
Or is there a way to dump my WM5 rom with TomTom to be able
to downgrade to the original form in case of problem?
My HTC is not locked on any provider, I bought it on amazon.
Thanks

I would have thought that Tom Tom comes on a micro sd card rather than as part of the rom.
Otherwise any update now or in the future would be futile as you will lose it.
Has the phone got a memory card in it?
If yes use active sync to browse to the storage card
do you see any cab files for tom tom on there?
let me know and I wil try and help.
alternatively contact tom tom and tell them your serial number and I have been told you can download tom tom software free but just need serial number to use it and also have the maps.
Finaly if it indeed is stored on the phone are you sure it isnt on a disc of some sort that cam with the device.
I will try and help whre possible but give more detail in your post. ie what you have tried etc
magpie2000k, I baught my micro sd seperately so I donn't think that i'll find any cab on it exept the one of the tomtom upgrade. I am at my office and don't have activesync here, i'll try when I get home this evening.
I have a cd delivered with my phone, and with a wm5 sn on it, could it be a restor disc? how can i check if there is in fact the install for tomtom on it?
DrakkoFR, i'll stay in english as it is the rule of the forum. The official install could be interesting. I don't have it so i would be interested in it. But how can I register on the TomTom site for futur updates? And yes, i don't know if the maps will be recognised.
Tank you both for your answers.
The easiest way:
copy all the files from \Program Files\Navigator to Storage Card\Program Files\Navigator.
After flashing just create shortcut (using i.e. resco Explorer).
This will keep all your settings and maps activation. And you will save up some space and a time...
I done like this and it works on my xda orbit.
There is no need to install tomtom any more.
How to upgrade to WM6 and keep supplied TomTom

There is a working solution nicktheshaft, I use this to run tomtom all the time no problems, and it basically allows you to run tomtom from the memory card with no instal to your p3300, saving about 5mb of ram also.
1-With your WM5 rom loaded simply copy the folder tomtom from your p3300 (my device/program files) to your memory card root, (the folder should contain tomtom navigator.exe, data chk file etc.)
You can test this by uninstalling tomtom after you have copied the tomtom folder to sd card, then running tomtom from this folder on sd card, i.e tomtom navigator.exe
You then upgrade to WM6 and create a shortcut from the folder on your memory card (create a shortcut from tomtom navigator.exe in this new location on your memory card, and put it in my device/windows/start menu/programs), you will then be able to assign a button to launch tomtom from the settings menu.
thank you all for your advises...
I think I am soon going to flash to WM6 )
Is the flash easy? Do I just run the update or must I Unlock the CID knowing that my HTC is not operator locked?

Mate you must run USPL first then your rom of choice.
USPL removes the CID problem and then flashing should be a breeze.
Note that when flashing with USPL you device will return to what apperas to be a normal state (ie it lokks no different and has all contacts etc intact.)
This put me off at first because I couldnt see that there was any difference. I have now flashed a number of devices and used USPL over 30 times and not once have I had any problem at all. If in doubt read the idiots guide thread I think about half way down on the first page is a full written process of how to do it. Follow it and all will be well.
I am using B&B 3.7 from Tom and it is great has no issues with TOMTOM working. yes it has one or two very minor bugs that irritate rather than annoy. But these are certainly acceptable for the benefits of the WM6 and the rom interface that it has.
Photo contacts is a dream.
Shortcuts to everything you need. I very rarely use the stylus now even my fat fingers can navigate through and it becomes a truely one handed device.
When I had original rom i had to use stylus all the time. Thanks to Tom that to some extent is a thing of the past. Still use stylus for writing texts and emails but thats about it.
good luck and I am sure you will not be dissapointed.
Maybe i'll give it a try.
What are these little bugs?
Does the VOIP work on this version?

Questions questions questions
The bugs are minor.
In the dial pad you have to go into call history to redial last number. There is a fix but you lose the lovely large buttion dial pad I beleive (its no great shakes.)
when typing a phone number iut is green in dial pad and not easy to see what you have typed. again very livable and probably a fix somewhere ie a registry tweak or something. As I normally dial numbers of people in my address book it very rarely causes me a problem.
The others for what they are I cant remember you tend to find work arounds that in time become the norm and then arent bugs at all if you catch my drift.
I dont believe you will regret it.
VOIP works for me
thanks magpie2000k, i'll give it a shot this evening if i have time.

yes, it always is. just don't forget to flash your device first with pof's USPL. then you can flash it with any rom you want. what french rom do you have? is it htc french rom? or m650? with the htc rom you may not have any probs, but i'm not really sure with m650, it usually has problems with gps functionality when flashing with a different rom. but just to be on the safe side, it is always useful to have a backup of your original rom, incase something goes wrong.
and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER forget.... number one rule: ALWAYS flash your device with pof's USPL each time you want to flash your device with another ROM.

Are you sure it has one? It might be a Big Storage ROM.
huh no i'm not shure...
I've saw thats theres a anti-theft programm names IIWPO.
In the Installation Guide i have to put it into the extended ROM. How can i install it without the extended Rom? I can install it by windows, but after a Hardreset it will be ereased too isn't it?

True but for that you need an extended ROM. From what I know, bepe's last ROM does not have an extended part.
But you might ask him about this.
Also, from what I know, IIWPO is for Wizard, so you might check on info regarding Trinity compatibility.
ok thanks for the answers. I'm new with this windows mobile phones
Do you know an other Program like IIWPO?
