XDA 2s Firmware 28th Feb 2005 / WM5 NOOB. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

NOOB QUESTIONS
Looking on www.o2.co.uk site i got this firmware dated 28th Feb 2005.
v1.31.139 are:
O2 Active v3.6:
I'm sure I have a June 2005 link to newer firmware. Just checked with FINDUS he recommend iMate 1.40 FW and or WM5 beta
Is the new firmware for XDA an MSN PPC2003 / WM5 upgrade? or a specific chip software rewrite with nothing to do with MSN PPC2003 / WM5? or both?
Which firmware works best with WM5? for UK o2 XDA2s?
or would it be better to wait for the WM5 BUGS to be ironed out and install firmware best suited to latest PocketPC2003? if so what firmware is best for PPC2003 and where can i get that?
Will WM5 work with: TOMTOM5 navigator, PocketMusic, Pocket Skype? and will it generaly be ok for one year old software? many thanks choppidge.

Hi,
You sound a bit confused! The O2 official update on their website is probably the operating system you are running right now. It is WM 2003 SE 1.31 and is an older version than the imate 1.40, which has the later bluetooth stack and windows mobile 10 built in. The wm5 for blueangel is getting a lot more stable now, but it still has too many bugs for me so I am sticking with the imate 1.40 ROM. O2 have yet to release a 1.40 version of the ROM, although they are supposed to be doing so soon, with Blackberry support as well, but don't hold your breath for an official WM2005 ROM from O2, it almost certainly will not happen.
Hope this helps,
Fin

Yes I am confused! but slowly i am learning, thanks for your help. I hope to upgrade today hopefully not to a paper weight, I have backed up everything so dont mind trying a few different ROMs, I will be reading the wiki very carefuly.
I will be using Skype which comes supplied with imate 1.40 ROM.
I need to learn how to stream audio via a random Wifi connection.
I will be using WMP10 and PocketMusic also TOMTOM5 and a good Icon Bar / Task Manager. Upgrades or downgrades to camera software may be needed.

1.40 ROM for XDAIIs

Does anybody have a copy that I can have which involves not messing with and that I can flash to my XDAIIs with no country error and no o2 stuff on it so it looks like the i-mate :?:

Dude do what this say's.
I've just done it: UK XDA IIs, on Orange network, running i-mate 1.40 ROM.
Slightly going OT...
I am quite keen to do the upgrade from my standard O2 XDA2s 1.31.00 WWE ROM, but I am a little unsure on what 1.40 ROM to download from WIKI. I think I need:
i-mate 1.40.176
I know my device is a Blue Angel, Rom as above, extended ROM as 1.31.139 WWE
Can anyone confirm the correct download please?
Also, has anyone had any problems installing on XDA's the same as mine?
I have read the install tutorial, but would like to get an idea of if I am going to run into problems.
Oh, one more thing... What advantage does ROM 1.40 have over my existing ROM apart from bug fixes (oh please! daily lockups!!!)?
Many, many thanks.
O2 XDAIIs Upgrade
I used the i-mate 1.40.176 upgrade for my O2 XDAIIs. All in all its pretty stable, with only the Bluetooth stability (memory issues and BT Manager & Settings "disappearing") as the main issue. Much better than the O2 1.31 ROM (will they ever get that 1.40 update out...!?) You will need to use the "MAUpgrade" rather than "BAUpgrade" utility, as the 1.40.176 ROM was built for the i-mate rather than the xda2s.
One problem I did have with this ROM at the start, was that GPRS would not stay connected. This seems to be a sporadic problem among those that upgrade, but if you experience it after upgrading to this ROM, you can correct the problem by replacing the "CallerID" cab in the extended ROM with the older version (1.17) This version of the file is available on wiki also. This will involved unhiding and unlocking the Extended ROM and replacing the file. Look at the wiki instructions under Blue Angel for "Cooking Your First Extended ROM" That said, you may not experience this problem, so upgrade the ROM first and see how it goes.
All in all a much better ROM. I am trying the new O2 Asia WWE ROM with a modified extended ROM and this is also pretty good. Slighty better Wi Fi switch on and off in my opinion. This one is on wiki also, but you will probably need to "cook" the extended ROM here a bit more than the 1.40.176 version.
Hope this helps
Chris
Anybody tried the imate 1.40 rom on O2 XDA IIs purchased from Singapore?
I am facing problems to using any 'Today Plug-ins' like IP Dashboard, O2 Plus beta, Lexisgoo English dictionary etc. The problem is after say 30 minutes or after more, my keyboard input will only be selectable, cannot select CE-Star chinese keyboard or Intellipad.
What do I have on my O2 XDA IIs?
1. CE-Star
2. Intellipad and Intellidialler
3. Lexisgoo English dictionary
4. SKTools
5. Sprite backup standard
6. Cal89A calculator
7. MDict 1.21
and many more.
Please help anyone.
Thanks.
my exerience with this device and all the ROMS has been that the fewer Today plugins you have the better. SPB Pocket Plus V2.5 caused a lot of lock ups. Not sure about new version 3.0 Seems multiple Today plug ins cause conflicts. Hard to pinpoint all the interactions and what affects what... Not much help I am afraid :-[ I would just try to keep them to a minimum.
Regards
chris
You said it man!
I'm down to zero 'Today Plug-ins' now and it seems to keep my IIs from needing to 'soft reset'.
Any others from Singapore who had used the Imate 1.40 rom?
Two major problems that I am facing with 1.40 ROM include:
1. wifi can't be connected after disconnecting GPRS.
2. bluetooth problem (memory error) or storage card disappear after disconnecting BT.
Anybody experience these?

Me !!
I had used the Imate rom before but, there has been many casses of terrible lag. When i updated to 1.40 and radio to 1.13 wooo... just very very fast...
Installing the latest Pocketplus with my 1.40 ROM makes my device hard-reset itself.
I need a way of getting IE to be able to save pictures. Anyone know of an alternative way to do this?
I have no problem with pocketplus 3.0.
Which version you are using?
1.40 ROM has serius today screen problems with me too (That's why I still use 1.31).

I really want the mods it offers. (particularly 'save picture as' in IE).

o2 Exec ROM Now Available...

O2 Site Update with Exec ROM :
http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html
Is this a new ROM or O2 providing it as a download to fix peoples devices when they corrupt them?
well spotted a18041967!!!
Upload to XDA FTP server
Can an O2 user upload this rom to the xda-developers server please?
It's the initial release ROM, so it's the same as the one all XDA Execs are being shipped with.
It has (I checked):
OS 1.13.48 WWE (Older than Jasjar, which is 1.13.53)
Extended 1.13.139
Radio 1.04.02 (same as Dopod, was already on FTP)
you can enter any imei
do you think if i have the jas jar rom installed i will be able to override it with the exec rom
sure ... just use the patched exe for upgrade.
i'm thinking of using ROM from jasjar, ExtRom from O2 and the radio from O2
can someone tell us what's installed on the O2 exec by default ?
is it better or worse than the JasJar ?
The only thing that really is different from the Jasjar rom is the O2 Active UI, and we all know that is very unstable.
Most Exec users end up using basic or corporate install, which is comparable to pressing the reset button after a hard reset and thus bypassing the extended rom setup.
I did no different then anyone else in that matter. I selected basic install. The Jasjar OS also is a tad newer, so unless you are a sucker for the O2 layout and style, I'd say stick with the Jasjar.
(I'm a sucker for the O2 styling so I will probably end up combining the Jasjar OS and the O2 ExtRom ;-))
Just be aware: The Jasjar Extended rom will set your boot logo to the I-Mate one, the O2 Extended rom will NOT set it to the O2 one! It does not contain splash.nb files!
How to Update radio only to 1.04?

Just rename it to zip, extract it, delete ms_.nbf and nk.nbf (the only NBF file you need to leave is radio.nbf), use the MAUpgrade_NoID.exe file and flash your radio. You will not even lose your settings or installed programs
Ok, here's my findings so far, I took delivery of my XDA Exec and all was OK, foolishly I decided to upgrade to the Imate ROM.
After the upgrade I experienced continual problems connecting to my WiFi, and was unable to get the Wireless modem to work.
Today I reverted back to the o2 ROM, both the WiFi & Modem issues have been resolved.

Wiz,
I have the MDA PRO with JasJar ROM I have just upgraded to the Radio Version 1.04.02. Everything is fine. Now I have a QUestion:
If I hard reset my device and bypass the Extended ROM install does it mean tha my Boot screen will not become the one from imate ??. I thought the splash.nb files are in the ROM and not in the Extended ROM. I have tryed to find the Boot Screen image in the cab files of the JasJar Extende ROM and I can not find anything?
Any Ideas

Having just upgraded to the new imate ROM, I'm not sure what to do now. I have the mda-pro and am with T-Mobile, but going on the version numbers the T-Mobile ROM seems to be a downgrade.
Anyone trying the new ROM please share your experiences and advice.
Cheers,
Phil
Never mind...
I have downloaded the file and unpacked it, guess what :
All the files inside are from 2005, so we have an ancient ROM here. I hate t-MOBILE those guys are as usual with their heads up their bottoms.
If you have upgraded to the jasjar version do not under any circumstances upgrade to this version.
It does not contain AKU2 and as suspected is just the old German Tmobile version.
Just ran it on my mda pro....complete waste of time. Now need to re-upgrade to the Jasjar version.
Thanks.
This is the original t-mobile uk mda pro firmware not upgrad
See the comment and date
"This version is the first production release of the MDA Pro."
I check this link regularly for new files , originally the site claimed jan 06, but nothing yet.
Hoping and praying aku 2 and a2dp will be included hence the longer wait than other countries t-mobile isp's.

NO it is an update, mouse over the download, it's not a particularily new update, but it's much newer than the original ship rom from TMUK.
It's just that they haven't updated the text yet.
hanhha2000!
Thanx for the warning, and I am sorry you have to reflash your device
The Ext.ROM has a CAB file that says "TMo Streaming". Do you think its for A2DP?
Also, Asukal posted in another thread that this ROM does infact have A2DP and made screenshots to prove it. What do you guys think?
Can someone upload the Extended ROM to the FTP so we can try the Streaming cab file?
This is the file i am talking about:
Extended_ROM\TMO_Streaming_0729_Signed.CAB
hanhha2000!
If you did not reflash yourdevice with the JJ ROM can you let us all know what is the OS version on the "new" TMobile ROM

dunno about a2dp or how to go about finding out as i don't own a stereo headset...
FYI: windows mobile v5.0 OS 5.1.70 (Build 14409.1.1.2)
Rom version 1.20.32
Date 11/16/05
Radio 1.06.00
Protocol 42.40.p8
extrom 1.20.120
I have a hunch that the Streaming file mentioned above is the streaming media player that is on t-mo's rom.. looks like windows media player... and as yet i cant find a function for it.. It's only configured for rtsp:// files... whatever they are... may have been a idea to have a player that can pickup mms:// files .. eh... microsoft..
By the looks of things this is an old rom, the english version of the german rom released ages ago... I doubt it has any of the 'new' features.. but generally feels a lot more stable than the original shipped rom.
T-mo have updated there download page to reflect the new rom.. they even put a piccy of the mdapro up..
OS 5.1.70 (Build 14409.1.1.2) According to any source (like Microsoft mobile blog and Jason Landridge Blog) this version does not include neither AKU2 nor A2DP, so I am not sure what Asukal is showing us. Maybe it is something T-Mobile cooked on their own, a different BT stack ??

rtsp:// stands for Real Time Streaming Protocol
The advantage is that RTSP allows client to tell server to stop, play, pause etc. RTSP is a very popular broadcasting protocol for Real Player, for example.
Nice addition (if it works)!

To which rom should I update my Dutch TMobile MDA pro?

Hi!
I really feel like a newbie when i read all the posts about all the different rom versions, so can someone give me some advice which rom i should use to upgrade to?
I have a dutch TMobile MDA pro, which is still at the default rom:
ROM: 1.12.42 WWE (8/23/05)
Radio: 1.00.02
extRom: 1.12.125 WWE
I am experiencing problems with spontaneous hangs (which might have to do with 3rd party software, but the device itself isnt exactly stable)
but also the radio often just loses signal, which i can only fix by rebooting...
I want to upgrade, but i don't want to spend toooo much time on it. Is there a rom that offers better stability which is easy to install and configure?
Regards,
Casper
Try updating to the latest I-Mate Jasjar ROM. Very stable and fast. I too use a lot of 3rd party applications and games. This is my 3rd day of not experiencing any problem without doing a soft reset in the morning.
I prefer Orange ROM... both imate and orange are the same version though... only that Orange's ROM is released while Imate is still not released

ady, what made you say the I-Mate ROM has not been released yet? It is true there is a test version which came 2 weeks earlier than the one I am using now which is NOT the test version. Just curious.
Another question please about the NEW Orange ROM. Is it true that the vibrate is always ON and you can't turn it OFF?
I did it!
last week i gathered my courage, downloaded the JasJar rom, found the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe tool, pressed install, drank a cup of coffee, and was finished!
It went flawlessly! And my T-Mobile MDA Pro has never run smoother!
I couldnt (and wouldnt) have done it without this forum, so thanks guys!
Now its just waiting until there is a new stable rom with A2DP on it, and then i'll upgrade again!

I upgraded my mda pro to the latest t-mobile UK ROM straight out of the box. But even then I have the same problems with spontaneous hangs. And reading your success story I gathered all the files JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.exe and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to upgrade to the JasJar rom myself. But as complete newbie who is affraid to mess things up, did you do anything else except unzipping the ROM update and copying the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to that folder ? The reason why I am asking I read somewhere that you have to add [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 to the RUU.conf file.
Thanks in advance.
JASJAR rom works fine
My T-mobile mda pro NL arrived today and i almost immediately flashed it to Imate JASJAR firmware on the xda-developer ftp. I used the Universal_Upgrade_v1.30.68_radio_1.09.0.zip file which contains:
Rom 1.30.68 WWE
Radio 1.09.00
ExtROM 1.30.153
Protocol 42.42P8
and is dated at 08 february 2006.
This works fine and removes the ugly pink theme and adds some nice apps like skype after customizing. It also has an alternative contacts menu, which has skype integration. Pocket MSN (a not so nice app imho) is also included, although i use the new agile messenger beta.
The bootscreen mentions 'for testing only, not for sale' which might indicate that it is not a final (not sure though).
Thanks it works like a charm.
ROM 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date 20 february 2006
Radio 1.09.00
Protocol 42.42.P8
ExtROM 1.30.164 WWE
I'm using T-mobile UK version with 1.09 radio rom. This version INCLUDES the a2dp profiles, but no pushmail. You can use the blackberry connect software from german t-mobile site on the Universal. so you will have AND pushmail and A2DP.
http://www.pocketinfo.nl/artikel/5561
I think Imate rom is also a nice ROM.
Reading this topic en reading the instructions about bootloader, I have another question. In the instruction ist says to make a factory reset after loading the new ROM. Does this mean that all information in your MDA is wiped out and must be reloaded?
yes the machine is a complete naked beauty afterwards

D810 WM6 Upgrade on P3600?

Would P3600 owners who have upgraded to the D810 WM6 upgrade please post their experiences here.

Was it worth it or did you (or want to) go back to WM5?
Thanks
hi,
i have try to update my HTC P3600 with the oficial D810 WM6 rom!!!
result: i brick my phone!!! the rom update has stopped on 35%, and the PDA stop responding.
just recover it and go back to old ROM!
i will do it!!!
No problems to up and down
Hi, I upgrade to official ROM and any problems occurs, but I prefer PDAVIET Rom, then I downgrade the ROM and upgrade Radio to 1.46.30.11 and have all so far so good!
I hated everything about this ROM including the constant freezing of my Trinity. After 2 days I went back to AXEL's ROM and haven't looked back.
Updated yesterday morning with Dopod WM6 ANZ Rom and radio 1.46.30.11, and for me, it's paradize now...
Thanks for the replies! Anyone else with a positive experience?
I had problems with data connection with the ANZ Rom and Radio 1.46.30.11. Keeps disconnecting from the network Edge/HSDPA--could not use PIE or download email. However, with the SEA Rom and Radio 1.46.00.11 I had no problem. I think it's a Radio issue, at least for me on the USA Cingular/ATT network.

That brings up a good point. Has anyone tried this ROM on T-Mobile USA?
Fast and stable
I have the new aussie rom and the new radio rom 1.46.30.11 and it works perfect really fast and stable everything works...i am happy with it...
For those who successfully upgraded their P3600 to WM6, what technique did you use?
I tried doing a straight flash with ANZ ROM and was not successful. During the upgrade, the process stopped at 28%--similar to what some people have encounted. I got a screen with the new Bootloader 3.03.0000. In order for me to get out of that, I reflashed with a previous cooked ROM. It didn't flash through, but it did reset my Trinity.
While my Trinity is not BRANDED, I found that using the "HTC Trinity SIM CID Unlock" allowed me to successfully flash to the new ROM. I entered the device into the previous bootloader version 1.07.0000 prior to flashing.
As I've mentioned before, I had trouble with the radio version 1.46.30.11 with USA Cingular/ATT. I ended up using the SEA ROM with radio version 1.46.00.11 to flash the second time around.

Last night (14/7), I have upgrade my D810. No problem. According to the Guide, don't forget to take out MiniSD, battery is charged at least 50%, etc. In general the softwares for WM5 (Microsoft reader, Pocket e-Sword, Kevtris, etc) are compatible with WM6. Bass sound is good. I like WM6.
Thanks Thomas,
That's great information!
generally worked fine for me. I think mUns TE was more stable, but the battery discharging was annoying.
However a few issues:
1) Password for the web connection (GPRS) has vanished once or twice
2) Seems to lose GPRS data conenction once in a while
3) Biggest issue- the DEVICE ID has changed. This has messed up my TomTom Traffic subscription and TomTom support want a letter to prove this happened. ffs.
4) I think the main memory leaks away....
I finally decided to give WM6 a try on my P3600 but installed AX3L's all-in-one v2.0.8.1 ROM. It works well on T-Mobile's USA's network and is easy to install.
if the original rom gets stuck, what i did was flash to the original WM5 then reflash to the WM6 version.
I upgrade my D810 to WM6 and it cannot receive phone call using China mobile SIM card, used to work for the previous ROM update.
