PPCTechs screen protectors - Anti-Glare or Crystal Clear???? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

Hi,
Hi Guys.... just got myself an M5000 after telling Orange that they either upgrade me for free or Im leaving them!
Im looking for a good screen protector and have read on the forum that these are quite good. I had a crappy one on my XDAII and am looking to get a good one for my Universal.
Which of the following two would you get and why?
Anti-Glare
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=127386&asource=119353
Crystal Clear
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=127395&asource=119353
On this site they go over the differences:
http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~O2_XDA_Exec-500~area~accessories-WriteSHIELD%99+AG.htm
I want to know if you guys have tried these and know how much screen brightness you lose with the anti-glare version.... and which would be better.
thanks

I read somewhere that the ClearGaurd XP was the best screen protector, they had images too. I don't remember the link though. Because of that I bought a ClearGaurd XP screen protector, it should be here in a few days. The cool thing about them is that they are re-usable and washable.....
I got mine on eBay for 9 bucks

I have used both, and it is truly hard to choose.
Right now I am using the crystal clear. I miss the pencil-on-paper feel of the antiglare, but I don't miss the matted colours of the display.
On the other hand *my* crystal clear looks like sh*t because I am a complete klutz when it comes to installing these things. If you can follow a set of simple instructions and manage to not drop it on the carpet while trying to install it, the crystal just looks great. When you install it like I did, it looks like crap because every single piece of dirt under the thing shows in the glare. The antiglare is much more forgiving for idiot installers.
then there is the time I was installing a cpu on a motherboard, but that's a whole different story

I had the anti-glare version of WriteShield on my previous phone SE P900i - it was aweful!
I now have a crystal clear one on my Exec and it is much better visibility. This time I didn't buy WriteShield because the only version available at the time was way over the top pricewise. I suggest you shop around - I got mine for about 14 squids. I think the name was something like Martin.

[Q] How bad/good is the screen protector provided with case mate tough case.

Wondering if I should put a realook on order right now or just use the one provided? feedback please.
I ordered the Barely-There case, and since it's made by the same company I assume the SPs are the same.
I really, dislike mine. The screen protector was very hard to swipe without getting my finger stuck. It get's dirty, and smudgy. Plus, the SP is for the international Galaxy S, meaning they're unnecessary holes at the buttom.
I wouldn't recommend putting them on, because they're terrible.
Order the Realook now, because you will be much happier.

order it now! I have one on my vibrant, my son's ipod touch and my wife's iphone. The only flaw in my opinion is the fingerprints, but that can easily be fixed with a quick wipe from your shirt.
Go for the realook. You will not be disappointed.
Got my TC a few weeks ago, and was really looking forward to replacing the T-Mobile SP that I got for free the day I received the phone. I know what I had on it sucked, and like Sam V said, I was disappointed when the SP was not for the US market.
Instead I ordered the realook and I am frankly stunned by the improvement. Never having the opportunity to use it without a SP, I did not know what I was missing. So yeah, be like everyone else and get the TC and RL. Although I have never seen it posted here yet, I have been a lurker for sometime, buy a couple of two packs since there is a good chance of messing of the first try. If you have not done a SP before that is. I am glad I tried the 2nd one myself instead of going to the local T-Mobile looking like a noob ass, it went on fine.

Anti-Glare/Anti-Smudge screen protectors

Has anyone come across an Anti-Smudge/Anti-Glare screen protector for the 4G? I was looking for the ones that have a slightly textured feel to them. I've done a few searches and came up with only a couple and they were "cut to fit" or from someone that looked a little shady (had misspelled words in their advertisements). I have an XTREMEgaurd on there now that I'm not super happy with but it'll keep my screen safe until i get what I'm looking for. Thanks ahead for your help.

The T-Mobile Store took and used a G2 Anti glare Anti smudge and cut is slightly at the bottom and it looks and works great. I think the girl has done quite a few as she did a great job on mine. I would highly recommend this over the regular clear plastic ones.

I was just thinking about getting the XTREMEguard, why dont you like it? I thought it would be nice..plus it is supposedly 'very tough' "Military grade" material... please tell me a little feedback on that?....
BTW- are you looking for a S.P. which has a grippy texture? is that what you mean? I saw one on eBay which said it had a grippy texture....
Well i may end up giving the G2 screen protector a shot. Hopefully someone up there will be kind enough to cut it for me. I don't trust myself to cut it correctly lol. Thanks a lot for the info!
The problem i had with EXTREMEgaurd was that it had visible "grains", even after having it on there for 3 days. The "grains" ran length wise across the screen and it drove me nuts so I peeled it off yesterday. It is also thicker than my liking. It served its purpose though and was scratch resistant. I tend to be a little more particular than most people though so you may not notice the inequalities that I found with it. I only wasted 5 bucks though. I think there are superior products out there but the price was right and like I said... some people are as particular as I am.
Im not sure what they mean by "grippy texture". "Grippy" sounds like "sticky" to me so I'm not sure. The one I'm looking for is textured but not "sticky". Like what Bobsbbq was talking about with the G2 screen.
Thank you both for the info. I'm gonna look around for a couple more days and then I'm gonna go the "cut G2 SP method".
I have tried the Clarivue in the past, which btw does not have one yet. But nonetheless, it has always been highly rated
My Point? Well the Tmobile OEM one that they put out seems to be EXACTLY the same as the Clarivue.
You can't go wrong with that. By the way EREBUSTING, what is a S.P. ??
I think I know what a grippy texture means, sort of like the ones (they are good tho) like the invisible shield that you use a liquid to put on??

Phantom Skinz Chromatics Black CF..PHOTOS!!!

Hey guys...got the PhantomSkin Chromatic kit in the mail today and decided to install it this morning. The package was very impressive. Included was the Chromatic kit and 2 free screen savers. I was currently using the black OEM gel case with the dinky screen protector. I first put on the screen protector follwing the instructions given. The install was a breeze! Coming from a ZAGG shield, I was very impressed with this screen protector. The screen was clear with little to minimal orange peel! I then started with the Chromatic Install. The battery cover went on smooth. The next thing I did was the camera part. I noticed even though I was pressing down hard and hitting it with the dryer, the sides would pop up! The MT4G has alot of rounded corners so this really concerned me. I went ahead with the bottom part and the sides. Nothing was holding, I dont know if it was the weather or what...I started peeling it off to return the product but decided to look read up here alittle bit. Thanks to member "methodz" who installed this also, I found a new way to install it. I just put on piece by piece, but instead of using the dryer, he recommended a lighter!!! After hearing this, the install was cake..everything stuck on like a glove. I dont recommend this product unless you have the black version as there are many gaps! I love the CF look and it feels great, I am going to keep this setup and match it with the OEM holster till a Otterbox series comes out. Sorry for the big pics, but I wanted everyone to see the detail and the gaps. Hope this helps anybody who was thinking of installing this kit! On to the pics!!!
-Merwin
FYI: I aligned the battery cover after these pictures were taken.

the back of my phone looks like that, but i didn't use the side pieces, just the 3 main pieces on the back.
That looks really good, but I don't think I'd have the patience to line all those pieces up perfectly. What's it going to be like when/if you ever decide to remove them off the phone?
I checked out that site after getting my MT4G, and can't you choose what design you want for your phone? It didn't even show a picture of what it would look like after selecting the one for the MT4G.
Nice photos BTW!

Thanks! I used by DSLR and bounced the flash so you can get an idea of the CF pattern and tried to get as much detail as possible. The install was easy bro! Also I peeled off some of the stuff i slightly heated and it came off without residue!
Looks good, but it would concern me that the silver bezel is still exposed to possible scratching/damage in the event of a drop. Is there any way to protect that with a skinz type of system like this?
Also, you were able to peel off some without residue, but does anyone have experience trying to get this kind of thing off after a few months?

Just get close to the parts that arent sticking well and run it back and forth maybe like 3 timess to give it a little heat. Dont let the flame touch the CF. Get your thumb afterwards and stroke it into place LOL! GL on the install!
Geezz....I already messed up the screen shield.....DUNNO this instruction says soap, but id doesn't workout....
I see kinda wave-y pattern....is it normal?
Ain't for me this job...I'm pissed now
PS: redid it, look ok now, not perfect job though......Scared to apply the CF skin.
yes, this phone has a lot curve, Even Zagg was hard to put on the phone. but I manage to get zagg stick in to the phone now.
If it doesn't work, I can send it back for replacement. I hope you guy can send your Phantom skinz back too if you mess it up.

haha, i guess i'm daring... i stuck the skin on first and lit the actual CF areas. just don't light it for too long or you can damage something, just a split second or a few passes. you will find some of the skin doesn't stick too well if it is cold out so you will have to heat it. the instructions say use a blow dryer but i used a lighter instead.
I did it! And actually I am very impressed with my results on CF skin! Was easy and trick with the lighter worked fantastic! Very pleased! Looks and feels great!
Thank you guyz!
Looks nice! I would warn people you will feel the edges of the skin when you hold the phone. I used that on an iPhone and removed it after getting tired of feeling the edges of the skin.

Neah, I barely feel anything. It really depends, I guess, on the shape of the phone. Maybe iPhone is not well suited for this, but mine feels smooth and nice.
I warmed up really well the edges with the lighter when I applied the skin, so it set tight.

Just a note for others: the screen protector will show artifacts and other random blobs that may look like smudges when its fresh. This should go away within 48 hours as it completely dries. Just relax and be patient, the world wasn't built in a day.
AFAIK all of these types of protectors (zagg, bse, ps)recommend putting the phone down for 24hrs after application.... to ensure it sticks, and to allow the solution to dry

As soon as you squeeze out most of the water it will work fine for usage. At least with the phantom skinz.

[Q] Screen protectors

Hi all,
Is it suitable to use a screen protector (e.g. Brando) with the Wildfire?
I'm wondering whether it reduces the touch screen's sensitivity, reflection , ...
What are you using?
I've got a Brando screen protector for my HTC Touch Cruise (3 years now) and I'm pretty happy about it. The protector looks pretty scratched and greasy but when I peak under it, the phone seems perfectly clear.
So what are your opinions? Thanks
I have a Zagg Invisible Shield on mine ant it`s great. The sensibility is only slightly reduced, you don`t even feel it`s there. But that depends on the type of protector you`re going to use. Mine does not interfere with the viewing angles ot luminosity/contrast. If you want to see more pictures check my blog.
My wildfire is a pretty rugged phone, i dont think it really needs screen protector. On the other hand, my htc desire wouldn't last a month without the ZAGG invisible shield, or is it maybe the desire costed me double?
I think the Zagg is good in application mine had no bubbles the next day but using Swype is a really drag ! literally too rubbery I'm afraid
Any suggestion on a good protector that works well with Swype ? I'm in UK

Mine took about 10 days in order to smooth out. As long as you installed it properly, you should be fine.
I've heard good things about this Brando one which has a matte finish so no greasy finger prints or reflections. I'm thinking of getting one if I can find it for sale in £GBP
http://hemorrdroids.net had a review of one on their Youtube channel.
Try phantom skinz, can't even tell its there, and I use swype! Little expensive, worth out through!

Can somebody please recommend me some good screen protectors from ebay (by posting the correct link)? I found many of them and I don't want to buy some bad ones...
i dnt think the screen protectors affect too much. mine came with my case all for $12, which is considered cheap in NZ. n it works pretty good
whatever you do don't get privacy screen protectors, the ones i tried were just a mirror finish, they look ridiculous, screwed up colours on screen, made it impossible to see anything outside, and made my sensors play up( my soft keys wouldn't light up). i'm like kevin just using cheap ones off ebay and they are fine.

Gagdetshieldz for Galaxy Nexus

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus after spending months in front of the screen just stalking the beautiful device and wishing it lands in my hands. I finally ordered it a few weeks back. Now the next step to feed the OCD ridden alter ego was to protect the spectacular HD screen from scratches and dust. I researched a bit more, putting the quality of the film as priority, going through options to come across international brands like Zagg's Invisible Shield and Armorsuit which got great reviews from everyone in terms of clarity and protection. Naturally, they are not available in India (somehow whatever I want is not) and I was about to order it through ebay's global buy for almost double the price of what our western cousins pay when I came across the name Gadgetshieldz. I traipsed on to their site with absolutely no hope that I will be interested in any Indian brand and it'd be just another substandard product. The site had a nice look and feel and I liked the price they were offering (through ebay it is around INR 350 for the Nexus).
I felt the hole in my pocket left after buying a new phone and settled for the cheaper alternative after reading positive reviews on similar forums.

I also Youtube-d for wet screen protection and its application to familiarize myself with the whole process. It involves the use of an already included solution (Zagg) and a Squeegee + lint free cloth (just another name for the cloth you use for cleaning your specs) to take the excess solution out.

How to install a screen protector perfectly without bubbles or dust! - YouTube
The shipping was fast and through our Indian Postal Service and it reached my hands in the next 2 days. The packaging was nice and secure and I had already learnt that they do not provide any squeegee or solution and you have to arrange that yourself. Now all of this looks like a lot of homework and hassle and most of you would feel to give it a miss. Maybe I am overdoing it a bit here but I think all the effort that goes into this actually adds to the fun and satisfied feeling one gets towards the end.
After going through the instructions for the umpteenth time and reading another review - 1 and 2 I settled for the following.
Final Ingredients :

I was a bit worried about the solution regarding the water and soap ratio to be used. I must inform that all this hardly matters and you can mix 3-4 drop of mild liquid soap (I used Lifebuoy RED) and 600ml of water. Mix it thoroughly till you get a soapy feel when you dip your finger so that the shield can get a little slippery for readjustment.
The squeegee alternative is a simple card and a credit card will also do.Just make sure it is smooth. The lint free cloth is the microfiber cloth used for cleaning spectacles.

The application instructions :
The instructions are crystal clear and I personally feel they make the reader feel a little over cautious. The installation is actually simpler and faster. Well most of the settling down depends on the amount of soap used. In the instructions they ask you to soak the film in the soap solution. I found dipping the entire sheet into the solution better.
NOTE : Keep a track of where the sticky side is There were moments when I forgot where the sticky side lies.
When dipping the film in soap solution, if you allow -
more soap to stay on the film = better repositioning options and realignment. Its like setting the mouse sensitivity. This is high sensitivity and DPI. Also this means extra time for settling down.
less soap to stay on the film = faster sticking and drying up. This is like low sensitivity and DPI. The sheet will be harder to move and realign but would settle very fast and dry up faster. I chose this for the screen side as I didn't like the idea of too much soap and water loitering around my earpiece and front camera.
They are the same instructions and installation tips that are found on the main site.
The package includes a film for every possible exposed part of the device which is great but I only used the films for the screen, battery cover and the exposed part beneath the battery cover around the micro-USB port. I must mention at this point that the cuts of the films are precise and beautiful. The whole film feels sturdy and would give you the confidence that your device is going to stay safe and scratch free.

Cutting the chase here, I could not take the pictures of the phone when it was drying and what I have are the final pictures after 2 days of installation. During the installation and settling down period I was worried seeing a haze on the whole device and some marks that were left behind (I thought them to be fingerprint marks) but the results improved remarkably as time went by and after 4-5 hours the screen looked absolutely clear (and protected of course).
Final Results - Front
I faltered a bit around this area and the finish isn't exactly perfect but I marked it within the "Acceptable Marginal Error" range and proceeded.
The cut is precise and one hardly notices the film.
The screen looks quite clear and the only thing I noticed is the little dust settlement around the edges.
Taken with Brightness set to full.
The slight error in alignment is visible here but that is not to be blamed on the cuts. Just use more solutions and align to your heart's content.
Now there is a certain orange peel effect that is much talked about in case of such shields. I have taken this picture to leave it to the reader if that's the case because I am not well versed in that topic. As far as I can say, the shield is quite smooth.

Final Results - Back
The back cover of the Galaxy Nexus is a bit rough and applying the film there is both easy and a little troublesome. Easy because t doesn't involve working around any sensitive device part and I would advice that you can remove the cover entirely and apply the film. Troublesome because the squeegee doesn't move that freely around that area.
Make sure the film settles down entirely on the back case.
The package also includes film for the area around the camera as is visible.
The shields for every part is absolutely perfect and for this area its almost invisible.
Final words :
Go through the instructions thoroughly especially if its your first time.Keep all the things ready and within reach before starting. The installation is quite easy and intuitive (the links that I have provided are more than enough for getting it right). Also, some would want to settle for the easier alternative and that is a matter of choice. The shield is priced at INR 350 from ebay and one of my friend (who provided the phone to take the pictures - Galaxy S advance) also got a screen guard applied from the seller itself who charged the same amount. Below are the results and I found the Gadgetshieldz finish to be much better.
Galaxy S Advance - Samsung showroom screen guard
Galaxy Nexus - Gadgetshieldz
Another point to mention is that post application I observed a faint chemical odour emanating from the shield itself. I googled it a bit and found out that these shields are chemically treated and this is not something to lose your sleep about. As of on the third day, this odour has subsided and I am guessing it will remain the same I hope the review helps in clearing certain doubts and help my fellow forum members.
Feel free to ask any questions. Requesting more pictures is ok but it depends when I get my hands on another device for taking picture (this one is out of the whole equation now especially after I ended up comparing the finish of its screenguard to mine).
Enjoy!

Great review OP. It's nice to know that they have a new packaging as well. I used to buy their products before and they came in a regular envelop. That's the reason for the low cost. The only reason I have something else now is because I'm testing another product but I still have my set sitting in my drawer. Thanks again.

Much appreciated.Yeah in the video reviews the packaging is different indeed. The shield came enclosed in another envelope, yet the whole package was very slim and sturdy. And yes, the low cost is mostly because they do not include a squeegee and a slolution which I found acceptable as it still manages to do the job quite well.
Good review. Thank the guy, this took some time

The pictures took more time. I was worried I would mess up the details. I think the camera made my job easy. Writing is fun so not much effort there.
Planning to get one of these. But it looks like the screen protector covers up the proximity sensor. So, does the proximity sensor work properly? Have you checked it by installing a sensor app like android sensor box.

it works
Why didn't I read this topic before? I was not able to find this brand while searching for a screen guard so went ahead and ordered Zagg one from ebay global buy - 1000 INR

As mentioned above, it does work and it does not affect it at all.

That is alright. How come you got it for just 1000? Last I checked it was for around 1200+change. The good thing about your purchase would be that you will be getting a solution, squeegee and cloth already included in the package. So I guess you can be happy with that This review can be helpful in the application part. Let me know how it goes (if pictures are possible then that is great!)

I don't know. I woke up one and saw zagg invisibleshield floating around for 1000 bucks on ebay global buy. You're right, it used to show for 1300+ before.
So I applied it and it looks perfect!! I kind of messed up in between but thanks to the solution, took it off and re-applied. It looks just great and as tit says, almost invisible. I'll see if I can arrange pics.
Yeah pictures would be great!
I'm bumping this just because I got an email from them on a 40% discount on all skins. Not bad at all
