o2 car solution - anyone have this yet? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

Has anyone been brave enough to order the Exec "car solution" from o2? Looking for a picture and description of the cradle as there's little info on o2's site. From what is there, I suspect it may attach to the air vents, but couldn't see why a goose neck would be needed for that. o2 sales were of no help - surprise, surprise!

Down at the bottom of that page is the entry:
Uni-Car solution (cradle & vent & goose & connection) - ADEXDARN
£24.99

Let me know what you get as I'd ben interested in seeing that.

I have the cheaper one, came with the Box, not too bad.
Loads around but not many images....
See what you can find..

Where to I find an External Antenna for XDA II?

Since I'm not an expert on antennas I've had a hard time finding an Antenna for the XDA II. I'm actually looking for an antenna I can use in my home to get better reception. Does anyone know where I can buy one that plugs into the back of the device? I've already noticed much better reception with my XDA II over the XDA I ... with an external antenna it should be awesome. Thanks.
connectors
The connector was a standard unit used in the old 'carphones' I used to have loads of them, I worked on them from 89 to 96. I cant remember the name for them, they should be quite available, try www.cpc.co.uk they might have them.
external antenna - where to find?
I would love to find an external antenna also for the same purpose - stationary at home for better reception. Thanks for any help

I found out the specifications of the external antenna "receptacle" from the i-Mate folks (shown below). I've attached the PDF he sent. Now I have to find an appropriate antenna. I'm also thinking about getting a repeater, but I've heard they're expensive ($500-1000).
Thank you for the enquiry! Well, regarding your question; I am sending you a file (as an attachment) that should give you all the specifications of the external antenna. For any further enquiries, please contact us, we will be glad to assist you!

I cannot seem to open your attachment.
Bought my external at Radio Shack. The external unit cost $29, and the adapter was $10. Be careful with the adapters. Have the guy open it and make sure it fits right. Mine was for a motorola, and didn't have a black bushing around the base that others on the same rack did. The others didn't fit, but the one minus bushing did.
Sorry about the file. It's my first try to upload to the XDA Site. Here's the file from one of my websites.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/olliesshop/XDAStuff/RFConnector.pdf
Also, Thanks for the input about Radio Shack. I went there earlier and they said they didn't have anything. But it probably was the lack of knowledge of the salesman. I'll go to a different store and be more persistant. Thanks.
i had no problems saving the pdf file to my disk and opening it using acrobat reader
from the first uploading that is
Hey dadarkmcse - since you purchased one at Radio Shack that actually works . . . what's the part number? Might take a bit of the guess work out of it for the rest of us!
Thanks!

I knew you would ask that... and being me... i threw out the packaging. Let me swing by Radio Shack's site and see if i can find it...
17-345 is the base unit, and it was either 17-346 or 17-348 that was the cable for the unit. Try to find both at your radio snack and have the sales man open the package and plug it into the phone. The guy at the radioshack I went to was more than happy to do this, even though he had never seen my xda ii.
Good thing too - i HATE when they look at the thing and salivate all over it... quite annoying
Yea . . . I HATE when that happens. I just carry around a plastic bag to slip my i-mate into before I let anyone hold it. That way, it's 'drool proof'!
can you take some photos it?
What . . . you mean pictures of my i-mate in a plastic bag?
Oh . . . OK - I'd like to see pictures of the antenna and cable too!
Thanks dadarkmcse
I went by another Radio Shack on the way home tonight and they gave me that "Deer in the Headlight" look. They suggested going to AT&T ... arghhhh!!! I'm going to look at Radio Shack on-line and see if I can find something.
I finally found out the connector/adapter we need. I was told by my local Electronics Store / Experts that if I can get it to an SMA connector I'm all set. So after many phone calls and a few weeks of searching ... I finally found, I believe the only U.S. source for the adaptor.
This is the link to the page of the catalog http://dkc3.digikey.com/pdf/T041/0248.pdf. I ordered, from the top part of the page:
Switching Connector - #5
SMA Adaptor to Male
H2807-ND
MS-145-HRMP-A
www.digikey.com Toll-Free: 1-800-344-4539 • Phone: 218-681-6674 • Fax: 218-681-3380
I hope this works, since it cost $30.80 with postage. Now I need to go get an actual antenna that connects to SMA.
Thats the adapter, right? So what else do you need to make an antena, just coax cable?
:?
I haven't bought it yet, but my understanding is I need a Coaxial Cable with an SMA connector on one end and an antenna that attaches to the other end. I plan on buying a normal "glass mounted" type antenna, like they put on car windows and enough cable I can run it from my desk outside the window. The store I go to has a few different Car Kits that include the cable and antenna. We'll see how it goes.
Sorry to be boring, have you got a website for the type of antenna? Its just I guess????? in the UK i should be able to get the connector type from somewhere? RS or Farnells, or maybe maplins (there a bit like your Radio Shack) but the antenna I am not sure,
thanks in advance
Jim
as said up top www.cpc.co.uk they have loads of aerials, glass mount etc. click http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog_name=CPC+Catalogue&product_id=267273 for a page i found. I couldn't find the MS-147 on their site though.

XDA 2s Orange MPV200 Car Kit xdaiii imate

I am trying to find a cradle for my xda2s that will allow me to plug in a GPS reciever and use the phone functions as well. The spotty oiks I have asked in various shops can't help and email help at various websites isn't particularly knowledgeable. I already have a nokia kit in my car from the previous owner and intend using the wiring from that if possible. I particularly like this one:
http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=A11XDA2SMNT&cat=113
but the details are scant on the site.
Anyone out there recommend anything to me???
GPS cradle
I've been looking for a similar thing and came across this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HOLUX-CR100-G...QitemZ5826433844QQcategoryZ4668QQcmdZViewItem
I don't think you're obliged to buy it on eBay, but it's a start. What I'm wary about is that the microphone on the M2000 is on the bottom of the unit, so by plugging in as suggested in the picture on eBay would cover the microphone, and from memory the cradle uses the mic in the m2000. I haven't had the time to research this any further, but I hope this may help.

pda hut car mount-anyone is using ??

hi i am looking for good mount solution for my universal..i have read some thread reagrding this topic but stil havent made up my mind. and i also found this http://www.pdahut.com/store/product.php?productid=17600&cat=0&page=1 is anybady using this ?? can we have some feedback ?? cheers, cudo
I'm using it, and although I think it does its job, I think it is way too expensive for what it is.
My two main issues with it would be:
- how inconvenient it is to remove the Universal from the craddle once it's in: you have to bend the craddle quite a bit on one corner to get one side out, then do that again on another corner...
- how leather-case unfriendly it is: I have to remove my Universal from its carrying case whenever I want to put it in the craddle. Not a biggie, but still...
On a side note, a cool thing would have been to combine a hard-case shell, with a belt-clip, with the craddle, since it so thightly fits the Universal...
HTH
25 pounds ?? it is not that expensive in comparison to brodit ? and which one is better i dont know..and i am trying to make up my mind cos i got universal tom tom and gpslim..the only think missing is mount..and i dont know which one i shell choose . help with that issue, please !
Well, I know that one I bought for my better half cost me less than half the price, found it in a hypermarket, and next time I see it, I'll buy it to replace that specificaly designed one.
Conidering what I said in my previous post, I prefer a well designed, generic car mount rather than a Universal-specific one.
so would u recomand it or not ? is this really difficult to get it out from the cardle once it is in ?
cheers
It's not difficult per se, but at this price, it shouldn't be a pain, and it *is* a pain. I don't like the flimsy feel of the craddle, nor the fact that I can't hold my Universal securely enough when I take it out, and I hate the feeling that I could drop it if I were not careful. If you add the fact that it is not leather-case / silicone-skins / etc. compliant, I couldn't advise it.
IMHO, a 15 € generic craddle (with a pincher-type attachement) + a 15 € car adapter is a far superior, more versatile solution.
can u give a link to the cardle you are talking about.
cheers, cudo
There are tons of generic mounts at our super/hypermarkets around here, so I don't have a *specific* mount in mind.
But they all ressemble stuff like these:

or

or

(available to cmonex' today's "spur of the moment" webshop, AddonsWorld - http://www.addonsworld.co.uk/product.php/26839/3341/ ;-) ).

Car Cradle/Holder

Hi All,
I've been reading this forum for a while now and I'n currently looking for a active car holder. I've seen all kinds come by, but the one that I (and others I think) are looking for is no were to be seen!
The Veripart is a step in the right direction. But I don't need a extra speaker AND I want my MDA vertical! Is it so hard for the cradle developers to create one like that.
Does any know of a cradle like that?
PS, sorry for the tone in this post, but I just get a bit frustrated that something so easy could be so hard to get.
Hi, Welcome to the forum,
Have you seen the Brodit holders for the Exec/JasJar etc.
They offer Passive holders: code 848649, (just holds it) or Active with Cig Charger code: 968649 or hardwired to vehicles power code: 971649.
All the holders allow you to have it either in vertical PDA mode, or Laptop mode with exposed keyboard, and also full rotation for landscape view for sat nav etc.
Have a look at: http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/brodit.asp either do a search by PDA make, the codes above or the 968649 is listed further down the homepage.
All the holders either fit onto a vehicle specific proclip (choose your car make, model and year) or onto a windscreen suction mount.
Hope that helps you decide, many users have these and have posted positive comments on the forum about them.
Cheers,
Bryson
Hi Bryson,
Yes I know.. But I just hate to have to connect the power supply each time manualy. When you look at the veripak one it has the connector build in. You just slide the mda in the cradle and youre done.
I'm using an Arkon vehicle mount for my Wizard. It's also a windshield mount with a tightening swivel head that can be locked into either vertical or horizontal position. Take a look here -- http://www.arkon.com/pdamount.php
There's several different models of their mounts available on the site. The one I'm using is the CM920 model. Works fine for me!!
But then I would still be plugging the power in manualy every time
I had my Wizard mount from www.dsldevelopments.com dealing with Bryson. Worked great and I'm going to order the Hermes one from him too. I suppose you could always doctor the power cable and wire it in properly behind your dash.
Cheerio

There's a new one on the O2 XDA site that looks interesting and is vertical. I haven't found any more info on this yet though.

Does any one have and experiance with these?

There is a massive price difference too though,

External aerial for O2 Orbit

Hi, had a look in the manual and a quick search here but I can't find out what kind of adaptor I need to connect a FME terminated external aerial to my Orbit. TIA.
Great forum, very helpful BTW (just found out about dual sim holders... )
Aerial
Hi The specification for an external aerial seems to be confusing - it took me a long time to actually get something that fits. John, at 'GPS Antenna only' in Ebay, has got GPS aerials that do, and may be able to help you further
Thanks but I couldn't find anything on Ebay -- do you have a link?
Aerials
Hi. Sorry about that. That was the name of his shop. Try this.. http://search.ebay.co.uk/ws/search/MemberSearchResult?userid=londoncolour
This should take you to his shop. He really was very good when he was trying to get me a GPS aerial - we must have tried 4 or 5 different ones that according to the specifications, were 'supposed' to be correct. I know that he also contacted HTC, and what they told him was wrong as well, but John bought an Orbit himself, and eventually found the correct one. He really couldn't have done more - excellent supplier, highly recommended, and great value.
Thanks, but he just directed me to the GPS aerial he had for sale. Have contacted HTC Europe, see what they come up with.
http://www.gerry-mobilfunk.de/artik...hluss_einer_externen_Antenne_KFZ-Antenne.html
It's only in German language, but I hope it helps anyway.
As far as I know, the connector should be an MS-147-C(LP)-2
Thanks for that -- I've dropped him an email. That part number for the aerial doesn't come up much on Google...
I should qualify that: the MS-147-C(LP)-1 type does the 2 doesn't seem to exist...
Sorry, that seems to be right. I've got that information from expansys webpage.
Have a look at the data sheet
http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e35801505.pdf
Hi Peter, so you think it is the 1 I'm looking for?
I've asked Hirose for a free sample of
MS-147-C(LP)-1 and MS-147-HRMJ-1 for validation.
GPS Antenna Adaptor
I was in Radiop Shack and found adaptor # 17-349 connects to the P3300 (aka Artemis) on one end and has a standard Antenna cable connector on the opposite end.
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104006&cp
Not sure if it works as I have not connected it to a GPS antenna itself but it' gets you past the hard part (connecting to the phone)
Original GPS Antenna
Original Orbit GPS Antenna

It was an external aerial for the phone socket I was after, but thanks anyway.
