vga support in JASJAR - new device - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

what do you thing about this device:
http://www.spectec.com.tw/en/sdv-840.htm
does it good enough for the JASJAR?
thank's
omry

If the SD slot is used for this device, then where to store the files (presentation, pictures, movies, etc) to be shown via the projector?
There are few options such as via Wifi/bluetooth streaming, but that makes this solution (combination of Jasjar and this SDIO VGA) not elegant, such as when you visit a customer to give presentation.

FYI, A UK Supplier:
http://www.jactron.co.uk/pretec/io/sdio/sd-presenter.htm
Lists the same item as coming soon.

i beleive this is gr8, i can manage the size fo rthe time being to be on the device. it will give me a gr8 comfort when doing the presentation at the client office instead of carrying the laptop with me.
can't wait to get this device.

Yessss, this could transform our toy in a media center and run movies stored on some external HDD.
Has anyone tried the solution already?

What this device needs is 256-1024 megs of memory included, like you had at some point with the SDIO-wlan+256M cards.
Better yet if they can simply put an extra SD slot in the already large dongle -- that should be possible if a bit more difficult.

That's a very good idea, the only possible problem is how much bandwidth does VGA use ??? because if its all of it then you won't have much room for data !! however it should be possible to get an SD card reader writer that plugs into the jasjars USB port ( but then we run into all the same old problems about the jasjar not being a USB host ) its a no win situation !!!

Speaking of which, why the *hell* did they give the thing physically a USBHost port (or rather, a mini-AB instead of a mini-B like cardreaders and digicams, indicating it supports USBHost) if it doesn't *actually* support it? I think that might even be enough to disqualify it from bearing the USB logo, technically.

cheap memery card reader

I bought one of these and found them useful as i can not always have my sync cable with me to transfer data from my xda.
So i decided to buy a load so everyone else can have the benefit of my little find. i know these have been around for a bit but i have never found one as small as this. also it has protective covers on the end so you don't get any dirt in there.
Here is a link to my auction:
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZairportinfo
Why are you charging 3.59 postage?
yeah, P&P is quite expensive. See if you can get it down a bit and i'll snap one up.
Can you tell me - does it relly double as a USB drive, ie requires no driver? I know they're meant to, but I don't trust the Thai ebayer that was selling them, never responded to emails
V
should try softick card export...turns your PPC into a usb card reader
then all you have to carry around is your sync cable.

Speedn, I see they've finalyl released the Magician version. Will give it a go.
Does it really work as a USB Drive, ie no drivers required?
I'd rather use the reader/writer being sold here, so I can use my Fast 1gb SD as a USB card at full speed, but at work we've got Admin restrictions, so it'd be nice to know it doesn't require drivers etc.
Will give it a go!
Thanks for the pointer.

im the seller of that item. i have priced it so it undercuts everyone on ebay. that’s at total price of £6.58. do a search!!!!
Im a uk seller so that means not delays or custom charges. and as you can see on most of my items they are next day delivery. I have listed all the items i have currently got at the moment and im not sure if i will be able to get anymore.
there are no drivers required unless you are using win98. if you need the drive for win 98 details for the download are available on the instructions supplied.
here they cost about 4£
would not get a noname myself though
had issues with incompatible flash readers before

I’m competing with other ebayers so i need to have a low buy it now price otherwise no one will look at my auctions also ebay charge you more if you list an item at a buy it now price of more than £5.99. It is not uncommon to have a high p&p price on ebay. when ever im bidding i always look to see how much the item is and how much P&P is. add them together and then you can work out if you want to pay for the item simple really!!!

FM Radio for HTC Wizard

Ok so this is my first post here, so if I drop a clanger, please bear with me.
I've got an HTC Wizard (T Mobile Vario etc) but there is something I'm really missing.
Does anyone know of anybody that makes & sells a wired hands free kit with a built in FM Tuner? I would have preferred a built in FM radio in the phone (yes I know, I should have got an Atom), but I didnt & now I have to live with it.
I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones. It should be easy with an Wizard because the only connections are via jack sockets.
I have turned EBay upside down looking for this type of thing, but all I can find are cheap looking plasticy things from China that run on watch batteries! I was looking for something a bit more up market.
I'm sure I can't be the only person in the world that
wants an FM radio bolt on for their Wizard!?
Or am I???????????????????????????????????????
you can get a fm radio sdio card which would add fm radio to all pda's with a sdio slot
the Wizard uses MiniSD, and as such won't work with any SD I/O cards. Afaik, you can't get an SD I/O > MiniSD converter either?
This is not good news. I too have seen the SDIO cards. I think all they do is bleed power from the device, rateher than being truely integrated. But never seen a mini SD devive
Anyone seen anything combined into a headset?????
Plenty of radios that are basically stuck on a plug and two earbuds;
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002EQXFK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
But I don't know if they work together with the Wizard for e.g. voice commands (which I personally don't use, so doesn't matter to me)
Yes I am aware of the type of radio that you mention. As I said in my original post "I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones". Problem is they dont have the correct plug to use with a wizard (ie 4 conector, 2.5mm jack plug) which is what you need to listen to MP3 music (for example) then maybe switch to a phone call & then listen to the radio all using the same headset. The Motorola one is close, but the pins on the jack plug are not correct Something like this would be great, ie a headset (with microphone) + a radio. Am I asking for too much?????

I guess you are
Could take some cutters and a soldering iron and work some magic with that :>
Hi, have a look on the following link, it is the one i am using.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=111492
N I C E !
It almost fits the bill. If only it could use the bluetooth connection to use the MP3 player on your phone (in stereo of course). I think I need one of these N*k*a (sorry I nearly swore) & A2DP. Assuming the T Mobile ROM ever turns up will A2DP work on a wizard?
Why is it that the BIG 3 phone companies look after their phones with good accessories? Come on HTC, your phones are great, but they need to branch out & support the phone range with some add on goodies.

You're right about that. I had an SDIO WiFi card for my magician. Whereas the battery would normally last a few days, it would be dead within an hour with the WiFi card in.
Hello any news on this yet?
Hi,
I have been searching around for something like this too. Unfortunately no luck.
Any of you guys find something interesting?
rohseq
Sadly not. I too am still searching the internet for something, but so far nothing that matches the criteria has popped up. Its becoming more & more annoying :x Every time I see something its a specific product for one of the big phone manufacturers. Clearly they put a value on selling accessories (presumably for a good profit) to enhance their phones, whereas most Windows powered phone owners are left to fend for themselves with stuff off fleabay.
Makes me wonder if its worth going down this route again So far I have had an original SPV, E200, C500, C550 & now a Vario (Wizard). Next time around I might go back to the big "N" & enjoy the benefits of buying something from a fully supported product range.

[Q] USB Hard Drive

Is it possible to connect an external hard drive to the Touch Pro 2, even if it requires buying an extra dongle or something?

No, it is not possible.
I don't know, I wouldn't say a definate 'no', maybe more of a 'not at the moment' - but I'm afraid most probably unlikely as many experienced developers/cooks have moved from the TP2. I was very surprised that my old HTC Universal was capable of this (as in, the hardware supported it - it was working with android).
Possible? Maybe. Practical? Not likely.
Even if the hardware inside supports it then someone will have to invest the effort to make the software use that capability. That seems unlikely at this point in the product's life cycle but we can hope there's a TP2/Tilt2 zealot out there with the time and know how to accomplish a host mode driver.
So as cajunflavoredbob said (but in more words....) - nope, not possible.
If you're just trying to move data around then there are other ways to accomplish that....

So it works on the HTC Universal? What all does it entail? Do you have to do a bunch of stuff to make it work or does it just work out of the box? Also, does it work in WinMo too or just Android on the Universal?

Well what I am trying to do is find a way to play music from an external hard drive in my car. And easily take it from my car, to my motorhome when we go on a long road trip. The easiest way I can think of is to have a device like a laptop that will host the hard drive and play the music. The laptop's headphone output would then connect to my stereo's aux input. I would much rather use a phone though, so I am trying to find a phone that will do it.

Wow.... you must have one hell of a lot of music if it takes more than 16G (sdcard) to store it, but then I'm not that big of an MP3 guy. If it was me I think I'd just use a cheap netbook off craigslist powered with a small inverter, wouldn't cost a lot more than a phone and not that much bigger. Or maybe an iPod classic, they go up over 150G for a couple hundred bucks. You may want to try googling "carputer" too, might give you some ideas?

Basically, the Universal had the capability to begin with. There are no hardware drivers for the Rhodium to enable this function. This means they would need to be written from the ground up. If you know someone would could do this, then the community would be grateful, but as it stands, this isn't a function you will get from the Rhodium. As was suggested above me, an iPod classic with a 160GB hard drive is the most portable solution we could afford you.

Can I get more storage space?

Hey, I have searched a bit for an answer here but can anyone actually tell me if I can get a larger SD card or more gigabytes for storage on my Samsung galaxy nexus??
Cheers

No. Only way to get more space is using a kernel which supports USB hosted storage.
It is too risky trying to change the memory chip (i imagine soldering is needed) already installed in your phone.

For any OS but Windows, that would be good, but Windows does support the MTP mode of the Galaxy Nexus.
OK. Bummer
I'll just have to deal with it then. Something to definatly look out for on my next phone phone

What I'm planning on doing is this:
I've ordered one of these: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/USB-Host-Ada...s=63&clkid=7945018501273467967#ht_1590wt_1067
Hoping it works on the G Nex, I think it should.
And then I'm getting one of these: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10425
Gonna basically have a little microUSB flash drive. I'm just gonna plug the moskeyto into my computer every now and then to sync, but I think it's the best solution for being able to carry larger files I want to use on my phone.
I'm not sure its gonna work yet. Gonna test my existing drive with the host adapter before buying the new drive, but for $2, its worth giving it a shot.

Another option if you've got a microsd card laying around from a previous phone (like I do) is to get that same OTG cable and a mini microsd reader like http://www.amazon.com/ELAGO-Mobile-Reader-World-Smallest-EL-RD-012/dp/B002K7EJDK
Now suddenly that 16GB microsd isn't as useless as it was although you'd still have to put up with the terribad transfer speed.
Speaking of which, do they publish the Moskeyto's read/write xfer speed? I mean you know, it doesn't actually matter on the device (as long as its fast enough to stream a 720p video without any issues) but it does matter when you're just trying to get some data on it from your PC .
On a related note re: storage space, I got Google Play Music working 2 nights ago and I must say that I'm impressed at how seamless it works. It's also nice having my entire active-music library, has also meant that I can trim my "offline" sync playlist even more to save more space. This space saving method, of course, does mean you gotta have a decent data plan if you wanna stream and drive.
Cheers everyone. At least I have a couple options now.

SGS9/+ OTG and HDMI Out Simultaneously?

Hello,
We're in the market for phone upgrades. I currently have a Pixel XL and my spouse still has his Nexus 5x. We're giving some thought to the SGS9+, if we can find a BOGO type deal as TMO did several times last year. While they aren't that exciting, I do like the addition of Samsung Pay that works with any strip reader and some of the other features (though we aren't completely sold on it yet).
We're traveling and typically bring a streaming stick which works in most places. But the internet in our current place is just too show so it doesn't work at all. We happened to have an external hard drive with some media files on it but we're currently having to use a Windows laptop to run the files since the stuck doesn't have a USB in.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use the SGS9+ as an OTG to read the external hard drive while using the HDMI out at the same time? Can I charge too? Would some sort of a USB C dock work for this? Or something else? Thanks so much in advance!

Maybe to late of a reply, but i think your refering to the samsung dex pad. It has 2 usb ports, 1 hdmi out, ethernet. Phone connects to dock via usb c. Kind of expensive tho $99. You can also buy a generic version that does the same thing on amazon for $30. It doesnt look as pretty, but functionality is the same.
