TomTom5 to work with my Bluetooth GPS receiver - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

:?: I'm having problems getting TomTom5 to work with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. The seriel pot of the GPS can only be set to com port 5 or 6 - and those ports are not available in TomTom. I assume that some ports are in use by other applications - but how can I find/remove them ? Anyone know how to see the assigned ports in windows mobile 5 :?:

Bluetooth gps with cable

I have used a Fortuna GPSmart bluetooth gps with xda2, I bought an optional cable which powers the xda2 and the gps and also allows data connection to xda or xda2, it needs to be set to Tomtom gps, nmea 38400 and Com 1, beams must be switched off in settings/connections/beams. I also have a Holux GR-230 bluetooth gps, I tried the cable from the Fortuna, with the same settings and it also works perfectly as a wired gps while charging both xda/xda2 and gps. This may be of interest to somebody.
Help
Hi. I have also just purchased the cable and being really stupid l Can't get it to work. Where do I change the settings you mentioned? thanks.
Go to the "gps" section of tomtom, choose nmea 38400 and com 1.
Y-(Data/Power)-cable XDA to GPSmart were to buy in EU
Im looking for a Y-(Data/Power)-cable to connect a XDA2i GPSmart. Where can I buy this in EU?
Also the Holux BT GPS cable shoud be compatible with GPSmart.
But i cant find this in EU.
I got mine off ebay www.ebay.co.uk

Have you checked which COM port the GR-230 is using and matched it with the tomtom software?
http://www.holux-uk.com/Products/gr-230/download.shtml gives a download for checking out what COM port is used
No, i haven't. I will do that.
thanks

let me know what you find
For what its worth - My Tomtom GPS receiver uses Bluetooth Serial port on COM6: but I know this can be changed to Bluetooth COM5, serial on COM1 and also COM9
XDA2s + Tomtom3 + Holux 230
I have this exact combination working.
Use COM5 BT
Set the type to SIRF 9600 (38400 proved unreliable)
then tick the box on the left.
If you go back to the 1st tab, you should see it's communicating.
Cheers,
Hal
GPS viewer hasn't been able to identifier the port to be used. I have tried the combination given by Hal and that wasn't successful either. I'm now going through all the possible tomtom GPS cobinations and will update you as soon as my luck shines.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

When you pair the gps with your pda do you get the message that a serial port profile is available for the device?? Mine does this and it sets itself up as com 5. I am not sure if beams affects this, I always switch off beams under settings/conncetions/beams, if a wired gps is used this is essential as the beams takes com 1 and wont allow a wired gps to work if enabled.
No. i don't get that message on the XDA2s although I remeber that on the XDA2.
I have downloaded Holux GPS viewer on my PDA but when i scan, it doesn't find any com port
I have deleted the Holux GPS (GR-230) and paired again, went to the Bluetooth screen which shows HOLUX GR-230: SPP slave and it connects and shows the duration clock.
I am and have been changing the options on the TomTom GPS screen, alwyas tick the big box but when i go to the status screen don't see any firing between the attenna and the PDA icons.
thanks
On the XDA, go into bluetooth settings and make sure that under the services tabe, the "Serial Port" is enabled. Unless this is enabled, you won't have COM5 & COM6 on your XDA
Also, once you pair with the device, try exploring it & seeing what services it can provide
Weasel, I have done what you have said below and yes, COM5 & COM6 are among the list when i check the TomTom GPS screen 2nd box.
I have been using different options from the 1st box, ex. TomTom Wireless GPS, TomTom Navigator GPS etc etc, combining with COM5 & COM6 etc etc from the 2nd box but still the status screen doesn't show any communication between the antenna & the PDA.
With regards to the Holux GR-230, should i do anything different apart from turning it on whiles i'm trying to do the setup?
thanks

How to set a BT GPS receiver on Universal with WM5???

Hi y'all,
i have a BT GPS receiver that i used with my Qtek 2020 (before this was stolen... ).
Now i have a XDA Exec from O2, but i am not able to set the receiver!
Anyone has any tip for me?
Thanks a lot...
...no one can help me out...??? Please...
Check out this guide and follow from after installing tomtom and you should get BT GPS working with exec, I did!!!
ps search term used was 'tomtom 5.1 guide'
hope this helps!

Hello,
first the bad news: not every bt-reciever is working...
but you should try this way:
Connection-Manager
Enable BT
Setting (Connection-Manager) BT-Settings
Tab devices and ad new partnership (be sure, BT-Reciever is on)
Pair it with your Universal (pin is usuall 0000)
Tap Com-Ports: new outgoing Port (your BT-Reciever) set to com 4
Tap Com-Ports: new incomming port (your BT-Reciever) set to com 8
Now it should work!
Thanks for the tipo...now i don't have my GPS receiver with me...but tomorrow i will give it a try.
The only thing that i find strange is: when i try to set the outgoing port i find my BT receiver in a box, but when i try to set the incoming port i dont' find it anywhere.
Something wrong?
Oh...and also...i use the software "GPS View" for the connection with the BT receiver...which port should i open (the COM4, the COM8 or another one?).
I ask you this because i have 10 COM ports available (from 1 to 10), but i cannot open all of them, because some tell me "COM porte error" when i try to open it.
Thanks for your help...
can anyone confirm if haicom-405 bt works with dopod 900?

I follow the tips ...outgoing port (COM4 - which the only port can be used other failed to open), incoming port (COM8).
But it doesnt work with my Garmin10 .... which work well with my previous XDAIIs. Anyone use Garmin1o with Dopo900?
Thanks
Usually, there's no need to setup an ingoing COM port: my Holux 236 receiver, for instance, works perfectly paired with my Qtek 9000 and only the outgoing COM8 setup'd.
The only thing to pay attention for is that TomTom have to be v5.1 or above (better if v5.21), in order to work properly under Windows Mobile 5.0.
Well...in my previous XDAII worked perfectly using the software MAPSONIC and the GPS VIEWER with my BT receiver (and just setting the outgoing port).
I tried to do like Teja told me in his answer (setting the outgoing COM4 and the incoming COM8), but it still does not work.
I will try to get a TOMTOM 5.1 software to give it a try...
solved...and i don't need to setup the ingoing port...thanks for the tips
Hi there! I have MDA Pro from T-mobile (UK) and until now I couldn't set a COM port appart of COM0 port for BT-GPS...
Now have COM4 for outgoing port and tom tom once is connected after 5 seconds is disconnected and again after 5 seconds is connected and again is disconnected and again......
I am using TT 5.21
Help please
I have set the outgoing port on COM8, no ingoing port needed and it works fine...although i don't have TOMTOM!!!
Orange M5000 and BT GPS and TOMTOM 5.21
I thought I share this just in case there are other like me out there.
I had an Orange M2000 with tomtom 5.0 and 512MB SD card.
I installed TT5 as normal on the PDA but the maps on the 512MB SD card.
I just got an Orange M5000 which is XDA EXEC and could not install TOMTOM 5.0 from CD. The SETUP kept on crashing on XP PC.
Here is the solution:
1) Put the SD card with the maps in M5000
2) Did NOT install TT5 from CD but downloaded navupd521.exe from the tomtom site and installed this on M5000 fine.
NOTE: I did not have to copy CAB files. I just installed this as normal from my PC with the USB cable
3) TT installed fine but I could not get it to recognise the BT GPS
I used the instructions below from the forum:
a) Turn on BT GPS
b) on PDA goto BlueTooth seeting --> New Partnership and supply the password (0000) to pair it.
c) Then in Bluetooth settings select the COM PORTS tab
d) Select Incoming port and set to COM8
e) and again in COM PORTS tab select Outgoing ports and select COM4
f) Start TOMTOM and goto Preferences and find GPS Configuration and select OTHER GPS and select COM4
It works every time... ALL my FAvourites etc are still there so no need to type them again.
So far WM5 and TT5 rocks. I will be testing it on the road with my Plantronics BT headset soon. With my old M2000, usually when TT5 is on the M2000 CPU does not have the juice and Bluetooth devices die or stop responding. Also when I stopped TT5 application the BlueTooth stopped.
We will see how M5000 improves on M2000
Thax...
i believe you shouldnt have a problem running your headset and bluetooth GPS together.
when i had a blue angel i ran TT3 with my SonyErricson Car Kit and the TT3 together and made vioce calls at the same time and even now with the Universal i can do the same! run them both together!
only thing is that occasionaly the TT5 seems to be a little behind my actual location if i have made/received a call luckily by only 30-40 yards so can still use the screen to see where my turnings are.
has anyone else found that and got the cure....
thanks

i-mate jasjar not work with parrot ck3300 gps

help me
I have a Imate Jas-Jar windows mobile 2005. A new version of GPS Nav-N-Go was released for WM 2005 I installed it and it doesn't work! It doesn't recognize my GPS on the Parrot CK3300.
I talked with the Nav-N-Go developers and they told me that the Nav-N-Go works with 9 GPS antenna's. It seems to me that the problem is in the definition of a communication "COM port".
Please help me to solve this problem. Is there a way to define a "COM port" for GPS in the CK3300
jorge
JasJar & TomTom5 using a Parrot 3300 for GPS & Phone
I also have a Jas Jar badged as an Orange SPVM5000 and have similar problems. I am not a techie by any meands but I do not think the problem is with the Parrot 3300.
The Bluetooth pairing connects Parrot and Phone.
Setting the com port is identifying where the incoming gps signal is made of available on the phone.
TomTom5 is the sat nav software I use and it seems only to work by connecting to certain com ports. Unfortunatley, the phone does not like assigning the connection to this port.
Elsewhere on this site there are instructions which allowed me to pair the phone with another GPS BT reciever I use when out and about.
The same procedure will not work with pasiring the parrot.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can pair with the Parrot to get the phone and gps working?
You may find some answers here -- worth a try, anyway.

XDA EXEC - connecting a Polstar PBT-111 bluetooth GPS device

Hi
Does anyone have any idea how to connect a blutooth GPS device to an XDA EXEC running tomtom5? I can connect easily using the genuine tomtom bluetooth receiver however no such joy using any other type bluetooth receiver.
I have been able to pair both the PBT-111 and another bluetooth receiver, but I am only allowed to connect to comm ports 4 or 8 in the connection manager. These selections are not available when I go to the 'configure' option for the receiver within tomtom
Any ideas most welcome
Hi Mick did you have any joy with your connection to the xda exec.
bt and tomtom
if you install bt reciever in tt5,go to other wired recievers and choose the right port number. then it should work.
succes
This helped me when I set mine up.
