Fax Q: How to send & receive w/o going into flight mode? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I have just got fax activated on my SIM and been given a new fax number as well, so I have been sending and receiving faxes with TrueFax as advertised.
However...
Shouldn't there be some way to send and/or receive without automatically going into flight mode and dialing internal modem? If twirpy Nokias can do it (they can and do), why not Blue Angels?
Is it just a limitation of TrueFax, or is it just impossible to do with Xda IIs?
EDIT: Doesn't MFaxCE do this? With version 1.8.6 it claims to be the first mobile fax software to send via voice modem. (It can also use Xda internal modem, like TrueFax.) Anyone try it yet?

Goto Inbox, Tools, Options and Tap SMS.
call another mobile with the SIM inserted and see what number comes up?
If you have only one phone but 2 sims: send an SMS to the number of the other sim then swap sims and you should get "message from......"
Ben
You misunderstand me !
I did post this in the developers corner !?!?!
I meant how do I get the phone number from my XDA via code eVC into my program ?
Any ideas anyone ?
John
Although I havent tried it myself yet, the ExTapi function lineGetGeneralInfo should give you a structure with the subscribernumber.
Cheers!
/Christer
I haven't tried to do this on the XDA but have done something similar on other phones by using the AT+C command set. From memory if you send a AT+CNUM to the phone it should respond with the subscriber number.
Does anyone know how to do this on an XDA? I would guess you need to have the wireless modem facility and then connect via this.
Cheers, Malachi
Take a look at the tstril example at this site, modifying it you can send AT commands to the modem.
Could any body please send me the eVB code for obtaining the XDA's phone number.

TrueFax included with MDAIII ?

Just been looking through the manual of my MDA III and it mentions the use of TrueFax (Pages 131 to 134), great I thought, that will come in handy. But I can't find it on my MDAIII?
Is it included? I've looked on the CDs but one is for activesync and the other contains the voice dialing software.
I've even downloaded it and installed it, but its says thats it a trial version.
Thanks
Richard
Just did a hard reset - sorted..
Cheers anyway!
Well happy now! - Free software!
Voice dialling ?
Hi,
i just got my Qtek9090 today and still comparing it with my qtek2020. What voice dialling software are you talking about ?? I found true fax on mine, installed from ext rom, but i can't seem to find any voice dialling....
care to trade ?????
hihihihihihiihi
Its called 'Fonix VoiceDial'. My MDAIII came with version 2.0
Its clever, in that you say the person's name and number type, for example:
'Richard Mobile' and it says it back to you (in a computer voice) then you have to say 'Yes' or 'No' to confirm dialling.
Not very handy in that you have to start it up, via opening the software, so not very hands free!

Thanks, what happened was I cocked up the first 'hard reset' - when I first switched it on...
Sync'd it with Outlook and hard reset it, and its sorted
Thanks!
wich i could say the same......
I've set the voice dial to the record button on the side of the MDAIII for quick dialing.
So simple, yet so difficult for Richard.
Thanks! - What a cracking idea
I-mate must not be including Fonix with their PDA2K units.
Folks I've got a question for those of you that have a PDA2K/MDAIII does the fax software work? Cuse I can send faxes fine but can't recieve any, and apparently I'm not the only one if you take a look at the clubimate forums.
If it does work for you folks could some kind individual post the cab file for it from their extended rom.
Fax does work, but...
True Fax does work really well in sending faxes, once I had figured out I had it I had sent a fax within minutes.
Now receiving faxes, thats a different story:
With T-Mobile there are two different services:
Service 1 (Free to use for business customers)
First you need to ask your operator for a fax number on your account. With T-Mobile its apart of their VoiceMail+.
This enables you to receive faxes to your voice mail. So you can receive faxes, but they don't get to your pda :-( , when you recieve a fax, you get a voicemail message saying that you have a fax, you can then either delete it or sending to a 'real' fax machine.
Service 2 (£25 one off cost)
To receive faxes on our I-MatePDA2k you need to ask your operator for a fax and data line. once you have a fax and data number you can actually receive faxes on your PDA, but not how you would expect....
With your PDA you need to turn on the 'recieve fax mode' within TrueFax. This enables you to receive faxes, but it turns off your mobile number so you can't make or receive calls  when in this mode.
Vodafone in the UK have 'vodafone.net' which incorporates SMS/Email/Voice/Fax into one and I do really miss that service, becuase when I recieved a fax it came to me as an email attachment.
Hope that helps
TrueFax..SPV M2000
Hi everybody,
I have SPV M2000 fron Orange in Switzerland.
It doesn't seem to have TrueFax installed at all.... :x
Is there a way to get this program for free or I have to buy it?
thanks in advance

I'm afraid Fax support is completely network dependant. Some providers support it, some don't. You will need to ring your provider and ask them about it. Even if they do support it, they will probably give you another "fax only" number that people must send faxes to in order for your device to receive them.
O2
Hi
Just to let people know, that the O2 Online Consumer tarriff does not and will not support fax send/recieve (this came from the horses mouth).
O2 Online Business tarriffs do support fax and they will allocate a fax no for the mobile. Ditto Consumer and Business O2 tarrifs bought from an O2 shop.
If you need fax, avoid O2 Online Consumer tarrifs as they will not enable fax.

XDA IIs Fax receiving Problem

Hi, I am using XDA IIs with windows mobile 2003 SE.& have just activated my fax number form my service provider . But to use the service I have to forward all incoming fax calls to a specific number. But I am unable to find any settings in the call forwarding section which forwards all fax calls to a specific number. Please help
Thanks
Fax Calls on XDAIIs
You don't forward fax calls to the number.. the number you have been given is your fax number.
They call that number - not your normal mobile number...
It then comes up with "Fax Call" when they call that number..
Try it yourself - from a landline (or other mobile) call your new fax number..
It works quite well on the XDAIIs
Charlie Grillo
Thanks for your reply. I have tried that (called from a landline on my fax number) but nothign happens on my mobile i.e. no incoming call nothing.
The following is the instructions for using fax from my service provider
------------------
How to activate fax on your mobile:
Go to Call Settings
Select Divert
Select Divert all fax calls/mode
Enter the number 123*xxxxxxx**/124*xxxxxxx** to divert the calls to “Faxmail”
* 123 for North and 124 for South
** Your personalized fax number
---------------------
Fax Calls on XDAIIs
Fax mail is different to receiving a Fax on the XDA IIs.
If you have a seperate fax no, then the instructions worked for me (in the UK).
Faxmail is a service whereby the service provider receives your fax and you get it emailed to you - in whatever format they decide.
I'm confused, as you seem to have a new fax no but it isn't working...
maybe contact your service provider to make sure they really have set it up !
Well i have talked with my serivce provider, and they have activated my number. In my case the service provider gave me a fax number. Now anyone who wants to send me the faxes can send it to this number by using normal method. Now to retrieve the faxes i have to dial my fax number using a fax machine and can get my fax in printed fromt. Details are here http://mobilinkgsm.com/mworld/faxMail.php

Upgraded my MDA Vario 2 using Schap's ROM and voicemail no longer working

I get voicemail notifications but when I try and connect using my mailbox number i get a recorded messaging saying that they are unable to connection from this network.
Using landline to voicemail works OK. I have called t-mobile up and they've reset my voicemail (haven't told them i've upgraded the phone).
Everything else seems to be working fine. I assume this is a setting issue.
Help!
You need to put an extra zero at the front of the number it calls for your voicemail - for some reason, on WM6, it omits the zero - an extra one puts it back.
HTH
Smiffy
That fixed it. Phew!
Another anoying problem is that the phone no longer identifies the caller from my contact list when it rings. Any ideas anybody.
Anybody had any luck getting the SIP client working?
It appears contacts synched from outlook do not come up as recognized when i get an inbound call.
Created contact on the phone and viola phone number recognized.
I got this problem after installing one of the T-Mobile WM6 test roms, I just dial my own number, that works for me.

Yeah, same thing with me, only I replaced the voicemail number with my own number so it works.

HELP! Can't recieve calls or texts on evo...

For the last few days I have been having an issue with my evo where I am not receiving any calls or text messages. I also cannot send out texts. The only thing I can do is make calls out, and text within my own family plan. I am also able to access 3g mobile network.
This started happening after a representative asked me to enter the follow codes into my phone to remove call forwarding:
*38
*730
*740
I have tried to look up references to these codes, ask employees about them, but no one seems to know what they do. I'm thinking that it enabled automatic call to voicemail. But when people call me they get an error message that says my number is invalid.
After calling Sprint customer support repeatedly for days, they continue to tell me its a network issue. I have opened two tickets, neither have resolved the issue with advanced technical support, and it's been almost a week now.
Sprint basically said there is no option but to -possibly- (like all the other stupid things they told me might fix the issue) change my number. But basically, they can't do anything at this point and they're forcing me to change my number permanently.
Does anyone know what might be going on or have an idea? yes my phone is rooted and I use custom roms, radios, etc. But I doubt my radio is broken because of it or that it's a software/hardware issue. It seems to be very much a network issue. Any clues?
Unacceptable. They should be paying for this months service. Don't change your number! Keep calling until you get someone who is knowledgeable.
Can you disable forwarding? Have you asked them? Ask them if they can do a whole reset on the network.
