8GB SDHC card on HTC Universal ? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

Does the HTC Universal Support the new 8 GB SDHC cards ? If, not what is the highest capacity the HTC Universal supports ?

sorry the Universal does not support SDHC, & the max capacity accepted with a SDcard is 4GB.

Are you sure ? Have you tried it. Accoriding to sandisc, HTC Universal only support 2 GB SD:
http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8013)-Dopod-900.aspx
http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8020)-T-Mobile-MDA_Pro.aspx

also says 2GB for the jamin and I've got 4gb works fine (fat32)
http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8106)-i-mate-jamin.aspx
still optimistic

I am using 4GB for the past one month in my JJ. No issues....
Cheers,
Suresh Nallan

My one works with 4GB OK

SD card suppliers are just trying to cover themselves.
As I understand it, the Universal works with 4GB cards but some applications don't, for example the camera application will not work if the card has more than 2GB of free space.
Mike

I think that was prior to the AKU2 ROM updates that the camera had a problem.
Cheers,
Steve.

The camera works but cannot keep the images in the SD if it does not have LESS of 2GB free.

As I say, I thought that had been addressed in the latest ROMs - not tried it myself, so could be wrong.

Steve.

4 GB SD Card
hey mikew
what do you mean by the camera application wont work if the card has moe than 2 GB of free space. do you mean to say with the 4 GB SD card the camera wont work at all.
if the SD card is more than 2 GB full, will the camera work?
how do i know if i have the AKU2 ROM update?

4GB using 2GB buffer - Jasjar, HTC equivalent
Just to confirm, Jasjar, HTC equivalent unit, does recognize & work with 4GB SD card; however, to make camera store to card - fill up the card first with 2GB of junk files, then camera storage works as it should... this is with latest firmware. Delete junk files as you need the storage, but keep card above the 2GB threshold. I've experienced no other storage based issues using the 2GB buffer, with any program used to date.

I have tryed CoolCamera, and saving pics to my 4Gb was not a problem. Then i changed firmware and had to fill 2Gb with files in order to save pics to SD card.
I am not using camera on my O2 EXEC, but with cool camera i could save pict direct to my 4Gb card.
If you buying 4Gb card it means you have a lot of things to put on tit, so using up 2 Gb is not a problem.
TomTom with 6 maps is 1Gb

8GB SDHC can see only 3.5GB
Hi, I just bougth 8GB Toshiba class 4 SDHC card
after install SDHC.cab, my universal can see only 3.5GB of data, but My PC can see up to 7.5GB.
I copy data over 3.5GB from my PC and check in my universal, i found that it sees the data folder and name, but once I click on the file, it said the file doese not exit. I try on PC, the result is no problem.
I have been trying to find the way to partition my new SDHC card to 2 drive hoping it will solve this problem, but so far have no luck.....
Can anyone help me out ?
Thanks so much

I used the SDHC Hack and I can now read and write 5GBs of 8GBs on my SDHC Card in my Samsung i730..I was wondering if you or anyone else found a way to partition it, say into two FAT16 4GB partitions so we can use the entire thing? Thanks.

16GB and 8GB SDHC cards should work fine on the Universal with the SDHC.cab patch.

4GB SD Card Unreadable

My SanDisk 4GB Extreme 3 SD Card used to work on my PC's SD card reader. The SD card reader read it as a 4GB SD card.
I tried to use it on the Universal and it asked me to format the card to read it. I did not format it. Next I tried to plug it into the SD card reader on the Universal again and again and it would ask me to format it. I formatted it and it read! But sadly only as 1961MB or 2GB card. Next i took it out and tried it back on my PC's SD card reader. Now my PC would ask to format it.... omg. So i tried again and it still asked me to format it. This time the PC tried to format it but it failed. My PC is unable to read the SD card. I used an external SD Card reader and it failed to read my 4GB SD card too!.. omg Universal Destroyed my 4GB SD Card ;( .... and it only reads as 2GB on my Universal.
Can anyone help me get out of this miserable situation.

Alright just before I go looking out for this SanDisk fix utility I would like tell you that SanDisk hasn't officially marketed the 4GB Extreme III cards in North America and Asian Mainland. It comes from Japan so I wonder if i will be even able to recieve support on it or a fix utility. How big is this fix utility? Can you upload it here if you find one for a 4GB extreme III card or post the link please? How the hell does it suddenly become 2GB....?_?
On some SD card readers it wont read too! And on all other places it reads as 2GB and wont go above 2GB. I thought maybe its just a reading issue but it actually reformatted the firmware to 2GB >.< .... I am sueing either microsoft or sandisk on this, like I think enough is enough and both companies have reached their limit on troubling me...always i get imperfect stuff.
I am really stressed out after spending so much money and still having technical difficulties with these things.

Oh no... Both the cards aren't being read by the PC's SD card reader anymore. The PC's SD Card reader will always ask me to format the card but when I click to format it wont, just freezes.
From all my SD card readers only the Universals SD card reader works, only shows 2GB and I cannot load more than 2GB of data on the SD card. I can access the SD card from my PC using the Universal as an SD card reader. My USB card reader wont read it either. All my other 2GB mini-SD cards work flawlessly.
Maybe I should try another ROM and see if the SD card can be formatted back to 4GB and 8GB respectively. I was using a ROM that I was making myself while this incident happened. I think that ROM will need more fixing. For now I will roll back to a stable ROM. Some people suggest the Qtek Official ROM and some say that all the AKU 3 ROM's here work to read the 4GB cards well.
I just got to keep testing eh? Testing and learning how these SD cards function in which ROM?
Panasonic SD card formatter wont work because the PC cant read the SD cards, its like one of those corrupt damaged CD's that you cant even access.

I am still having the problem where the Pocket PC reformats my 4GB card into a 2GB card and SanDisk is unable to find a solution to it.
Also while using other ROM's my 4GB card is not read? It seems the hardware is compatible to read 4GB cards except the ROM is not designed to do so. For example Helmi's AKU 3.5 ROM cannot read my Sandisk Extreme III 4GB. Now SanDisk also doesn't believe that i have that card because they never marketed it, but they dont know that I got it from their factory! Now that remains a secret how i got it. Its really fast and amazingly I gave it to a few people.
Luckily i found a ROM that reads my 4GB card except the 4GB card is always reformatted to 2GB... Its very confusing because even my PC now reads it only as 2GB....It was working fine about 2 weeks ago as 4GB.
If I can get any help to make this card back to a 4GB please! Thank you for your help ^^
From what I've read some weeks ago on the Panasonic homepage was, that SD-cards following the "old" SD-standard are designed for up to 2GB capacity. Everything above that is non-standard and will likely make problems. (Although there are some exceptions as you can read here on this forum.)
To come around these problems, they invented the SDHC-standard for sizes from 4GB and more. Sad thing is, that the reading device has to support this standard. The Universal doesn't afaik.
You can even read that on Wikipedia:
Some manufacturers have produced 4GB SD cards that do not conform to the SD2.0/SDHC and are incompatible with existing SD devices, and are also incompatible with SDHC devices.

So if you have problems, stick to 2GB cards. They work flawlessly.
P.S.: I first bought one of those 4GB-SD-cards and it was recognized by my Universal as 4GB but after copying approx. 5-6MB on it, it suddenly stopped working. The Universal always asked to format this thing. The PC showed sizes of about 930MB, even the Panasonic SD Formatter wasn't able to do anything about it. So I returned it and got 2x 2GB cards. No problems at all.

There is no a firmware inside the cards that might be overwritten using end-user tools. In your case most probably the card was re-partitioned. Read about MBR and partition tables for details. Quite easy to fix.

SDHC driver in Crossbow?

I'm curious if Crossbow has a new SDHC driver? The previous SD driver was based on v1.1.
Has anyone tried a SDHC card with Crossbow to see if it works?
Universal doesn't have SDHC hardware, so driver software should not help.

I thought that SDHC cards were the same hardware as regular SD cards, just formatted to FAT32. Is that not the case? I thought by virtue of the fact that many of us are happily using 4Gb SD cards (formatted with FAT32), that SDHC cards would work fine?
Devices that wouldn't handle FAT32, and therefore restricted to a 2Gb maximum are officially "SD", and those that can handle FAT32 will be labelled up "SDHC" to avoid confusion by non-techies.
My mate has a Casio camera that would always shut down as soon as you put a 4Gb SD card in it - he formatted it using FAT16 to 2Gb, and it recognised the card, but couldn't use it. He formatted the card with the camera, and it worked fine, but only with a capacity of 1Gb. I use this as an example of what I expect SD/SDHC compatibility to be like - simply an indication of the file system, and capacity limits that a device can handle.
Cheers,
Steve.

Memory card problems

I really need some help guys. I recently bought a 2gig memory card for my Dash running the Kavana 6.1 update. I later on inserted the card into one of my other phones and formatted it. However, when I view the storage card from Windows Mobile Device Manager, I no longer have my 1 point something gig of memory, but a paltry 966 MBs. Anyone know what happened and if there is a solution? I tried inserting the card into my memory slots using the adapters but no luck, as it never shows up..
wthe device manager might have corrupted the card because the dash is only supposed to have 1gig. cards is my guess and if thats the case u just have to reformatt on a card reader and not use with mobile manager...

try formatting your card in your phone you can use resco explorer to format it
The Dash (out of the box) can take up to 2gb card. Even after changing the ROM it would take a 2gb card. What phone did you use to format the card? if the phone you used to format it could not take a 2gb card it would format it exactly to what you are saying, basically change it to a 1gb card.
Format it in your computer use fat16, do a full format. Hopefully you will be able to erase the new file table that says 1gb and restore it to a 2gb.

Not on Vista you wont. You'll need a XP system... the only other option is to set your view types in windows exploere to show system and hidden files on the storage card then delete them. Then use your dash to format the card. Its a long shot but it might work. If not.. looks like you are in the market for a new 2gb card.
also remember windows never shows the full size of a card or any other form of storage. remember 1 gig is actually 1024 megs. and never shows the reserved system space.

Amsam 810

My Amsam will only read a 2gb card.It is supposed to take up to 8gb.
The AMsam website used to have a patch that was available for download but it does not have it now.
DOes anyone have the patch AMSAM_SDHC_DRIVE_SUPPORT_8G.CAB
I managed to get the driver.
So if anyone wants it send me a PM and il email it to you.
THe only problem now is that it wont work with a 4Gb card.
Although i might be using the wrong card.
The card that came with the phone was a Transcend Micro SD 2GB
The card i am trying to use is a Kingston Micro SDHC 4GB
I have formatted the card to FAT32 and it still wont work.SO my questions are
(1)Are these different cards and thats why they wont work
(2)Am i formatting the file incorrectly ?
Thank You in Advance
be happy
install this cab and enjoy with your 4 or 8 or 16 GB

FAT32 is the recommended file system for SD and SDHC cards ... a 32gb SD card is an SDHC card.
exFAT is primarily for SDXC cards ... (i.e., greater than 32 GB).
Both FAT32 and exFAT are Microsoft designs.
I suspect your issue is directly related to LINUX and the inherent formatting of your internal storage where I presume you are downloading your videos/images to before moving them to your SD card.
If your videos/images individually are not exceeding 4 GB there is no need to go to exFAT on an SDHC card but because the LG G4 supports cards greater than 32gb, i.e., supports exFAT, you will be able to see them when moved to your card.

Yes i know. thats why i formatted to exFat, sometimes i need 4gb+ files.
I just directly download to SD card with phone.
Im thinking its about LG's software. deleting files is so slow (2gb files 10sec+) and not refreshing in gallery.

Before coming to that conclusion ... i.e., thinking it's about LG's software, you would have to test out an SDXC card and see if you're having the same issue. Then you might be able to make a case to LG if everything else is set-up properly.
When you state you are downloading to your SD card directly with your phone, how exactly did you set it up ... ?

Then borrow or purchase an ... SDXC card and see if the issue recurs when formatted as exFAT.
You could try re-formatting your card with a different program and see if it helps but It may be your phone is having trouble reconciling a 32gb card to exFAT.
