XT9 predictive Input - HTC Excalibur

Does anyone have any idea how to turn this off? it is the most annoying think...

Nevermind, I got it. Alt+Space lets you switch to ABC mode on a per application basis.

Disable XT9 Permanently!
WM5 ONLY, YOU WILL LOSE CAPS!
To Disable XT9 change the following registry key to:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME\KbdDlls\000109FF=kdbhid.dll
NO MORE XT9 at all.

Would be great... if it worked... just tried your changing the registry entry as you described, rebooted, went in to my note app -- created a new note -- started typing, and, up came that damn annoying T9.

I like XT9. It seems to remember everything I type which saves loads of time.

I really liked T9 on my SDA, but don't like XT9 -- really don't like that you can't just shut it off completely and use it as needed. Always comes back.

That registry thing worked for me. No more XT9....at all.

How do I ACTIVATE XT9 on my HTC S620 ?? Seems only the Dopod 720 & T-Mobile Dash have XT9, but they are the same phones, made by HTC ?? Thanks, kampsy

lucky you... wish it worked for me.

Carriers add thier own stuff to devices they bring to market -- T-Mobile added xT9 to the Dash, HTC didn't. It's not something you can purchase.

This worked for me, but it's killed my CAPS key. I can't use it to capitalize any letters. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did the same to my device. Wow -- great tweak whoever posted that, did't get rid of my xT9 and trashed capital letters. Sort of like a manually-entered virus. Anyone recall what was in the resistry before the change was made?

Yeah it REALLY sucks, I hope the poster was aware of this little 'tweak' before s/he suggested it. More importantly, I hope he or she used it on their own before recommending it. I am real annoyed by this result but it serves me right for not taking anything here with a grain of salt. Things have changed a lot in the last couple of years.
I guess, I will just wait for the official T-Mo WM6 ROM for the Dash to get rid of this nagging issue. Whatever.

on WM6 if you turn it off in one app it turns it off for them all and then stays off if you reboot. Its Beautiful!

WM5 ONLY
WM5 only, WM6 doesn't have the same issue or settings, but I'm sure WM6 users know that already. Yes, tested it on my Dash and yes you lose caps, but if XT9 is so annoying, so what. BACKUP BEFORE YOU TRY ANYTHING POSTED ON A DEVELOPERS FORUM, OTHERWISE WAIT FOR THE MANUFACTURER OR CARRIER TO ADDRESS YOUR ISSUES! What have you contibuted to improve or correct any thing in this forum anyways?

Looking back, I see it was you who posted this little bug. Would've been nice if you posted something along the lines of 'the registry should say 'A', change it to 'B' so we could at least put it back. Yes, we should've backed our registries up first, but this looked like such an inviting little tweak. Who knew it was useles because:
A) It doesn't turn off xT9
B) It disables the ability to use capital letters
Oddly enough, when xT9 is active (which shouldn't be possible according to you) words that are remembered with capital letters are now the 1 and only way I can get a capital letter.
The other poster is right, WM6 is around the corner, might just as well wait until then to fix your 'helpful tweak'.
And, um, you consider this a contribution?

It's a contribution because he was trying. It's not his fault it also does something else. And it obviously works for some people, they're even saying so. So don't jump down someone's throat cause he was just putting out an idea. Back up your files, or do what I, and everyone should do, write down what it is you're changing so you can change it back.

Did you make this registry change? If not, what is your registry entry? If you did, apparently you were smart and wrote it down? What was it before you made the change?
Now that would be a contribution

Word Suggestion Issue

I don't have the Touch Pro 2 yet but I am trying to help someone out to fix his issue.
Basically his problem is the suggested word feature doesn't work as well as the Original Touch Pro.
Here is his issue. If anybody could help I would greatly appreciate it.
The correct word "também" is correctly suggested if I type "tamb". So far, so good (although on Touch Pro I could type "tambem" and he would suggest "também" also). The problem is with small words like "olá", "não", "é", "há", "ás", etc...
The T9 only starts suggesting words after the third letter.
Does anyone know how to make the T9 start suggesting after the first typed letter? It would make things better, but it would not solve the problem. There are many words that are single lettered: "é", "à", "á", etc..

Maybe a registry setting? I don't have the TP2 so I am not able to browse the registry and find it but I figured you guys would be the best help for this issue. Thanks in advance.
Try this...
Dont know if its what you are after, but might be
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534126
hope this helps
I think most t9 starts after the third word because just by typing one letter, there are thousands of words that it can be. So when more letters are typed, it narrows down the selection in the dictionary. The only words that might show up quicker is if the TP2 actually stores newly added words into the dictionary.

Hi. I'm the one who wrote the quoted message
Thanks dfootball56!
Let me just add some more info: what madjsp wrote is indeed true. However, on Touch Pro, this never happened... If I typed "esta", the XT9 on Touch Pro would suggest "está", "esta", "estámos", etc... On TP2, "está" only is suggested if I type "est".
This is, if I type the full accented word (without the accent) it does not suggests the correctly accented word...
Hope I'm not being too much confusing...
Thanks for any help!
you've been clear enough! same problem here, very very annoying since in italian accented letters are very common too.. no solutions / hacks / tricks??
that would be great! thaks a lot!

Hey man. Figured these guys on here were the best resource of new hacks and tweaks. I'm sure someone will get bored and try to figure something out...haha If I had one now I would search the registry for you but it hasn't came out in the U.S yet
Update: I mailed HTC and they understood and acknowledged my problem. Just hope it was worth the "effort"...
I'm quoting all the mails:
Me: (...) already described the problem
HTC:"Hi Nuno,
The T9 dictionary does not include words with special characters. You can add these words manually, and they will be remembered next time you need them. On the onscreen keyboards, tapping and holding on the letter assosciated with the special character will display all the extra characters for that letter, and you can drag and select them.
Best REgads"
Me: "Hi. Thanks for the fast reply. I'm afraid I disagree with you: the T9 does include words with special characters. I've never added words like "está", "também", "já", and they are there. The problem is that even if I add the word "olá" to the diccionary (not needed because it is already there), the T9 will not suggest it because the suggestions only start after the third letter. I type "ola" and it does not suggests me "olá". However, the T9 of the 'old' Touch Pro that I've got does this correctly: I type "estariamos" -the full word - and it suggests me "estaríamos". On the Touch Pro 2, I would have to type "estar" so it could suggest me "estaríamos". Are understanding what the problem is? I hope I'm not being too confuse. Thanks."
HTC:"Hi Nuno,
I understand the issue now, I do not think I can resolve this for you now, I have forwarded details to our developers for investigation and possible resolution. Please monitor our support pages for fixes and updates in teh future, and I will be back in contact once I have further news for you.
Best Regards"
I then closed the "support case". I think there's nothing much I can do...
Nuno, did you recieve any reply from their side?
great job nuno, so basically we have to wait and pray for them to fix it in a rom update or hotfix... wtf

Yes, I did... you can see what they told me on my previous post.
Unfortunately we just have to wait for a hotfix...
at least they said they will do this hotfix.. it's a good start, now let's hope it doesn'take ages!
Today I found that the T9 word suggestion work's perfectly if I write the messages in portrait mode (without hard keyboard out) and with the "telephone numeric keys" selected...
This is indeed a bug somewhere on the T9 definitions...
Hi.
I worked out a solution!! ;D ;D ;D
I borrowed a Portuguese Touch Pro, copied the following files from \windows
eT9.HQD.kdb
eT9.SQR.Accented.kdb
et9.sqr.portuguese.kdb
eT9ime.dll
KbdNopAll.dll
and then placed them on the \windows folder of the Touch Pro 2
Reboot and DONE!
Good "old" XT9 with the correctly suggested words!!
I've placed the files here, in case someone needs it:
http://www.nunosilva.com.pt/nuno/outras/T9TouchPro.rar
Mind that this is for the Portuguese TP2; I don't know if there are differences from TP2 from other countries.
Thank you all for your help
Well... not that solved after all...
I found out that the Touch Pro has specific keys for these marks:
/ ? + = - _
Meaning: on the Touch Pro 2, I can't write them with the hard keyboard
I also found out that it is only necessary to replace the eT9ime.dll file; all the other are pointless as far as I figured out.
So, to put it back in it's original form, just re-replace the eT9ime.dll file.
Here is the link, in case someone forgot to backup the files before replace them with the files from the Touch Pro:
http://www.nunosilva.com.pt/nuno/outras/T9TouchPro2.rar
Because it is an .dll file I don't really know if it is editable in any way... is someone knows how to do it, please do tell me..
Thanks.

Upper case letters at the start of sentences - doesn't seem to work for SMS messages

Is there any way to make the TP2 automatically put a capital letter at the beginning of sentences when composing an SMS text message? It does it in other applications, but not there.
Try XT9, seems to work with that, but that's for when your typing with the on screen keyboard.
EDIT: Never mind, I guess it has a mind of it's own. I tried it to make sure and now it's not doing it.

The whole reason I bought a TP2 was for the physical keyboard.
I understand...
Maybe a hack will be released soon, but you only bought it just for the keyboard? What about performance wise??? Keyboard was just a plus for me.
This is ONLY an issue with HTC's interface. If you go into the actual WM6.1 sms interface, this does NOT happen. It is an unfortunate thing too. I am a bit annoyed, but I just deal with it as it looks a lot hotter than the standard MS interface.
Yeah your right. I noticed in WM6.1 sms interface it only CAPS the "I" after a period or whatever. If you would type "I didn't know I could do that" it would look like this. "I didnt know i could do that"...horrible!!!

For me it took care of all the apostrophes that were common in things like "don't" or "can't" and would capitalize I or the first letter of the first word in the sentence. I hope HTC fixes this in later builds, but of course at this point we don't know.

A custom ROM will fix this before HTC does. And anyways, T-Mobile won't let us get our hands on the update, since they barely ever push out updates.
I'm just gonna wait for HardSPL and custom ROM's to be released. That's the best bet.

Oh I know. I am pretty much waiting for the same thing. HSPL and a good custom rom. I just really hope that either someone uses the same 6.1 branch with a lot of finger friendly enhancements, or I may go 6.5. I dunno. I have 6.5 on my Hermes. Overall like it a lot.
Any one have an update or suggest on this issue? This is the only topic I found on the subject. I really miss the phone fixing my punctuation.
Again the problem is only with HTC's SMS text interface.
I too am interested in this. I was hoping Energy's ROM would have fixed it but I didnt expect that.

TMOUS Keyboard Fix

I can't find anyone that has posted one yet, but I have made one for all you that have one and have the screwed alt key! The registry file is attached! It is not a hack at all. Just a registry export that worked!
Enjoy
edit//Cab added to post.
edit2//Also, just an FYI for everyone, the TMO keyboard has the GBP and Euro symbols on the hardware keyboard, it just wasn't put on the key itself. It is the same keys as the HTC version for them. alt+e = euro and alt+r = pound symbol.
edit3//Make sure HLKM\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KeyboardLayouFiles shows et9.rhodium.wwe.txt. Otherwise, the layout will still be messed up.
I think this should get stickied for a few weeks
If necessary. I am sure it will stay alive for a bit since a lot of us have the TMO version.
To be fair though, you get some of the credit. Your suggestion in that other thread is what made me do it. It took me about 1 hour of poking around.
Can any onecab this up for easy install? That would rock, changing values to match though reg editor does not work!
Just use Task Manager to import it. It worked for me.

Well my Rom is stock but I'll be sure to remember this if I flash a new one.
This fixes the alt key, for sure. But what about the shortcuts on the arrows? Those are still incorrect, for me. Is this a separate problem? I assumed it should be related, due to the fact that the shortcuts on the unlocked devices are different than the T-Mobile shortcuts.

my ctrl button doesn't function at all but I thought it's due to the PDAC hebrew support I have.
also FN+SYM doesn't ddo anything.
my TP2 is unbranded.

As noted by the thread title, this ONLY applies to the TMO (T-Mobile) US branded TP2. It applies to NO other branded or unbranded TP2 devices. It fixes the keyboard layout changes that were implemented on the TMOUS TP2. The Alt, ctrl, and a few other keys had some changes.
To fix your keyboard, flash back to the original rom, export the same reg key that is in the first post, and then apply that to the newly flashed rom.

AT&T Tilt 2 Keyboard???

Hi There-
Well, I managed to get one of the ROMs to install on the new Tilt 2 from AT&T but I have a small problem. I can't find a cab to fix the keyboard mapping problem. I found one for the tmobile version but no luck fixing the problem. So, I figured I would just flash back to the original ROM and wait for some folks to modify their ROMs to work with the Tilt 2 but now I can't find that either. Am I just not finding it in my searches or is it just not here yet.... any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Titl 2's just started landing in people's hands today. It's going to be a few more days until there is a cab released to fix it.

It's not too bad, its in the format of the regular tp2. number keys on the top row and all that. Kind of nice to have actually,if I can memorize the keys quick enough I might leave it that way
I agree that it is kind of messed up. I bought a t-mo version, and I plan to sim unlock it and use it on att. I freaking LOVE this keyboard! I actually thought about checking eventually at htc part replacement stores to buy a stock keyboard, and physically changing the keyboard when I sell this one one and pick up a tilt2 (only b/c the t-mo can't pick up the att 3g frequencies).
Good luck finding your KB fix!

Dude, the finger keyboard is good enough to last me a few days until one of the wizards on this board comes up with the registry update. I am so happy with this phone so far it's crazy. The improvements to Office alone are awesome.
EDIT:
CONFIRMED TO WORK.
it's usually as simple as a registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\
CWSLayout=1
LayoutID=502
update: scockman found one more key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\IME\Keyboard LayoutFiles
07FF=eT9.Rhodium.Cingular_US.kmap.txt
if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to play with it more when I actually get around to flashing my Tilt 2
Flash back to original ROM, export the keyboard settings using totalcommander or phm reg, then flash to custom rom, and import keyb settings.
i'm about to attach my .reg files from my stock tilt 2 rom. someone who has flashed their tilt 2 install them then soft reset and let us know what happens. also you might want to backup your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\ just to be on the safe side.

Woo Hoo!! That fixed my issue, these were missing from the ROM that I was using "EnergyROM".
There is one other registry that everyone may be missing that needs to be set:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\IME\KeyboardLayoutFiles
07FF=eT9.Rhodium.Cingular_US.kmap.txt
After these were set I did a reset and everything is working.
Do you mind if i ask how did you get a tilt 2? I checked the att site and it is only showing on the business side called att and they said its not availalbe yet?
thks
J
I'm an AT&T Dealer and placed an order for 1 and got it. The dealers that order 20-50 won't get their's for a while because there is not enough to go around.
* I'm currently using the energy rom and the keyboard is off somewhat like the original tilt was when it came out. The number keys are off and most of the top row keys as well. Someone suggested to flash back to the original ROM but silly me didn't back it up. I assumed it would be here. I think I'm just a little too much ahead. I will; however, try the registry fix and see if it fixes my problem. Thanks for all of the help guys...
I guess I am a little confused as to "what" actually fixed your layout problem? Did you have to put ALL of those registry entries in or just the ones you added to the message? Anyway someone could put that in a .cab?
thanks!
Tilt2 KB reg edits - mostly good
I can confirm that:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\
CWSLayout=1
LayoutID=502
helps...the OK key and others along bottom row are still not right but at least the FN and Caps are back to normal (using energyRom). an edit of the Cingular_US.txt should help. I'll try that in a bit.
Using Adv Config to set Cingular keyboard doesn't work...had to reg edit to use Cingular_US as indicated above.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\IME\Keyboard LayoutFiles
07FF=eT9.Rhodium.Cingular_US.kmap.txt
I, too, wish i had saved Tilt2 keymap reg before my first flash.
Remember, takes both steps to get Tilt2 KB to 'normal'
Hey guys,
moved ya over to general...

Screen Keyboard (Keypad) OFF!!!

Goodnight people ...
I have a question for you:
Because I hate the touchscreen keyboard, I wanted to know if there was a way to prevent it being opened automatically!
Let me explain .. when I write a new text message, a new mail, when I use opera but when I select any text box, it automatically opens the touchscreen keyboard!
can prevent this thing from happening?
I only use the HW keyboard ... and would prevent the automatic opening of the touchscreen keyboard!
I dug into the registry, more precisely here:
[HKLM \ Software \ Tegic \ eT9]
and all subfolders below ... I could not find anything about it!
How can I do?
Thanx!!!
Try this:
Code:
[I]HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\TurnOffAutoDeploy[/I] = 1
[I]HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange[/I] = 0
[I]HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Disable Auto SIP[/I] =1 (Note the space in "Internet Explorer"; there's a different directory without the space)
I found these online, so I don't know if they'll work.
Actually, I think only the second tweak ('AllowChange') is necessary. I remember trying it before. You have to know, however, that it will (should) completely disable the virtual keyboard; you can only launch the SIP by changing the value back to '1'.
yeah i used to turn it off with a tweak program. turning off auto works most places but not in opera. however later builds of opera wont show the onscreen keyboard if the physical is kicked out.
thanks for explanation ... really helpful, but my intention was not to completely disable the keypad, but only prevent it opened automatically!
I don't like the on-screen keyboard popping up all the time either. So I took an interest in this thread. I found that of the suggested registry changes mentioned above, the oly one I needed to impliment was this one:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\TurnOffAutoDeploy = 1
This seems to keep the on-screen keyboard from popping up on its own, but still allows me to access the keyboard when I need it.
Hopes this is helpful...

Whoops! Well, you did say in your first post, "I only use the HW keyboard." Sorry about that.
Maybe you should try ScratchyPDX's route:

You're welcome!
It's strange, however, that I have that same exact reg tweak, but my virtual keyboard still pops up on its own (using the ROM in my sig).
I guess, in this situation, YMMV!

I tried one of the tweaks I listed a few months ago. I think the "AllowChange" tweak disables the launch (auto and manual) of the virtual keyboard.
I remember helping someone on an EnergyROM thread about this same topic. He wanted to completely disable the virtual keyboard, so he was happy with the tweak.

With this tweak [HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange = 0]!!! the problem is solved, because the touch pad is completly powered off!!!
The only one problem, is the impossibility of opening the touch pad when I want without remod this register key and make a SR!!!

You could just add a DWORD for the "TurnOffAutoDeploy" key. That should suffice.
You're welcome for the tweak, but I understand the problem of having to remod the registry and soft reset when you need it. Maybe you could push for an app that can "switch" the registry key for you without a soft reset?

You're right... I never thought to create the DWORD!
I try now... and then I post the result!
PS: I can create an app that modifies the registry to enable and disable the touchpad, but I think it is impossible to avoid the SR, because without it, the touchpad still does not work even after I edit the registry, because this type of change requires necessarily an SR to become effective.
I've tried to add manually the DWORD "TurnOffAutoDeploy=1", but the problem isn't solved!!!
PS: I can create 2 different CAB... 1 for "Powering ON" and 1 for "Powering Off" the Touchpad... because i'm not a programmer, and i haven't the necessary competence to create an application in c++!
The only one problem, is that i don't know how to avoid the SR necessary to make active the change!
If I find a way to solve the SR problem, i have solved my touchpad problem!

Update: After using my phone this weekend with the above tweek applied, I found that the KB still pops up occasionally, but less often than before. For me this is acceptable. You mileage may vary.

Can you post here the list of the various DWORD that you have in SIP folder of your registry?
I think that you have other settings that I haven't....!

Like I said in post6, I have that DWORD in my registry, but it does still pop up. As a matter of fact, the only time it doesn't pop up is when I try to send an SMS!
Mobilnaut SYM

Let me explain .. when I write a new text message, a new mail, when I use opera but when I select any text box, it automatically opens the touchscreen keyboard!
can prevent this thing from happening?
I only use the HW keyboard ... and would prevent the automatic opening of the touchscreen keyboard!

You can try Mobilnaut SYM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459253).
When Mobilnaut SYM is activated, the SIP does not pop up when the keyboard is open.
for my it work with the "Deploy" reg kack. the "allow" one killed it all toghether. I't wouldn't apear, even if i click it.
I have a diferente problem now. I'm Portuguese, I need special char "ç" a lot. my harware keyboard doesn't have that. so I have to pop up the SIP every time just for that one.
Can someaone develop a small app i can link to a hardware button, that all it does is type "ç"?
Thank you!

There is a registry edit that worked just fine on my T-Mobile HTC HD2, so you might want to check it out.
