Keyboard lock - HTC Excalibur

Is there a keyboard lock feature or is it third party software only? By locking software,I mean when screen blanks out-is there a way to keep the phone home screen from popping up by pressing any button?

do you mean besides holding the end call or holding the *z button?

does this work?
start > settings > system > button > lock > lock all buttons except power button

Automatic Keylock at http://maniac.fschreiner.de/ will suit your needs.
Proggy is free and includes some very cool extras like configurable repeating notifications, configurable screen saver, some integration with his other free sw (cell based profile switcher, etc).
I have been using this and his SmartJournal proggy for sometime. Rock soild and better than most pay sw that i have come across!

Thanks for the responses. I am getting used to a smartphone again after using a ppc for a year.I appreciate the help.

Loved the software-exactly what i needed.
Thanks a ton.

Tried the above program, it didn't fit the bill. :/ For example, when an incoming SMS message occurs, I was able to hit hardware buttons and activate various programs. :/
For a keylock, I'm looking for a program that locks everything. Every keypress, every button, every program, the screen, EVERYTHING.. until I use that one "special" button (combo) to unlock the phone.
Any ideas on a program like this?

Yes, I'd like to have this too.... It annoys me that on the past couple smartphones I've had they keep allowing the screen to come on when misc keys are pressed, which causes the battery to drain much quicker since the phone in a case or pocket will press the keys all day....

is there screen lock software for xdaiis

is there any software to lock screen for blue angel? thanks
Yes there is...
I just found an excellent program called "ScreenLock". It turns the screen off and locks all the buttons. The only way to unlock the screen is to press button 1 and button 4 together (on the XDAIIs this is the Calender and messenging buttons) or do a soft reset. This program is perfect for listening to music and also save battery life too.
The cab file is attached below. Drag it to your device and run it from there.
Hope this helps.

Cheers for this!

Yep, leapt straight in to my "must have" list.
Fantastic little tool!
The best thing I found to do was assign it a button like the "Record" button which I never used! You can then lock the screen with one touch.
Great when playing MP3s and beats paying loads of dosh for an iPod!

problems with screenlock
Installed screenlock on my blue angel (SX66). When I launch it from the program panel, the screen goes black and then a moment later it flashes, the black then flashes. This continues until I manage to get a screen press in during the momentary flash at which time the screen then remains on and active. Not sure what is happening, anyone else see this or am I trying to use it incorrectly.
Thanks
David
is there anyway to change the unlock key(use other key except calender and message?) how?
I think they're the only keys that you can use. I expect that they are coded into the software itself.

i think you might installed it the storage card. i have same experience as you when i first time install it, you should install it to the default directory.
psShutXP
Try psShutXP, excellent freeware with lot of functionality
Do you guys use media player for playing mp3s? Cause it's pretty damn easy to configure a button to toggle the screen off. And you can still keep your buttons free for song functions like previous, next or volume up/down.

I can cope with that one Tap opn the signal icon in the top, when the boc drops down, there is an option to turn on 'flight mode'. This stops it receiving a reception.

I believe this is only done by adding third party software. I bought Pocket Plus and can highly recommend it. I think this also solves your 'stopping programs' problem too.
I wondered the one about switching apps myself actually. With my iPaq there was a iTask button, or something like that.
if you have pocket plus (can highly recommend as well) tap and hold in the top right hand corner and it will have a list of whats running, select from there.
This a great little tool for closing all your running programmes - and it's free. (doesn't close activesync though)

for closing and switching tasks i'm using DTSysview.
Assigned the IE h/w button to it, makes things easy to manage
there are many task apps you can use. it really comes down to which app you prefer, freeware or shareware. i use wisbar advance because of the pretty skins, the option to minimize or completely close any running apps from the taskbar. i am also a fan of cascading start menu.
i use psShutXP to restart my unit, turn off the back light, and shut down the unit.
lastly, i use HandyLauncher for quick access to my Top 10 apps.
HandySwitcher
I am using HandySwitcher to switch from application to application and closing the active applications... It works perfect for mel....

simple phone lock required. can you write one for us all

Hello everyone
After trying all the phone lock software out there I still can’t find what I’m looking for, what I’m looking for is so simple an icon in the start menu to lock the phone then r2u or t2u & unlock when phone rings and that’s it. I don’t like the idea of having to press the power button to wake up the screen to be able to unlock the device I’m also not interested in all of the other features that most of the phone lock’s have. Can someone help?
I have tried sensor lock I did like it a lot but I was unable to configure it and you could tell it was running in the background as the screen would jump. Plus throw in my case and a few beers and I know I’m going to drop it.
Many Thanks Jez

try Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL), you could slide to the right on the screen to unlock the phone or use the windows default unlock.
Hello gbjack
Just tried that app and it’s just to much setting up and I don't think it’s going to do what I want it to do. Just hope someone is willing to write a program going by all the forums I have searched it will be popular
Cheer’s for the reply and suggestion
I tried many lock apps as well, but in the end the standard windows lock is what im using. No hassle, and it simply works as intended. I just press the "hangup" virtual button, and after the second vibration feedback i can be sure that the phone is locked. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Then you have to try " WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7B". Only four or five options but it cannot lock your hardware key during call.

This is good specialy the turn on bluetooth on call feature, but when we have an income call, the app takes ages to know what to do and the phone only begins to ring 5 secs after. Lockmelite it's the best one around but has a problem with alarms going to background after unlock. The "almost perfect" one is s2u but huge memory consuption makes background app's close or restart.
Hello jpl69
Tried this app found it to involved to setup and still does not do what I am looking for which is tap the screen to wake up so I than can unlock the phone using a s2u app. I find it bizarre that there are many apps to unlock the phone but you still have to push the power button to operate them. Surely it can’t take much program writing to add this feature. Jez
We have to push an hardware ley to wake up our devices from a low battery consuption state (suspend mode) and unfortunaly only have the power and volume hard keys so if you want to wake up your device with a tap on screen you'll only have a couple of hours with a full charge.
Now it makes sense why the screen sleeps if the battery only last for a couple of hours. Just a shame that the power button is so fiddly to operate. Jez
Yes, and it makes no sense having an device lock app (except on incoming calls). I only use it because of my 2 year old son that found the little tiny power on key , and made a couple of phone calls.
P.S. with a registry tweak you can enable the volume keys to wake up your device.
May be this could be your appropriate application:

That is brilliant and can be found here.
Simple and effective (needs a reboot after install, and is found under settings.
Just to be helpful... here's the brilliantly useful Reg tweak to allow wake-up from the volume keys.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
- set key: defaultkeylock from 1 to 0
- softreset
LockMeLite is definitely my favourite (especially with the above tweak), but as mentioned already, the alarm snooze / disappearing to background problem is a constant frustration.
Hello flid
Sorry for the delay everyone just got back from Canada so been busy catching up and sleeping. So how do I go about tweaking the reg key? I know how navigate to the reg key on a computer but not on my mobile
I changed my left soft key to lock the phone on the Home start screen as it was doing nothing useful except jumping to a phone operators website:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath = windows\Endkey.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText = Lock (or whether text you want).
You just need a windows mobile registry editor. There are several free ones. My current Dutty ROM has one inbuilt, but from what I can gather the popular options are Total Commander (free!), Schap's Registry (free), PHM RegEdit (which is built in to Dutty's ROM) and Resco Registry Editor (not free - but definitely the most finger friendly). There may well be others.

[Guide] A simple list of easy Quality-of-Life changes for your XZ1C!

Hey everyone! I just got an XZ1C myself a few days ago, and I'd like to share a few of the little quality of life changes I personally use to make the everyday experience with this phone more to how I like it. I figured maybe everyone could contribute a few ideas here and there to help other users deal with things they might be frustrated with, but not know a solution for.
A couple of notes - I gave up the root life a while ago, so all of these solutions are non-root! Also, some of these apps are paid apps (though they might have lite or free versions). Sorry! But as a software developer myself, I have the obligation to pay it forward when I find a nice app.
So here goes!
Making the volume keys default to Media Volume:
Having owned a Samsung phone before, this is one of the things I miss most in almost any other Android phone. But, as they say, there's an app for that! There's a very simple app called Media Volume Only (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=catchpower.gogo.mediavolumeonly&hl=en), which binds your volume keys to Media by default. It asks for Call permissions to see if you're in a call, where it will then bind the volume keys to call volume. Otherwise, it will always be Media, which is great!
However, that means there isn't a super easy way to changing your ring volume, unless you first press the volume key to bring up the sliders and hitting the down arrow to show the rest of the sliders....which brought me to:
Re-adding the missing Ring/Vibrate Mode switch to quick switches:
I am using Central Europe .374 + US oem file to get Fingerprint+VoLTE on T-mobile; I'm not sure if it's because of the CE1 region or whatever else, but I couldn't find any button in the quick settings that would just toggle the phone to ring mode, vibrate mode or silent.
To remedy this, I use Shortcutter (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leedroid.shortcutter&hl=en). This allows you to enable a ton of different switches in the quick settings dropdown, though some of them may not work properly without root and only with other phones. After installing Shortcutter, swipe over to the "Pull-Down" tab, then hit "System Setting Tiles". In this list, scroll down and you'll find "Ring Mode". Turning this switch on will put the Ring Mode icon into the box of icons you can edit your quick settings with. Finally, pull down your quick settings, click the pencil icon to modify the quick settings and scroll down to find Ring Mode.
This way, it's easy to switch the phone to silent before going into a movie, or a meeting at work.
Fixing the crazy stock backlight control:
The stock backlight is a little crazy right now. It jumps around when the room is dark and it does not transition smoothly. A great app for controlling backlight is Lux (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux&hl=en). It even allows you to keep different profiles and define exactly how bright you want the screen to be in any lighting situation, and it will keep a map of your selections for you! You can control all sorts of variables, like how quickly it will transition, if it should only transition given what % of lighting change, so on and so forth. It's really very powerful and useful. I haven't had any trouble with the XZ1C display since installing Lux, which I've used on previous phones as well. Highly recommend this one! There's a free version called Lux Lite (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitocassisi.luxlite&hl=en), but I've never tried it so YMMV.
Alternative for No Double Tap to Wake (or not having Ambient Display):
This is another one I have almost always used on phones that aren't Nexii/Pixel or Motorola. Gravity Screen (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en) gives you a ton of different ways to automatically wake up the phone to the lockscreen. I find that using ONLY the Proximity Sensor setting to turn ON the screen (and turning everything else off) has negligible effect on the battery, and maintains extreme usefulness. With just that setting, when my phone is on the desk I can poke the phone where the proximity sensor is (as if I one-tap it) and it will wake up. If I take the phone out of my pocket, the phone turns on and is already waiting for me by the time I look at it. Super convenient!
UPDATE: Another user (quack3d) mentioned the app WaveUp(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup) which does exactly how I have Gravity Screen set up. If you want just that, this seems to be a great and simpler alternative! Thanks!
If you want more options, it has all sorts of other things like turn on by motion, etc. etc....I personally don't use those though, so I can't vouch for how well they work.
Double Tap to Sleep
I'm pretty sure you have to pay for this one, but Nova Launcher Prime (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime&hl=en) is an incredible launcher, and it allows you to specify custom gestures on the desktop. The gestures can trigger all sorts of things, one of which is Screen Lock. If you select the Time-Out method of locking the screen, it will work with fingerprint unlocking.
Custom Auto-Rotation Switching:
Normally, I don't like auto-rotation. I use my phone a lot in bed (lying sideways), but I still want to use it in portrait. So, I prefer to have my phone default to NO auto-rotation. That being said, it's annoying when you pull up a funny gif or the photo album or youtube and you want to just flip your phone over to watch a video. Sure, you can drag down the quicksettings and flip that switch, but there's a better way! That's where Automate (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate&hl=en) comes in! Automate allows you to program your phone to do just about anything (especially if you have root) based on custom triggers.
In Automate, if first select "More flows..." and search for a script called "Auto Enable Rotation" by the author Anthony Beaumont. Once you download this script and run it, it will present you with 2 options, either to "start" the script service, or to "modify" the list of apps. You'll want to "modify" the list of apps and start a new one. To this, you can add apps such as Album, Youtube, Twitch and whatever else you want to watch in landscape mode. Finally, once that's done, stop the script and start it again, but this time select "start". (You can also select in the 3 dot menu to have this script run at start-up. Highly recommended!) Now, when you open Album/Youtube/Twitch etc. the phone should automatically flip to auto-rotation.
Enter all your app and website passwords automatically with fingerprint:
For better or for worse, I keep all of my online passwords saved in Lastpass. It turns out that once you have an account and saved passwords, Lastpass has an incredible app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lastpass.lpandroid&hl=en) that can pop up over Chrome and just about any other app on your phone that can fill in the username/password fields for you using your fingerprint! It doesn't work for all the different browsers out there (I just use Chrome), and there may have been a pay wall for the in-app password filling, I forgot (sorry!). That said, it's super convenient to head to any site and just tap the fingerprint to log in.
Additionally, if you're a Lastpass user already, they also have a Lastpass Authenticator (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lastpass.authenticator&hl=en) that works in place of the Google Authenticator (you can add Google Authenticator 2factor sites to the LastPass one), which is IMHO superior because the keys are linked to your account rather than to the physical phone. Also, if you have LP Authenticator + the Chrome addon on your PC/Mac, on some sites you don't even have to enter the Authenticator number, you can just press "approve" on your phone to get into the website on your PC. Awesome!
Send links from your PC to phone or phone to PC
Ever read something on your PC and wish you could link it to your phone super quickly and not have to go through emailing it to yourself? I use Pushbullet (Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pushbullet.android&hl=en PC: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pushbullet/chlffgpmiacpedhhbkiomidkjlcfhogd?hl=en), which allows you to directly link webpages from PC to phone and vice versa. Additionally, if you give it the permissions, it can hook up your phone's notifications to your Windows notifications (not sure about mac), including allowing you to read and send SMS from your PC. I believe it also has file transfer capabilities, but I don't use it.
I think that's it for now...I'll add more when I think of them. These are just a few of the mods I run which makes using the phone more effortless and enjoyable; please, feel free to add more and I'll add them to the list if there's something you want to share! Hope this helps someone out there!:highfive:

Re-adding the missing Ring/Vibrate Mode switch to quick switches:

Alternative implementation that I use: Add a toggle on the home screen to quickly switch between Ring/Vibrate/Silent modes
First install Media-Mute [free & ad-free]. What this app does is automatically mute the media volume whenever the ringer volume is also muted, which applies to both Vibrate mode and Silent mode.
For some reason, since Android 4.x Google has decided that Silent mode should only apply to the ringer, instead of silencing everything that can make sounds out of the speaker. Media-Mute fixes that.
Next, install Silent Mode Toggle [free & ad-free], then add the widget on the home screen. Switching modes is now super easy, just tap on the toggle.
What I really appreciate about this app is that it allows customization to the toggle order. For example, I never use the vibrate mode, so I can set it to toggle between Ringer > Silent only.
As a bonus, it also lets you use your own custom icons for the toggle, super cool and makes it possible to perfectly complement your home screen layout.
Hide the annoying "running in the background" notification that comes with Android 8.0
With Android 8.0 Oreo, Google thought it would be a great idea to permanently remind you of any background processing currently running in the form of an impossible to dismiss notification.
While the intention was well meaning, the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
Thankfully, there's an app for that! Just install this cleverly named app Hide "running in the background" Notification [free & ad-free], problem solved!
Vibrate phone when call connects, ends
Yet another app to the rescue! VibCall [free & ad-free] brings this useful feature found on some OEM phones to any compatible Android device.
Basically, your phone will vibrate once to let you know that a call has connected, and twice when a call has ended. It's something that once you've used, you wonder why it's not baked into the Android system as a default option.
Add a fingerprint (Smart Lock) compatible screen lock toggle on the home screen
So Sony has unilaterally decided to remove double tap to sleep feature with no sign of bring it back. But I still want to turn off the screen and lock the device by tapping on the screen instead of waiting for the system to hibernate or hitting the power button.
The OP listed a paid solution which brings back double tap to sleep, but for those looking for a free alternative, this is the solution I'm currently using - Smart Screen Lock Pro [free & ad-free].
It's not a double tap anywhere convenience, but a toggle that is better than nothing, and most importantly it's compatible with fingerprint unlock. I've tried numerous screen off apps in the Play store, and this is the only one that I was satisfied with.
IMPORTANT: Take the time to carefully read and follow setup instructions, it's necessary for it to work properly due to OS restrictions. Once it's setup correctly, simply add a shortcut on the home screen and tap it to lock.
It's worth mentioning that it's not a true "instant" screen off and lock, but without root this is probably the best solution we'll get.
Non-root ad blocking
Ads are a necessary evil for the current economics of the Internet, but aside from the annoyance factor, they eat up precious mobile data, plus there's also very real security risks with ad networks, potentially hogging your phone's resources and draining the battery.
Whatever the argument, if you do decide to block ads, there are quite a lot of ad blockers to choose from.
Personally, I use dns66 [free & ad-free]. In my experience, it's very lightweight, and I haven't seen any ads in my browser or apps.
It does have its quirks though, sometimes downloads fail, such as OTA update or file in browser, for one reason or another (the author says it's a bug with the Android OS itself, see linked post).
But it's easy to workaround, just temporarily disable dns66 by tapping pause on the notification, and download again. After download has completed, tap the notification again to resume.
By the way, this is also the main reason I installed the hide background notification app.

Samsung phone app: on speaker screen sleeps after 10 or so seconds.
Found an option called smart stay. enabled that and found lift to wake option..
no way to disable face recognition to open up the screen to the lock screen. I end up hitting the power button to turn the screen on it gets turned on by seeing a face right after that I hit the button and it Powers off this is in a matter of seconds. can't break a habit of powering on the screen with the power button. And that's if the face recognition works. Sometimes it doesnt turn on. There is a way to disable this but face rec to unlock the phone has to be enabled, defeats the purpose.
Trying turn screen off, end up taking a screenshot.
Battery sucks.
When you grab the phone watching something horizontal, the palm covers the bottom speaker.

the cursor upside down gps logo drag is stupid, draws up a magnifying glass, very irritating.
voice to text is just bad.
Some times highlight something, the clipboard does not popup, gotta grab the page n scroll it, clipboard pops up.
Google suggestions & auto correction sucks.

I have been Android user since the beginning and have a 2nd device which has been an iPhone for 4 years.
Android is superior to iOS in many many ways. The thing is, for the average Joe, the person who will use Verizon's Message+ app just because it was installed, for this user iOS is a better option. Simply works and also simple... no carrier crap.
I know a lady, had the IPhone 6, but really liked the look of the S7 or S8 , cant remember which, she only had it for a month, but she is like theres too much stuff on this to understand, so she went back to iPhone, then decided the IPhone was boring and migrated back to the S9.
As for performance, my partner's friend has the latest iPhone and when they are on a call together in messenger her friend keeps dropping out, my partner has the Samsung A50 because she dosent like curved edges. There never seems to be issues with other people in messenger.
And i think most governments use iPhones because they can't be modified by the average person. And this is why apple sales get their quota, government organizations and Reporter's. Even Mr Trumpty prefers his Samsung over IPhone.
This thread is just weird. If there are multiple apps that handle the same call on Android then you are presented with a prompt by the OS to select a default app to handle that function and then going forward that app will be the one to answer the call when an action triggers that function so I don't understand how this user is getting multiple clipboard apps getting triggered by the clipboard function.
to add another thing there's no way to disable face recognition to open up the screen to the lock screen. I end up hitting the power button to turn the screen on it gets turned on by seeing a face right after that I hit the button and it Powers off this is in a matter of seconds. can't break a habit of powering on the screen with the power button.
OP updated.
The phone turns off because the proximity sensor flashes so your ear doesn't cut people off
Perfectly sensible

LOLWUTT? Just take the phone back and get something else because clearly you don't have a single clue what you're doing or you're trolling.
Only complain I have is that my 3-4 sot equates to 60-80% usage of the battery. I've cleared cache, put most apps to sleep, no gos, no wifi (at work no wifi) no media except Spotify to and from work (1hr total) no nothing autosync.
I'm sick of it. Makes me miss my old phones more because I could leave those things on and get 2 days avg out of them before charging, and that includes watching Netflix, Hulu, YouTube or my Plex server

There is an option in settings > biometrics and securtity> face id > "stay in lock screen" after the phone is unlocked by face-unlock.
You just toggle that switch on.
If you toggle this on, next time you press the power button, the phone will get into the lock screen, it will unlock (if it reads your face), but it will stay in lock screen (so as you can read your notifications etc.). You will have to scroll up to get into the home screen.
I suppose that's what you want to do, correct?

So i have to enable facebrec to enable this??
I hate it even more. There is a way to disable this but face rec to unlock the phone has to be enabled, defeats the purpose.

Can you please explain what you are trying to do?
You want to press the power button and not get into home screen, but stay in Lock screen, correct?
If you don't enable face id, it will not unlock and take you to home screen directly. It will stay in lock screen till you unlock it either by the fp scanner or the pin etc.
If you want to have face id enabled, but not get into home screen directly, you toggle the switch I told you in my previous post.
So what is it that you want to do?
He's trying hard to troll, you just covered every other sensible option.
