Windows Vista + Rombootloader not working! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

ok so im running vista and when i try to use the romupdateutility it errors out. neone have a working ver of romupdate i can use?

Dont try to update ROM under Vista with old update utils!
Some people started update process under Vista but was not able to finish, therefore corrupting the ROM. Apparently a lot of update utilities are not compatible with Vista.

if vista didnt look as nice as it does i wouldnt be using it. thank god i was smart enough to dual boot!

Maybe install VMWare on Vista to host an WinXP

Or maybe not install/use vista at all what for?!? Another M$ fatware that instead of running other programs it drains all of the pc resources for itself to provide additional $$$ to M$
P.S. VMWare is a masterpiece.

T Mobile PPC unlock.

I have wallaby ppc with
ROM version : 3.14.40.eng
ROM date : 11/26/02
Radio version : 6.18
Protocol version 324e4
This is locked to T mobile. I want to unlock it. I have usb cable with me. I downloaded xdaunlock.exe & saved it in my PPC with help of active sync. I opened the soft in PPC it says cannot get codes. I think this version of my PPC is too low. WHat am i suppose to do now? Should I upgrade? if i have to upgrade please tell how to upgrade or is there any old soft to unlock this? Please help me.
You should upgrade to the xda-developers special edition ROM
xdaunlock requires the wmodem application, which isn't included in your ROM-Version.
Or you can alos cook your own rom. Best choice for unlocking would be 3.17.03

You do not need any Linux on your machine.
The special Rom comes in exe format and if you cook your own, you can choose between exe-Format for easy-Flashing or nb1/nbf-Format for secure flashing.
You find Special Edition ROM here:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/special_rom_1.2.exe.zip
and a Rom kitchen here:

Thanks a lot again. I have stared downloding the special edition rpm now. Is it ok if I run it in the Windows98 meachine? Should I transfer the full 15mb soft into the PPC? I think i am asking u a stupid question but i am not too familiar with these PPC. Does this works only in WIN XP or WIN 98 is ok?
I think win 98 should be ok.
It just requires a working active sync connection (I never tried this under win 98)
You don't have to transfer the file to your PPC.
Unzip the file, so that you get the real exe-file, run it on your PC and follow he instructions....
Stefan
I will try it out in an hour & post the results.
Thanks a lot. I unlocked my ppc without any problem. Thank U very much.

ROM Upgrading under Windows Vista - is it possible?

Hi there!
Want to repeat my post here:
Did anybody have successfull tries to update ROM from Vista? I can't do it with AKU3.2 beta8 by standart way, can't do it with MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (got 'ERROR 150 ROM UPGRADE UTILITY ERROR'), can't do it with mtty (can't choose USB, only COM). Is it avaliable another way to do ROM upgrade?

Thanks for irrefragable answer
If you have RC1 there is a problem with the Windows Mobile Device Centre (so im told!) and so no sync at all apart from folder and files. If you have the first Beta release it works on sync - duno about upgrade yet though.
I'm awaiting the fix....
you can enable the WMDC in RC1...there is a thread on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=61046&highlight=
that shows you how to enable it....mines working and sycing with Outlook 2007
ive not tried any sort of ROM action though...not willing to brick my wizard...
Damn - mine wont sync for love nor money!
I've done a hard reset - even reflashed the thing. Added the registry entry - forced WMDC.msi to install and still nothing - MWDC just crashed with a hideous error whenever i run it manually from control panel too!
AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!
which version of vista are you on?
I am on RC1.... build 5600
strange, thats exactly the same as me.
all i did was ad the WHOS key, reboot, download, reboot....sync!
When i run WMDC i get:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceManager.IForeman.StartFactory(Guid factory)
at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceCenter.Program.Main()
Im not a happy bunny!

Attention Mac users!

Hey there. I was wondering if any of you were into flashing... One thing I wanted to ask was, is there any way of flashing ROMs onto our devices by virtue of using VMware Fusion?
I am a mac user and I always use my virtual machine to do all my flashing and have never had a problem. I am currently using VMware on my macbook
I have a windows xp pro sp3
and a vista partition but all flashing is done under xp.
I have flashed a treo 750
Kaiser
i780
I tried recently to flash a new ROM onto my TyTN from VMware, but it tells me that I need to get a newer version of upgrader, or something like that.

It's 100x easier (and faster) to flash via your microSD card, if your phone has the ability.
I gave up on flashing via VMware/Parallels after I pseudobricked my phone a few times (thankfully I was HardSPL'd, so it was easy to recover).
I suggest you to do that operation by using a phisical Windows OS. I do that by using Parallels Desktop for Mac but it woesn't work (e.g.) perfectly using the Nokia Software Update.
No issues at all with PDA (JasJar and TyTn2).
So there's Parallels... anyone have experience with doing this on Fusion?

hi..I've a G4 and a new macBookPro and to flash roms into my i780 I've tried to use parallels (on Intel's macBookPro) with 2 positive results in 10 times..firewall and other programs in conflict(..I'm using XpPro sp3 and MacOSX10.5)....the best way is BOOT CAMP for me : more stablility than virtual machine!!
..good night..

Help needed, kitchen doesn't work

Folks,
I have a small prob after upgrading from Win XP SP3 to Vista Ultimate 64b.
The system always asks for the MSVCR71.ll which is already copied into Win/System32.
Also, I tried it with Ervs Visual Kitchen 3.0 and the newer 8.7.
I posted the error warning @ htc-developers so please find the overview here: http://htc-developers.de/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2069.
Installed on machine: NetFramework 3.5 SP1 incl. SDK, Visual C++ 2005+2008 redistributable.
It would be nice If someone could take a look onto this.....Thx in advance

I really don't like Windows Vista, It's not good an operation system for cooking Rom.
Already recognized that, but what shall I do? downgrading to XP again?
Guess I'm not the only one trying to cook with Vista.
Yeahhhhh, downgrade to Xp.
Or use XP in a VM with VMWare Player!
No way,
I know cooks working on Vista an it works fine. i guess there is only one small application I forgot to install. Won't downgrade again to XP
Thx Anime for that VMWare thing. Will test it later
Okay, I think I got it. The MSVCR71.dll needs to be copied also into Win/SysWOW32

Loading ROMs with Vista

Has there been any update on loading roms with Vista? Or do we still have to have an XP machine to configure our s620 with modified ROMs
If anybody can point me in the right direction.
Cheers
You can flash with Vista just the same as XP, XP is just preferred more stable method as uses active sync rather than WMDC, but i flash with Vista 64 all fine
Thanks for the update. Is there a sticky for that? or do I have to modify the xp one?

I have no problem flashing my Excaliber using Windows 7 Ultimate 64. I would assume Vista of any flavor can do it as well. I find Windows Mobile Device Center works better than the old ActiveSync application, at least on Windows 7.
