Roaming Icon on Cingular Network with new XDA Live Rom - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I have installed the new XDA Live Rom on my HTC TyTN. I am on the Cingualr/AT&T network and I have a roaming triangle icon on the top of the screen. I had this same icon on the the original HTC Rom when I received the phone but when I upgraded to the Cingular Roms the roaming icon disappeared. Is there some registry setting or cab file that I need to install to remove this icon?

I would like to know this also...

There is a cab file in one of the cingular's extended rom files that removes the roaming triangle. I can't remember which one though. SInce, this rom does not overwrite your extended rom, maybe you still have the cab in your extended rom. Use total commander to look at your \extended_rom
You could download WinCE cab manager and review each cab in a Cingular extended rom and then apply the right cab file.

Thanks for the reply. I installed all the cabs in the Cingular extended rom but still no joy. Any other ideas?

I was running the 2.06 Cingular ROM and once I installed WM6 Vanilla I saw the Roaming Triangle.
Its not the radio since that doesn't change with the current WM6 roms available. I also tried running all cabs in the ext_rom but no luck there, also tried rolling back to the cingular ROM and soft reset before customizations could begin and no triangle.
It has to be something in the Registry that is already part of the OS. I hate having to confirm a manual sync because it thinks I'm roaming in WM6, any help from our experts?
Anyone know of a way to export the registry and run a compare?

I am not at home where I can look at the cabs in the cingular roms, but their are a couple registry settings for syncing during roaming etc
\hkcu\software\microsoft\activesync\
SyncWhenRoaming=1
\hklm\comm\tiacxwln1\parms
HTCSeamlessRoamingEnable=1
i will try to find the cab that disables the triangle notifications later

I haven't experienced the roaming triangle on my build of WM6 (which has had very few registry customizations). However, HTCSeamlessRoamingEnable=0 on mine so that's not likely to be it.

What about Current Operator Name under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/State/Phone
On my Cingular rom its value is 'Cingular'
(with out the ' ')
Or is this going to change if I was roaming..

The change is definitely in the OS and not one of the cabs. I tried the registry changes you suggested and it had no effect. Any other thoughts?

Under the Current Operator Name entry mine also says "Cingular" but I still have the roaming icon.

persons on the old AT&T network (like here in Hawaii) will get the roaming icon. However, people who are on the original Cingular network (like in the SouthEast USA) will not get the roaming icon.
I used to get the roaming icon on the original shipping TyTN rom. But, when I upgraded to the 1.35 rom it went away. I haven't had the courage to upgrade to the WM6 rom yet...

Here is my update..I have Cingular...Tried both Vanilla and XDA live rom..bouth show the roaming icon. I then switched to the newer LVSW rom and I have no roaming icon for Cingular anymore.

I used to have the roaming icon on the original shipping ROM on my TyTN (oh, the memories).
with the 1.35 and the XDA-Live 0.2 ROMs, I no longer have the roaming icon. BTW, I am on radio 1.34 now.

I can't figure this out. I originally had a HTC TyTN that had the roaming icon whenever I used any of the HTC ROM's. If I installed any of the Cingular ROM (1.34 or 2.06) the roaming icon went away. I dropped my TyTN and shattered the screen so I went and got an 8525. It came with the 1.34 ROM installed and no roaming icon. I superCID the device and installed XDA Live v0.2 and the roaming icon reappeared. I then installed all the cabs in the extended ROM from the orginal ROM and stil no joy. I don't get charged any roaming fees so it's not that big of deal but I sure would like know what's going on.

The first time I installed XDA Live I had the same problem and then I installed the Cingular cab located http://www.htcclub.net/en/settings.php
I just did a fresh os install of XDA Live yesturday and no roaming icon so I didn't need to install that .cab..
who knows but I hope that helps..Oh and I had to shut off and restart..

I applied that cab and did a soft reset and still no joy.

first time reading this thread because I have had bith lvsw and wmxl v1,2, and 3 and never had this problem until today. It started as soon as I installed Magic X button. I never used it before and was bored, I will take apart the cab later and see if that install caused it. The only other idea is that since I was driving though the middle of no where It is possible that I roamed for a few minutes and now the icon is stuck on even though I am no longer roaming.
Edit- I am still traveling so did not look into that cab yet, but I did get rid of the roaming icon. I uninstalled the Magic X button but that didn't help It went away by going to settings..phone..services...get settings (i did that for each one in the box) then I went to network and hit 'Find Network'...Then I did a SR. At reboot the roaming icon was gone.
Between HTC, Microsoft, and Cingular all being wacky companies who knows what caused it. I will still look at the Magic X button Cab later to be sure it wasn't that.

this is driving me nuts!

Signal Indicator in XDA Live ROM

I have a quick question regarding the various indicators on Cingular 8525.
(U, E, G, 3G)
When I had the Cingular 2.06 ROM on the device I was getting either a G, an E or a 3G.
With XDA Live I am now getting a large U with a small E (by the signal strength indicator) in spots where I used to get just a G.
I did see a 3G indicator at my office in Manhattan but also alternated with the U indicator.
Just trying to figure out what system I'm seeing now as indicated by the symbols in this ROM.
if you have the phcanoverbmp.dll from the cingular 3.3 rom then this will fix your issue... actually i just made a cab real quick... try this!

I'm having the same issue as well. My connection fluctuates just like that, on occasion. If I'm streaming something, my connection drops. It seems like a hand-off issue - but I'm really not sure.
Man, this is unbelievable. was just about to start this thread when I refreshed, and ta daa! here it allready is.
I did not have the cingular ROM, but the AKU 3.3 Test, and I did not have these issues on that ROM. I recently upgraded to Radio .134 though, could that have an effect?
What do you guys think this is? Is UMTMS available, but actual connection is edge? why would that be? Or is it just a spelling mistake in the reg somewhere?
My guess is the graphic for the indicator is being incorrectly seleced, the best test for which connection you are on is to do a speed test on bandwidthplace.com. Depending on what speed you actually get this will indicate the connection you are using.
EDIT:: According to wikipedia (yes i know....best i could find)
GPRS -> 30-40kbps
EDGE -> up to 236.8kbps
UMTS -> up to 384kbps
HSDPA -> (from my own experience) around the 1 to 1.5 mbps mark
(these might not be very accurate)
OK, so how will we be posting this problem in the XDA Live problems thread? as an incorrect graphic or something else?
Being in SAfrica with our slow GPRS coms, I'd say this is one of 2 things:
1. graphical error : U should be E, as it is actually an edge connection
2. something else, should be G, but for some reason shows U with E over signal bar ????
when i loaded the rom i was getting a U when i am actually on edge.. the phcanoverbmp.dll fixed this issue for me.. although this could have something to do with the ril.dll and rilgsm.dll ... out of curiosity which providers do you guys have?

where does the CAB file install the dll? Windows directory? I want to make sure it's where it should be.
yes, that is where it should be.. i made the cab automatically install it there... this should work on cing/att on any radio after 1.30... im not sure about anything pre 1.27...

I'm in NYC on Cingular and have the same issues. The cab didn't fix it for me either. I'm running Radio 1.35 (what ever was included w/ 2.06) and the XDA Live ROM.
You wouldn't have radio 1.35 unless you installed that individually, its a trinity radio that has gps enable. If the last radio you did was included in the Cingular 2.06 ROM then you have 1.33 or 1.34. Though in the end I don't think this has an effect.
I have 2 main areas that I connect in, one is work (3G service) and home (Edge) on Cingular in Orlando. I will test this once I get home since that is the only place I get the big "U" and little "E" when connected.
what i am stating is that through my own personal testing it seems as if the pre1.30 radio's reported differently on the cingular roms than the post 1.30 radios did... and this seems to be the difference on how the ril.dll and rilgsm.dll gets its information from the radio.. now the last time i spoke to kyphur he injected the rill.dll and rilgsm.dll from the cingular aku3.3 release into the WMXL, however im not sure if it was included with the latest release... if he did not include those in the release then the phcanoverbmp.dll might not function correctly..

Got ya... Well I will look for it in the .2 release or deal with it in until the final release. Either way the work that is coming off of this site is amazing.
I don't like the way the indicator has changed either. On WM5 AKU 3.3 I got the following:
G = GPRS (worst signal - slow)
U = UTMS (3G area - upto about 360 kbps)
H = HSPDA (best signal area - upto about 900 kbps)
Now I've upgraded to XDA-Live I only ever get a G or a 3G. There's no way to tell if I'm going to get UTMS or HSPA speeds without testing. Before I could move around to find HSPDA easily.
This is on T-mobile UK. (Note: no "E" here. We don't get EDGE.)

WM6 (vanilla) VoiceMail Indicator :s

Hi there
Bored of scrolling through massive threads, maybe it's time we separate some of the issues now. Starting with...
Voicemail indicators not working correctly in WM6.
So, what are your experiences? If yours work, let us know, if not, post what happens.
I'm on Orange UK and I get an SMS from '[email protected]' and '^@' to activate/deactivate the indicator respectively.
I've been googling, and haven't found much about these messages. I think they're supposed to be Class 0 but not sure. Does anyone know which part of the OS is in charge of sorting them out and interpreting them?
Maybe this is a simple reg setting that's missing? Could someone with WM5 and on an operator using vmail notifications run a search through their registry for '[email protected]' and '^@'?
Cheers

I get a different character, for deactivate - its a full size triangle. Again, on Orange UK.
I'll try and run thru installing all the WM5 orange cabs to test on Sun - I've got our Wedding celebration party tommorow! I'll get my ass kicked if I go near it before then.......
Congratulations!
Yeah I get the same full triangle, sorry. I've seen it abbreviated to ^ on a couple of other forums so used that, but it is actually a complete triangle.(Alpha symbol?)

Yep, I have exactly the same problem with the XDA-Live 0.1 ROM. Using Orange UK.
Couldn't delete the second message. I kept getting a message about the a SIM error. Reboot of the phone and the message had gone.
Anyone worked out a fix?
No Voice Mail
Hi all,
I have the same issue with Orange UK as the rest of you. I am supprised that no one has a solution yet. Will keep an eye on this post for a fix !
I cant spend any time on this at the moment.
Setting [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line1\Unread]
"Count"=dword:00000000
clears the notification..
Also once in this state I dont get the initial text, but I do get the vm icon! Something keeps setting the count value to -1 which seems to get it messed up.
Cant find out what processes the notification, but it looks like its something in the base of wm5 as non of the ext rom programs seem to have any effect.
I have no problems with new voice mail indicators, missed call, new sms notifications, etc. All show up correctly. Using Cingular/AT&T..
Maybe the issue is only orange based on the previous comments???
Thanks eagle 1.
If anyone has voicemail notifications working on Orange in WM6 please post, as I'll know I'm doing something wrong.
I've tried all the customisation cabs and nothing's worked so far.
The problem is that the current WM6 rom does not support CPHS this is a set of commands that include the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator), Orange are the only provider in the UL using this feature. I feel the issue is that the bases ROM currently being used by the chef is not a final RTM of WM6 as it is missing a few features that the RTM should have. I used to have the issue when upgrading Nokia roms but with those it was a simple fix through LogoManager.
For more info on CPHS see http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=220
Thanks, that's great that we have an answer now to why it doesn't work. I guess the obvious thing to do is just wait until the final ROM's released, unless anyone with a bit more knorr-how knows of a way to add CPHS features to WM6...
Can someone try this workaround.....
http://www.miousers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=144&highlight=dialmonitored
Just dropping by, I'm flat out at work, cant spend any time on this at the moment, but stumbled over the above...This allows the device to clear the count as soon as you dial your VM, not pretty, but a temp fix...(assuming it works!)
(also found this on msdn..... http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa457989.aspx)
and perhaps even editing CEMAIL.VOL may be another route....
This isn't a problem with all versions of WM6.
As well as a SPV M3100 (Hermes) I also have a SPVM5000 (Universal) also on Orange and the notifications work perfectly on the Universal.
SPV M3100 - XDA Live 0.10
SPV M5000 - Midget 0.1
I'll try to compare registry settings see if I can spot anything obvious
One thought as to the VoiceMail indicator and differences between Universal & Hermes versions of WM6.
I was wondering if this is something that is dependant on the radio rom.
I am using the Orange radio rom on my Universal but as far as the Hermes is concerned I've left it with the 1.16.00.00 rom which I think was from prof's SIM & CID unlocker v2a
Interesting...
That could be it. Frustratingly, I updated my radio ROM at the same time as installing WM6 so I can't isolate the problem. I'm using the 1.35 radio ROM that's on the FTP. I suppose this could be where orange make their voicemail customisations.
Is anyone running an Orange radio ROM with WM6? Can you please post your success with voicemail notifications?
I am on WMXL 0.2 and left my radio on the original orange radio of 1.06.00
Since upgrading to WMXL 0.1 and 0.2 I have NOT had the spool icon - but have received the system sms's. So I don't think its radio dependant.
I haven't however run any of the orange ext rom cabs as one or more of them made my wmxl 0.1 unstable - whereas loading wmxl 0.2 and then manually entering data connections etc has given me a fast stable device (without voicemail spool icon!).
Bump......
Anyone had any luck with this yet?

Could you post or PM me the 'sms_providers.dll' file from the windows directory on your SPVM5000 so I can compare it to the one on the M3100 - I think this may be where the problem lies
Looks like it is down to the version of sms_providers.dll as also reported here.

I'll post the file from the SPV M5000 rom if still needed(They are of different size) but it will be after the weekend when I'm back home.
See post #16 from olipro on this thread, all sorted now and working perfectly.

You do need the developer certs installed to use the fix though (link in the thread) and you may have to rename the new dll and do some registry editing - all the info you need is in the linked thread.

Roaming Icon in Sham and Schap's ROMs

I posted about this briefly in Sham's 2.00 thread about how I am getting a roaming icon when I use either of these roms. Is this 'normal' behavior? I have been using vp3g's build for sometime now, but was eager to try a Sham's lite rom and was quite pleased with how peppy it was. And yes, I did try both Schap and Sham's connection wizards and that didn't seem to resolve the issues.
I tried searching on the topic, but all I got were hacks to hide the icon and not anything on what causes it, or long term impacts of "roaming."
I worry that something is wrong when I see a roaming icon when I am in my network and don't seem to automagically switch to 3G when I initiated a call in an EDGE section. Additionally, I'll never know when I am actually roaming.
Any feedback, suggestions, etc... would be greatly appreciated for a n00b such as myself. For now I have gone back to vp3g's rom, but would love to use something newer.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue. The initial connectivity setup was done here in DC, but when I went to the west coast it said I was roaming when I clearly wasn't. I tried running the connectivity setup again, but that didn't fix anything.

This just perminately removes it...right? He still wants it to work if he's really roaming.
This has been a known mysterious bug to do with how the os, sim card, & network carrier interact. Most fixes have been by changing roms. Here's the original thread info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295871

You are right, this perminatley removes it as I found out when I went to Canada. I had to rely on the provider name (AT&T vs Rogers) to know if I was roaming or not.
At least It removes the annoying triangle
Hmm... interesting... by what you are saying here, vp3G's has the hack built in? Interesting... in that case, maybe I'll give Sham or Schap's a try again. I'll just have to be dilligent about making sure I am not roaming.
Thanks

my question is that if im roaming am i going to be to be charged if it still says at&t
If I am understanding this correctly... so long as you see your "home network" as the one you are connected to, you should be fine.
I did have another concern: if the roaming icon is disabled, my data will not know any better and auto download. True, yes?

I got the roaming icon when I switched my radio ROM to 1.47.30 from 1.51.. Also my battery wears out quite fast. Does the phone search for "own" network when it's on roaming state (this might explain the battery issue)?
how do i install the .reg file? Step by step would be nice. all i have so far is 'import it'. How do you do this? I have tried just clicking on it, but it just opens up my registry editor, with no option to import or add, etc.

I guess nobody knows.
You say that it opens your registry without option to import, then you may not have a registry editor installed... If you do, you may see a menu softkey at the bottom right, from there you can click menu and then import your file...
Have a look around, there are several registry editors available... I don't have a link at hand at the moment, but if you use the Forum Search link in my signature, you should get good results... Search for "registry editor"...
Hope this helps...
EDIT: did it myself and this is the top hit... http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
EDIT2: just in case, copy file to device and then just tap it and it will install itself...
i had the same problem in the beggining when i unloced my 8525 to use on T-mobile network. initially i had no problems, then when i flashed few roms the triangle showed up, i thought it was a rom issue but all other roms even the oem's were doing the same thing. i was googling arround and found someone had changed their sim card and it helped, so i went to t-mobile got my 4 year old sim card replaced and BAM! like a charm triangle is gone on the spot!
chance em!
I have had the Roaming Icon show with some of the ROM's. Right now I have VP3G's 3.62 ROM and no roaming ICON.

Exactly what it has been doing for me. I just removed and reinstalled PHM's Reg Editor 0.70. Click on the ATT No Roaming.reg file, and it opens up PHM's Reg Editor, at the root, with the HKCR/HKCU/HKLM/HKU root menu. Then I click the Tools menu, and Import is at the top, but is all grayed out. I can't choose this option.

CRC 6.1 ROM issue with Telstra WAP site

HI, I am just starting out with the flashing of ROM's on my Telstra JasJam. I actually went to a Imate Ultimate 9502 and put the JasJam back in the box but after that failed and went back to Imate for repair, we all know how "quick" they are at repairs I pulled the JasJam out and went looking for a new 6.1 ROM for the JasJam.
I found CRC's ROM and flashed HardSPL before flashing, got CRC's 13.3 stable normal ROM on and all was going along great.
Issue I am having is when I go to the Telstra WAP site to access my Foxtel subscription I get a different telstra homepage. It is the old blue and white checker page that has icons down both sides. It is not the new homepage that has the icons with "free to browse" and "foxtel" tabs.
I installed the Telstra 5.5 cab and the My Place cab which didn't fix the issue. After a lot of looking around and reading I found the streaming URL for Foxtel and when I try to access it is says that my handset is not compat and to call Telstra.
It reminds me of the time back in WM5.0 when Foxtel first came out and the JasJam did not support it, it took an update to fix it.
So I am leaning towards a radio?? version issue maybe???
Can anybody help?
I PM'd CRC himself and he pointed me here.
Can anyone shed some light, had the same problems?
thanks in advance..........
I'm not sure of your exact issue, but it wouldn't be in the radio.
I'm guessing they might be using a proxy. My provider has a proxy to access their internal pages, and without it enabled it just never shows them. I'm on Cincinnati Bell.
Hopefully this will help you search, or someone using the same network will chime in.
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah Telstra do use a Proxy and you can set it either with their software package or via the network connections. I am doing this as without it you can't even get to the Telstra homepage.
Turn the proxy off and the Telstra homepage times out .....of course!!
But this is where my issue is, with the proxy on the homepage that loads is not the current one even though I am getting the http://wap.telstra.com/wap site via the "Telstra My Place"
Over night I flashed my spare JasJam, I purchased a JasJam off ebay for
"el-cheapo", its been abused but still works OK, and loaded the official WM6 on it. Put my SIM in and got straight to the telstra homepage where I can access the Foxtel website and the "free to browse" tab.
I can only assume that is has something to do with the radio.
Can somebody please explain the radio and how it works. I am struggling with this part as I am unable to find any good info on it.
cheers
The radio just handles the packets of information. It doesn't have anything to do with where the info comes from, or goes to.
Just like a different network card, or, network card firmware won't get you to a new web page.
I'm sure it's something to do with a network setting or proxy setting.
Hopefully someone on Telstra can chime in.
OK, so how do I understand 2 JasJam's with exactly the same settings via Proxy and network setup go to 2 different web pages?
I put WM6 on one and then insert my SIM, I get to the correct page when you browse the http://wap.telstra.com/wap and then I put CRC's ROM onto the other with WM6.1 and insert my SIM and then get to the incorrect site.
So I thought, as a wild guess, its the phone. So I did the opposite with flashing. I flashed the JasJam that had WM6 and was getting to the correct site with CRC's ROM and as I suspected I could not get to the correct site.
The error message tells me my phone is not compat with the service. I put the WM6 ROM onto the JasJam that could not get to the telstra WAP homepage and yep, it worked flawlessly.
It must be something to do with CRC's ROM, is there anyone else out there, PLEASE, that is on the NextG network and using CRC's 13.3 normal ROM and can get to the telstra WAP homepage that allows you access to Foxtel and the "free to browse" tabbed content???
Or anyone using one of CRC's ROM's, any version of WM6.1 that is working as it should?
Can anyone suggest a WM6.1 ROM that will work with Telstra Foxtel service?
Any help would be appreciated?
I know it all works on WM6.1 as I have, in the repair shop, a Ultimate 9502 that has no problems browsing the WAP site.
thanks again.........
Ahh, It might be something with the way the browser is reporting itself. That, I'm not sure how to fix. Might be able to use schaps advanced config to see what each of them are reporting, and try to make it match.
yeah I am unsure about that one. I installed Opera as well and get the same page.
This is definitely one for CRCinAU himself. I did PM him but he said to go to the forum. So far that hasn't been much help.
I searched for the other ROM you mentioned, schapp? I am not having much luck.
can you point me in the right direction for that, I'll give it a go and see what the differences are.
thanks for your replies. Seems that there are not many local users of the CRC 13.3 ROM on the Telstra network, or they don't use this feature and are unawares of it.
I ask again, if anybody can help with this one I would really appreciate it.
Can anyone tell me if they know of a WM6.1 ROM that is fully working on the Telstra NExtG network and able to use all the features provided by the "MyPlace" and WAP sites?
I cannot even look at any of the features on the WAP site, when you click on the icons to go to say, ringtones or movie info I get a web page error saying my hanset is not compatable. Very frustrating for such a lean, fast and app packed ROM!!!
cheers
Here is his xda dev post about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151 but the download link seems to be broken or is down at the moment.
Here is my copy of advanced config http://www.filedropper.com/advancedconfigurationtoolv33
all kinds of settings in there, also, you should be able to load advanced config from crc's device update(should come in crc's rom).
I think you will find your answer Here you need to change registry setting for compatibilty issue
Regards
Thanks that fixed it. Exactly the issue.
Its funny I looked at that string before and tried a few different options but nothing changed. Knowing the exact string did it!!
Thanks to everyone who replied and thanks to CRCinAU for a very nice ROM, which is now working as I want it to.
cheers

Did you make any changes to the stock setting, or add any alarm programs?
Mine switches timezones instantly.
One of the things I hated about my Vogue when I first got it in spring of 08 was the big lag in updating the time when you brought the phone out of sleep mode. This lag was HUGE when switching timezones. The 6.1 stock update corrected that. I've never had that problem with any of NFSFAN's Bell ROMS since 1.10 (21 versions ago, or 28 including 6.5!!)
I am a Pliot so I change time zones often, it even handles Newfoundland!
I do leave it on "flightmode" in flight to save the battery, and avoid U.S. roaming but on roadtrips it reset while on the Dash of the van no probs either. It also doesn't seem to matter what home screen I use (Chrome or M2D). Works fine with the 6.5 lock as well.
Under "clocks and Alarms" time tab, I have "Home" set to my home timezone.
Under "more" I only have the "sound alarms even when the device is set to silent or vibrate" box checked.
That's all the info I have, works for me quite well with both of the latest 6.1 and 6.5 NFS ROMS.

My wifes Vogue has the same issue we just found out on her trip to Cancun last week, she is on an early version of NFSFANs 6.1 ROM and didnt want to upgrade as it works perfect and she loves it as it is LOL
This weekend Im traveling to Atlanta, GA from Las Vegas and will see if his V7 of his 6.5 ROM will auto sync
The difference with my wifes phone and mine are two-fold
A) 6.1 on hers versus 6.5 on mine
B) I ran the DCD Carrier Cab for Sprint on my phone to enable diags and PRL updates when available
If it updates I will let you know, other wise you could try to install the DCD Carrier cab for your provider and reboot and try again (if you havent already)
Detroit Doug
I have installed the dcd verizon cab....I am using Vin's generic 6.5 rom from over at ppcgeeks as nsfan 6.1 VZW 1.15 and V6 6.5 both had the same problem although I did not have the dcd carrier cab on either of them..I have also not made any changes to the stock clock or alarm program.let me know how the trip to atl goes so that maybe I can find a fix... Thanks guys
I also have s2u2 v 1.45 as I have had the most luck with the older version...but it would do this even after a fresh flash before I could install it so...
