Question: WM6 have issue dialing long numbers? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I don't know if this is a known problem, but I'll post it for everyone.
With T-Mobile UK, their voicemail number (when you press "1") consist of 15 digits, with the last 10 digit being your mobile number.
For example:
- Your number is 079 0123 4567
- T-Mobile UK VM: +44 012 79 0123 4567
So when you press "1", the device will show that it's dialing +440127901234567.
Now note the "0" above, in red font. I have 2 8525, one running WM5 and the other WM6. When I dial the VM, this is what happened:
- WM5: +440127901234567
- WM6: +44127901234567
For some reason, WM6 ALWAYS dropped the number 0 between +44 and 12, even if I dial the number above one by one using the keypad (not pressing and holding keypad "1" for VM). This cause the connection to the VM system to fail, because T-Mobile doesn't recognise the number since it is now only 14 digits instead of 15 digits.
I tried the following:
- Swapped SIM card
- Changed "Area Code" under "Contacts" (put blank, put city code, etc.)
- Checked if any PIM application (Pocket Informant) is forcing some sort area code setting
But nothing worked. ONLY with WM6 that the number "0" from the above is dropped, no matter what I do.
If you with T-Mobile UK or have to dial 15 digits number with your provider for VM or even making other calls, please let me know if you have similar issue.
The problem I am having now is making my phone useless because I cannot check my voicemail at all.

Anyone with T-Mobile UK using WM6?

I'm using WM6 with T-Mobile UK. The voicemail number I'm using is +447987627762. Which has nothing with my mobile number. Try that...

I have 3 SIM cards:
2 - PAYG (both on the TyTn)
1 - Pay Monthly (on the MDA Compact III)
If I use the number you gave, the error message ("The number to this call has been barred") also applies to ALL SIM card.
If I use the one that came from the SIM card, the error ONLY appear in the device that have WM6. I tried all SIM card on the WM6 device and the same error message appear, but not on the WM5 devices.

I have installed different kinds of WM6 ROMS (LSWV, Black, XDA) and tried this with 3 different TyTn and 3 different SIM card. Same problem.
I think I can safely say that if you use T-Mobile UK, do not upgrade to WM6 otherwise you can NOT check your voicemail.

Look at my post below. Previous idea not worth trying.

I have another idea! Try this
+4400127901234567 ADD an extra 0. I tried calling this number +440127901234567 and my phone would show +44127901234567 but when I put an extra 0 my phone showed this +440127901234567 and that is the number you want. Hope this solves it??

ANY LUCK with adding a extra ZERO to your VM number?

Yes, this works
Just add the extra zero to the number (after the +44) and it works a treat!
Cheers!
Smiffy.

Dude... you ROCK! It works!!

No name when contact calls?

I am going nuts over a minor issue that I am having. When I receive calls from my contacts their names do not show up only the number. Since I do a lot of traveling I use the international prefix for all my contacts. When I remove this and just have the number and not the international code then the name shows up when I receive a call.
Any idea anyone
Cheers,
Halldor
Try putting + instead of the 00 or other prefixes.
Yeah,
I have all numbers saved in international format too!
Sample US:
Mr. Brown has area code 215, phone# 1234567 - the correct international format for this number would be: +12151234567
Sample Germany:
Your friend has a German area code of 089 and phone# 1234567 - the correct international format would be: +49891234567
(on most area codes in Europe you ignore the "0" in the beginning)
Regardless where you are, within the US or elsewhere - you can call your contacts without making any changes when using international format! However, some of the phone providers (especially internet phone companies and calling card companies) covert numbers to a non-standard format and in that caseyou will see only the number on the phone display because of it is not identically to what you saved in your contacts! But this is really rare ... !
I had this random issue while I was using some version of AEBPlus.
Not using it now and problem dissapeard.
I use the + on all my numbers and I am not using any additional software except for PocketCM and I also removed this program and did a SR but still the same problem. Maybe it is the ROM I just flashed?

Might be it is the ROM but I doubt that! Did you get the contacts before flashing correctly on your device?
How (what format) does the number appear on your phone screen when you get an incomming call?
When you dial a contact and call him: do you have his name or his number in the display? (if second I would agree it is the ROM!)

Post upgrade question - phone number format in called id

Hello,
I have recently upgraded my JasJam from my cellular carrier's WM5 ROM to Schap's 4.20 WM6 Rom. Everything is good, however there's one annoying issue with the way that phone numbers are displayed in caller id.
The problem in Israel is that land lines have a two digit area code and cellular numbers have three digit area code. Is there a way to change the way that phone numbers are displayed in caller id? Basically, I would like to remove the parenthesis and the spaces and see the number in one string.
Thanks!
I have a similar problem. costa rica has 8 digit ph numbers with no area codes. so I get 3 digits in bracket followed by 3 more #'s - 2 numbers. very confusing. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
have you tried changing your regional settings?

Yes I did. No luck.
Anyone else? I'm sure there's a ph format somewhere, registry edit maybe?

WM6 on Artemis - Contacts with area code problem

I'd like to be able to enter my contacts on my XDA Orbit, 7-digit number only, and have it recognize these contacts when they call. My carrier passes the number (123)456-7890 to my phone as +11234567890,, so why can't my phone realize that that number is the same as 4567890 (in the same area code). This way, whenever I receive a phone call or text message, I'm not sure who it is. Is it a simple setting? Thanks. My past phones (mostly Nokias and Samsungs) have not had problems with this at all.

Maybe you can try this:
Contacts > Menu > Options..., you can see the Area CODE, just Clear it.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I kept getting the 500 Internal Server Error when trying to access the site. Neither removing the area code, nor adding a 1, nor adding +1 works. Thanks for your help so far.

Calls to this number are bard

Hello forum
I’m having issues retrieving voice mail by pressing the relevant button 1.
Each time press 1 for voice mail I get a warning tone saying “Calls to this number are bard” the only way to retrieve voicemail is to dial 222 via the service provider’s options.
I’ve been in contact with my network provider and have had the voice mail set up but I still can’t access voice mail. Can some one help please?
Hi, I really dont know much about your network, but in order for dialing "1" to access my voicemail to work, I had to enter my voicemail number under 1 in speed dial.
Im not sure if you have already done that, or if youre running an oem rom, you may not have to, is it dialing the correct number, when you press "1"?
Also under "settings" / "phone" / "services" tab, you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings....not sure of that may help either.
Sorry if you have already covered this, I just know its easy to overlook things at times, and thought I might suggest it, hope you get your problem sorted.
call to this number are bard.
Thanks for the advice; I’ve actually tried that method the first time I was in contact with service provider T-mobile and it didn’t work. T -mobile push the problem to HTC as the manufacture of the unit. I was in contact with HTC, but the very nice and helpful tech support lady concluded its t-mobile problem. Currently stuck in between.
I'm experiencing the same thing. You can run the programe called "Interactive". Select voice service then call voicemail. A message will ask you if you want to call voicemail, tap yes and it calls. It's an around the house way of doing it, but i know of no other solution right now.
BTW i have a vario III on t-mobile.
Ok i think i've worked it out I was having the same problem.
As from the previous post....when in phone select/ "Menu"/ "Options" in "settings" you'll see a "services" tab, select that then you can select to retrieve voicemail, and txt settings.
Check the voicemail number...I notice that the phone or t-mobile added 050 to the number. If you have something similar you need to remove it. You voicemail number should be you number with +44 at the start, with the first "0" removed and the rest of your number. Eg if your number was:
07951123456
its should read +447951123456
I did this and it works fine.If it works for you maybe you could pass the information onto on to T-mobile.
Hope that helps.

Where did you get the device?? What ROM is it running? pretty sure the 050 might have been added by the ROM or national on the OS. The network should report the full international number (ie the +44xxxxxxxxxxx number).
he is right

I bought it off Ebay. It's running wm6.1, i'm sure it said in the description that it was a HTC Rom, could be wrong ( HTC website is the default site in IE )...but the inital problem is easily sortable.
ps. +44 is the code for the uk, other countries would have different codes, so remember to take that into consideration.

voicemail acess on Orbit _Vigin sim

Hi all
hope this is the right place!!
my phone is an Orbit XDA original WM6-O2
I have just started to use a Virgin sim card on my orbit.
Have managed to set up voicemail - but am having problems accessing the voicemail number
the idea is, you dial 222 and set up the voicemail - from that point on you then just press and hold 1 and then go straight to voicemail. However, when I try this it just dials 222 again and goes to the set up again.
I have managed to access the correct voicemail number by dialing *#67# -( it sends you the voicemail number as a text)and have then put this number manually into the voicemail contact.
this is where i get a problem... when i access the voicemail number or even try to dial it manually, it comes back with someone saying "calls to this number are barred"
I have done all of this with another virgin sim in a sony-erriccson phone and it worked correctly - even if i try that sim in my orbit, the same thing happens... someone saying "calls to this number are barred"
I wonder if this has something to do with my orbit settings? It is loaded with the original WM6 rom from O2
any help would be much appreciated
tech support from virgin are "getting back to me" in the next few days... but I was hoping that someone on here may have some solutions etc
many thanks
tony
