Remember something in other threath about radio events that makes phone to wake up, but i'm not sure.
Better make a deep search in the hermes forum, but i think the issue is related to radio.

Just a thought. Do you use email on your Hermes and have it set to auto download every so often?

mmmm, interesting. I've observed the "Wakeup itself" issue with activesync push mode active, so don't think it's concern to mail only. But, as you say, in same configuration related to mail and notification about mail can be the origin.
As i use only activesync with push mail, and i also take care my tytn dosn't wakeup every time notifying me about all, my recomendation is revise the notification configuration, and take care with all the settings there.
Also take care with notifications in the system (you can view with Task Manager 2.7).
Regards.

Is it waking up from a full power down (after pressing the power button for a few seconds) or from standby (where the screen turns off but the phone is still on)?

waking up from standby mode..

I did'n use activesync (only for flashing), email, mms etc..

Hm, radio 1.40 doesn't help
maybe hardware problem ? but when I switch wireless off, all is OK

so ur saying when wireless off do u mean wifi off or phone radio off (flight mode).
i dont have an issue at all with unexpected wakeups.
try...
1 disable all sounds n notifications (not inividually but with the default setting radio box)
2 remove all today items entirely
3 remove all items in the startup (including the hidden files in rom) and put the somewhere such as temp or my docs. dont delete them.
4 turn off all alarms
5 turn off wifi
6 turn off auto beam accept
7 turn off bluetooth
8 turn off error reporting and ms auto updates and customer improvemement
9 did i miss anything if i did turn that of as well
10 turn off push email close all data connections and prevent activesync from running
soft reset the device by pressing the power button for 3 seconds and power down. wait 20 secs and power backup. bet the phone is fast now...
switch off / suspend / power off the device and see if it now wakes up.
tell the phone to turn off display after 1 min. power off after 2 min.
if it wakes up now then we have to keep looking further. it shouldnt tho. we have disabled everything.
if its ok u know it was one of the above. so now work through one after another waiting for a decent period of time after each to test and isolate the issue.
post back n let us know. if its still a problem after this i would guess its ur notifications queue that needs to be fixed... maybe with caution scary bear.

Do you run Cingular Xpress? I was having the same problem. It would kill my battery in less than a day. If you have this program try removing it.

What's done when the PPC turns off ?

Hi,
If you click on the on/off button, does the ppc really turn off ?
In fact I'd like to know how works the alarms ? Because you turn off the PPC and something (a system process ..?) must check the hour to wake up the ppc, launch the alarm ...
So is it possible to let an application running when the ppc is off ?
I answer myself
The solution for me is to use CeRunAppAtTime which wakes up the PPC with an application at the time set. Don't know if the standard alarm use this function but for my purpose it is perfect.
Love this site
Hmm, except that if you keep the GPRS connection up when in suspend mode, the CeRunAppAtTime runs the app, but does not turn on the display!
I have also tried raising a notification, and the display commands that media player uses to toggle the screen, but these don't work either.
Does anyone know how to get the display to come back on programatically when the device is suspended but the GPRS session is still connected?
Many thanks
Matt

doesn't seem to work anymore with 2003 though. Except when the device is connected to AC power.
Personnally I used CappRunAtTime to make my own alarm app to wake me up with mp3. And it works well. If the PPC is on it just launches the app, if the PPC is off it starts the PPC (screen on ...) then launch my app ...

You mean that if you have your GPRS always on, you turn off the ppc et the CeappRunatTime does not come back on ?
Wow I'm waiting my SD card adaptater to install the new rom, mainly for the 'always GPRS on'.
A question for both of you: does the standard alarm work ? I mean does it turn your screen on..? Because I supposed that the standard alarms work with CEappRunatTime ?
Hi
Yes the alarms turn the screen back on when gprs is set to always on. And that was how I thought the system did it by triggering the calnot.exe and clocknot.exe apps using cerunappattime. Although I was triggering the app to run a second in advance, and since then we have changed that to 10 seconds that that seems to work ok, it now turns the screen back on even when the device is 'pretending' to be suspended when gprs is always on.
Just curious, why do you need an SD card adaptor for upgrading the rom? You can just use the usb cradle, of course you have to have a pc and all the software i suppose...

I did the same thing (sleep(2000)) in my application to be sure that all the system processes are well woke up before I start the mp3 functions. I'll keep in mind that woke up the ppc, when GPRS is always on, may take a little more time.

I just wait the SD card adaptator to save my actual rom, which is a French Rom, before doing the upgrade. Just in case because I don't think Bouygues (from which I bought my XDA) will provide updated rom in french.
It seems that the cerunappattime doesn't like waiting for the time if you set it less that about 10 secs in the future, seems to just run the app straight away, and that didn't trigger the ce to wake up...
wierd, put it to 10 secs and it woke up fine. Don't think it has anything to do with powering up the system as it is mostly powered up anyway when gprs is always on.
Matt
well I always test it by launching an application one minute in the future so I never saw that case

Stop power-on button returning to today screen!?!

Okay this is driving me nuts. Every time I press the power button whether to turn screen back on or to return the device from standby, it always returns to the today screen instead of the screen in which I turned off the device, I have got security on, but the timeout is 24 hours. My exchange server did set some security policy, but I can't remember if the today screen problem was there before it did this. Is this a WM6 thing, I can't remember it doing it in WM5.
Example, if I'm using memory map while I'm out on my MTB, I'll power down the screen with AEButtonPlus and then use the power button to turn it back on, which used to be ideal, but now the Power button always returns me to the today screen forcing me to use the AEBUttonPlus task manager to switch to memory map again. Not easy with gloves on :-(.
I don't think its AEButtonPlus as I used this under WM5 along with everything else.
Anyone else having this problem?
Sort of solution
After installing Zenyee.com_Stay_Unlock.zip, I was able to uncheck the previously greyed out "Prompt if device unused for" button, this has stopped it returning to the today screen, but obviously my phone is now insecure. So it would seem even if you have a 24hr timeout, the OS still goes back to the today screen, but if you disable the password completely it doesn't. Result - sort of anyway!
Maybe a silly question, but in Settings/Today, Theme tab, have you unchecked the 'Return to Today Screen after....' item?
Yeah - that was the first thing I verified - and it was already unchecked, but it looks like its down to how the password applet works rather than any kind of timeout, you can basically put it in standby and then press power on and it will return to the today screen immediately.
Thanks for the input though
Good luck!
I'm having the same issue here with WindowsMediaPlayer; when i arrive at work and toggle the screen back on (i've mapped the enter-button to screen toggle in WMP), i always have to go into taskmanager to switch back to WMP to turn the darn thing off.... really annoys the heck out of me as well....
I hope someone will find a fix for it. It seems to be a typical WM6 problem, cause this never occured on WM5, and it does occur under every WM6 version i've tried so far...
The Today applet is set to 2 hours to return to todayscreen (and it certainly ain't no 2 hour ride to my work), and security set to prompt for password after 30 mins. (The ride to work is only 15 mins)...
I got the same problem. Would you mind to tell me where can I download Zenyee.com_Stay_Unlock.zip? Thanks.

I tried but couldn't find this. Anyway, thanks a lot.
any solution?
Official WM6 also suffers from this 'bug'....seems to be a WM6 'feature'....
Anyone know any registry hacks to fix this ?
My .02.
I recently hard-reset my Schap's 3.57 ROM and have installed minimal software that interact with the Today screen. Before hard-resetting the device, my system would also go to the Today screen whenever my device came out of standby. After the hard-reset, it no longer goes to the Today screen until after the timeout period defined in the Today Settings.
Before Hard-Reset on Today Screen:
Office Communicator
Windows Live Search
Activesync Exchange Server Direct Push
Palm Messaging
After Hard-Reset on Today Screen:
Palm Messaging
No Data Connection or Direct Push
Hope this helps.
Edit:
Also, make sure you remove everything from the Today screen to see if that's the issue. Then, slowly add back items.

Hello from the hx4700 kozhura ROM forum. Have the same problem with returning to the today screen on my 4700. Love WM6 otherwise, but this is really annoying. Hope someone finds a patch.
Try installing battery status. In the options menu, you can turmn that option "ON" or "OFF"

Thanks but that didn't work. Seems to be ok for WM5, but under WM6, nothing seems to keep it from going straight to the today screen when the power button is pressed or when the screen is toggled.
The return to the today screen after power-on the device is a known problem of Windows Mobile 6 and the password protection system.
If you want that your device doesn't returns to the today screen you should deactivate the password. Try it and tell us
i have the wm6 rom for my hx4700 and i dont have this problem. but also my device isn't password protected. funny though, the today time-out is set to 4 hours and when i turned on my device this morning from last night, it didn't return to the today screen

Thank you VivaErBetis, yes that did the trick. It works fine without password protection. It's not ideal, but I can put application passwords on my sensitive data like PocketQuicken so this is a good enough workaround until someone comes up with a patch.
Thanks for your help.
Regards.
this problem started suddenly for me when I installed FUI .. the flash user interface that makes your wm6 device like and iphone. To fix it, I had to enable the password first, then disable it. all fixed. thanks guys ... as usual.
Zenyee.com_Stay_Unlock.zip does not fix the issue. This is a password protection bug. Disable password protection and the problem goes away.

Phone will not come out of standby

hi guys,
has anyone experienced a problem where their Trinity will not "wake up" with the short press of the on/off button?
I'm sure I read about this some time ago and am trying to work out if it's hardware or OS related.
I'm running mUn's TE WM6 which I have been for many months now.
The problem has only started in the last 2 weeks or so.
I haven't installed anything new, but have enabled Push Mail for OTA mail.
It's doing it 1 or 2 times a day now and is very frustrating. The only way to wake the phone is soft reset.
When calling the phone from a landline, it does not ring and goes to voicemail.
Any advice or solutions gratefully received.
no one seen this then I guess.
Bummer (for me!)
Try hard reset

You might have loaded a program that is not liked. Use a backup program. If this does not work then load your backup after the hard reset and you will be back to where you started
P3600 with D810 WM6 ROM; also happens occasionally, recovered with soft reset. Seems to happen most often when I press the On/Off button twice too quickly.
thanks guys.
I'm going to try the hard reset route-I'll report back.
Some time ago this happened to me so often, but said it was due to some application, in my case was Slide2Unlock.
Since I removed by their consumption of memory it didn't happened to me.
(Sorry for my english)
Bugger, this has started to happen to me as well. Only 3 times in the last 3 days but if it keeps is up that will be enough for me to do a hard reset (overdue). Strange cause the only new thing I put on in the last week has been PCM 16 which is only a copy/paste exercise.
The fix in the Hermes forum is to force your device to sleep and not let it go into standby.
I have had some problems recently with DeviceLock 1.2 just ceasing to work and have to uninstall/reinstall to make it work again. I set it to turn the screen off when locked, as this does not put the device on standby, maybe there is the same issue with it going into standby by itself.
I have the same problem..i think that it has to do with the phone hanging..most probably due to some background programs eating too much power and memory and the phone just lacks till it hangs..happens when you have other programs that have hanged as well..my problem is with PocketAlarm..it takes so long to load my phone went to standby and the phone couldnt be called back..in brief the phone just hangs because of a program..i don think it has any problem do to with the hardware or strictly the OS..cant really explain..but the role the OS play in this problem is that it allows the program to make full use of the phone till the phone cant cope with it..its the core of the OS so it cant be avoided with any other versions or anything..sorry it seems rather unclear..hope you guys understand..
same problem for me ... from times to times, when a call hang up, i push a lot of times the red button for going back to the today screen and as it shows up, i click immediately on the Power button for turning off the screen. right after when i forgot to do something (approx 1sec) i push the power button and there it doesn't turn on the screen ... strange ...
what i've installed on it :
TomTom 6
BatteryStatus with today plugin ver 1.04.203 beta4 i put tray icons too.
i've bluezard for sniffing and/or hacking bluetooth devices.
OBDgauge too it's a software that works with a bluetooth dongle i plug into the diag port of my car.
and that's all. ah yes one more thing -> i disable the "HTC Home" because i don't like it.
Same problem here...
Still no solution?
I got this problem from some version of rom by Karmba. But V7.2 is OK so far. It seems happened when I close Egress reader by click X button then turn off screen by power switch. It then would not wakeup again. But if I close Egress and check the running programs from Task Manager to make sure the Egress is not running at the background, then I can turn on or off the screen freely.
So I think this wakeup problem is caused by some running program that was not closed properly by X button then crash the WM.
That was just my personal finding. Hope it help you guys a bit.

HTC TYTN turning off randomly

My JASJAM/TYTN is turning off randomly and I don't know why?
This is at 70% battery level too
I am using Schaps 4.31
Hardspl 2.10

Not sure why?? Any help would be appreciated
Can you be more specific? When you say "turning off" do you mean the screen going dark or do you mean that you have to use the on/off switch to bring the device back to life each time?

I have to press the power button, and it would reboot showing radio rom version screen etc
There might be a memory, try hard reset or a different ROM!

Help needed please! Screen shuts off after 25 seconds regardless of power settings!

Hi all!
I am thoroughly fed up! My Tytn II picked up so many niggly bugs such as the screen powering up 3 seconds after powering down the screen and it also had a spell of shutting the screen off even when in the car cradle, power lead plugged in, and screen set to stay on when power plugged in to it. But it would still shut down.
Well tonight I am driving for 4hrs and an hour ago my screen switched off. I powered it on again but now I have a Tytn II bug where the screen powers down after around 25 seconds. No matter what the power settings are.
The power settings are
No power lead:
backlight off after 1 min and shut off after 2 mins.
On power:
Screen stay on.
What has happened! What can I do! I have done a back up so will try a reboot to out the box settings but absolutely pig sick of WM p*ssing me about. I really have better things to do than numerous hours of hard resetting and rebuilding the device to how I had it.
Is there anywhere in the registry that might have changed and I can set it back? Though I would also be keen to know why it happened to avoid it happening again.
Thanks for any help folks.
Rich

A friend of mine had the same issue. He had to do a Hard Reset as well . Never had the problem again, even when he installed all of his stuff back.
No other soloution? don't like to reinstall all programs
i have to ask.. just to clarify. Is this an issue with your TyntII or Touch Pro 2?
This is an issue with my TP2
no chance to repair the buck without an hardreset?
No idea, all i know a hard reset cured it so im guessing it was a application conflicting somewhere. I've only installed stuff that I really need now like IGO8, and a couple of small apps so don't know which one it was.
Solution - without Hardreset
i got it
I Find the right entry in the registry
HCU - ControlPanel - Power - Display
change the value u like

It's a general HTC issue. Or maybe even Windows Mobile. My Xperia has that issue except the settings always reset to 25 seconds. It's basically software conflicts. I hate that most!

I don't have a "Power" folder in the HKCU\ControlPanel\ section, do you mean the HKLM section? This does have a "Power" key, but no Display entry. Should I add a DWORD value "Display" and then enter a value representing what?
There are also a lot of keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power but I have no Idea which one to edit...
Anybody determine the registry key that controls the backlight settings? even if it get's lost on soft reset, I'd like to know. maybe execute the change on startup of the handset.
